This is my new favorite coffee shop in Boulder. It's around the corner from my work and they pull the best shots in town.
It's down to earth, reasonably priced and well, not Starbucks.
haha, can you read kanji? Suppose not, otherwise I'd have a weblink for you. My Google-fu tells me someone in Japan is as stoked about Joe's Espresso as I am :]
This place is about as close to the authentic little east coast coffeehouses I haunted in Baltimore and DC as I've found in Boulder. The baristas are friendly, chatty and tattooed. They know their shots, they pull 'em strong and rich, and they make an art form of every drink. From 3-6 on weekdays, you can get dollar caps, with a glorious fern-leaf finish in the foam.
And, whatever else you do, please don't go there expecting to get a double- skinny- no-f oam- half- caf- caramel-macchiato- with- sprinkles. Not only will you (probably) not get one, you'll likely also get sarcastic haggling by the baristas. This is a Good Thing. If you want that blithering nonsense, kindly go to Starbucks, you unevolved yuppie scum. And your little designer dog, too.
Bonus points for the "Unattended Children Will Get an Espresso and a Free Puppy!" sign on the cash register.
