Great food, I get the 2/2/2. There French toast bites are very good. Food is never greasy either. This is my go to breakfast place!

Sigh.
OK so if you're gonna put the word GRITS in your name, in FLORIDA, you'd better be serving some killer grits. Mmm, not so much. At least the day we were there they were just plain, unsalted, unsweetened, uncheesy, un-anything, watery grits. Boo! The shrimp was big and cooked alright but just tasteless and bland. No grill marks, no Cajun seasoning( no any seasoning for that matter), no cheese, nothing. Pass the salt, please!
The Banana Bread French Toast was pretty good. Not as wow as it sounded but good. One nice surprise was the candied pecans scattered on the plate - really nice touch. Oddly they only offer it as a stand alone entree (with no sides) so it can't be ordered as the "French Toast" side or as a combo.
Bathrooms were clean, cute and well stocked. I'd give them another 1/2 star for that if I could.
We drove from Belleair to Tarpon to check it out but I doubt we'd make the drive again. Putting this in my "One & Done" Collection.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michael M.Tampa Bay, FL14130Dec 7, 2023
Updated menu, great eats!
Try Shrimp n Grits!!
Just as their menu describes, picture this: blackened shrimp, charred tomatoes, chopped bacon all mixed in their organic grits and to top it off their top secret flavor:
Sherry wine cream sauce.
I wanted creative and that's exactly the mouth watering taste I received. I tried to prolong each bite to extend the goodness which made my breakfast and made my day.
I applaud their new menu with lots of creative options for breakfast and lunch.
They close at 2PM so make sure you get in early. The weekends can get crowded . . . Lots of locals and vacationers have discovered Johnny Grits. They've developed quite a consistent following. Definitely worth a visit or two or three or more!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Barbara D.WI, WI04Apr 21, 2024Updated review

The food was amazing and the staff was so friendly! We came with a 2 year old and 6 month old and they were so accommodating. Highly recommend!

Heading home from a weekend event we thought we'd stop in here. We were seated right away which was great but then the service went downhill.
We sat there for 10 mins with other servers walking by looking at us but no one coming over to give us menus or ask what we wanted to drink. When someone finally came over I let them know I had a free app from checking in on yelp. That appetizer did not come out until our food arrived.
It took probably 25 mins to get a cup of water which was frustrating as I was quite thirsty. At that time we made sure to put in all our order for the rest of our food.
I had ordered the biscuits and gravy, my friend got the bowl version, two friends had 2/2/2, and my other friend had the breakfast sandwich. The taste of everything was fine, it was good food but probably would never go back sadly.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Dec 3, 2023
Went to Johnny grits for breakfast today. Overall we really liked the experience. I had the andouille bowl. It had nicely browned home fries under 1/4" dice andouille sausage which was also browned and scrambled eggs. The whole thing was topped with a cheese whiz type sauce, which I like, and finely ground jalapeños for some spice. I loved it; low carb and very satisfying. My wife tried the corned beef hash which was just OK. Definitely from a can then doctored up so we won't order it again. The rest of her breakfast of eggs, grits and toast were very good.It wasn't too busy at 9:00 on Sunday so service was quick and efficient. The seating was not overly crowded which was very comfortable. They offer Google Pay so check out is quick if you use it. We look forward to coming back and trying other menu items.

When I visited Tampa my friend took me to this nice little spot for breakfast and EVERYTHING was very tastefully made. I ordered steak breakfast. I was hesitant about the biscuit, but that was the Best thang on the plate. It was so good and fulfilling. Seeing yellow grits on the menu had me hesitant but happy I went.
