I love this place!  It is one of the few places in Boulder that you can walk into almost anytime and find someone cool to talk to.  And that's a lot coming from a female who usually has to deal with all the moron wannabe gigolos at the bar.  Sure, Johnny's has a handful of those, but for the most part, the regulars are really interesting and friendly.  The atmosphere is very low-key, and I don't know what Dustin G. wanted to drink, but I think that $5 for a cocktail is pretty standard in Boulder unless you're going to the Scumdowner.  (AND the drinks at Johnny's aren't watered down!)  Poker night is definitely not the best time to go - I recommend Thursdays or Fridays when they have live music...

Cozy, warm....and truly eclectic..

The music is soft jazz...piano, with mello vocals...
Also, a Brazillian group.....very popular...

I'm with "freckle b"....I love this place,
And Rosie....I "exist...." and have no "dog in the hunt"....
I thought the "British Lady" was charming....and one of the most knowlegable people I've ever met on the Beatles...

I get the feeling that some of the negative comments may be from
people that loath tobacco, to the point of bad-mouthing any
bar that has a smoking room...I have no such predjudice..."let freedom ring"...is my motto.

Question for the posters here?

Anybody know of a REAL piano bar in Boulder, or anything between Denver & Loveland? Perhaps one that caters to more senior clientell?

I would have given Johnny's two stars, but dropped it down to one after seeing the other reviews here.  I am truly disappointed in the fact that people are so blatantly abusing Yelp in an effort to boost reviews for their workplace and/or local hangout.  Clearly, none of the people who have written reviews for Johnny's actually exist....well, except for Dustin G. who actually uses Yelp for it's original intent and has written 400 reviews thus far.  Way to go Dustin!

But I digress...Yelp's intent is to provide people an overall idea of the quality of establishments by averaging the ratings of ordinary people like you and I.  Abusing this medium is shallow and obvious.  You are not fooling anyone by creating a profile and writing only one review.  And even you, Mark M. and natalie t., nice try writing two reviews.  Too bad they are both for the same two places...  If you are going to try to inflate or deflate an establishment's ratings, at least TRY to make it believable.

As for my actual review of Johnny's, I came here while in town with a friend.  We liked the idea of going somewhere we could hang out and maybe smoke cigars.  The place itself is nice enough, but the owner is just plain weird.  When we spoke to him, he seemed really out of it.  Thankfully, we dealt with the servers more often and they seemed pleasant.  The drinks are way over-priced for what they are and the other clientele are questionable.

Overall, I think Johnny's is a waste of a great opportunity.  Just because you are one of the only cigar bars in the area, doesn't mean you should charge so much for drinks.  And maybe you shouldn't over serve that crazy British lady (I'm assuming she's a regular because one of the other "reviewers" [read: employees] mentioned her)!  I would not seek out Johnny's as a place to go if I were in the area again.

I went to this faux swanky bar once, and only once for some free poker they were offering. (This free poker tournament consisted of drunks and douche-bags but this wasn't the bars fault). In any case, I usually feel sort of obliged to buy something when I play free poker, so I scanned the menu...........nothing under $5 including beer. The drinks were 10+. Seriously....a 12 pack of corona can be found for $12. Marking these up 5 times is just...NO.

Uh.......guess I'll go sit down at my seat now....

Anyway, this place is smallish with the walls lined with the various cigar options you can buy. I'm not so into cigars, but my friend bought one, at around $10.

Seriously, this place is cramped and not that nice. The crowd is weird, and definitely not a scene I would recommend.

But they were nice enough to have free poker, so that's at least 1 star extra.
