This is for the bar only.

The prices are very affordable. It's pretty much a dive bar, but is in a great location near the heart of the gaslamp. Stop by here before dinner or going to a more expensive location.

Our bar tender Karen was really nice!

This place...haha! it's not what I'm used to but it's a good place to watch sport games. I came here to watch the UFC fight with friends and it was pretty good....except during the match they cut it off to play music videos. I was upset to be honest.

Other than that the drinks are good and place is an ok hang out....I guess.

Very disappointed all around.  But most importantly, what kind of bar will not call you a taxi?  We were told by two bartenders that they would not call us a cab because it is too loud inside.  Not the best policy for a bar! Will not be going back.

    Jolt'n'Joe's... ahhh. brings back memories.

I've been in a billiards mood again, and I wanted a good, cheap place to get my game on.  It's kinda comforting to know that this place hasn't changed much.  The interior design is cool, with an upstairs and downstairs level for playing pool.  There's definitely a weird vibe to the place, whether it's packed or empty.  Probably because no matter what time of day, it always seems a bit dark in there.  Definitely not a place you'd want to take your first date; probably your 30th or 50th date, if you make it that far.

But if you can get over the weird initial ambiance, you can say that you've finally found a decent place to watch any sports game or shoot some pool.  Maybe it's a different story when there's an actual football game playing, but since they have so many different television stations on, you're most likely not going to have any audio to the sports game you're watching.  Also, as someone has mentioned before, the music is hit or miss.  One night I swear it was Lil' Wayne album night.  But for the most part it's a pretty chill place, except Fridays when it turns into a "club," haha.  Haven't been here yet for those karaoke nights, but I'm sure it'd be interesting to be in.

As for billiards, some of the tables don't have that nice, velvety felt, so be on the lookout and try to snag the better tables.  Also, we noticed that some tables are missing a bridge.  Try to keep one close-by, unless you don't mind bothering other people during their games, or you have your own.  Then it's whatever.

The bartenders are nice and super chill.  We even got a tasty little drink sampler on the house.  And it's comforting to know that on the rowdy weekend nights, there will always be cops around, waiting for you outside. haha.  Must say that there are some quite strange and random people up in there sometimes.  But if you come with your own crowd, it's really not a problem.

The food is not bad.  I've had the super nachos, the BBQ wings, and the cheese quesadillas.  It's your typical bar food but it's surprisingly better than what you think it would be.  Though I wouldn't order the cheese quesadillas alone, I think I'd try it with some carne asada or something else inside next time.

They have free pool and $3 You-Call-Its on Sundays after 9pm.  Pretty freaken awesome to find a place that even offers that.  So worth it, especially if you're on a budget.

All in all, if you strictly want to play pool, don't have any egos, and can ignore all the other random stuffs going on around you, come here.  If you're looking for the club scene or hoping to meet new people, go downtown.

I go for the pool tables, they offer 50% off to APA members. They have great AC and good lighting.

Have never tried the food, but if you go to early good luck getting a drink. Usually the girl bartenders have their breasts just about falling out of their shirts and can't make change if their lives depended on it.

It can get rowdy on Fri and Sat nights but they have great security that take care of any issues, my question is why doesn't the bar cut off the drunks?  Anytime I go on Fri or Sat nights you can almost guarantee to see someone puke?

My rating is for the pool tables and the discount, plain and simple.

Happy hour deals everyday! Plus free games (darts, shuffle board, billiards) after 9pm on Sundays! You can find me here on Sunday nights hitting up the pool tables with friends.

The security guard and bartender play multiple roles. They will take your order, check your ID, etc. There are essentially 3 levels to this place filled with pool tables. The crowd can be a hit or a miss. The music is usually through a juke box with music videos played on the big screen. There are also TVs with sports. It's a full bar on the right side of the place. They do offer some bites to eat but don't expect amazing food. It's your typical bar food of wings, nachos, etc.

