The first time I walked into Jimmy's Deli I thought it was so cool to have a neighborhood store to get your milk and eggs and when you're hungry stop by and order a sandwich. My husband and I had been craving good sandwiches so I had the Italian Beef he had a Combo. The owners are from N.Y and when I mentioned Giardiniera they said "You must be from Chicago". So I thought I had found the answer to my prayers, WRONG! My Italian beef was not so bad, but the Combo ugh! I didn't see them make it but from the look and taste I think they boil the sausage (what!!) and then they slice it (what!). Nope never again will I order a sandwich. The store is kind of cool, if you need some cold cuts or cheese, wine, jarred Vienna Beef giardiniera or just something to drink stop by. I like the feel of a good corner neighborhood store, because of this they get an extra star to bump up to 3.

I'm such the killjoy these days. I ordered the Italian Stallion, picked up three dolmas, aged cheddar and jalapeno chips, and an adult grape soda. Total still less than $10. I'm thinking I'm about to have the greatest meal evah!
The bread on the sandwich was a total disappointment. It was like eating an over-sized Mrs. Bairds hot dog bun. Yes the meat was good and authentic, the Italian dressing was nice...but all that was lost in the gooey white ick of the bread. And there wasn't enough dressing for the amount of lettuce involved. I tore half the bread off and pulled some of the lettuce out...but sadly there was no saving the meal. The dolmas were okay. I really wanted to LOVE my sandwich, but I didn't.
As for the store itself...it was super. I could have stood around in there for an hour just looking at goodies. I will go back. I will probably try the Cuban with extra sauce, maybe on wheat this time. We shall see if the rating improves.

I've known about this place for years, but walked through the front door, for the first time, today. Holy Hannah, have i been missing out. This isn't the first time it has happened: i watched Annie Hall, for the first time about a month ago. And that's just what Jimmy's Food Store is: a hard to find Woody Allen film, starring homemade Italian ice cream, wonderful baked foods, hand-rolled Italian sausage, imported tomato sauces and olive oils, etc etc. I bought a bowl full of peeled garlic cloves for a buck. You can also do shots of espresso for 99-cents. There is a very small dining area towards the front of the store - enough room for two-dozen Europeans, OR roughly eight people, born and bred in Houston. How can i say this appropriately - To the People of Houston, Texas: you must continue breathing, even while you eat. Jimmy's Food Store can be anything you want it to be. I even considered having my 30th birthday party there. At the end of the day, it's just a grocery, where you can hide-out, while eating sandwiches and drinking imported beer by the bottle. New favorite.

The food here is excellent. its one of those places you could get lunch two days in a row without noticing. The only downside as far as dining is that it is most certainly a Grocery store, so you may have someone in front of you buying 20 items when you just want to pay for your sandwich.
That said they'll make a salad out of just about any sandwich, and realistically most sandwiches could feed two. The upside to this being a grocery store is that their drink & chips selection to go with your sandwich is huge.
I do have to say I stay away from the from the subs. I really like the cuban and the muffeletta.

This is one of my Dallas favs. Get the Cuban but put the sauce on the side. Trust me on this one. It hurts. But if you're hungover from the night before, its a great cure.
i went to get stuff to make caprese. ended up staring at balsamic vinegar for no less than 20 minutes.
i love this place because they have a great selection of local stuff. ice cream from this fabulous creamery in plano, pastas from civello's, good fresh produce. it's not quite large enough to be my regular food store, and damned if they don't close at 8. most of my shopping takes place after that. but i love it anyway.

A NY style Italian grocery in the middle of Dallas, Texas. Great foods, wines, and hard to find items are available here. You can get homemade Italian sausage, bracciole, meatballs, and anchovy-stuffed olives
Great deli with the "Best Sandwich in Dallas", the Cuban. Get it spicy. You'll have to wait about 10-15 min. for one of these babies, so call ahead. Here's the number:
214-823-6180
They have a little dining area in the front of the store now, so you can eat right there.
I can't recommend this place highly enough.

