Neighborhoods: Southwest Portland, Multnomah VillageJohn's Market is my Mecca of Beer, a Holy Land of Hops, the Nirvana of Brews. Walking amongst the stacks of imported, local and obscure brown bottles anticipation sends my body shaking like delirium tremens...the mouth waters more then Pavlov's best friend, and my mind races in an effort to calculate just how much I can bring home without getting into trouble.
As the proud owner of a Keg-o-rator, John's has been my go to spot for kegs. Their selection of beer, both bottled and in keg form, is second to none. Staff is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and beer enlightened.
One of my favorite places to discover new brews!

I rate this place a 5 star strictly for the beer. The store itself is a hole and I wouldn't trust any of the food out of this place, much less the deli. But the beer is what it's all about. They have an unbelievable selection of beers from all over the world and some of the best Belgians that I haven't seen since I was in Belgium. It's a great place to buy one can of several types of beers and go home with some friends and have a little taste test get together.
It's also great for kegs. They have decent priced kegs and the selection is endless. If you let them know ahead of time they can get pretty much anything you desire. I get all my Superbowl party kegs from this place and I've never had a problem with the keg or the taps.
It's all about the beer baby!!!

Walking into John's Market is actually a bit intimidating. This place is absolutely full of beer and wine, everything from the cheapest crap to some really high-end stuff. They host frequent wine tastings and sell some various sundries (t-shirts, ice cream) but what we go there for is the vast selection of beers. This isn't a discount establishment, but the selection is a beer connoisseurs dream.
The one time we tried to eat at their deli, the staff walked away and kept us waiting for five minutes only to come back tell us they were closed. The clerks can be a bit rude, and the ambiance is, honestly, a little creepy. Still, it's a great place to stock up for a party or find something new to try.
