I went back to JnR when I was ready for a bigger job. I needed to get my two bathrooms fixed up and remodeled (had some water damage in the walls) so I called Thom at JnR.
He has great design services and also is very interested in getting me a solution that's within my budget and classy at the same time. He gave me suggestions on where to shop for tiles, and was ready to be there for me when I needed help. He really does have a passion for design and cares much about customer satisfaction.
The construction company he worked with was wonderful. People were professional and did everything according to code. Even the city inspector said something about how their work was done appropriately and well... I think he said something about them "floating the tiles." (or something like that) Anyways, everything was done well, and at a price that was affordable for me. I'd definitely recommend them.1 Previous Review: Show all »

My husband and I found JNR Design Solutions LLC on Yelp and worked with Thom to completely remodel our 1940's bathroom. The room had to be rebuilt from the sub floor up because of damage caused by the previous owners of the house we just purchased.
I found Thom to be a pleasure to work with. He responded to inquiries promptly, communicated clearly, was always cheerful, enthusiastic and helpful, even on the weekends. He went out of his way on a number of occasions to help us solve design problems within our rather limited budget. He was incredibly resourceful and competent. He was never pushy, but offered excellent advice on quality vs. price. He was very knowledgeable about products and he knew exactly where to go to find what we wanted. For example he spent a lot of time getting us the best price for tile and making sure color and finish matched. (We had no idea there were so many options for "white")
I liked that I always knew exactly what I was getting. He checked in with us at every step, and kept a close eye on the contractors doing the work. He put a great deal of time into making sure we were happy with the work, and even more time into helping us solve the inevitable problems that occur with an old house (ours was built in 1940). When there was a problem (like when one of the lamps was installed upside down or when the toilet was too big for the 1940's plumbing), he got it solved. He kept us on budget (we actually came in $100 under) for a large project. He understood what we were asking for when we said we wanted a bathroom with modern convenience and vintage feel and we got great value for what we could afford. He even came on a Saturday to teach us how to apply drywall mud to our living room wall! Now that's service for a man hired to manage our bathroom remodel!
We love our new bathroom and we will be calling him again as soon as we are ready to do the next project on the house. -

Lots of companies may give you a remodel design plan, possibly throw a couple of contractor referrals your way, and then wash their hands of the project. But JNR doesn't stop there. They see the project through to completion, helping with contractor selection, and making sure the plans are carried out efficiently and properly.
Thom, the owner, consulted with me and worked very hard to create (and revise more than once as I changed my mind about things) a design for a complete kitchen remodel that would meet my needs and budget. This wasn't a cookie-cutter approach, but a thoughtful consideration of what would work in my home and how to keep the budget in check without sacrificing quality. Additionally, he identified (and vouched for!) good contractors to do the work. Not only did the contractors do high quality work, but their prices were very competitive (after all, they don't want to lose continued referrals through JNR).
Once the work was underway, JNR's services really stood out. Thom coordinated with all the contractors, visited the job site to make sure things were being done correctly, and was incredibly proactive, addressing issues before they became problems and usually before I was even aware of them. As a result, unlike projects before JNR, the remodel project went smoothly and I could spend my time living my life instead of dealing with problem contractors. Not only do I have a beautiful new kitchen, but I kept my sanity in the process. That alone is priceless! -

JNR made my life so much easier. I know many people wonder why one need a design solution, especially one thinks that he/she already know what needs to be done. I tell ya, it is so worth it.
Thom at JNR doesn't just help you with design drawings, select materials and gives advice. He listened to my problem and provide a solution to my home remodelling! I was so happy that he provided a solution that saved me money, solved the problem and with much better results! -

In a word, JNR Design Solutions is superb.
My husband and I had been planning to remodel our home for a couple of years. It was a large job, involving tearing down walls and modifying a powder room to expand a small kitchen and open it up to a living/dining area. The design aspect was complicated: the space we had to work with was not large, we needed to recuperate cabinets that would be lost by tearing down a kitchen wall, the kitchen space had to transition into the dining space and then into the rest of the living space, and we had a relatively modest budget.
Not knowing any designers, we took to Yelp and found Thom from JNR. We were, admittedly, a little leery we used Yelp for restaurants, but to spend tens of thousands of dollars remodeling our home? From our first phone conversation we felt that Thom understood our frustration and needs. He met with us at our home to explain how he works and what we could expect from him. We were very impressed with his professional presentation and with all of the ideas he shared that evening. After that, he developed an initial plan an almost life-like computerized rendering of our remodeled space that allowed us to clearly visualize what it could look like, all within our budget. By the time we signed our contract, we were confident that Thom was going to deliver a first-class product. No one else (e.g. kitchen store or contractor) we had consulted before had spent the time with us to make us feel confident about their vision and ability to create a space we would love.
Thom was an absolute joy to work with. He has a great sense of style and is very creative, but he doesn't have any attitude or pretensions. He is truly collaborative and never lost sight of our tastes, our goal or our budget. During the design phase, he was supportive, extremely patient, and seemingly always available. With some of the larger purchases, like cabinets and counter tops, my husband and I had a very hard time making decisions. We started with one idea and then changed our minds, several times. Thom never complained or made us feel rushed. Just the opposite, he reassured us that this was a normal part of the process and kept offering suggestions to help us make a decision. A number of times Thom even cleared his schedule to go shopping with us to help mediate our decision process- I think he may have saved our marriage a couple of times too!! During the construction process, Thom was equally as attentive. He was on site most days, checked in with us regularly, and did an excellent job of handling things when unexpected construction issues arose and required on-the-spot decisions. Overall he kept us sane during the whole process.
On top of everything else, we found Thom to be a genuinely good person who is truly passionate about making his clients happy through his designs. Thom approached our remodel with as much energy, passion, and dedication as if it were his own home, and throughout our project we felt like he was as excited about it as we were. We can honestly say that he made our remodel the success that it is. He took our small, incoherent vision and transformed it into an absolutely beautiful space by incorporating a number of brilliant ideas that we never envisioned, but now can't imagine not having done. We love our new space and are very happy and proud to hear all our friends tell us how fabulous it is and how much they want to copy it. We will definitely call on Thom again when we embark on our next remodel project. -