For the best sandwiches in Dallas you can't beat Jimmy's. It burned down to come back even better. There's more selection now. They have a bunch of people in the back to take your order. Don't miss the Mufaletta or the meatball sandwich. Take home some meatballs or some olives, delicious! They have some real imported Italian foods there too.

An' you bettah say it, or I'll @%* break your god-@!# legs, capiche?

Finding a truly exceptional dining experience anywhere is a rare thing indeed. And your chances of finding a decent authentic Italian joint in DFW are about the same as Pres. Bush becoming a Hare Krishna, or OJ finding the "real killers". I know. I've been looking for 14 years without success. (For the food, not the killers.)
Guess what?!
I hope George remembers how to wrap a toga from the ol' frat days, 'cause ...
I fouund iiit!!
There's a little place called Jimmy's on the east side of town. It's a deli/food store, so there ain't no spaghetts here except what you find dried on the shelves. But if you're lookin' for a real NYC-style Italian sub? Then forghettaboutit! Jimmy's is THE place. In fact, it's the best place in Dallas for sandwiches, period. (And if you open your mouth, Breadwinners, I gotta sock fulla doorknobs wit your name on it, capiche?)
What a gem. What an absolute gem! A true Hole-in-the-Wall. Don't know what I mean? C'mere an' get an ed-u-cation, my fine friend. Is Jimmy's in an out-of-the-way place or in a crummy part of town? Check! Does Jimmy's have exceptional or distinctive food? Double-check! And does Jimmy's have a large following of local devotees? My answer to you is you don't wanna know, you never knew, and you never knew anyone who knew.
Bada-Bing, Bada-Boom! Classic!
When doors first open at Jimmy's, it's like you can hear the angels singing. His name is Sinatra; the Chairman of the Board to you, mister. And if old Blue Eye's is taking a breather, you might catch a little Companari, too, or - I kid you not - the vocal interpretation of the theme to The Godfather. (*sign of the cross*) Ah, the plight of love forlorn, so far and forgotten, a dream, unbidden, the sour remnant of an old hope that could never come to pass. So sad. Now that's atmosphere, paesano!
Jimmy's is small. In front are fresh, quality vegetables and aisles of imported goodies you won't even find at Central Market. From capers to sun-dried tomatoes to chocolates to 5 different kinds of spaghetti you probably never even knew existed - boom! all right there on the shelves. Jimmy's even has real Balsamic Vinegar, at $80-100 a pop. This is the real deal, people, not the fugazi malted corn syrup with food coloring you buy at Albertson's for $10 a hit.
Even better, half the place is stocked with wine. Jimmy's has more bottles of imported Italian joy waiting to emptied than Brittany Spears on tour in Rome after 3am. It's a veritable cornucopia of the fermented essence of the vines of Italy, organized by region and style. Perfect for those who sip and savor, or those with the cash to chug in style.
The place attracts all kinds. Yuppies, punks, lovers, Italian grandmas, and, hey! even your Uncle Paulie over here!, all circulating through the aisles or hovering over the delights of the deli. Because this is where Italians who care go to shop in DFW.
And what a deli! Real Romano and Parmesan cheese! Real! Imported from Italy! Such powerful flavor you'll never touch Kraft's putrid processed "cheese" again. (Bonemeal + gypsum + ..)
Puzzi! (*spits emphatically*)
Jimmy's has real mozzarella, too, made from the milk of water buffalo. Bea-utiful. Bet you forgot mozzarella was supposed to have a taste, and not just melt good, eh? Buy it! Try it! Be born again and taste for the first time what it means to be good cheese!
But the main feature here are the sandwiches. Best in DFW. Real, sharp deli meats and cheeses, both fatty and fresh. Garden-grade tomatoes that are fantastic, so juicy sweet and firm. Finely shredded lettuce. The whole thing doused with a sharp, but slightly sweet vinaigrette. It's like having the greatest garden salad on earth sitting on layers of the finest deli meats, all bursting forth from a handsome loaf of bread. Your choice - white or wheat. And pretty decent wheat at that. Not as good maybe as Breadwinner's but nearly there.
The Italian Stallion is a steal at $8 for 12", which is 4 bucks a meal. The prosciutto panino has the real stuff (not 'interpreted') and the muffuletta is a wondrous spread of fancy pickled veggies. Salty, but loaded. So good.
So go already!

