This is a comfort food diner style breakfast place! The French toast is so sweet and savory made with homemade bread! The portions are decent for the price, I would go here if you need comfort food!

Not too busy for 11am
Went here for saturday brunch and was pleasantly surprised to find a brunch gem in suisun!! the place is small, very mom and pop and the food finger lickin' good! I got the bacon waffle (2 waffles with bacon inside) sprinkled with powdered sugar. I was in HEAVEN! I also ordered the hot chocolate and boy was it special. Seriously, the best hot chocolate I've ever had!!!!
Prices were great. Parking was easy and no wait to be seated. We are going back! -

Ok my second favorite breakfast place behind Babs in Suisun. The Joy of Eating is a great breakfast place and I usually frequent it to meet up with friends.
It has a diner type atmosphere and carries the usual diner food. Has pretty views of the marina as well.
When I feel like eating healthy, they make my omelettes or scrambled eggs with mostly egg whites and one yoke. I love the green onion garnish! Also, they always top off my coffee, I never see the bottom of my cup here! -

Latley Ive been having breakfast here than at the Vallejo spot. No real reason, just that my breakfast buddy suggested we go here.
Just like the Vallejo location, its again, all good here! Good food, good service, good bread! Good eats!! The place is....just....well..GOOD! -

We only came here since Bab's was closed that day. Monday I think it was.
Everything was fine until I bit into the toast. Their famous toast. No way would I ever want to taste that again. I was so hyped because its homemade bread and I know how wonderul homemade bread is. Well they dipped the bread in some kind of batter and it had the strangest taste. I couldn't figure it out but it was similar to an egg batter for french toast. What's so weird is that I love french toast but I didn't like this toast!
The taste didn't coordinate with the eggs and bacon. I don't know why but it left a strange after taste and I gulped down my water and the taste still lingered. Seriously stop dipping your toast in that stuff!!! Why mess with homemade bread like that.
It was a huge disappointment and to make matters not that much better they took forever with our food. my husband liked the toast and he had their bat sandwich. bacon avocado I think with that terrible toast. He didn't mind the taste like I did. I just don't see myself coming here again. -

Good Comfort Food! The country potatoes were awesome, crunchy on the outside and sweet silky heaven on the inside. The toast was a visit to grandma's house for me, the home-baked goodness and smell took it over the top. TJ was our server, she was gracious and efficient.

This place is a gem. My husband was impressed with the patty sausage which is hard to find these days. The homemade bread was awesome! Chicken fried steak was good, all in all we were impressed. We are new to Suisun so this was a cool find since before we would just go to Mimi's Cafe by default.

A nice place to have breakfast or Lunch. Good homely ambiance, and friendly service. Food was OK, nothing too fancy that stands out, a good place to go if you are in the neighborhood.

The location is so much better than the one in Vallejo and serves the same good, homey breakfast foods from the original.
Came here with my bf's family on a rainy, Sunday morning. The parking is around the corner so it was a bit of a walk, but I didn't mind. They serve the same food as the location in Vallejo, but the restaurant itself is so much more clean and modern. -

I've been here 2 times. Friendly, cozy, mom and pop type of place. Food is good, but the homemade bread that they have is what won me over. Great for breakfast but they close kind of early for a late bird like me.

I went there for breakfast during a Tuesday morning. The parking was easy and I was seated promptly. I ordered the chicken fried steak. To this day my favorite version of this that i have had was cooked by a friend of mine....so i have a built in gauge. The steak was not swimming in grease so that was a huge plus. To me the gravy was a bit bland and not enough of it. The eggs...typically over easy for me...were cooked to perfection. Their version of the home fry wad pretty good. Also the ranch dressing tasted fresh which is always a plus. All and all I would forward to coming back.

