If there is anything Bay Ridge has a lot of, it's pizza places... and we've eaten a lot of them.
This is our A#1 for a regular pie. The best 'za for the price, and hands down the best spinach rolls EVER. I'm drooling just thinking about it. -

I had their vegetable pizza & buffalo wings at my friend's place during superbowl. Pizza was very mushy and the wings were too salty.

This pizzeria has been around for ever. It was one of my favorite places to go to growing up in Sunset Park. Real good pizza and the people there are pretty nice.

I've been going there for years now and have never been disappointed. The meatball grandma pie is outstanding, the parm sandwiches are terrific, and they have the best pepperoni pinwheels I've had to date.

Pizza was just ok. not anything special. The mozzarella sticks were amazing, some of the best ive had in a long time... but there were only 4 of them, most places give you 6-8 maybe the delivery guy got hungry along the way. Delivery guy Giuseppe was the best part, super nice guy. anyway its a pizza place so Im rating the pizza. 2 stars

Why is there black pepper on my pizza???
My boyfriend and I ordered delivery from here... The dough was dry and seemed stale. And please, PLEASE tell me why my pizza with mushrooms had black pepper sprinkled all over it? This was actually hard to get down. I forced myself to finish my one slice, but had to cover it with parm and garlic powder to make it sort of edible.... You know it's bad when I would have preferred Dominos... at least then I know what I'm in for.
The garlic knots were equally dry/stale and disappointing. Not to mention $3 for each additional topping is a little steep.
On to the next.... -

This pizzeria deserves nothing less than five stars! If you live in Brooklyn and you've never eaten here you are not a true New Yorker!
This is one of the only pizzeria's I'll eat in, and what's great is that Johnny's knows they are amazing. It's always jam-packed with regular customers and their customer service is beyond what you'll receive in another pizza joint. Even if they don't know you, they treat you like a regular customer, and that is respect!
And the pizza! If you don't enjoy steaming, deliciously cheesy, over-bearingly saucy pizza then Johnny's is not the place for you. They know how to make pizza, (amongst other food) and they dont' charge much either. Where else can you get a large pie for $14? (That is delicious?)
Seriously, if you are craving some pizza and don't know who to call, skip Domino's or the little corner place, give Johnny's a call and try them out. You won't be disappointed. It's very family oriented and oldschool, so there's nothing about the place that you won't like. -

With so many pizzerias in the neighborhood I read a few reviews and decided to pop in and try out Johnny's
I tried their eggplant Parm hero to stay with a slice while I waited for the hero. The slice was stale and very bland and tasted like it must have sat on the counter way too long.
Since the slice was a bit disappointing, I decided to wait patiently for the eggplant Parm, however the hero was even more disappointing than the slice. For some reason my bread was toasted even after I asked them not to. The eggplant was way over cooked and drenched with sauce so much that even this toasted bread was starting to fall apart.
With so many good pizzerias in the neighborhood I think I think I won't be visiting Johnny's ever again.
As for a Papa John's opening next door I guess they did their research and figured out that they can provide a better quality of pizza than Johnny's can.
On a good note, the prices were good and the place was clean, that's why 2 stars instead of 1 -

After a rigorous move-in, I was starving. Not wanting to go to the store or unpack my cooking supplies, I scouted the neighborhood for a pizza shop. Strolling 5th avenue I stumbled upon two pizza shops...Two neighbors...Two similar names. Johnny's Pizzeria and Papa John's Pizza. It must be the Twilight Zone. Being a new Brooklynite, I deduced that it was my duty to visit Johnny's.
I ordered a Large Pizza Pie and some garlic knots. The order was made and I carried it home. When I got home, I found my knife and sliced the tape on a moving box. Ruffling through the box I found one of my plates. I took it out and placed it on the counter. I opened the pizza box and inhaled the greatness that is freshly made dough pizza. I grabbed two slices. As I transported the pizza from the box to my plate, the steaming hot pizza cheese strung out, refusing to break. Good cheese. I stuck my mouth close by and chomped the cheese. Delicious!
I finished the two slices and went back into the kitchen. I opened the white bag containing my garlic knots. These were no ordinary garlic knots. They had ham and cheese baked into them. I was excited to try these things! I chose three knots for my plate and went back to my chair. I picked up my first knot and bit into it. OUCH! It had been burnt to a very hard blackened crisp. I couldn't even bite into it. I broke it up with my hands and shoved it in my mouth. I began chewing with my strong molars. Now again I felt a very queer sensation in my mouth. To my horror it was tin foil. Tin foil had been baked into the knots. I was very disappointed. I spit the masticated knot into the toilet in a mock vomit style and threw the rest of the knots in the trash. The alley cats can feast on these.
The pizza was good. I can't say it was my best. But it was probably better than anything at Johnny's Papa. -

On a football Sunday, dropped in and ordered a pie with two toppings. . Excellent crust and cooked just right for my liking. These guys still know their stuff. Friendly folk as well. If you like your pizza a certain way, let them know. I've always found them pretty down to earth.