Italian stallion, no veggies, please. And while they're making my sandwich, and probably for 20 minutes more, I'll browse the aisles, usually stalling out in the wine section, amazed at the bargains and still learning new varietals. Oh, and they have Henry's ice cream by the tub. If I lived any closer I would weigh 20 pounds more.

What does East "bang bang" Dallas and Italy have in common. Jimmy's of course. Stepping into this small store you step into another world. From Wines to Salamis they have it and if that is not enough Giant size subs and Paninis for pennies., Ok for 4-5 bucks. I recommend you start of simple with a turkey or italian sub. Then work your way up to the big boys the Cuban and the Italian Stallion ( that one I had to throw in the towel no mas, no mas!!). I wll also say that Jimmy carries real Cokes in a bottle from Old Mexico too, How does Jimmy do it? don't ask! forget about it . I know it sounds to good to be true, but it does exist. So be brave and venture East and enjoy the magic that is Jimmy's.

Whatever guys, the neighborhood is not that bad . . . Jimmy's Food Store is one of the coolest places in town. I feel like I'm back in Brooklyn every time I walk in. Maybe it's the amazing subs. Maybe it's the imported foods, maybe it's the slight hint of anger in the customer service. Regardless, this has the best Italian Subs in town. No question.
Go Jimmy!

I have only had the Cuban from here, but it was excellent, though I do wonder why cubans have pickles on them. We will be going here pretty often from here on since some friends showed me the light. I have now been back a bunch of times and the cuban is still good, but so is the Italian Stallion, the Italian Sausage and the chicken Parm.
Also a good market for hard to find italian treats.

I've been hearing about Jimmy's for years and see it whenever we go to Jade Garden or Mai's just catty corner down the street. Yeah, its not in a great neighborhood but be brave and venture in. I'm kicking myself that I just went in yesterday for a sandwich. This is one of those places to not judge the book by its cover. I walked in to discover a food store with an outstanding Italian wine store. If you've been to Italy and are looking for a bottle from a small village you visited you may want to check here. I loved the way they had the wine sorted by the area... it was fun to look through and I will definitely be back for the wine. I think I might even do a bit of shopping here too... they have a great selection of imported pastas, olive oils, tomato sauce, anchovies, capers and caper berries etc.. I love all that stuff! so then I meander my way back to the butcher and they have a great assortment of deli meats, steaks, sausages. I'm still impressed and feel I'm in a little shop in Italy.... I'm loving every minute of this. I order an Italian sub and its great.. the meats and cheeses are high quality.. great sandwich. The only part I would change is maybe the bread it was a bit too soft for my liking.. but that's me I like a bit more of a chewy bread than softer. But it was still good and will definitely go back. I've heard the Cuban is great and can't wait to try it. I took my sammy home with me to enjoy but they do have a few seats in front if you have that "chow now" factor. If you like sandwiches and haven't been there.... get over there you're going to love it!
edit: they also have a good assortment of Italian coffee beans

The neighborhood is not for the squeamish. However, Jimmy's is a great neighborhood grocery store with an Italian deli. They make awesome Muffalettas and Cuban pork sandwiches. They have imported foods from Italy, a great selection of cheeses and deli meats, and a sizable wine selection. For all you yelpers reviewing chain restaurants, you will be intrigued, fascinated, and bewildered by this place. Jimmy's has character.
