Review from Sarah S.
I really enjoy this place! It's close to the Lodge of Four Seasons, big enough for a group, god service and good food. They also do take out, which I've taken advantage of when I've been alone or too tired and just want to eat in my room.
This place is not for peanut allergy sufferers! They give you nuts and you can throw the shells all over the floor. Yet, it works. Doesn't seem dirty, just is part of the charm.
I like their pizza and Italian stuff - much better than other places I've been to around here. The salads also are good. Whenever I'm here for a conference, a group of people I am with likes to go because we remember the food and service to be good. I recommend it! -

JJ Twigs. This place wants to you think Old West Saloon. And sports bar. And Pizzeria.
Identity crisis for sure.
Not unlike the lake itself, but that's for another post.
I ordered a plate of nachos. You'll notice that chicken is the description but, as it turned out, black beans were more the reality. I like black beans, but I'm paying for chicken. Right? Who knows anymore. A sorry plate of nachos can be disorientating.
It was like going to a concert to find out that the headlining act is the opener and vice versa.
Boulevard Pale Ale on tap, which helped. Service was casual.
Oh you can eat peanuts and litter the shells on the ground. Each night must be an existential crisis for the bus and wait staff who sweep the shuckings into hefty cinch sacks. -

Not really impressed with JJ Twiggs...Service was nice but it took forever to get our food. It wasn't even busy.
Also, I really don't like hunting, stuffed animal heads, country music, ya know - that whole scene...
The food was okay. We ordered a hamburger and buffalo chicken tenders. Nothing special really.
I must say our server was really nice and polite. But this place made us tired which wasn't good before our 3 hour drive home. -

I called ahead with a large party of 24 and they said that they would try to secure the seating for us, that there might be a minimal wait, but they'd get us in as quickly as possible. When we showed up to the restaurant, the hostess VERY RUDELY informed me that there'd be a 1 hour wait. When I stated that we really couldn't wait an hour because we had some little ones, she replied, "Great, have a nice night." in the MOST snide tone you could possibly imagine! No, "sorry we got really busy" no apology or explanation. Just basically a "get out of our restaurant." What a great face for the company!

The second time I went back was a Friday evening, and they were fairly busy. There was a storm with some power outages of a minute or so. I can't remember what I ordered that night, but we won't be going back. The food was mediocre, at best, the service was hit or miss, and there were only three of us that time. Maybe they do a better job when they're not busy...

On my friends and I recent excursion to the Lake of the Ozarks we decided to stop off at JJ Twiggs for their famous double decker pizza and casual atmosphere.
Warning, this is a place you don't want to go to if you have a peanut allergy. As an appetizer they serve peanuts by the barrel and customers are encouraged to toss the shells on the floor. It's actually kind of fun but peanuts just weren't cutting it for us so we also got an order of their garlic parmesan onion rings and oh my gosh they were amazing.
I just read in the Riverfront Times that one is opening up in St. Louis. I think I will have to stop by. -

9 of us went on a not-so-busy early on a Friday night in July. We were seated within about 5 minutes, server quickly took our drink orders. That's where the service just about ended. He took another 25 minutes to take our food order, and our entrees were not served for 75 minutes. I thought it could be attributed to our large group size but the 3 other tables next to us were just as large, they all were served before us even though 2 of the tables were seated after us. Server never apologized, never said a word.
And I've never done this before, but we had to DEDUCT money from the bill since the 18% was already added in.
Oh, by the way the food was so-so, leaning on the bad side. -

I am not from this area, but spend time here every now and then at a friends house on the lake. We went here for the 4th of July this year, and on the way out of town, we were driving down the dam road to check out the strip and find a place to eat.
We weren't really looking for anything in particular, but when we saw the pizza sign for JJ Twiggs, we instantly agreed on pizza.
There are peanuts at quite a few places these days. I have to say, thought, these were the best peanuts I have had served this style. They were fresh and salty, where at places like Texas or Logans Roadhouse, they are stale and bland.
The place was full of fellow 4th of July celebrators; we were only a party of 2, so we were seated quickly after waiting for the hostess for a couple minutes. It was kind of odd to wait that long to see an employee, but it wasn't all that bad if you are patient.
Our server must've been one of the owners, she commented on my Cubs hat and said 'they' were from the Chicago area. Her service was much more casual than a normal server, and she did a nice job.
We had the house special, the double-decker thin crust pizza with sausage, green pepper & onion (we held the mushrooms).
Low expectations might've really helped us here. We went in not knowing what we were going to get, and thought it was a stellar pie. I would get it again in a heartbeat.
There is now one in the St. Louis area that recently received a well-deserved #3 rating in Sauce magazine for thin crust pizza. I think this place blows Pi out of the water. -

We love Twigs. It's always our first stop at The Lake. Great pizza!

Great rustic atmosphere. Peanuts on all of the tables and shells on the floors. Bagnell Chicken Salad was great! Location was actually. Near Hwy 54 and State Hwy HH.

Food was too salty from pizza to lasagna to clam chowder. I drank 4 glasses of water!
