Great neighborhood joint, yummy sushi and no frills service, i won't say you'll get a 5 star meal and service, but what you'll get is a delicious selection of sashimi and reasonable prices and you'll never have to wait in line.
Jia's is a staple in my restaurant repetoire.
Closed after 16 years at this location -- lost their lease.
Calls are forwarded to their sister restaurant, Shine Morida.

Okay, I'm extremely picky about sushi. And I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I had ordered the spicy tuna roll, and it was really, really good. I was somewhat disappointed with the tempura, but everything else was fine.
The price is decent for what you're getting. I don't know, I had bad experiences with seafood. I mean, it's the midwest. What do you expect?
Basically you get good not great chinese food without going to china town. It has some parking after 5PM which is nice.
SOFT SHELL CRABS are great as well as a couple of the chinese staples. Try the country tofu dish with pork added, very healthy and good. Waiters are pleasant and remember what we like. I would reccomend Jias if you are hungry for chinese but too lazy to drive to china town and deal with all the riff raff down there.
I've eaten at Jia's a bunch of times and it's always good. This is a great place to go if you like sushi, but you are eating out with people who don't like it. They have a great menu with good sushi and good Chinese food selections so everyone will be happy. I pretty much always get sushi since I could live off of it, but I've tried the stir fry and Jias a few times and it's really good. I recommend the cashew chicken stir fry if you are going with the Chinese food option.
Jia's is one of the few places that delivers sushi my neighborhood so I order from here all the time. It's not the best sushi I've had, but it tastes good and it's fresh. It usually does the trick when I'm having a sushi craving!
As a creature of habit, my friends and I went to one of our neighborhood favorites, Jia's, earlier this week for some consistently good Chinese and sushi...What a mistake. The food tasted oddly too sweet, which we later found out was due to sugar they added to the soy sauce and all dishes containing soy sauce - disgusting. Also, the service was so slow that I thought our waiter had gone off shift. Well, actually, that is consistent considering the service is always slow...but usually the great food makes up for it. I spoke with the manager and asked for the meal to be taken off the bill (which took 3 tries), so let's hope this was just a random incident. Either way, our meal was a complete waste...
The sesame chicken is my favorite. But, it is much better at the Halsted location in Lincoln Park. Also, this location tends to skimp on the portion- it's a very small amount, compared to a much more generous amount at the Halsted locatin. Also, I'd stay away from the sushi. It's a bit fishy and doesn't taste very fresh to me. But I guess some people like it, I just find it a bit off. I'd stick to the chicken dishes and appetizers. Their delivery is very fast and the food is always great tasting.
This is a good spot for sushi and other noodle dishes and entrees... they've got a great ambiance, the dining room is pretty big so there's not usually a wait.. the prices are reasonable too!
A nice spot for chinese and japanese food. It's good and reasonably priced, while the atmosphere is great. They have a couple tables outside, but I still prefer the dining room.
I was skeptical until I saw the inside. It's very nice looking and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I'll be back.
I was visiting Chicago with a group of friends for the weekend and everyone was in the mood for something different for dinner. Two of my friends wanted to go to a sushi restaurant, one wanted spicy food, one wanted Chinese food, and all I wanted was soup because I wasn't feeling good. Being from out of town I was clueless when it came to suggestions, but one of the guys I was visiting suggested Jia's which he says is his favorite restaurant in Chicago. I had a big steaming bowl of Ramen which really hit the spot, my friend Rebecca ordered hand rolls and said that they were the best she had ever had. I wasn't the biggest fan of my cocktail, I ordered the Ginger Martini, but I tend to prefer sweeter concoctions and others at the table ordered it and loved it. Bottom line; this is a pretty good restaurant with excellent atmosphere. If you live in Chicago and have never been give it a try.
I went here this past weekend and loved it!! They had delicious non-greasy food. I really recommend the sesame shrimp. It was fabulous. It was also really easy to get a seat. The only thing that was slightly weird was that at one point their music had some cats meowing and screaming which isn't exactly what you want to hear at a Chinese restaurant! I will definatly go back many many times.
