I contracted Joe to make a bread table for one of our clients. He never made the table after promising he had for weeks and weeks. Finally, after more than two months he admitted he never made it and said he would refund the money. Months later I am still out $450 for a table that was never made.
Worst upholsterer I have ever worked with. Ever.
Joe's ruined our heirloom dining seat covers, then disappeared.
We contacted Joe's to have the seats of an antique dining set re-stuffed. We explained that the seat covers were handmade by my wife's grandmother. Joe said he understood and would treat them with extreme care when restuffing the six seats. He charged us a premium because of the extra care and detail work that might be involved.
He put the covers into a standard washing machine and destroyed every single one. None can be fixed. They were really cool; now, they are trash.
He then put some really ugly covers on our chairs as a "temporary fix." He said that the antique covers were from an older pattern, which he had located and would have the heirloom covers replaced in two weeks. We called him once every two weeks for about 2.5 months, but he wouldn't answer our calls. Once, when I called from a different phone, he answered immediately, though. Since we were never rude or angry with him, I knew he was just avoiding our calls via caller ID because he had no intention of actually replacing the covers. The last call to him was 5 months after we last saw him. It took quite a while for him to remember our chairs. Then, he just had a long silence on the phone before saying "I'm still working on it."
Long story short, he carelessly ruined the covers because he said that they couldn't be washed before he took them. Then, he pretended that he would make up for it. Then, he ditched us.
