I like this place. Yes, it's tacky as hell ... like someone's theme park idea of a Mexican restaurant ... the taco bar is sketchy and it could use a darn good steam cleaning... but ... they do potato tacos!  Yummy, delicious, greasy potato tacos in - get this - a freshly fried taco shell! This is what I'm talking about when I say I'm looking for southern California style Mexican food; somewhat Americanized with authentic touches. The frozen margs are tasty too and just strong enough. Now if they could elevate the rest of the menu to the level of the tacos, we'd be stylin'!

It's popular and never hurting for business from those who seem to appreciate the sometimes bland menu items and who seem to not notice the crap all over the floor (it's called a sweeper, people!) I actually think another branch would do well in the south suburbs. Meanwhile I'll continue to drive up there when the hankering for a potato taco becomes just too much to take...

The atmosphere here is quite nice, definitely an A+ in that regard. The food though is average or just slightly above that. Not really authentic Mexican Food but fine if you want something basic. Infinitely better food wise than the Casobonita.

Mediocre at best.  My friend insisted that I check it out because of their free Taco bar.  Kicking and screaming, I went.

The Superb:  Service was fast, so we could get out of there ASAP.  Tasty Margs!

The Average:  Chips and salsa were your typical fare.  The decor was also pretty normal for your average large Mexican style restaurant.  The food was pretty average.  I found that the beans were the highlight of my meal.  Pretty sad.

The Abysmal:  It's in Lakewood.  It's a warehouse for people that don't really know what good Mexican food should taste like.  It's way too crowded for how... well... unspectacular it is.

********************UPDATE***********************
The owner of the establishment contacted me via Yelp Messaging to find out the specifics about the meal I had in hopes that he could find out what went wrong.  The fact that the owner contacted me and discussed these things in such a professional manner gives me hope that my experience was a fluke and I experienced an "off day".  Well done for caring enough to follow up with me.

So its not real Mexican...its chain food...but if ya want a good happy hour
with magaritas and room for you and your friends..this could work..
the wify poo likes to have dinner there once every couple of months..and
the portions are generous and the food doesn't suck...so I make sure to drink enough so I am not thinking of El Noa Noa...or one of my other favotites...make beleive I am just there for the fun..like Disneyland...your
still gona eat there..you just know you have had better...the wait staff is generally good natured and get's  your  meals out fast enough..(they live for the turn over)..and I can say the food has never made me sick..( sorry to bring that up Toco Bell)..
Lets be honest...after a couple of hours of cocktails...shoe leather and salsa does the trick...not that this place serves shoe leather..

As a Bostonian, I am pretty aware of the common conception that we don't have good Mexican food. I've had a lot of things back home that I thought were pretty good. How little my naive palate knew!

On a Friday afternoon we strolled in for some lunch. We sit down and are given some spicy salsa and chips. The menu offers many pleasures from fresh guac to burritos to enchiladas. We sat for the feast unaware of the delights about to come our way. We couldn't even finish half of our entrees. I think this was quite possibly the biggest burrito I've seen in a long long time if not ever. Everything was tasty and fresh. The decor was typical and the service was super friendly and prompt. Our beverage glasses were NEVER empty.

A whole new world of good Mexican has been opened to me and I can't wait to explore! Sure beats the Ortega kits we had at home as a kid!

Home of the Tequila World Tour. Good standard Mexican food (ala Gringo style). Excellent margaritas. The service is always prompt. Food is served fast, fresh and piping hot. I have never been disappointed with this place.

Late night free all you can eat taco bar!

I really like the atmosphere, inside and out.  The service is always great.  I'm not crazy about their chips and salsa, but their queso is the very best in town!  I always get their chicken enchiladas with cream cheese sauce, and it's very flavorful and fabulous!!!  Their prices are about average.  I'm not a big drinker, but there are always LOTS of people upstairs for their happy-hour and buffet, so I'm sure it's great.

When I'm in that part of town, that's where I always want to eat.  I highly recommend it!

Four stars for the "extensive" happy hour buffet for the price of a cold drink. More free food than Costco on sampler day (except you will spend $$$ at Costco).

I haven't been to Jose O'Sheas in a couple of years. However, I just called and they still have the happy hour buffet - every night. What kind of  free grub are we talking about?

Yes, you will find "predictable"  corn chips and salsa. You will also find fixin's for tacos plus a pan of some kind of chile casserole. Okay, this is where Jose O'Shea goes above and beyond: fresh fruit. You will find watermelon/cantaloupe/honeydew too -whatever is in season, as long as it holds out.

Yes.........
(1) If you don't want to cook
(2) If you don't mind mediocre Mexican buffet/bar food
(3) Great if you are broke but still have hunger pains (aah! the memories....)
(4) Decent atmosphere to meet friends
(5) Conveniently located off 6th Ave & Union

Another great deal in D-town

I happen to find this place by accident one day when I entered another Mexican place into my navigation system.  I decided to check this place out since the parking lot was full.  I usually figure full parking lot = good food.  I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and authentic food was.  I love the chicken enchilada's with cream cheese sauce.  I can't find this dish anywhere else.  The drinks are reasonably priced and delicious.  Every time I'm visiting Denver I have to stop here before going back home.

