I love this place!!!!! The staff is friendly, fast and efficent and the food is AMAZING! This is BBQ at it's finest ...people. My favorite is the rib tip basket served with coleslaw, fries and two pieces of white bead. The portions are so generous that I always end up taking home extra.
They also offer a great dessert selection like sweet potato pie, coconut cake...ect. YUMMY!
This is a place the splurge once in a while.
Oh.
Ok.
This is the place to get serious BBQ in town.
That no one let me know sooner is a serious failing of my social structure. You are all fired. You will be replaced with new friends familiar with this venue.
Tasty tender fatty brisket. Juicy chicken. Great cut meat. Awesome sauce (not to be confused with the awesomesauce adjective, so I guess that would be awesomesauce awesome sauce.)
We are excited about our first visit to this Seattle establishment. We ordered the beef brisket on a bun and the rib tip basket. Okay, we were little pigs :) so we also added the hotlink and the pecan pie. Everything was great! The medium sauce was spicy enough. This is my order of favorites: 1.ribs http://2.beef brisket 3.hotlink. We were debating if the pecan pie was a bit too sweet and we concluded that it was perfect to finish a spicy meal. Now we need a nap!
Oh, how I love the corn bread. LOOOOOVE IT !!!!!!!
This place has yummy noms.
I loved the bbq sauce! I also love the coleslaw pretty hard because it didn't have onions in it! I hate onions with the fiery passion of 10,000 suns!
The pulled pork sandwich & the rib tips were quite lovely.
Left super full & super happy!
YUM.
Ooooooh man! I came in for lunch with a buddy the other day and felt like getting messy so I went ahead and ordered the rib tip basket. Damn I was glad I did, I dont think I said a word throughout the entire meal, only a few grunts of pleasure as I stuffed my face with these moist and delicious little treats.
I was in hog heaven as I continued shoveling fries and coleslaw in my mouth. The bbq sauce is perfect when soaked up with their crispy crinkle cut fries. I really do love the sauce here, great sweet and heat, tasty molases flavor, I think I am going back today.
Poop house.
I do have highish standards for BBQ, but even without standards this place sucked. I got a beef brisket sandwich that was 90% fat. The potato salad was a dead ringer for the potato salad I bought two days before at safeway.
Tasted like they doused everything in some generic, K.C Masterpiece type sauce. Nothing seemed homemade, very generic, bland and cheap, yet the food wasn't cheap. Anyway, go to RoRo for something tasty, skip Jones.
I love that they carry real food here. When you order chicken, you get a chicken. The fires are nice and seasoned, and the sauce is awesome.
I buy the sauce and use it at home.
They are kinda pricey for the day to day lunch eats, so I suggest them for the evening fix.
Pecos is close and are a better lunch value.
mmmm, ribs.... hot links....
For those who have ever eaten at Everett & Jones in Berkeley or Carmen's & Family in Hayward, you'll know what type of BBQ to expect.
Good stuff... ribs were outstanding. Hot links could be hotter, though still really edible and the sauce. It's been a long time since I've had some good sauce with heat. The hot sauce was a nice blend of spices and chili, making it tolerable going in and out.
The potato salad had a bit too much mayo on it, but still tasty. The baked beans, a bit too sweet for me, but to others, it wasn't.
And of course, the first place in Seattle that served the white bread... to do whatever you want with it... make a sandwich or just use it as a edible rag to swap up the extra sauce.
The key to ordering from a place like this is getting the combo... besides variety; it's enough for two servings either to share or enough for a meal later.
"What the hell just happened" and "What, am I on candid camera" are two thoughts that I had after leaving Jones BBQ. It would take an invitation from the owner himself to bring me back in. Scroll to bottom for the quick review.
Let Me Explain. - Long story but necessary, yelpers need to know.
I have been there twice over the last year. The first time I felt the rib tips to be very,,,,,, well dull/boring/mediocre even for Seattle. See, I grew up in the south, Georgia to be exact. I'm not a BBQ expert but have probably sat down to at least 1000 BBQ meals in my lifetime. Enough to know when I have something good! Anyways, the second trip I stopped in for a quick sandwich. Walking in, two gentlemen were completing their order as I began to read the menu. I though quietly to myself, $9 bucks for a lunch special sandwich! I would pay about $5 in GA. Oh well, I'm hungry.
The chaos began as I went to order. The two gentlemen in line before me noticed that the soda machine was not working correctly. I paid and quietly waited/watched as the scene escalated out of control. All could have been saved had the girl working the counter not be completely worthless. I'm sorry sweetie, I'm sure your really a nice girl with a great future before you but your going to have to hustle every now and then or life is going to kick your ass. She must be related or otherwise she would never have this job. Again, sorry.
