Review from Michael W.
Dubuque, IA
Poor Dubuque. For years, Dubuquers have prayed for a franchise seafood restaurant to call their own. Alas, our puny market and proximity to larger cities scared off the likes of Red Lobster. But lo and behold, a small franchise called Joey's saw our fair city and saw that it was good! At last, a seafood franchise that didn't look at our average income per capita and run away! That's cause for celebration, right? Right?
No matter how I looked at it, dinner at Joey's was strictly average. The place is a franchise, and everything about it screams corporate mediocrity. I have no specific beef with franchises if they do their thing well - Macaroni Grill, for example. But Joey's was just not up to par. I ordered salmon, which was ok. Not the best, but ok. A little bland without lemons or capers. Just a dollop of tartar sauce on the side, which I found a bit strange. I also had a Caesar salad, which was no good. It wasn't spicy or tangy like a true Caesar, and I'm pretty sure there were no anchovies in there, either (ironic, isn't it?). Our waiter was friendly and helpful, which is about the best thing I can say about the place. Sorry Charlie!
