Eh, I think this place was just ok. I think my expectations were too high. Shoes are ridiculously expensive and just ok. They are trying too hard to be Carrie Bradshaw-ish in my opinion. I only saw one pair of shoes I loved, and didn't give a second look to any others.
I have no idea why you would have to be buzzed into this store too. It's absolutely silly. Sales staff is slightly pretentious, but in that cheesy bad highlight sort of way. Accessories are way too trendy and the prices are way inflated for what they are.

A nice shoe salon, and "salon" it is. It has a very 'shoe salon in my private Upper West Side boudoir' feeling to it. Lavish and rich. The staff is exceptionally nice and friendly, warm even, the shoe selection upscale and very selective. Doesn't quite nail my tastes in shoe choices, however (a leetle too Upper West Side money glam: Celine, Rossi, etc), but I do like *some* of the labels they occassionally carry, par example: Jil Sander, Chloe, Stella. Certainly a place to check out to see what's out there.
Tip: they have most of their current stock online. See their website.

Ohmygod - this is the best designer shoe store I have been in (sorry Neiman's!). Not only do they carry a one of a kind selection, the owners are fabulous and make shoe shopping even more fun than it already is. The shoes are $400+ but you will feel like Cinderella putting on her glass slippers and have a blast doing it.

This is the kind of boutique that I miss from my travels. Not only are the salepeple kind and helpful, but they know their goods! They can tell you how the shoes are made and everything you've ever wanted to know about the difference between leather and suede-- not to mention lizard, ostrich or anything else.
It's not cheap, but few uber-fabulous things are. If you need couture for your toes there is NO place else to go in Chicago. Skip Niemies and head here first.