I walked by this place after going to the Greek restaurant nearby. It seemed like an interesting place to eat, so I decided to give it a shot the next time I came.
When I went, it wasn't hard to find parking or get a seat. The inside of the restaurant is pretty small and quaint. There was no wait, so we were quickly escorted to a table. I ordered a breakfast that included sunny side up eggs, bacon and hash browns. It was pretty good. The orange juice tasted pretty fresh. I had heard about their fresh bread and thought I'd try it. It was ok. Nothing special. But I did like the way my mom's omelette turned out. It was pretty tasty.
Overall, it was a nice experience. I liked how we were able to get seated and order/eat our food quickly. But with Bab's nearby to compare it to, it's hard to give this place five stars. Bab's is definitely the better choice between the two. Even though I won't be back, but I had a good time. -

I'm full.
My friend and I decided to come here since Babs was closed. This was my first time I've ever ate here. The name itself made me feel like a heffer.
Service: not the best. Our waitress was a sweet lady, but she wasn't as attentive as she could've been. I needed some tobasco for my food but I couldn't even ask her because she didn't check-in enough.
Food: I ordered the #1 Breakfast: 8oz Ribeye Steak, country fried potatoes, two over medium eggs and two slices of toast [look at the pic :)]. I finished everything but the toast. I felt like I was gonna have a heart attack. That's heffer of me.
All in all, the Joy of Eating is a-ok in my book. This would be my second choice, right next to Babs. -

Been here twice. First time, food was OKAY, but not too particularly impressive. But service was great, so I decided to give this place a second chance. Same result... great service, OKAY food. However, their world-famous toast was pretty awesome.
This would be a good choice if you don't feel like waiting an hour or so for Babs. -

I work right up the street and I absolutely love this place. The staff is friendly and the food is great. Also, they have a big enough table for my coworkers to come and play cards on our lunchbreak, and that just adds awesomesauce to the whole experience!
Good job JoE! -

They made the hub's bday breakfast memorable. Thanks!
We love the accommodating and attentive waitresses here. I requested a bday pancake w/ whip and out came the cake w/ a candle and a couple of backup songbirds.
Breakfast was filling and off the hook as usual w/ their delish signature toast! We love it here. Oh and they serve rice (check out the pix)2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

I'm torn between giving this place 3 and 4 stars. I wish there was a half star option, but I truly believe it's better than just saying "I've had better." It was really a "joy" to eat here. I thought the food was very well prepared. I had these pancakes that were very fluffy and tasteful. The service was beyond friendly, such kind folks! The setting and atmosphere was well fit, it feels like the place just opened yesterday!
Overall, the good service, the good food, fast arrival of my food (major plus) has sold me! yea, I see a sign that says "We now serve Buds Burger" that doesn't taste like the original, I just ignore it- everything else seems to taste great! -

Great place for breakfast....plus they're open until 3 in the afternoon.
I had a Ranch breakfast...eggs sausage toast hash browns....man the toast was great....the homemade bread is a must. If you're into french toast then this is the place. I had to know 1 off cause they seated us at a small table and the food almost didn't fit....We'll be back sometime again for breakfast -

So its New Years Eve morning and we go to Joy of Eating in Suisun to have my favorite Missing Link omelette..its super crowded and the cheap owners only have two waitresses working, plus one busboy, all of whom are rushing around like crazy people trying to take care of the hungry masses. We get seated pretty quickly with menus, and then...nothing. Other people come in ten minutes later, get seated..and the waitress gets them coffee, takes their order, and we're sitting there with egg on our face, rather than on our plate...so what do we do? We stew a few more minutes, look at the guy whose order was taken smirking, and walk out after almost 30 minutes of sitting there like fools. Hopefully this was only a one time screwup by them, as I do like their food. But service (or non-service) like this makes a restaurant's rep go down the tubes.

