Absolutely delicious food! No questions there. I had a wonderfully scrumptious, tender filet mignon, side of creamed spinach that was done just right, and a fabulous "Fontina-wild mushroom polenta cake".
But, I was disappointed with the service. I had made reservations for 6:15pm on a Saturday, leaving what I thought was plenty of time before the Opera. We weren't seated until 6:28pm. Because of the delay we opted out of the prix fixe deal, missing out on what seemed to be a wonderful dessert option. Shortly after we were seated we ready to order and did so. We put in a request for two fillet mignons with no appetizers. Shortly thereafter a table for two had been seated right next to us. They ordered and the night progressed normally. That is, until I realized that the ladies next to us had received their appetizer, eaten it and then received their entrees. This brought to my attention that, when looking for our waiter, this was the second time out of four that we needed to have one of the other staff members track down our server. When the food did actually arrive, like I said, we were very happy.
I definitely would go back again and try my luck with requesting earlier reservations and the prix fixe option.
so many restaurants around, so hard to choose wo went for ambience...not bad, especially when your elderly mom needed to rest after a long stroll around manhattan.
Good option if you're in the Lincoln Center location and are looking for a sit-down meal.
It's a pretty large restaurant and has a big area for alfresco dining. It's not too crowded. Service is very very good. The restaurant's menu serves continental food. The bouillabasse appetizer came as quite a large, filling portion but was also very tasty. Lobster bisque was very tasty also. Chilean seabass entree is a good pick.
Overall, it's a fairly decent restaurant for an average meal.
I came for the wrong meal. I wanted lunch. And my lunch just wasn't good. I had the crabmelt sandwich and it's what I would refer to as unremarkable. Apparently this is a brunch place. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I do that sometimes.
But the service was pretty good. I mean there weren't many people there on a Saturday afternoon. They were getting ready for dinner service I suppose. But dude, I just wanna have some good food. What's so wrong about that?
I thought it was genuinely good. I had a mixed veggie salad with chicken, my mom had it with shrimp and my friend had crab cakes and eggs. All were delicious with decent portion sizes.
We also had coffee, tea and sodas... total bill was $90 incl tax and tip which was a bit much for a normal brunch I thought.
Came after the half marathon this past weekend and were seating next to other racers (the smelly section!!!)
Overall I'd come back if I had sometrhing in the area but maybe not specifically to Josephina's although there was nothing bad about it, helpful wait staff, nice clean restaurant (kinda looks like Isabella's)....
Cheers to French Toast!!!!
I come here annually-it's like our tradition to come here after the AIDS WALK in Central Park.

I love love love this place-mainly because I am surrounded by good people.
There were 3 restaurants all lined up with outside seating facing the beautiful Lincoln Center. Decided to pick the one with the less people so we can balance things out between the 3. I guess we kind of paid for that with mediocre dining.
I had the glazed pork tenderloin with mango chutney and a cooked cabbage slaw. The meat was tender but lacked depth in flavor. Also tried some seafood fettuccini which I would recommend, this was loaded with a mountain of seafood on al dente pasta.
Got to see Lang Lang sign autographs after, he supposedly famous for piano playing.
Average food, but pleasant enough place to kill a little time, though by no means would I go out of my way to eat here again. Only reason we ate here was because it was close and in the direction we decided to walk out of the meeting we just had. That and the fact that the restaurant 2 doors down was roughly 50% more expensive and we didn't need to invite financial scrutiny for what should just be an average business lunch.
Our waitress was pleasant if not hyper-attentive. Place was pretty quiet, even for Tuesday lunch. But then, it's last week of August and perhaps everyone is on vacation.
Open face turkey burger was somewhat mediocre, while the 'assortment of sun ripened tomatoes with brucchetta and mozzarella' wasn't bad at all.
Friendly staff, old time feel. Classic italian menu. Open to making your dish to order. I love vodka sauces and they were very willing to make a vodka sauce for my pasta. Live entertainment. Older clientele. Parking almost doesn't exist...not the easiest to get to by car.
This attractive dining spot - with a decor highlighted by flickering candelabra and votive candles illuminating colorful wall murals - is very convenient if you're going to a performance at any of the Lincoln Center theaters. Pricing here is rather odd - appetizers are overpriced, while entrees are very reasonable. Still, on a very cold not-yet-winter night, I couldn't resist the lure of a creamy-rich roasted butternut squash soup with spiced toasted pumpkin seeds. My brother's salad of roasted beets, poached pears, and blue cheese, tossed with a lemon-thyme dressing and toasted walnuts was equally good, but unfortunately my sister-in-law's ginger-scented grilled calamari, served with roasted pineapple and sweet peppers, was overcooked and tough. Pork tenderloin with a bourbon-apple cider glaze was on the dry side, the stewed string beans with it limp and tasteless, although the nicely-spiced sweet potato puree was perfect. Moist grilled salmon was served with an outstanding avocado-fresh corn-lemon zest risotto. Wild mushroom-ricotta ravioli, with artichoke hearts, green peas, spinach, tomatoes, and leeks in a roasted garlic-vegetable broth, could have been more al dente, but the dish as a whole was very flavorful. Our server was barely civil, practically scoffing at us when we requested fresher bread - the first basket served clearly was on the stale side - and basically ignoring us except when absolutely necessary. How an individual who heavily relies on tips makes no effort to coddle his customers is one of life's little mysteries I'll never understand.
