This place is incredible. If this place was in CT, I swear I would eat here all the time.

We walked in to a cafeteria-like setup--grab a tray, place your order, wait for it to be done then slide down to the register. The menu is amazing--ridiculous, actually. So many sandwich and wrap choices, all creative and even breakfast and dinner options! I really didn't even know where to start but then I saw the "Cuban wrap"--not exactly authentic but so good--turkey, ham, cheese, pickles, lettuce and a spicy mayo, grilled in a wrap and served with a pickle spear--so good, the mayo totally made this wrap! Kirstin had the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich, which came with a pickle spear and french fries--the sandwich was so big--it had 3 pieces of chicken on it, you couldn't even fit this in your mouth without getting it all over your face!

I really cannot express how awesome this place is--the staff is super friendly and efficient, which is amazing considering how many menu choices there are and how fast they get the orders out to you. The food is tasty and plentiful and all for a good price--this is everything you want in a local joint, and more. It was no wonder that shortly after we arrived, the line was practically out the door. Jim's--can you please open a location in CT??

One of the better places that I've found for lunches in the Brighton-Allston
area. Jim's has a great menu to choose from and a wide variety of selections
ranging from wraps to things like lasagna and the prices and service are
    as great as the food.
I've never been here for breakfast, but some friends have and highly
recommend that I try it, so at some point I will.

I would say this is the BEST restaurant in Boston. breakfast can be a tad over priced but on the other-hand you can get a huge delicious dinner for 2 for around $10.

you can truly eat here every day and not get bored of the breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.

the service is great too. from the cooks to the lady who might as well be your grandmother at the register, to them clearing the tables for you...it's just a pleasure.

this review has made me so hungry I am going to Jim's!

I've been eating here for 20 years. Mike, Nick, Jim, Vaso ( spelling?), Omar, Cecil, whatshisname, and the crew are the most friendly, accomodating restaurant guys I've ever met. You go a few times and they'll remember your name, over feed you, and be polite to you. Great food, great people, and a little personality as well. Big lines, because it's so good, but it moves quick. They crank it out fast.
You need to be ready for lines like these...
"take your time... we close at nine!" -Nick
"you find any chicken in that chicken soup, you call me!!" -Mike
"what's free today??? ....   advice!"- Jim
"how's the family, good?" - Vaso
Just a great place to eat a lot of good food made by people who like what they're doing. Any rating less than 4 stars means the poster was a nut case. Come and try it. You'll enjoy your meal.

I was trying to find a place to eat close to Brighton and me and my friend ended up at Jim's Deli. Well food is delicious, however the combo selection was weird. I wanted lasagna with french fries and they said you can get a side and the side selection was basically mashed potatoes, rice or corn. I mean i already got lasagna which is made out of pasta so getting rice as a side with lasagna is weird, well corn is not my favorite and I have fries so mashed potatoes is not a good selection either. I wish they had some sort of Cesar salad rather than those 3 selections. My friend got one of the burgers and she could not bite it because the length of the burger was bigger than her mouth :p So she basically cut the burger into pieces and eat it like that.
Overall, the food is definitely yummy but they need to have more sides for their combo !

    Jim's. Is. Awesome.

Hands down, the best breakfast place I've ever been too. Their menu is incredibly large, yet everyone who works here, knows it like the back of their hand. Their Irish Breakfast roll for $10:95 is the best in Boston. The lunch and dinner menu items are fantastic. Everytime I got here, I am still amazed at the amount of items on their menu. With so many items, you would expect things to suffer a bit, but this is not the case. Jim's may be, the best deli I've ever been too.

Oh, Jim's..whats not to love?!  The sandwiches & wraps are fresh and made to order.  The breakfast food is appropriately greasy and perfect for a hangover.  The entree items are amazing and make you feel like you are eating a home cooked meal.  The service is always wonderful with the guys behind the counter helping you decide what you want and offering suggestions.  The prices are totally reasonable especially for the tremendous portion sizes.  Jim's is a Brighton must-visit!

