Jet City Espresso
8 reviews for Jet City Espresso
This place looks like a worn down old gas station that was made into a welcoming, warm home for the homeless. I LOVE THAT!! It sucks MOLDIE VEGGIE Cheese that this place is shutting down. Who needs more Condos in Renton? Renton needs its landmarks..
Love that this place is cluttered, nothing matches: old dominoes stacked on small tables and old furniture, You might even find a cat lounging around some where. THIS PLACE IS GENIUS!
Their Coffee " CAN WAKE THE DEAD!"
I like their Green tea chi latte, Come try it!
I'm going to miss this place man. =/
OK, I gotta admit driving by Jet City Expresso has always piqued my curiosity but honestly most people would assume it was part of a decaying junk yard and NOW, I've got to get there fast before they condo-up all of downtown Renton. I'm new to the area and am always looking for where in-the-know peeps are hanging out. Thanks for answering the question! I've had dinner at the Whistle Stop Ale House - great raspberry chicken salad and wine! Also, dinner at the Red House (think thats the name) very cute place but the food was so-so, but the wine was great! Also, had a great cappucino w/extra foam at the Common Grounds Coffee and Cupcakes. I didn't order any cuppy's but the Cap in a real mug was extraordinarily good. I told them how I wanted it made and they did me proud.
Update as promised:
1) The coffee ROCKS.
2) The server is awesome.
3) Dog biscuits!
4) Baked goods are SO good.
5) It's just totally freakin' cool. Go here already!
This is one of those places I'm going to take my visiting friends. Newly arrived in the spring, my husband and I were taking a walk around Renton to see where we might eat or shop in the future. When we rounded a corner, we honestly thought someone was having a yard sale at an old gas station--an extremely cool yard sale with very great chairs. It slowly dawned on us that this was the outdoor seating area of Jet City Espresso. We imagined ourselves sitting out here with the hipsters on a warm summer evening. Sounds like livin'.
We ventured inside where the decor is kitschy-antique-mall-in-a-windstorm. In other words, perfect. Several vintage hooded beauty shop hair dryers figure in among the chairs and couches grouped randomly for patrons. There was so much stuff on the walls--signs, knicknacks, dolls, stuffed flamingos--that at first I didn't even notice that there was an actual human sitting in one of the chairs. We loved how they just open up the entire wall--the door from the service area of the gas station--to let in the breeze.
We asked the girl behind the counter if the kitsch is for sale; she said it's not, it's just for fun (though we noticed later a sign on the outside said "Jet City Espresso and Gifts," so maybe that's an old sign or maybe we just didn't see the gifts--there was a lot to take in!) Since it was late and we didn't want a caffeine shot, we instead bought several organic cookies (packaged) and a couple sweet rolls that may or may not have been made there, for breakfast the next day. They were very good.
I'll add to my review when I actually go back there for coffee, because I am definitely going back!
My wife picks me up there when I fly back into Seattle and didn't do one of those Airport Park And Gos. I bus to Renton. Walk to Jet City. Java or two or three. Driven home.
OK this place is Crappy!, and that is why we love it.
the Coffee is Great, the staff is friendly and "interesting" Talk to Mike if you get the chance... uber cool guy
It's an old converted gas station, and there is "stuff" everywhere.
great atmosphere, very chill environment.
Jet City Espresso: one of a kind.
I'm new to the renton area, so perhaps it is not I that should be writing this review of an espresso shop that has been in business for over a decade but... no one else has.
I've been reviewing yelp for some time and there is precious little written about Renton and figure it's time for me to do my part.
I was thrilled to find Jet City when I moved down here. It's a quirky, converted gas station filled vintage junk and frequented by locals who have the time to have one "for here" instead of the "to go" crowd that blows thru most espresso shops. I sincerely like two of the folks that work there and I like the fact that they let dogs in. On one occassion, there were more dogs than people inside, and that lends to the somewhat dingy nature of the beat up couches etc in the seating areas. In the afternoon, the retired locals haunting the place give way to a younger set and virtually all regulars seem to be non-abercrombie and fitch types, which also appeals to me.
If you want Starbucks, go there.
If you want an unpretentious cup with the locals, go to Jet City.
In closing, I would have given JC 5 stars, but I found a better cup of espresso nearby (the stand in the entrance to McLendon's Hardware - I swear) and, the quality of a strait shot or undoctored americano just has to be considered.
Their COFFEE is the best. They make it out of LOVE- you can taste the LOVE in the coffee :)
We have been a big fans of Jet City Espresso for almost 3 years now. I HIGHLY recommend this place. Try every single coffee flavor they offer. You will be surprised.
Jet City will be closing, the location is being turned in to condos. When I was looking at buying my drive thru in Renton I visited Jet City because it is such a highly rated local coffee spot and I fell in love with it at first drink. I'm sad to see such a bastion of coffee culture in Renton be replaced with more condos.