Cute place... and I'd love to give it more stars. But.. it is what it is: 3 stars = "a-ok." Nothing to write home about...
I love the small mom and pop diner ambiance... But I could very well make the food just the same (if not better) at home. Supposedly they have this "world famous" toast... but I wasn't impressed.
Anyway. I'll come here if the line @ Bab's is too long and I'm too lazy to cook at home. -

Vallejo, CA
This is my favorite breakfast spot. I love the Vallejo location for introducing me to this "grease pit", but I prefer the Suisun location because of its cleanliness and less-crowdedness. We've always had good service there and the servers made a real effort to get to know us once they saw us coming back time and time again. The food is exact to the Vallejo location - even their famous toast. Yummy!
Their food is definitely comfort food done well. My favorites - crab omelette; corned beef hash; country fried steak; waffles and their famous toast. -

A great hole in the wall in the 707. This is mos definitely a heart attack breakfast with big portions. Don't come here if you're trying to watch your weight.
**(3-6 $ working class prices)
* taste is amazing and HELLA big portions
*diverse patrons and workers
I normally get 2 eggs any style with a side of bacon and a cup of coffee. Peep it out because it's one of the oldest breakfast joints in the "V". -

Red Bank, NJ
Almost everything I've eaten there is sort of generic breakfast food that I could get anywhere else. Except the toast. If only we could get the main meal from Babs and the toast from here, we'd have a 5 star spot.
I'm a sucker for great service, but the best waitress they ever had apparently no longer works there. The others range from "barely adequate" to "not bad," but as long as they bring me my toast, I guess I'll keep coming back. Just not as often as I used to. -
Review from Marlon T.
I just ate here. I came expecting the Bud's Burgers to be just like the Bud's Burgers you can buy in Vallejo at the actual restaurant. It turns out that the burgers were not like the ones you can get at the actual restaurant. They were not as greasy, which is good for health, but it was not as tasty. The burger here was good though, just not as good since lots of grease is cut out.
Otherwise, the service was great and it's a peaceful location. There's lots of other restaurants worth going to around this area.
I would possibly come back to try out other things on the menu. If you're looking for a greasy, delicious Bud's Burger though, I would not recommend coming here. Otherwise, they probably have from great breakfast! -

West Sacramento, CA
I was absolutely ecstatic when I found out that my all time favorite breakfast joint has expanded and opened a location in Suisun. That means, I'm only about 10 minutes from love + grease.
When you walk in, you immediately notice the cleanliness of the restaurant. While the Vallejo location has been there for a very long time and I understand you gots to keep it all " original, " but I do always love a clean restaurant. Wouldn't you agree?
The menu is all the same as its Vallejo OG location, except for the service. The service doesn't feel as welcomed unlike the Vallejo location. At times, I felt uncomfortable to be there being a minority. I could be, perhaps, over-looking the fact, but I'm just telling it like it is.
I would prefer to dine at the Vallejo location for the customer service reasons stated above, however, if I really need satisfy my craving in heartbeat, I'd go ahead and dine at the Suisun City one. -

Vacaville, CA
Ahh the joy of eating. located right next to the Suisun city waterfront, it is a clean & upbeat restaurant with equally helpful & friendly waitresses. I have made my visit to this restaurant twice now, the 1st time not being very memorable. I had ordered breakfast here and was not impressed at all. don't get me wrong, the food was not terrible, but it wasn't anything to write home about either. I left there wishing i had gone to Babs Diner instead, which is just 1 block further down the road. One this I DO remember liking about Joy of Eating was that they had some special toast. I remember eating it and it was very dense and filling, with slightly sweet undertones to its taste. It was really unique and delicious...
The reason I went there a 2nd time, however, is because one day, I was passing it by and noticed that they had a sign up that said they now serve Buds burgers! Aw man, Buds in Suisun! NO WAY! I immediately began to recollect all of my fond childhood memories of when my family used to eat at the Buds off of Sonoma Blvd. while visiting the filipino grocery store next door. Their burgers are seriously a true vallejo icon!
Anyways, myself and a few co-workers decided to give it the test. Would Joy of Eating be able to redeem themselves? We seem to really think so! Their burgers really did taste the same like at Buds! They even had the same Buds burger deal (4.95 for a burger & fries). The only difference here was that they serve regular crinkle cut fries instead of the freshly cut ones at the Vallejo Buds. We'll definitely come back here for a quick cheap lunch... -

