Hipster central. Just not my crowd. But that's ok, this is simply where the cool kids hang out. "Culture" aside, nothing recognizable as food on the menu. And hanging out here was like sitting in a hot barn at a picnic table. It was just barely shelter from rain.
I only patronized this place a couple times before it closed but I liked the idea of having a real coffeeshop around.
Not some hipster haven.
Or some restaurant that markets itself as a coffeeshop.
But a place to read or talk with friends. Nice n easy.
Jinx is a great place to meet up friends. Indoor smoking and Intelligensia Coffee (I could have spelled that wrong, sorry).

This is one of the few places in the city where they distribute copies of Vice Magazine. I'm not a coffee person, but I like this place.

Jinx is a good luck charm on Division. Great coffee and a nice variety of snacks, pastries, smoothies, and non-coffee beverages in a laid-back punkrock atmosphere with indoor smoking and a clean (customer only) bathroom. I've had nothing but great coffee and service out of this place. It's totally one of the better cafes in Wicker Park, which is saying something 'cause there's coffee everywhere. Jinx serves a special Intelligensia blend made just for them-- the best I've had in Chicago!
Neat music. Cool pictures and other things on the walls and tables. I had a shake that was not very good at all, and I just plain was not impressed with it(it's not often shakes aren't tasty anywhere either). There's pretty cool music played inside. I had a really tasty sandwich that sort of blew me away a bit.. a "Healthy McHappy". It really did seem healthy and it did make me McHappy, so the name is fitting. I was not at all happy with the service though. I found the waitress to be extremely rude, and not in the least bit concerned about keeping customers satisfied.I enjoyed the place overall because of the scenery and atmosphere, but hopefully you'll be lucky enough to have a different waitress or catch the one I had in a better mood. The Peanut Butter shake is a let down.
Coffee here is great, and the staff are always very friendly and interesting folks. Nice place to sit with a friend, but they sometimes blast the music to the point of insanity. Small menu for the desperate diners, but mostly it's just a very laid-back, cozy shack for caffeination.
This used to be my favorite place for coffee on Division, before Division was so hip. I still love it once in a while, but I haven't been going there as often as I used to (I stopped drinking coffee...gasp). If I was still drinking coffee, maybe I'd be there more often. The coffee here is probably the best in the area and pretty cheap. The people here are nice and unpretentious. The service is great. The bathroom is questionable.
Jinx is now closed. :(
Jinx is a great cafe, spacious, comfortable. It used to have a fun motorcycle racing theme, which was a hobby of the previous owner. Just after it was sold, however, I didn't like the vibe, and there were lots of creepy folk hanging out. I haven't been here often since, but I'm sure it's bounced back, judging from the crowds.
i liked this place. even though i didn't go there often it has a special place in my heart for their affiliation with underdog zine. i met my boyfriend of 8 years through that zine. awwwwww.
