I'm a coastal transplant and was really jonesing for some seafood a couple weeks ago. A co-worker recommended Joey's and I finally got around to trying it a few days ago. How good can seafood be 1500 miles from the nearest ocean? Well, I was pleasantly surprised!
Joey's is located on the other side of the mall from from Macy's on Stadium, near the Shoe Carnival. It's a wee bit hard to see from Stadium as you're driving by, but just aim for the blue sign at the end of the row.
I found Joey's to be inviting with warm lights and a grill meets nautical theme...modern but not too glossy decor. Everything was clean, including the bathrooms, which is always an important factor with me!
The food was very good as well. We split the Crab Quesadilla, which had real crab in it, not surimi. I tried it with the sour cream and pico de gallo it was served with, but found that the condiments tend to drown out the crab. The quesadilla is great on its own.
The hubby, not a huge seafood fan, partook from the grill section of the menu with the Steak Medallions. He enjoyed it, but gladly accepted morsels from my side of the booth!
I had the Cajun Boil which is described as, "shrimp, crab legs, mussels and andouille sausage served up with fresh red potatoes and corn on the cob." It was served on wax paper with plenty of wet wipes and melted butter for dipping, not that it needed it. Originally, the boil was only available on the weekend, but due to popular demand, it can be enjoyed any day...and I can see why! Nice and spicy, yet not unpleasantly so, and a generous portion.
The service was quick and very friendly even though we arrived toward the end of the night. In fact, the owner was making the rounds introducing himself and making sure everyone was taken care of.
All in all, Joey's is good seafood at a reasonable price and ritzy enough to meet the needs of Date Night. We'll be back!