Went here on a spare of the moment on a Saturday night, it's been awhile since I was there last and to my surpise they have a DJ now on Saturday nights.  It was pretty packed then what I was used to in the past but I was very impressed that the music was good.  There is a very diverse crowd here.
This place is a decent size to play pool and get your dance on if that's what you decide to do.  They drinks are made pretty stiff here so you get your money's worth.  I need to try this place out on a Friday night for Karoake.

    Try it out!

Lets see.. The bar itself is not so bad. Cool booths, nice pool tables, jukebox...

Now the people..WOW.. handfuls of skanky girls that look like they are gearing up for a good nights work on the blvd. Actually saw one in a very tight (classy of course) dress stand up, almost trip herself then snort coke from under her finger nail..

There are loads of tv s lining the walls.. just so happened while there they had on girls gone wild.. totally uncensored..

    Interesting place.

Pretty sure the pizza is microwave for personal size its $9. And the rent a cop security it up tight Don't Wear Your Hat Backwards! Also they will move you or ignore your order no matter if you spend $100+ or $5 no respect for patrons!

Come for the billiards stay for the skanks. This place is dirty. And I don't mean dirty as in they don't clean the floors. I feel dirty walking into this place. It's the perfect storm of skanks, white trash and thug wannabees. I don't dislike this place as a business. I dislike the clientele. Something about this place makes me think of high school. Like all the sad people you knew from high school who never found something worthwhile to do with their lives. IDK. I just really did not like the vibe here. Douche-wad central.

The DJ sucked. Went on a Saturday night and he started off ok playing hip hop type of stuff then turned techno/electronic but not the good kind. It was like he was trying to turn the place into a club with only 30 people in there. I kindly asked him to play something more atmosphere appropriate and he told me no.  He took himself way to seriously like he was playing some A list Hollywood party and was this great DJ who like created his own beats and spun. Um, all he ever did was pick songs on his Mac and hit play despite having digital turntables available. I had fun with the people I was with but would never go back here. The whole vibe just rubbed me the wrong way.

This bar is defiantly a east county bar not to say their are not some cool places in east county to drink this is not one of them. The only good thing about this place is the amount of pool tables.
If you plan on wearing a beanie in this place they will ask you to take it off some kind of dress code, which is laughable because the best dresses guy in this place was wearing kacki shorts  a t shirt with a bunch of logos on it and a hat with to bill pointed to the moon. Don't go unless you are dragged here. the food is caca and the beer selection you can get at any bar just totally normal nothing special.

    This place stinks!
Wouldn't honor our groupon even though it was in the time period, which essentially means that we paid $50 for $25 worth of food!
The kitchen person wasn't there, but they kept on telling us that they were coming soon so we waited around for hours when we were starving. Finally, the kitchen person arrived it ended up that the menu sucked anyway. We still ordered food, though. The food sucked! BTW, we were watching a sports event and the place was empty so the ambiance sucked. Overall, the worst experience that I've had in a while.

The music is hit and miss. The bartenders I have met are all cool. Regulation tables. Most of the cues are sub par or par. The people that hang here are their own kind of special, byof (bring your own friends).

It's not great, it's not horrible. It is a middle of the road experience.

Kind of odd.  Is it a sports bar?  Is it a dive bar?  WHy is the DJ playing dubstep, then house, then Hip Hop, and only 6 people are on the dance floor?  Who is playing pool?  Why are there 2 stories to this place?  Beer selection...can you please stop being so typical?  I guess for an East County hang out, its decent.  Its super loud, and a little too spacious...the camaraderie is lacking.  Its almost like a mix between MacGregors, A Hole in the wall bar in Chula Vista, Your friends backyard, with booths stolen from Applebees randomly placed near the bar.  20 Bucks will get you 3 average beers and change...I dont know the price for crap beers but im assuming a budlight or one of its siblings is 3 or 4.  Parking is in some shopping center.  GO with friends...a lot of them...and play beer pong...

Good old Joltn Joes I have been going here for a while and have come to get to know the staff who are all cool. I tend to stop in to get away from the downtown and PB scene where I spend most of my time it has an interesting crowd which makes for great people watching. I say it is a cool spot to stop by whether you want to dance or play pool. They now provide a DJ Thursdays' and Saturdays' and Karaoke on Fridays. Happy Hour is legit as well.

