6 reviews for Jim Neelys Interstate Bar B Que
I am from Kansas City. I love Kansas City BBQ. I went to Memphis to see some music and I wanted to try this "Memphis BBQ" business... We decided to try Jim Neely's because of a recommendation from a local and holy cow, we were pleased.
My husband go the pork sandwich because he had to... its famous and I tried the turkey. They asked if we wanted slaw on the sandwich... HELL YEAH WE DO! I ordered an iced tea (unsweetened) and it was the single best ice tea I have ever had. My husband said his sandwich was the best pork he had ever had, and the Neely sauce, though different from KC, was amazing!
I would eat here regularly if I was from Memphis. Slaw on sandwich = amazing!
I haven't been back to Interstate BBQ since the celebriation of the Neely's. That always concerns me when the cooks/chefs go on TV and start pimping cookbooks. Are they still there to monitor the deliciousness of finger-lickin' Q? Hopefully so because during my travels to Memphis (which have tapered off recently) this was a must have.
They keep it real with the picnic style decor and you'll feel comfortable walking in wearing sweats (as if that's possible in Memphis). I've only been here for lunch and can tell you that its not the place to go if you're expecting service. They're looking to move you in and out and keep business going.
So get off you're pretentious pedestal, order your well priced Q, gorge it down, love it, pay your bill, and move on! You're not the only one craving delicious sweet and spicy beasts of the field...
I ate at the Neely's in the B terminal of the Memphis airport.
I just started liking BBQ quite recently and will not attempt to fake BBQ knowledge. But I judge BBQ on how much I can like it when I used to hate it, so I feel that's a fair measuring tool.
This was awesome. Tender, juicy chopped beef with absolutely delicious sauce. Of course, I could eat packets of Arby's sauce and swear its my absolute favorite, so take that as you will. But the sauce and great meat, combined with the approval of my more credibly opinionated dining partners, makes this place a winner for a layover.
I love the ribs and the service was much better. This is one of my three favorite rib places in Memphis - how can you have just one favorite rib place in Memphis, sheesh!

This is one my top three BBQ vendors. I say vendors because, to my knowledge, you can only get… Read more »
This place could have possibly been the absolutely best BBQ since South Carolina, and that's no lie. If you dont' believe me, I'll fight you.
Mmmmm.... a nice tall glass of Sweet Tea ...I just HAD to order the Sampler plate. I mean, really, what if I never passed through here again? How could I chance that? Now, I'm a gamblin' man by nature, but that's one bet I can't take. So I did.
Ten minutes later, a platter full of sizzlin' BBQ goodness is presented to my table. Hot Links, BBQ Pork (carnitas w/BBQ Sauce on it) and some sort of beef slices w/BBQ sauce on it. Oh....and 4 Brontosaurus ribs. MMMM......soooo good.
Newspaper clippings, community awards, magazine articles from all over the Nation were framed and hung upon the wall, heralding the Meaty BBQ Goodness that I was about to enjoy. And they did not disappoint. I couldn't finish my plate...oh yeah, besides the 'Que they brought out, they also brought little bowls filled with BBQ Beans, Cole Slaw and BBQSpaghetti, which was stangely delicious.
AND, two slices of white bread. (of course). I gotta go get me some BBQ soon.....
big props for keepin it REAL in terms of decor, service and overall bbq vibe. it may be sacriledge, but I liked Central BBQ better on a taste level, but its hard to get more 'authentic' than interstate on 3rd.