Although I must admit the food was pretty good, I was just there for a New Year's Eve celebration and my night was mediocre at best. The restaurant told us to be there at 9, so we were there at 9:00 sharp and they had us waiting a good 40 minutes before we sat down. And the crowd was not that exciting either. It was mostly people in there 40's who were basically there to have a meal and relax. There was a DJ there, so my friends and I got the crowd started by getting up and dancing. The service was pretty good. Very prompt and attentive. By 1:00 the night was pretty much over and the restaurant was clearing out. If you're just looking for a nice, relaxing meal in Lincoln Center, head to Josephina. Otherwise, I would head in another direction.
We went to a birthday party here following a performance at the Met. It was a wonderful set up, which allowed us all to mix and mingle (and there were several dozen of us!). We meandered in between the table with the most beautiful vegetable spread I've seen outside of a wedding and an equally impressive cheese plate. Trays of wine and passed hors-d'oeuvres were also circling the room. I loved the shrimp with avocado on crostini! The hostess kept insisting I eat more, and I happily obliged! The spring roll was a little dry, but that's what happens when you cut it up and walk it around. The spicy chili sauce with it added a kick and some moisture. The chicken satay sauce was delicious, but sadly, I stayed away from them after the first one since I'd spilled some of the delicious sauce on my new dress. The puff pastry was light and flaky but I couldn't tell exactly what was in it other than it being something tasty. The service was excellent! Attentive, but not pushy - they kept the food and wine coming, always just when needed, and promptly took our empty plates and glasses so that we could keep mingling. Definitely a great party atmosphere.
Location, location, location, and that's what you're paying for. This restaurant is reliable and one of few in the lincoln square area, but slightly overpriced for what you get. Dinner was good but not memorable. Brunch was very good, I had the most creative omelet I've ever seen on a menu (open-faced pesto omelet with mozzarella and chicken apple sausage). If you want to sit outside, it is a very good option, with a large open space and lincoln center. Overall, it's good food but expect to pay $5-10 over what it's worth for the location and view. Worth it, but not somewhere to go everyday.
A very conveniently located, pretty restaurant that was very good in 2002. But we just went the other night before going to the opera, and it obviously has a new chef or something. The service was very slow; they seemed understaffed. The waitress offered my husband their beers on tap, only to return 10 min later to say his beer wasn't available. He ordered an alternate, and the waitress returned 15 min later to say THAT beer wasn't avail either. My beet salad was ok, and our entrees (farm raised salmon, linguine w/ clams) were bland. The key lime tart was delicious. I guess they managed to hang onto their pastry chef! Next time, we will trek over to Patsy's Pizza or Neptune Room instead.
Not sure if it was the bad date or the overall bad food that caused me to dislike this place. I can't even remember what I ate. I'd rather walk up to McDonald's on 72nd or Whole Foods in TWC before a Lincoln Center event.
Enroute to Lincoln Center to see a show, we checked out the menu in front of Josephina's and decided to give it a try. The ambiance delightful, the food delicious, the staff courteous and informative. We highly recommend it and will certainly return. Give it a try!
I work very close to Josephina and have had lunch and dinner there often over the years and feel something is afoot here lately. Had an AWFUL lunch there last week. Seemed less crowded so wonder what is going on? I have had the herb crusted chicken sandwich many times but last week the chicken was rubbery (strange texture) with a smear of a spice type covering but certainly was not crusted (crunchy). The bread was different as well. Waiter acknowledged it is now served on a sour dough, but it looked like white bread to me. Came with the taro type potato "chips" (biggest portion of anything we had) and surprise, icky pickled vegtables (not mentioned on menu) in a tiny ramekin. I took two bites and wanted no more. Waiter asked if I would like something else. I ordered the lobster corn chowder appetizer instead (was 8 or 9 dollars) and it was thin and bland. Incredibly disappointing. In all fairness the bread and tomato based dipping sauce is always fresh and good, and my companion's hazlenut dessert was good. But I was not impressed and will not return again. The sandwich was removed from the bill but paying 9 bucks for a small, bland soup when I could have had a chowder from Hale and Hearty a few blocks down for 4 bucks was hard to bear.
Late lunch. We had eaten here before and expected good things and were not disappointed. Appetizers were good, entrees as well. I had pasta with sea food and was very happy. Service with a smile - in fact a very happy staff.
Was pressed for time as it was sunday morning and needed to find a place for brunch quickly. made a reservation with no problems and we were seated promptly (outdoors). They have freshly squeezed oj, delicious french toast that comes with fresh fruit and tasty omlettes. Brunch came with a bread basket that has a wonderful assortment of breads and muffins accompanied by a delightful marmalade... service was great too. perfect place to have in your neighborhood.