Wow! Went to Jim's not expecting much but this place is great. I have been multiple times and have great food each time. All of the subs/wraps are very big and inexpensive. Love that some even come with French fries or onion rings on them.

This place also has a great breakfast menu as well. Only downside is on the weekends don't expect to get a seat. Great eggs Benny!

Best lunch in Brighton. You walk in and are immediately greeted by a bunch of friendly guys waiting to take your oder, they offer great recommendations (but please note, they recommendEVERYTHING on the menu!) but after a few jokes can easily point you in the right direction.

My first trip here was for the wraps and we were so pleased with out decisions. I got the Fusion (5 stars) and my sister got the Fajita (4 stars, not spicy enough). Can't wait to go back and try other things.

Two huge wraps and 2 Diet cokes for an even $20? Steal.

There's two simple words to describe this place...FIVE STARS!!!  Right when we walked in the door we were greeted by some friendly dudes behind the counter and our order was taken promptly.  This place is very busy but the pros at the grill kept the line moving and the wait time was minimal.  Another plus is that the prices on the menu are modest and the servings are huge.

I had the hot pastrami sandwich and may have been one of the best deli sandwiches I've ever had.  Friendliness and a welcome atmosphere is what really sets Jim's apart from other fast-paced deli joints around the city.  I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to this place and will be sure to tell friends and family.

I don't know who Jim is, but he's a genius. I still don't understand how the line can wrap around the space yet still have open tables circulating.

The food is consistently good, whatever you get. The turkey is super moist and juicy, and it doesn't hurt that they stack that shit on. The omelets don't skimp on neither the cheese or veggies (they're actually fresh!).

The menu is pretty huge, so don't get intimidated and follow your stomach.

    This place is borderline flawless.

I have been there numerous times and never had a bad meal. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have very friendly workers and I have met both of the owners and they have offered to give me free samples and to try different things on their menu.

If you are looking for a great meal from $8-12 this is the place you want to go.

The only negative I can think of is the fact that the menu is too large. If you don't know what you want going in there it could be a tough debate. I would recommend the bricuit, chicken sandwich, the buffalo chicken salad & the steak ands eggs.

But pray tell, why would anyone want cafeteria style?
My time is too valuable and at these prices, I deserve to be waited on.
Perhaps it is because their customer base is BC students ( and they have yet to learn how to eat off anything but a tray)

Unbelievable. The food at this place continues to amaze me every time I come here. If you are really hungry and only willing to spend less than $12 for a meal, this place will also have your answer. I always get my stomach full here and the food has been really tasty so far.

They do a great job in making hamburgers. I went here recently to get some hamburgers for lunch and all of them have been tasty. One hamburger I really like is the Mushroom and Swiss. This is a Hamburger with Swiss cheese and grilled mushrooms. Along with it, they also put lettuce and tomato. The hamburger meat was juicy, meaty, tender, and flavorful. The bun had the right texture and soft chewiness. Another great choice is the Texas Burger. Instead of using a typical hamburger bun, they actually use a pair of thick slices of bread that is toasted. It also comes with barbecue ranch dressing, bacon, jalapeno poppers (hollowed out peppers stuffed with cheese and fried) and cheddar cheese. The juicy and meaty flavor of the hamburger, combined with the sticky cheese, the crispy toast, the succulent flavor of the barbecue ranch dressing, the cool lettuce, the juicy tomato, and the crispy bacon and jalapeno made it one of the most delicious hamburgers I have eaten. Hamburger dishes are definitely under $9, which are actually cheaper and have a better quality than some famous fast food places such as Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

The sandwiches are amazingly good. Their New York style reuben is really tasty. I liked the toasty bread, the dressing, the slightly sour sauerkraut, and the meaty flavor of the pastrami. The rye bread had a nice crispiness despite the grease. Another great sandwich I had was the Austin. This is a roast beef sandwich with Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, jalapeno poppers, and barbecue ranch dressing on a roll of bread. The bread was great, it was not dry or stale, it was soft and chewy, making it an almost perfect sandwich bread. The roast beef was warm and flavorful. Combined with the melted Swiss cheese, the succulent barbecue ranch sauce, the fresh and cool lettuce and tomato, the warm onions, and the jalapeno pepper, and it was probably one of the best hot roast beef sandwiches I have eaten.