Down by the Suisun Marina is the second Joy of Eating restaurant in the the area. The first one is in Vallejo and I hear that one is just as good.
We ate here on Father's day and it was pretty busy but we didn't have to wait long to be seated but turned it down to sit at the counter. Our food was good, waitresses were super nice, and the environment casual. But the kicker here is the bread! At first you think "Texas toast," because they're thick sliced and golden. But you bite into it and its super soft, sweet, and they give you two slices of it. They also use it for their French Toast which is one of their most popular dishes. If anything the bread will keep you coming back! -

Walked in and waited to be seated. There was one booth open, we waited for a few minutes, nobody acknowledged us. Then a server moved a couple from their table to the open booth! And still no one acknowledged us. After a couple more minutes of being ignored we left. We went to the Black Bear Diner, where we were seated right away and had a great breakfast. No joy at The Joy of Eating, at least not for us.

Pleasant Hill, CA
Drove out from Pleasant Hill in our ever-widening search for awesome breakfast places.
Nice flavorful potatoes. Red taters with green onions. Normally I don't go in for oniony potatoes, but the more I ate the more awesome they became!
Really good sausage patties, good crust on them that soaks up hot sauce nicely.
They have french vanilla creamer in addition to half n half, which I appreciated.
The homemade toast was everything other reviewers promised. Yum!
If I were local, I could see myself stopping in a lot for coffee, potatoes and toast, which I believe was actually a menu option.
Might've been 5 stars if there wasn't a group of NINETEEN that the waitstaff had to cope with. I *totally* understand that. It was half the restaurant!
Location is a newer building in what looks like a downtown redevelopment project. So, this is not an old hole in the wall greasy spoon. Very clean and crisp. -

I ate here only as a direct result of Babs being closed, but I overall had a good experience. My medium eggs were cooked to perfection, while the skillet potatoes seemed a little soggy. The server was friendly and the seats were comfy. Oh and I almost forgot the homemade bread which was delicious.

I wanted something new this morning so tried Joy of Eating. It was really okay. I liked the decor and the cozy feel a lot, but it took kind of a while to get our food and I honestly didn't much care for the bread. I found it to be too sweet. The hash browns were pretty tasty, a tiny bit greasier than I would have liked but still very crisp. My husband's country potatoes were pretty good and he really enjoyed his omelette. I'm not much of an omelette fan to start with so I'd go back but I think just to try lunch.

We tried Joy of Eating this afternoon for lunch. Our original plan was to eat at Bab's but the wait was too long. No wait at this place and we were seated right away. That's about where the good review ends. The food took way too long (over 30 minutes) and then our server disappeared- no checking on us, refilling drinks, etc. The food was average, at best. Tuna Melt was really soggy, burger was over-cooked and the fries were ho-hum. Not impressed. I will definitely not be coming back here.

Went to here ONLY b/c Bab's Delta Diner was PACKED and so happen to see that they've opened a restaurant in the suisun area. So my mom and I decided to try. The food was just OK and the service was OK too, I've mos def had better. But i will say their bread especially the cinnamon bread was off the hinges good!! We'll give this place another try.

I have visited their 2 locations. The people are friendly and the service is fast. They always refilled the drinks and asked if we needed anything else. I have tried their French Toast Breakfast, the #2 breakfast, the missing link omelet, the ranch breakfast, and the biscuits and gravy. I have not been disappointed with anything I have tried. The warm syrup on pancakes and french toast makes a difference. It definitely is my go to breakfast place. I need to go back for their burgers and the cinnamon toast one of these days. I like the Suisin City location because it is newer and more spacious. It is a must try!

I like this place. We eat here often since it is pretty close to the train station in Suisun. My dad likes to travel by train to visit from San Jose. They are open 7 days a week. I imagine they get a lot of overflow business here from Bab's which is very crowded and closed on Mondays. This place has its own charm. I like the food. My son always gets the Bud's burgers with fries. The burgers are really good. The French fries taste like they are double fried and are the best around.
