John is awesome. I was a mess when I first saw him. I was really really serious. He did 4 weekly sessions with me and there's significant improvement in a month. I'm impressed. I'm expected to even finish healing not as long as I thought so he's really not the kind of shrinks that let you depend on them then later on they become one of your burdens. He really tries to help you heal then get the heck out of there as soon as he can.

I'm not sure what John specializes in but you can ask him when you make your first phone call to him and see if he's familiar with the area where you're having a problem. I only know since his clientele includes the more artistic / alternative community, he's very accepting and open to people of differences compared to other more conservative old school shrinks, which is what I'm looking for. He can connect to me fast, pretty much use a language that's effective and I'm comfortable with to communicate and start working on the problems right there. He gives homeworks for me to fill out inbetween sessions and those homeworks help when I'm doing them too. He does not just throw you some BS terms and diagnose you like shrinks do. He actually works on your problems with you together without naming / pigeon-hole-ing you the whole time, which is really what visiting a shrink is all about.

He has a little old office full of things and a cute kittie there in this older business building that needs some work. He also smokes so you gotta deal with the smell although of course he doesn't smoke when he's in a session. So he's not the fancy Beverly Hill industry leader kind of shrink. He's the more down-to-earth rolling-up-the-sleeves-working hands-on type of guy.

He works until 9PM so it's pretty good for working people to schedule appointments. He charges $12X a 50-mins. session but he takes sliding scale too if you're qualified. He is a very well mannered guy, always walks me to my car after a session even if the next client's waiting to make sure female clients're safe. He has a welcoming smile and is very approachable. I'm glad I chose the right guy.