Their chicken sandwiches are probably some of the best chicken sandwiches I have eaten in Boston so far. I had a Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich. This comes with ham, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and ranch dressing. The ranch dressing, along with the Swiss cheese, gave the crisp and tender chicken a tasty flavor. Another great choice for a chicken sandwich is a Chicken Deluxe. This comes with bacon, lettuce, tomato, American cheese, and mayonnaise. The flavor of the mayonnaise, combined with the crisp bacon, the sticky American cheese, the cool lettuce and tomato, along with the warm and tender chicken, and the chewy bread, made this a very tasty and deliciously great chicken sandwich. They are a little expensive at about $10, but it is worth spending, and one chicken sandwich can fill up your stomach fairly fast.

The dinners are also pretty good as well. I got the Beef Brisket dinner a couple of times. The slight tenderness of the beef, combined with the slightly thick sauce is pretty tasty. The macaroni and cheese is a great choice for your side dish. The texture of the cheese combined with the soft pasta made it one of the tastiest macaroni and cheese dishes I have eaten. Vegetables are freshly cooked and a great way to balance out the the meat.

Every time I finish one big dish from this place, I get really full. One major disadvantage is that this place gets really crowded on Saturday mornings, and it's understandable: there's a lot of people craving for a good old traditional American breakfast or lunch. I always see the same two men that make the sandwiches, hamburgers or meat dinners, so it seems that the staff is committed to making the food at this place good.

Overall, the tasty food at this place still continues to represent what a diner in the USA (and maybe Canada, but their food is usually good in general) should be. I think, if "America" was at least decent, every mediocre diner or diners with below average marks in this country should be replaced with a diner with the exact same tasty quality as this diner. The more I talk about this place, the more likely I am going to leave my computer and actually run down there and eat there. Furthermore, this is also not the type of place I would eat every day, unless I have a good and intense exercise routine beforehand that might involve running, cycling and/or swimming.

When I lived in Brighton in 1999, I immediately fell in love with Jim's deli. This isn't just the best deli in Brighton, it's the best deli anywhere ..... hands down.  I've since moved to Austin, Tx, but today, I'm sitting in Jim's deli enjoying every bite and soaking in the atmosphere. This is a place that serves up the best comfort food and has fantastic service no matter how busy it gets.

Jim and Nick dish it out with their customers and the customers keep coming back for more greatness!

This is the best lunch that you can possibly get anywhere in the Brighton, Newton, possibly even Boston area if you're looking for something to quench the lunch demon inside of you.  Let me paint the scene:

Walk in the front door, and you'll probably see Jim himself behind the counter with a few others making amazing food.  Not only does he greet everyone with a happy hello, but he knows most people by name!

Everyone is overly friendly, and you feel like you just found your second family, one that happens to make better food than your first for a very reasonable price.

Think Boar's Head is the prime coldcut?  Think Again!  Jim's uses thick slices of roasted turkey (READ: NOT prepackaged storebought junk) and lays it on thick.  Order something with steak?  They pull a few healthy size steaks out of what appears to be a unicorn blood marinade (or something delicious) and throw them on the grill.  They cook them, slice them, and make you something amazing in under 5 minutes.

They also feature a long list of specials (about 8' of counter space dedicated to them) daily, and they change all the time.  The biggest struggle at Jim's is figuring out what to order, because you know it will be great.  They're highly efficient, and I almost dropped my wrap plate the other day because I was surprised by how heavy the wrap was!

