I dunno.......ambience, 2, maybe 1 stars.  Food.....3.5 stars.  Rounded out to about 3 stars.   Fact I didn't get shot up.........4 stars.

This place will be the Olympics for your colon.  No, really.

We stayed at a little bed and breakfast up the way from this restaurant, and, seeing as though the Valley View casino had sold out tickets for the buffet, this was the only viable option for dining around this area.

On the plus side, however, they DID get an "A" health rating (you know you're eating "real" chicken and not something else......)

But seriously, food is a little on the greasier side.  It's pretty good, but I guarantee food is fried/cooked in either lard/vegetable oil.   Twice.   That carne asada burrito just sat in my belleh as I was going to sleep.  No indigestion, just heavy eats.

As I've said before in my reviews, my bar for Mexican food is high.  Therefore, three stars for Jilberto.

As Jim Carrey says in Ace Ventura, "do NOT go in THERE........WHEW!!!"

Authentic.

Dropped in after my latest escapade of cycling lunacy (a non-warm up assault on South Grade Road up Mount Palomar).

After such a ride (12 miles out in 1 hour 24min, and a return trip in 26 minutes), the hunger is peaked, and Jilbertos meets the demand.

I had the Beef Machaca breakfast plate.  Awesome Machaca, with generous portions of beef, onions, peppers and more ... and the beans and rice were good. too.

The tortillas were fabulous.

Mis amigos had a Veggie Burrito and a Chile Relleno Burrito, and both raved.

Do not expect great service, just authentic food ... and seeing as this is a location that you would end up in only if you really NEEDED some food, it will always be wonderful.

So ... Go Ride a Bike UP Mt Palomar, and then eat here.

It is worth it.

Me:  "I'd like a drink, machaca plate, and a chicken burrito togo."
Woman taking my order:  "real chicken burrito?"
Me:  ...

*I didn't ask what she meant but of course I opted for the "real" chicken..  Street style mexican food.. around 7.00 for plates and 5.00 burritos.  Large menu including breakfast plates.  Runny chile and food could use more flavor.  But there really wasn't anywhere else to eat around here. The closest restaurant around was another Jilberto's Taco Shop.. there must be a surplus of real and unreal chicken around here.

My wife had an engagement shoot to do out here, so we thought we would hit up Valley View for their buffet(that we hear so much about)    Anyhow, line there was crazy, so we left.  Came across this place while stopping for some water, and was i glad that we did.
place is not fancy by any means, which is fine by us.  menu was expansive, as were the inexpensive meals that we ordered.   my chicken burrito was good and greasy, and my wife proclaimed it her favorite burrito yet, and wished that it was closer.  if you are in the area, and hungry, it's worth a shot.

Great spot for your typical taqueria quick-fix.

Tip:  If you get the bacon breakfast burrito, you'd better mean it!  The amount of meat in that thing makes it a serious artery buster!
