When the best things on your menu are the free bread and the dessert, that's probably a sign.
The bread with olive oil and roasted garlic and herbs and pepper and salt is divine. PROVIDED that the bread is hot and fresh. If they try to pawn off a cold loaf on you, send that back.
The food is Olive Gardenesque. Super heavy on sauce and butter, nothing especially wonderful. The veal is probably the best they have to offer.
The best dessert by far is the lemon torte. The lemon cream filling delight in the middle, mmmmm. That's a plate-licking good dessert.
Service has always been fine and the interior decor is a bit too shmaltzy.
Wish I could do 2.5 stars. Its not bad, but its not great, either. I wanted to go out to eat tonight, and this place was convenient for where I live. The food, service, and atmosphere were all just "meh." I'm even having trouble getting motivated to write this review.

It was my birthday dinner, so that makes this pretty disappointing. I wanted to go someplace nicer, but middle of the week, work, school, and all night tupperware parties makes going out difficult when you have responsibilities. I wish the dinner had been good, but it was just "meh."
Did I say that already? Hmmm... where is my ginko biloba? I'm getting older you know. I forget things more easily than I used to.
Oh, hey... did I tell you that today is my birthday? I got a cool watch... wish dinner had been better.
I could talk in circles all day. It drives my daughter crazy, so that means I find it highly amusing.
They should call it "Johnny Carino's Meh-style Italian Slophouse" - they should have an official renaming ceremony where no one shows up because no one cares. Even if they gave out free food no one would care. There they sit, all lonely, wanting customers, but no one will show up the the Italian Meh-Style Slophouse.
I just realized they are located between a Denny's and a Rudy's. That's kind of appropriate, you know. Denny's = "Eek! Methinks not", Carino's is "Meh, I've experienced better", and Rudy's is "Yay! I'm a fan."
That's enough rambling from me. I'll try for a better place next year - maybe McDonald's.

The service was fine and the food was fine, but I would prefer someplace that draws me back instead of a place that we just settle for.
I will keep looking for a local Italian place that beckons.
I hate this place, just being straight saying it!! DISGUSTING!! Lets start this journey on one of my worst eating out experiences ever. So my BF, his friend and myself decided that we wanted italian food and that Johnny Carino's was right there in the area. When we got there we stood there for like 10 min waiting for the host to seat us and I don't know how many employees looked over our way and keep it pushing. RUDE MUCH!! Next when we were finally seated we ordered drinks and my bf friend asked for water... he brought her sprite!! Now riddle me this, does water sound like sprite... I know sometimes when i'm lazy i slur my words together (i asked for Iced Tea and they gave my Hi C at a Mcdonalds awhile back) but these too don't sound alike at all. She is not the kind of person to complain so she just let it go... where human we me mistakes right. The only problem with her drinks there were little bugs floating around in them (don't know what they were maybe nats) but thats NASTY!!
Next we decide to order, my bf wanted minestonie soup... they ran out of that... he wanted lasagna... they ran out of that!! Now when I go to a restraunt its because I don't want to cook something and I want them to prepare it for me, nothing makes me more mad then the fact that restraunts run out of certain entree espcially when I have my tongue set on a certain thing. He blew it off and got something else.
Now believe it or not something else happened... I got a cesar salad and guess what I find in it. A piece of hair!! AGHH!! What is going on with this place? GROSS!! DISCUSTING!! That was my BOILING POINT!! I was done we booked it out of there...
Horrible Horrible Service You Have Been Warned!!