All in all, it's a phenomenal place to check out.  Even the burgers are great, but my all time favorites are the wraps and sandwiches.  6/5 stars.  I haven't tried breakfast, but I wouldn't necessarily think to go to a "deli" (more of a diner almost) for breakfast.  (And those of us in the working world don't have as much time on our hands for breakfast)

What an awesome place!  It's great for breakfast but it's good to show up early as it gets really really crowded once everyone starts emerging from their hangovers.

This is a sorta quick service cafeteria style place but everything is made fresh to order as you walk down the line.  I was hungry so I went for the irish breakfast sub which is laughably huge and heavy, and certainly removed a month from my life span, but man was it delicious.  I can't remember everything it had on it there was just an entire traditional irish breakfast on a toasted sub roll.  Lots of grease, sausages, I think potatoes of some sort, and eggs.

A slight intangible but I loved the owner.  Very talkative and friendly but kept the line moving.  If I lived anywhere near here, I'd easily come here once a week.  If I were skinnier and less worried about heart attacks, I'd be here every other day.

Cashier Lady: But how many slices did you give him?  I need to know!
Cook: Just ring him up for one order!
Cashier Lady: Okay, okay... I just need to know how many slices.  Your total will be...

    ---

You'll be hard-pressed to find a more affordable and satisfying breakfast this side of Brookline.  Plus, Jim's has all the old-school charm of a New York diner, enormous griddle and all.  The welcoming and affable cooks flip flawless over-easy eggs.  The booth seats are well-armed with ketchup, salt and pepper shakers, and even the unexpected malt vinegar bottle.

Eggs on hash is perhaps the most ridiculously decadent way to start a morning, but it's executed so exquisitely well here.  The sides of home fries and buttered toast seem almost unnecessary.  While I do wish that the home fries were slightly crispier and kicked up with some zesty spices, a little ketchup goes a long way here.

Adorable beyond words.  Kind of like the special someone that brought me here.

It's pretty obvious from all the reviews here that Jim's is the kind of place that creates a lot of affectionate loyalty in those who go there regularly.  And with good reason.  While it looks kind of like a classic greasy-spoon cafeteria, the food is very good and the staff are all terrific!

Some highlights: The Bacon Cheeseburger is one of the best in the city!  They start it out over open flame, so it has that beautiful flame-grilled flavor, then they move it over to the grill to melt the cheese.  And it's two slices of cheese so you can still taste it.  The bacon is always nicely cooked and slightly crispy, just the way I like it.  And the fries they serve with it are quite good: also just the right level of crispy and hot out of the basket right when you order them.

The tuna melt is another winner.  My girlfriend swears it's the best in the world (I'd rate it a close second).  They'll actually grill the tuna on it's own so it gets closer to the temperature of the cheese, which makes for a nicer, gooey-er experience.  I mentioned loyalty for this place...she never asks me if I want to go out for a tuna melt.  Instead, she asks if I'll drive her to Jim's for a tuna melt.  I don't really think she eats them anywhere else!

The day-after turkey and stuffing wrap is good, the omelets are pretty good (although the home fries are just okay).  Saturday/Sunday mornings the place is packed with BC students, but the rest of the time the crowd is manageable.  All told, this is just a great local deli, and a good experience if you're looking for something low key.

Went over here on a Saturday morning. I was visiting someone at St. Elizabeths and wanted breakfast but didnt want Dunkins or anything like that. A nurse recommended we try here, so we did!

She prepared me by telling me the set up, and I'm fine with that, it was cute.
Although, I feel that the prices were kind of high considering that set up. I paid a little more than I do for another sit down diner I frequent.

The food was okay, nothing to go crazy about. I got the french toast, 3 huge pieces, but I do like my french toast cooked a bit longer than that.

Overall not that good, if the prices were lower and the food a smudge better this place would be a great spot!