Joltin joe's is kinda like a bar you would design if you got really high senior year of highschool and brainstormed on opening a business.  the layout is pretty dope, but the details of the plan, like clientele and service, are overlooked.

basically, this place is fun as hell if you bring your own crowd. Its got errythang: shuffleboard, a gazillion tv's, pool tables, VIP room, ok food, videogames, etc. Also its price is reasonable.

    the problem?

if you go there looking for people, you will encounter more d-bags than a gyno, and more hoe's than a yardworker.

Seriously, i have friends that go here on the regular, and i will attest, they are all d-bags. And the chicks here either happen to be that one annoying girl from highschool whose name you forgot, or "have an ego the size of tim duncan, but crap for brains like a blumpkin".

but its still a fun place. Like many other yelpers, im conflicted about this place: its got tons of good stuff, but for some reason, just rubs me a little the wrong way.

I've been to this place 4 times and honestly have only had to pay for pool once.

The other three times the guy at the register either comped me or couldn't figure out how long I had been there and told me to go ahead.

This place isn't the cleanest place around but they have a huge selection of tables. I like coming here and playing upstairs cause I usually get the whole upstairs to myself.

They have a huge bar area and lots of seats all around. Also a huge seating area outside for smokers.

I've never ordered food or alcohol here so not sure how the service is, but I know they serve food and drinks.

I used to go here quite often years ago before they changed the name to Jolt'n Joes. I liked it much better.

If given the choice of drinking in the company of hipsters or bro-brahs and bro-hoes, I will ALWAYS, ALWAYS select hipsters.

What runs through the mind of someone purchasing a shirt for $60 with big script font reading "One Eight Seven" around the collar?

If 65% of San Diego's population (bros) could just go away forever, maybe even move to Phoenix, I'd be a happy, happy man.

You may want to stay away from Jolt'n Joe's if you went to Helix or Grossmont and wish to keep all random high school reunioning to the traditional 10, 20, 30 year marks, or on facebook.

You may want to come to Jolt'n Joes if you're a bro-hoe with helmet hair (blond on top, dark underneath) a push-up bra and more makeup than a MAC counter.

I count my lucky stars for growing up here and not succumbing to this, the west coast version of the Jersey Shore.

There's a little bit of Washougal, WA in La Mesa, and it's creeping me out. Washougal is a SMALL town. It embodies everything the small town stereotype could ever be.

Seriously. Close your eyes. Think small town. Get a good mental picture going.

Now place a "Welcome to Washougal: Gateway to the Gorge" sign in it. Golden.

It's good to know that douchey bars, push-up bras, and beer pong are just as prominent on a Saturday night 1100 miles away.

It's all sports bar-esque. There are TVs everywhere. There are pool tables everywhere. There are dartboards everywhere. Loud music in the form of Britney Spears and other random nonsense fills the air.

They serve alcohol. It's the only reason it should get a star.

PS - What's with the name? It sounds like it should be a coffee shop.

    In the ghett-ooooo!

This place has more east county rednecks than a monster truck show. That's not necessarily a bad thing though, I mean, they need somewhere to hang out too, right? What better place than Jolt n' Joes, La Mesa to knock back a few while curling the bill of your cap up. The drinks are moderately priced for the grade of venue, it's kinda dingy and dirty. Balls firmly in hand I went upstairs to find that there were people already using the table I was allocated, so I chose a different table and a semi decent cue. Many rounds of 9 ball ensued, and many heinekens were consumed.

Not a bad experience at all, just not really worth the drive out there for the money, there's nicer places to go with better tables for the same price. I was diggin the gangster rap though!

    Meh.

I've been here twice, both on Comic-Con weekends.  Both times I had the veggie burger and it was pretty blah.  I mean, it tasted okay and was decently priced but the only reason I eat here is because it was out of the way of all the mayhem that is Comic-Con.

I wouldn't eat here if I had any other choice but if I am forced too it isn't too it works.