Based on other positive Yelp reviews, I contacted JNR Design Solutions for a small home office project. We have been badly burned by crappy contractors in the past and were extremely wary of going through the process again.
Right from the initial contact I was impressed with the owner's interest in our project and genuine desire to help us get it done in a way that matched our budget and needs. He gave us a lot of ideas that we hadn't originally considered and even offered some ideas for other home projects. We felt very comfortable contracting him for our project.
During the project a few minor issues came up, but they were easily and rapidly handled after a brief e-mail exchange. He visited the project every day, sometimes several times a day, and kept us advised of the progress, which was great.
We are very pleased with the results of our project and I would not hesitate to recommend JNR Design Solutions. -

After posting a request for recommendations on a neighborhood Yahoo Group, Thomas Scheid of JNR Design Solutions, a resident of the Rose Garden, contacted me I've contracted his company for a small bathroom remodel and some work in the laundry area. The majority of the work is now done and I am extremely pleased with the results.
The difference with Thom's approach to that of the regular contractor
is that he is fully engaged from design to completion. He has a knack
for design, color coordination and has innovate ideas. He designed the
space with CAD software so I could get a feel for it before the actual
work began.
He coordinated the work on-site and was always available
to answer any questions. He has an extensive network of specialists
that he engages in his projects. The beauty is that he does all the
coordination, so the normal headaches that come with this are his, not
the homeowners.
I highly recommend Thom and his team for your remodeling needs - big
or small. -

My wife and I found JNR designs during a web search for kitchen designers. We had spoken to a couple other design shops and had gotten very discouraged at the outrageous quotes. We had just about given up hope on finding someone to work with when we met Thom (owner of JNR).
From our first interaction, Thom proved to be EXACTLY what we were looking for. He took the time to understand what our budget was and what our ideas were for the remodel. Thom put together a great design and costed everything out up front so we knew exactly what we'd be getting into.
As our project progressed, Thom made the whole process as painless as possible. He managed every detail with great professionalism and efficiency. Not only did he manage to complete an entire kitchen remodel in just 5 weeks (!!), but made it as pain free as possible for us, which was great since both my wife and I work full time and didn't have the flexibility to spend parts of our day attending to details on the project.
I would highly recommend working with Thom. We went into this project expecting it to be painful, just based on hearing stories from friends who had remodeled parts of their home. Seems everyone has had the experience of a project taking 2x the quoted time, or costing 2x the amount. With Thom, you'll get a great project completed on time and on cost. We'll definitely be going back to Thom for our next home project! -

There are a couple of reasons why I highly recommend JNR. The first is that I've referred clients to them for remodels with fantastic results and very happy reviews. The second is that the very idea of a company that bridges construction and design is brilliant, since the homeowner doesn't have to worry about trying to figure out how they want a project to look while contractors are standing by waiting, and the contractors don't have to try and pick out colors and finishes for a client when that's not what they specialize in. JNR has given value to their clients by offering high-end design recommendations with quality workmanship for competitive rates.

My wife and I were researching help for a bathroom remodel, and we found Thom and JNR Design Solutions via Yelp. The consistent high ratings compelled us to give him a call, and we were impressed from his first visit to the house. He inspired confidence compared to others that we had in to give us quotes. The end-to-end ownership and accountability that Thom provides, not only in the design but in the contractor management and planning from start to finish, was great. I appreciated the planning and options he provided along the way, asking us questions to make sure we loved the end result. When we had questions, Thom provided very detailed answers and considerations for us. The team of contractors he sourced were great, and each and every one took pride in their work. We are so happy with our remodeled bathroom, and appreciate Thom's management of the entire process.

This firm worked within my budget (in fact came in under budget), was responsive, responsible, creative...and simply delivered fabulous results. I couldn't be more pleased with the professionalism and high quality work which JNR produced for my home remodel. They assisted me with colors, fabrics, finishes, textures, materials, furniture, room configurations, and more. The project manager kept things moving and makes the most efficient use of my time. He didn't bother me with endless details about behind the scenes activities and respected my time. This type of project coordination minimizes "drama" and I am most grateful. I would highly recommend JNR Design Solutions!