Great food! Great Service! Friendly employees! And a spic and span bathroom! Need I say more? If youre undecided at the array of menu choices just get the Brookline sandwich, or the roast beef, or the fried chicken, or the beef brisket....... :)) To the other review about it feeling like cafeteria style, back off. You see it when you walk in, you can walk out instead of giving it 2 stars, and the prices are reasonable, princess :P

First of all, I love this place.
    98% consistently great.

I regularly get sandwiches here. I really appreciate that you can order your food the way you like it, & know you will receive it as ordered.
Admittedly, I am a pain in the a-- food orderer. :)
Well-done, American cheese, only a little mayo, cooked onions, only raw peppers etc. Yeah, annoying. But Jim's always takes these request with a smile, and yes, frequently a chuckle.

So today I had breakfast there for the first time. Great Western Om.
Rye toast etc. Homefries weren't great, but I'm too picky, and could've had something else.

I usually get my stuff to go, but since I was up astonishingly early, went in and sat down.

In addition to the great food, great people watching.

A very good breakfast spot in Brighton.

I don't know what to say aside from this place is so good.  SO.GOOD.
I love tuna and this place has the best tuna melt I have ever had.  Hands down.
Also - the staff is amazing and always super friendly despite the chaos that goes on in there (most of the times very busy)....but don't let that discourage you, they move the line along very quickly!
If I could give them more stars I would.

Scrolling through here almost every review is 4 or 5 stars so there isn't much left for me to say. BUT.....

I love this place. I almost always get breakfast but that's because I'm a breakfast addict - lunch items are delicious too.

I like the hustle and bustle here. I like the anxiety and excitement of watching them prepare your food, SURE they will somehow screw it up, worrying about getting a table, balancing trays and drinks... and then alas the food comes out perfectly every time, you make it to a cleared and clean table (drinks and all), you sit, and that first bite. Ahhhhhh. Mmmmm Mmmmm Good.

this is my #1 favorite lunch spot.  jim, nick and all the other guys are so nice, and jim's mom is an absolute doll who makes the best dinners.

jim once went outside and talked a cop out of writing me a ticket and the cop tore it up!  i've never seen that before, jim is kind of my hero.

i recommend asking jim to make you a bacon cheeseburger topped with a fried egg, can't be beat!

Jim's does alot that I love when restaurants do.

    I love seeing
    1) owners making the food
    2) owners talking with their customers, more than just a "hi how are you"
    3) owners aware of their yelp ratings

When I got there, this place did all that.  I saw Jim working the register, taking orders and cooking the food, and mingling and chatting with guests.  The cooks here are also extremely friendly as they have no problem dealing with dumb customers like me.  It is also encouraging to see Jim's Regulars walk in and the cooks calling out their names, asking how their day was.

This place is set up in a cafeteria style, where you pick up a tray, walk over, place your orders, watch them make your food, move down and then you pay.

    Oh right about the food,

The food here is phenomenal.  Tad bit overpriced, but $7.00 for a Bacon Cheddar cheeseburger with fries is alright to me.

To be really picky,  burger was kinda cooked too long, still good, but I like my burgers juicy and bloody.

Clearer directions with what to do with plates when you are done would be nice.

Bathroom really suprised me because I have seen nicer establishments with worse bathrooms.  From the outside, you want to brace yourself for the horror you are about to see, but once you step in, it is..quite nice.  One toilet fyi.

Regardless of all this pickiness, Jim's is an awesome place to go.  Only bad thing is that it is way too far from my school so I would have to plan a day according to go to Jim's.  And I probably will since this place is completely worth it.

    Long live Jim!

I adore Jim's. And Jim himself. He's often the first man behind the line waiting to take your order with a warm smile. The food is so cozy and warm, like home. Only down side is you cant be a frequent flier if you value your figure. I recommend knowing what you want when you get there (its a little hectic in there sometimes I like to be prepared) and wearing stretch pants to allow complete glutony. NOMS.