So I spend 30 minuets listening to the cook explain to someone on the cell phone that they had run out of soda. For some reason, the person on the other end just could not wrap their mind around the idea. However, I'm patient and forgiving so I end up politely asking for a sandwich update. The girl at the counter said that she must have called my number and someone else walked out with it. This would be a believable scenario had I not just been standing literally 3 feet from her, staring at her for the last 40 minuets; mind you the same 5 people who walked in after me were still there enjoying their meal. I'm thinking to myself "what the hell is going on". I repeated my order about 3 times, was served food and started me lunch.
BREAKDOWN:
By BBQ standards, The BBQ sucks. I'm sure they can cook up good BBQ but what they served me was lame. You will get more value buying the Lloyds BBQ at the grocery store. This is pressure cooked meat with Smokey BBQ sauce loaded on to give the impression of slow smoking.
whenever my friend and i have a barbecue craving other than the pulled pork sandwiches at pecos pit, we come here. the barbecue is good, not the absolute best i've ever had, but it's in the top 10. the brisket is good, so is the chicken, although, i felt there was a little too much sauce. i tried medium one time and thought it had too much heat, i like to taste my food. stick with the mild if you want to get a taste of your meal. because of the sauce, it is a messy meal, but what do you expect from a barbecue place? this location is in a very small strip mall, the parking is good, the ambiance? not a place to bring a date. this particular location is fairly small, more suited for take out. overall, good barbecue, fair prices, they get a 4
I have written and re-written this review three times. I am going to compress it down for practical use.
Lunch Special ($7.10 final bill) comes with 3 pieces of chicken, non-yellow slaw (see my review of TATs), two slices of bread, and one soda in a environmentally unfriendly Styrofoam cup.
You should:
1. Not bring it back to the office!
2. Pick up several wet naps at the counter.
3. Plan on taking your time cleaning up afterwards.
I was back at my desk eating like a pig at the trough, people looking at me with BBQ sauce on my face and I knew that I made a HUGE mistake. I even had to throw on a apron before I ate. For those of you who do not know me, I work for a large Seattle coffee retailer and I have a few aprons at my desk (let your mind wander).
I am not a chicken BBQ guy, but I did like the meal. But it was so messy, that I just don't think I can make this a regular stop for me. I will go back and order a BBQ sandwich next time.
Bobby Flay from the Food Netword did a story on this place. Not that I trust an adult that goes by the name Bobby.
Hilarious.....if someone tells you to go here, go and don't mind the dingy area that they're in. It's a tiny location in a strip mall surrounded by industrial park, but the food is top notch. We got more food than we could handle and still had leftovers for two days! The peach cobbler was great, the greens perfectly spicy and the medium sauce was spicy without taking over the other smoky flavors. A great find!
When I'm craving some ribtips...Jones is where I go. You get about a pound of ribtips with fries and slaw for less than $10. Usually too much for me. BBQ is also typically pricey so the pricing is not bad for what you get. Their sauce is sweet and tangy that packs a punch. This is a lunch joint that is open 11-5 everyday and is close to the Starbucks headquarters.
Sandwiches here are very tasty, but the pecan pie is worth going to SODO for. I take my grandma here when she is in town.
I've been to Pecos Pit and decided to try Jones for a change of pace. I got the pulled pork sandwich, without a bun and coleslaw - had to watch my carbs **sighs**. Choose the medium sauce, which was just right. If I am in the mood for BBQ and in the SODO area, I think this will be my spot, rather than Pecos. The only deciding factor, being the indoor dining, and ability to order without the bun. The coleslaw was not outstanding and the pork portion was probably a bit bigger then Pecos, but neither one are near as good as Rowdy Cowgirl.
Hmmmm. My wife works for a large Seattle coffee retailer. Which is how I know about Jones. Tried the beef brisket BBQ sandwich. Bit rich for my blood at $8.50, but it came with one side. I got the baked beans, which were good. The sandwich should have came on something more stout, such as a Kaiser roll. My poor hamburger bun quickly fell apart under the onslaught of meat and sauce. But you can't bitch too much, if you receive twice as much meat as the sandwich will hold! The sauce was right on for my taste. I ordered the medium hot, which it was, plus plenty of sweet tang, which I also like in a BBQ sauce.
This is so far the best barbeque place I have ever been in the Seatle area. The portions are a bit big for me, but probably just right for others. (The more, the better, right?) The menu is simple, but quite extensive and has easy choices (they all look good to me). You can get the"famous" pork ribs (lick time!), the hot links (oh boy!), the rib tip basket (uh-huh!), beef brisket (mmmnn!), or some chicken barbeque, all slathered with a killer mild, medium, or hot (nuclear for me) sauce. Some come with bread slices, some with fries, and cole slaw. But it's all about the sauce - this in my book is what makes this barbeque taste so darned good. There's indoor and outdoor seating, paper towels and wet napkins, and of course, longer lines (even on Saturdays. Darn!!) But people come and go, and service is quite quick, so it's not so bad. I don't know what's in that sauce, because I keep on coming back, even on weekends. It's just that good for me. Don't miss out - check it out sometime. You'll feel it, too.