I thought the downtown location was pretty much of a train wreck (http://www.yelp.com/us...), but I've been working lots in La Mesa this month, and decided to check out their La Mesa location, in hopes that it was better than their downtown turd. Turns out, the La Mesa location is just a much larger turd.

Layout is 90% games: 6 electronic dart boards, two ping pong tables, shuffleboard, and a variety of arcade games downstairs. Lots of big (and outdated) projection screens for sports, and an upstairs full of pool tables. That's the good news.

The rest of the place (decor, furnishings, menu, food quality, and service) is just ridiculously bad. The place is generally in disrepair, poorly lit, and the paint appears to be more of a graffiti cover up than any attempt to make the place comfortable. Bar stools in the bar area are falling apart. Menus written in a 6 point font, in the form of those free point of sale table tents (that distributors make for free.) Bartender had no personality to go with her short-shorts and undersized football jersey.

Note, there's an office window on the second floor that looks straight down on the bar, and the entire time we were there for lunch, the staff was being observed through the blinds by what I can only imagine is a very depressed owner. At one point, our bartender took a seat on a barstool behind the bar, and took a sip of a soda. The shadowy figure wagged a finger, and she begrudgingly set the soda down, and began pacing behind the bar like a caged animal.

With a culinary school a stone's throw away, and reviews asserting that culinary students frequent the place, it's a wonder that the food is so craptacular.

Sad to see a place with this much square footage, in a community that's clearly dying for a quality watering hole, operated by folks that are either not making enough money to keep the place up, or are too busy torturing employees from above to notice that they are on a crash course.

I stopped by here during Comicon weekend for lunch because it was one of the less crowded places in the Gaslamp District at the time.  And after my experience there, I could see why.  The place itself is really large, and has multiple entrances so when we walked in, no one greeted us, so we really didn't know where to go.  After walking through the dining area, and still not being greeted, we decided to sit ourselves. It took a good 5 minutes before anyone even recognized the fact that we were sitting there with no menus and no food.  It wasn't like the place was jam packed or anything.  Strike 1

So as we got seated and the waitress finally got to our table, we decided to order just in case we didn't get to see her again.  I guess to put it constructively, the food was uninspiring. I had the chicken wrap, and a beer.  The beer was awesome (as Fat Tire always is), but the wrap was something that i could've gotten at a supermarket deli, and for less!  It was bland, and overly simple.  I wasn't expecting a gourmet dish or anything, but come on, put some flavor into it please. Strike 2

After we finished our food, we wanted to get going back to the convention center, but not only did it take forever for our waitress to come near our table, it took a few tries just to even get her attention to get the check! The whole place just seemed like it didn't know what it was doing. I don't ask for much when i dine for lunch, but i at least expect some cohesion among the staff.  Well, that was Strike 3 and this place struck out with me......

There is not a bar on the planet I am more conflicted on than this place. I mean, it's got almost everything I could ask for. A good sized bar, decent bar grub, usually has some drink specials, spacious, lots of tables and plenty of games to play.

However, basically every statement about their service and their clientele is true.  If you go in on the wrong night, you can feel like you are in Santee not La Mesa. Those of us familiar with the East County know that those two towns are close in proximity but very different otherwise.  I wouldn't let it scare you away, it's not straight out of Road House or anything but as the Bro culture in this bar has grown my interest in going there has faded. Such is life I guess.

I've had many a drunken night at Jolt'n Joe's. MANY. We've celebrated birthdays full of debochary and fun. The girl bartenders and cocktail waitresses are hot and loads of fun if you encourage them to be. The joint itself is large, has plenty of pool tables upstairs and down stairs and a number of other bar games like shuffle board, ping pong, darts and that fun punch the bag game. Large patio for the smokers. They actually have some decent food here.

Problems with this place is that it tends to be a typical E-County bar. On weekends you will find your fair share of bro's and ho's. Fights are inevitable.

Overall, good place to go with a good size group of people, plenty of room, some cute eye candy and cheap drinks...

I use to come here a lot to play some pool, chill with friends when they come into town, and have some beers. They price of pool is the cheapest anywhere I've been. Beer is cheap and on tap.

This place is like a large dive bar with tons of pool tables.