Stopped in after having not eaten here in a very long time. Had one slice of regular cheese pizza. The crust was thin and crispy, which I like, but the pizza just really did not stick out for me. It was good, don't get me wrong, but nothing sticks out. I had to add garlic powder, salt and oregano for it to taste at least decent. I shouldn't have to add all that. I should have ordered the mozzerella pizza like I did before, maybe that was my mistake....but a classic cheese pizza should be easy to get right, especially in New York.

Brooklyn, NY
This is our go-to place for pizza delivery. The pizza is fantastic. The pie rarely fits in the box without being folded over on itself. I like my pizza with more cheese, and this place does just that.
The chicken rolls and calzones are great, too. There knots are a little disappointing, but that's a minor complaint.
Delivery can be a bit slow, usually around an hour, but it's worth the wait. The regular delivery guy is delightful. He's always at the door with a "Hello! How are you and the family?" and a big smile.
It's great to have such an authentic pizza joint like this! -

I've had a lot of pizza at a lot of places. You can't get better pizza at a better price with better service anywhere in Brooklyn. The pizza is always hot and their garlic knots are fresh. Don't expect a huge menu, but do expect real good pizza. In addition, this place is an old school pizza place and has a long history in the community in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
Hit it up! They close at 11PM in the weekdays. -

I never supported this place years ago when they were trying to stop the papa johns from openings next door for two reasons the first one being that the pizza is ok but if you put it up against other pizza places it sucks and the other reasons is there late night hours suck your closing at 11pm on a Friday night ? Meanwhile papa johns next door well not the best pizza stays open to 1am which works well for late night workers.

This is my local pizza stop. They have the best chicken parm and spaghetti platter of any pizza joint ive been to.
Great selection of different types of pizza and a lot of different rolls and calzones. I wish they were open later...I think they actually close at 10.

Good pizza.
And they sponsor local stuff like kids' baseball and firemen's funds.
Local is good.

Did you know a damned Papa John's chain pizza joint is opening RIGHT NEXT DOOR? Oh, hell no!
I am going to be eating a lot of JOHNNY'S pizza now, just to spite the chain.
Damn The Man. And damn all his mega-corporation bad pizza. -

Looking to have your order made with perfection?
Try their eggplant parmigiana hero toasted and you'll be floored. The delivery time does take a bit longer than usual, but my sandwich comes scorching hot everytime and their delivery guys are very friendly!
I would highly recommend Johnny's! Will write an update once I try their pizza. -

This place has been my go-to since I moved here, but that fifth star is not as much for the pies as it is for my delivery guy.
This squat, affable dude has got a habit of running up and down my apartment steps in his middle age, but he is never in a hurry while talking to me. Lately I've taken to ordering their Grandma pie (square with a thin, crisp crust, a layer of their slightly sweet house sauce and thin slices of fresh mozzarella), which seems to have struck a chord with him. He takes it on himself to be this pizza's hype man, and he is good at it.
The first time I ordered the Grandma, I open the door to find this guy beaming ear to ear, all excited, all eager to talk to me about how this one is the best pizza, the real pizza, how happy he was that I ordered it. Now where most delivery guys are happy to get in and out of there as quickly as possible, considering I'd already bought the damn thing, this guy genuinely wanted to talk to me about how good this pizza is and to prepare me for the enjoyment that this pie would impart unto my life. As far as hype men go, Johnny's has hit the motherlode with this guy: the equivalent of Puffy swaying his arms and doing spins around their Notorious P.I.E., the Brigitte Nielsen smoking cigarettes at Grandma Drago's pre-fight press conference. He is the spirit animal in my pizza vision quest. -

The Bad
- Not much available choices
- Greedy with toppings
The Good
- Great customer service
- Buy 10 pies, get 1 free. (Have to collect stamp that is on box)
- Free soda with every pie
The Bottomline- I've been going here for a while. The price is good, not overpriced. Now that other pizzeria's are popping up all over 5th avenue, Johnny's should add more variety to their menu. Grandma's Original, like 2 blocks away, have more choices but a bit more expensive. Johnny's Pizzeria is a little better average pizzeria. I think it's worthwhile checking it out. -

Man, where do I start. I used to prefer this pizza joint over the other pizzeria nearby, now called "Grandma's", a few years ago, but their employees have gotten increasingly nonchalant with their services. Along with that, their pizza has gotten heavier with cheese. There's so much cheese on their pizza now that a single slice could essentially be used as a boat anchor. More isn't always better Johnny. Additionally, they consistently manage to burn the crust. Im sorry but I do not want my pizza to overly charred and ashy. It's embarrassing for them to even consider serving anyone that.