When I was a kid, my Dad went out of town and all I got was a shirt from Carlos Murphy's. Since then, I've noticed that the Mexican-Irish named restaurant is a niche all it's own, but never wandered into one. Until last night, when I went to Jose O'Shea's.

I have to say, aside from the white kids serving, there was nothing Irish about this place at all.  Which is fine, considering I went there for Mexican food, but I still wonder where the Irish comes into play?

At any rate, on to the review... The guac was pretty great. At the last minute, I changed my mind and went with the chimichanga- I wish I hadn't. It was overcooked, and this morning I actually wondered what the hell I ate last night. My wife said that they used heat and salt to compensate for the flavor of her combination, while her uncle dug the hell out of his burrito. Go figure.

Coming from the North East, I'll admit I don't know much about Mexican food, but I thought this place was alright. I've had lunch/dinner a few times with co-workers during my stays in Lakewood, and we've never really been disappointed with the quality/quantity of food provided.

Good bar atmosphere upstairs if you want to hang out for some beers/margaritas (check out their selection of tequilas - impressive).

Certainly not authentic, but worth a visit if your in the area and are jonesin' for some atmosphere/enchiladas.

Food is bland but their frozen margaritas are really good.  Go for happy hour when drinks are cheap and they have a free taco bar.  Because I wouldn't pay for the tacos, but I won't turn down a free one, either.

Have family in town with bland tastes? Do they demand mexican food? Do you know that they would freak if you take them to your favorite taco joint on Federal? Or Lola is out of the price range for your cousins from the midwest? Take em to Jose O'sheas.  They will like it, you will not have to deal with them freaking about the bill, and they have a complimentary dessert bar that kids and those with the palate of a child will love.

I used to go to Jose O'Shea's in my early twenties for their happy hour. I had not been there for at least 12 years til a few weeks ago, for a business lunch. The salsa and chips alone are enough to grant this dining experience a winner!  I had the taco combo plate, it did not disappoint. The service was good, I will return when in the area!

Man, I've had a couple of drunken nights here. They have a free midnight buffet gig.... DON'T EAT IT. I always blew off people that said don't eat there, you won't feel well.. Then I got sick. Aside from that, the food is good, not amazing, but OK and priced just fine. What is amazing here, their chicken tortilla soup. My favorite! You have to get that if you go to Jose Osheas. Otherwise, its ok, not bad food. Quick service. If you're looking for a reasonably priced place with OK food, stop by. Just don't eat the free meat ;)

I've recently come to really love this place.  Their queso is some of the best around.  Seating upstairs and down, the whole place has a great Mexican atmosphere.  The drinks are awesome, but pricey.  I've started coming on the weekends to get my drink on with some friends that live near by and find that my tab tends to get rather larger than just staying in downtown golden to drink.  But it's always a great time.

This place is so near to my heart. If i had to pick one place from childhood that stuck out it would be this restaurant...Its crazy how many fun times my family, friends, etc... had at this place. its super big, so bring a big group isn't bad, now that depends on the day you go...

food is awesome...its just cozy since I've been going there for so long, but honestly been to many mex food places...this still ranks high cause of both the atmosphere and the food...

its a great place...take fun people when you go...it makes the place....

Cool building but it is THE MOST bland mexican I've ever had. It tasted like the beef was cooked in water. The drinks were good but I just couldn't believe how the food (expecially mexican) could be so bland.

Chain Mexican at its best. Feels almost like bastardized version of Casa Bonita. The food is better (obviously) and the environment is very dulled down, but overall not great.

Jose O'Sheas is one of those places that is so funny from the outside and the inside...it is hard to believe it is a restaurant.  I went there after a long bike ride to watch some NCAA basketball and relax.  As you walk in you feel like you should check your gun and your sombrero at the door.

I was staring at the menu for a while...my brain was only telling me two things: 1. I was really hungry 2. I wanted Mexican food.  The rest I couldn't comprehend.  Once the food came out I realized that if I wanted a lot of food this was the place to be.  The portion sizes are ENOURMOUSE!!  I got a combo platter for $9.00 and it came on TWO plates.  I could see this being a fun family orientated place but if you are looking for great Mexican you might want to go somewhere else.

Why 3 stars; The service was good...However our server didn't have a favorite item on the menu (a note to all servers..."you always have a favorite...you might even have two!)  Not to be mean...it's just the truth.  Also the decor was a little too much for me and the food was just 3 out of 5 stars as well.  I think this would be a great place for a large group of people, drinking and hanging out.  I will be back...and I will bring a lot of people with me!
