I am a creature of habit (lazy?) and rarely leave my neighborhood. So imagine my delight when Johnny's opened up. Fortunately I dont have to fight the Club Los Globos crowd for a parking space so can't comment on that, but once inside, there is almost always a seat at the bar or one of the tables. Pluses to note: the jukebox is full of corkers, the ladies bathrooms always have toilet paper (what fun!) and they have good beers including cider. Minuses: no hard liquor (I refuse to drink a soju martini) but i hear that may change soon.

I'm hesitant to review Johnny's because I love it so much. I love that it's never too crowded. I love that you can get to know the bouncer by name, and that he remembers you each time you come back. I love the "Old Hollywood" atmosphere, and the low-key scene, no matter if you come early on a weeknight, or late on a Friday night. I love all the memories I have of good times with my Silver Lake friends at this place, where there is always enough room for everyone to sit down on the leather couches and meet new Silver Lake friends, and just hang out together. So do me a favor and don't go to Johnny's, because if everyone starts going here, I'll have to write about how crowded it is and how you have to line up on Sunset just to get in, and how there's a new bouncer every week, and it's so loud you can't hear yourself talk. I'm begging you, go somewhere else.

My oh my this place is sly... Mellow atmosphere is the key here. You can actually have a group conversation without saying "What?!?" every two sentences. I love that about this place. I also love the bar itself. It's horseshoe shaped, quality cabinetry, with the most stylish wine rack overhead echoing the curvature of the bar below. Speaking of curves, the large format pinup girls lining the walls give the place a great feel as well, which echos whispers of the past, being that Johnny's was once a strip joint dubbed "The Cave".
Now I am echoing the sentiments of another reviewer, in that I would hate for the place to get too hip and become over run with night owls.... The place is small as it is, and right now they have the perfect population density...
Please read the other reviews as this one is meant to be in addition to and complementary there of.

I love this place. The vibe is great, the people are cool, normally. Bartenders are always nice to me... great beer selection. It's pretty small, but that's also one of the things I like about it! It gets 5 stars, this place has never done me wrong.
If you ever see me in Johnny's Bar, say Hey, I read your Yelp review, and I'll buy you a drink ;-)

Update: Johnny's has closed, although they haven't stopped paying the electric bill because the martini sign still lights up at night.
This place was my favorite watering hole because I could walk there. I guess I'll now be hitting up Los Globos.

Soju, Sake, Wine & Beer only folks. No hard alcohol.
They have a great drink menu, each drink is the name of another bar/club/person in the Silverlake & Echo Park area. It's funny sitting across the street from Silverlake Lounge, while sipping on a drink named Silverlake Lounge. Add to the kicks by eating a tamale from the [in]famous Tamale Man, and drinking his drink while at the bar. Also try their Soju Martini and Soju Bloody Mary.. bloody delicious!
The bouncer is a sweet heart, who never forgets a face -- and in Hollyworld that's not always easy to come by.
Don't let the drinks fool you, this place packs a punch. The walls are covered with huge oil paintings of 50's pin up girls (painted by a local artist I believe) the seats are leather & comfy, the bar is romantic, and I'll admit I've been naughty out on the smoking strip.
Every inch of this small local bar is welcoming. The bartenders play great punk/rock music, sling great drinks and believe in good conversation.
Also the layout makes it a nice and cozy atmosphere for a group of friends.
You may have trouble finding it, because there isn't a sign. Instead there is a glowing martini glass I think. Either way, you can't miss it if you keep in mind that it's right across the street from Silverlake Lounge.
