I recently bought 2 pairs of jeans here and I absolutely love them. It was refreshing to walk into a store that didn't have the same 2 styles of jeans that every other store is carrying.
The owner had a nice selection of varying styles of citizen among other great brands. I settled on the citizen jeans for my purchase:)
They have original dresses and tops that you just don't find at the mall. And the owner and staff are always very helpful and give their honest opinion.

I used to work in Burlingame and would stop here frequently during lunch. I live in Sacramento now, but am still on their email list and get updates on the store's events and sales. In the market for a pair of jeans, I decided to make a detour on my way down to San Jose yesterday just to check out the huge sale going on at Lulu's.

As I walked in the store, it was apparent that even with the change in ownership, the boutique atmosphere was still there, but where was the selection of cute clothes? After perusing the inventory twice, I asked the owner about their jeans and she said that unlike the old owner who kept a huge inventory of denim, she only has 2-3 styles a month. Bummer! I really liked the selection of jeans that Lulu's used to carry and wasn't feeling the style of clothes in the shop.

1 star for the atmosphere and 1 star for the staff's friendliness. -1 star for the non-existent selection of jeans. -1 star for the style of clothes in the shop. -1 stars for how pricey this place has become. While I'm won't be making a special trip (and paying toll) to come here again, I will stop in whenever I happen to be in Downtown San Mateo.

I was totally shocked when I found this little boutique right across the street from Trag's...and now I'm OBSESSED! The salesgirls knew how everything fit and helped me put together different outfits. I've gone back several times and always leave with something adorable. I've introduced the boutique to my boyfriend and mom and they love it too. Great one-stop-shop for yourself or gifts. Its truly rare to find such a pleasent shopping experience, so I had to share my experience.

I bought some pieces of lingerie here and the staff is super helpful and knowledgeable. However, the selection variety was a bit disappointing. They do carry name brands and quality-wear.
The decor is small and quaint. Will definitely shop there again!

I accidentally walked into this store for the second time just a couple of weeks ago.  Damn those sidewalk garment racks! They always urge me to spend money I shouldn't.  I left with a pair of reasonably priced jeans (unlike Lucy K, despite the good fit, I need to get mine shortened).  I love the color and the fit is good in the waist, butt, and thighs.

Since my last visit to Lulu many months back, there has been a change of ownership.  The current owner Jamie, is very nice, helpful, and fun to chat with.  Lulu has a nice variety of merchandise, including some vintage purses I thought were appealing.  Since the change of ownership, a men's department has been added, including a TV room so that the boys can wait while you shop.  I recommend getting on the e-mail list, so you can get notified about sales and events.

I grew up in San Mateo and never had a reason to shop there.  Until now, after I've moved to the City.  My folks still live in the area so whenever I go visit them I always make a point to stop by to check out the expertly edited merchandise at Lulu.  They may not have what "everyone" is wearing but they have what "everyone" should be wearing.

Jamie, the owner, used to manage the Co-op at Barneys in Beverly Hills so she has incredible taste for pretty, stylish, flattering clothes.  Also, like me, she's a vintage jewelry freak.  I've bought many pieces and get compliments everytime I wear them.  Did I mention that the necklaces I bought cost only $35 and look much pricier!

Her taste is definitely fashion forward but still wearable.  A bonus is that she's empathetic with the busty gal.  As a girl with some girls, it is very difficult to find things that aren't too grandmama and working girl that actually fit  Trust me, no one wants to look matronly or like they work on a pole.  Jamie stocks things that work for my body issue.  I know this may not seem like such a problem but trust me that the grass is always greener...

Jamie is such a sweetheart.  She is genuinely interested in you loving and wearing what you bought.  She also has the most incredible memory.  Girl should have gone to medical school!

I stopped by here while visiting a client to get something for the girlfriend.

I couldn't really find anything in her taste.

Pretty pricey but for the money there are a number of other botiques out there.

It's the only specialty boutique in San Mateo for the hip twentysomething crowd. I love that they carry the SOFTEST tops from alternative apparel - "vintage soft".

They have premium denim (a lot of Citizens and Red Engine), cozy winter wraps, and a GREAT local designer jewelry selection. Love it!

Very cute boutique. I love coming here but only when I can afford it. She carries lots of designers from citizens to free people. Wonderful  selection and great accesories.

I love Lulu's!  Super cute clothes and super nice sales staff/owner.  I'd like to take one star off since it's a bit on the pricey side - but they always have nice stuff on sale and they're so helpful that I just couldn't!  What can I say?  I'm a sucker for great customer service!

I really enjoyed this boutique.  Items are definitely carefully laid out.  I enjoyed the freedom to roam.  I checked out the entire store and left with a pair of jeans (on sale) that I absolutely love.  It's nice knowing your items won't possibly be on every other girl on the street...

Not a great selection of clothing, but I'm giving it +1 stars because of the men's lounge upstairs. There a painting of Biggie, a place to shoot hoops, a television. Man! I want that in my house. They're apparently still working on it, so hopefully it becomes an amazing hub of great fashion which is affordable.

I work near this boutique and it is one of my favorite places. I loved the casual selection of the previous owner, but now that Jaime has taken over it's even better. The price point may be higher on some items, but it's so much more grown-up. Here is someone who truly shares my passion for fashion!  There are also lots of cute T's and sweat shirts as well as the sale rack for when you're just looking for a cheap fix. And Jaime is so sweet. She has placed special orders for me, and directed me to some other great places to shop in the area. I tell everyone I know to shop here just because the service is so great!

The best boutique clothing store in San Mateo.  Okay, I admit, it is easy to be "the best" when you are literally "the only."   That being said, Lulu truly does carry a nice selection of clothing.  For denim, the store carries Kasil and Red Engine, which are both a refreshing change from the ubiquitous powerhouse denim lines of Seven and Citizens for Humanity.  Girls who have struggled to find jeans that simultaneously fit your waist, ass and thighs will love Kasil's latest release in stretch.  The denim weight is substantial and does an excellent job at, oh, shall we say, streamlining.  The store also just started carrying Ella Moss and cute Karanina dresses.  And there is a small rack in the back with stuff for your beau.  The owner was working the day I popped in and she was quite charming and receptive to suggestions.  I mentioned that I love Rachel Pally and she actually wrote it down to check out on her next buying trip.  If you are passing through San Matty, give this little gem a chance.  You might be surprised by what you find...

High Quality, stylish street fashion boutique. Staff members are very friendly, I got a jacket I love. Their men's selection is a tad small, but they're working on it.
