I never write reviews, seriously, but a few trips to this salon warranted a truly glowing recommendation -- so here I go telling you why this is the answer to your prayers -- or at least that goes for a visit to one stylist named Kirsten. (No, I have no personal stake in this place, despite how positive this review is.)
I lived in Chicago for many years and it took forever to find someone who really understood what I wanted for my hair and could achieve it. I am not a high-maintenance person, but every few months when I drop some substantial money on my hair, I want it to be worth it. Then I moved to Portland and had to start all over in my search for a good hairstylist, and was met with disaster after disaster. I mean, I went to very high-end expensive places (Dosha, Aveda on Broadway) and found out too late that my stylist was inexperienced, or just not listening to me. Then I got a recommendation for a gal named Kirsten (pronounced "Shasteen," she's Swedish) and I'll never go to anyone else.
I gotta say, I just loved her from the get-go. She is very, very inquisitive about what you want for your hair. She looks at you and listens to you like she has all the time in the world. Before you get started, she explains so much about the options and the results you will get. She analyzes your hair follicles and talks to you about the type of hair you have, and the kind of choices you can make to get the look you want. She is really helpful in making decisions, and has this incredible personality where she is bubbly, funny (even hysterically funny), and totally scientific and informative about the magic she performs on your hair.
Also, when you are under the dryer, she gives you hand/arm massages and cracks you up! Normally, I don't care for excessive chit-chat when I'm getting my hair done -- I generally choose intermittent conversation over constant conversation. But with Kirsten, at the end of the appointment, I kind of wish that we could go out for coffee and keep talking.
Like I said, I have no personal stake in this salon. I am just an incredibly satisfied customer.
Kirsten cut and colored my hair before my wedding day and it looked so stunning, I still get compliments from people viewing the photos. I absolutely love Kirsten!
Yes, the salon recently moved from NW Portland to Beaverton, and yes, I followed. The drive is nothing compared to what this gal can do.
The two reviews above are RIGHT on. It appears to be a regular, unassuming salon but I'll tell you what - Kirsten at Jet is absolutely amazing. There is no way someone has more difficult hair than me and after Kirsten I get compliments for the first time in years. Curly, dry, frizzy, too thick - she can deal with it all. She ABSOLUTELY listens, and yes - her personality is utterly delightful. What a neat, sweet, talented woman. I have absolutely no personal interested in her or her salon - this is a very genuine opinion.
This was formerly the Geisha salon in NW who moved out to Beaverton this month and their new location is great!! Their service is fabulous as ever - Cindy cut & colored my hair and I've been getting complements all day from both my husband and perfect strangers! Its been wonderful. Their new space is bright, light, open and friendly and has PARKING which is wonderful after scrimping in NW every time I'd come to see them before. They are also right next to the Beaverton Round on the Max tracks making this gas-conscious-gal very pleased. If you want great service and the perfect look go to the Jet salon!!