I ordered delivery from this place for the 1st time tonight, and we were happy with it. The pizza was delivered fast...and it was huge. I mean, a family of 4 could eat at least 2 meals from 1 of their pies. The delivery was free and the pie was only $16. We got the Sicilian, and I tend to like my squares more saucy than cheesy--this was a very cheesy pie. It was good, but the taste was nothing to write home about.
I may be willing to give them another shot and try something else. I would say that this place if worth a try for the shear bang for your buck. -

I love me some Johnny's! I have easily racked up over 1000 points on http://delivery.com due to johnny's delicious pizza and other entrees. It is relitively inexpensive considering you can get a large pie and a 2 liter soda for under $15. Not to mention their garlic bread is great and so are their buffalo wings.
Also, the delivery guys are great. There is one guy in particular who always has a cheery disposition and knows our order and names. Pretty fantastic. Sometimes the wait is a little lengthy but never over 1hr. -

Really Really LIke this place- Like the Irish places still holding down Inwood, I love the Italians holdin down what used to be a mostly Italian area.
I just didnt think the slice was that good. Foldability- not great- but I can get past that... what I didnt really like was how easilly the teeth could slice off a bite. Like fishing, you want to put up a fight with a good slice.
The sauce was good, original- but cheese was not the best.
I got excited upon entering "this may be another "three Boys PIzza (Bronx)"- but it didnt live up- I wil try again- kinda late at night may have been a wak slice. -

Crispy delicious pizza for a pretty good deal. They even gave us a bottle of pepsi with our order which was nice of them. I was a bit disappointed that there was such a thin layer of cheese though, it was more dough and sauce!

Grandma's Pie...that's all I have to say.
It's a square pie with their deliciously sweet sauce, a mix of herbs and olive oil, fresh mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. It is utter perfection. There is no need to make it fancy or add any toppings. It comes perfect "as-is".
The guys are friendly and fast and the walk up window makes it easy to order on the go.
It isn't the best that Brooklyn has to offer, but it sure is better than the Papa John's next door! -
Review from Jin Y.
There are just so many great pizzerias in this neighborhood. One day I stumbled upon a special from Johnny's $6 for a 14" pie! I'm there! The pizza guy told it'll be ready in 10-15 minutes and it's ready every time I head over to pick it up never had to wait. The pizza, I thought it tasted okay, cheese and sauce was just right, bread was thin, but the crust was a little hard, with a softer crust it'll be perfect.

Review from Carlos C.
What can I say Johnny's Pizza is a Sunset Park must. Their grandma slice is real, real good, cheesy, evenly spiced, super fresh mozzarella, is what Italians would call bennissimo. Their customer is not bad, neither. After you order you take a seat, the worker will bring the pizza to your table. Is real good and I would never go to Papa Johns which is located right next door to Johnny's. Johnny's is cool in my book.

It takes a while for a delivery to arrive, but the wait is worth it. The eggplant parm is amazing. The baked ziti (with anything you want to add) is so good. Everything comes with bread, butter, and a small salad. The guys who deliver are friendly and talkative.
We've gotten the pizza, and it's solid. The thin squares (I forget if they call them grandma's or margarita's) are so, so good. However, the meals are what is amazing about this place. Usually there's enough that I can have the extra for lunch. -

This is a place I have been to since I was young. Mom's always complained that the prices were expensive, but the ingredients were pretty fresh. Ate there today, and it brought back some memories.
Their prices for pizza is decent.. and $2 for 5 Garlic Knots... that was a $1 for 5 years ago... so now I guess the standard is $2 now. -

The Ray's of the world can suck it - Johnny's is where it's at.
I've been ordering from Johnny's for sevenish years now, and they've been solid the whole time. Want to wow your out of town guests for a mere $20? Order a pie from Johnny's. It's the perfect example of why people talk about New York pizza. -

Johnny's pizza is molto bene. The slices are huge and the ingredients are super fresh tasting.
This is the best pizza in the neighborhood-- hands down. And never will you ever experience a delivery driver with so much class. I really like this place.

Pretty good pizza. The grandma pie is quite nice, although their sauce is a bit sweet for me. The best I've had in Sunset Park so far--nothing I'd go out of my way for, but a reliable local option.
Other pros: the delivery guys are super-friendly and you can order online! -

I liked this pizzeria until i discovered better. They don't have whole wheat pizza and i ordered a bunch of veggies..not much was given. The grandma's pie wasn't great either..I guess the good thing about this pizzeria is the stamps and that it's close to me. I feel bad for them because papa johns opened next to them. They've been open for a really long time. The employees are very nice.

When heading to Sunset Park to do some shopping (and you know you need to some), definitely have a slice at Johnny's Pizzeria. This is old school Brooklyn pizza at its best. My Mom and I have been coming here for years - even after we moved out of the neighborhood. The slices are generous and flavorful. The guys behind the counter are very nice and there are lots of options of beverages to have with your food. Come on down and support a local business that is worth the trip. A classic Brooklyn slice and a Coke is all you need to have a great time here.

It is some of the best pizza in Brooklyn by the slice. The pepperoni rolls and ziti pizza are amazing. The one time I had them deliver though it was pretty average. Good thing I walk by them all the time.

Been going to this place since it opened back in the day. One of the best sicilian pizza and grandma pies I have ever had. Even when I didnt live in the neighborhood, I would be sure to stop in and get a slice. The zeppoles are v v good. The place is now run by John Jr. who still spins plenty of pizza and heros out during the day. They even opened a papa shits pizza joint right next door. They suck, JOHNNYS rules. Aint nuthing like the real thing. Forgettaboouutit !!!!!!
