Review Highlights
this place has undergone some renovation recently. the food counter is now longer. new seats, new tables, even the flooring is also new.
and yet the shawarma is the same old, familiar, nice, juicy platter of goodness. the same friendly, smiling dude works the grill. and still open until 4 in the morning. i love this neighborhood spot!!!
minus 1 star though for the relatively higher price ($10 for a shawarma platter, for example). i suppose that's a function of the more expensive UWS commercial rent prices...
Hole in the wall but fantastic Falafel joint. Underwent some serious renovations. I devoured the Falafel sandwich, added the mystery hot sauce and needed a jug of water after a few bites. For a spice-a-holic, this is good.. in my opinion. Nice texture of the chickpeas and soft yet crunchy pita. Had a sip of Turkish coffee which wasn't bad, just not something I am accustomed to eating. The guy that usually works the grill is super chill and friendly. He'll feed you hummus and bits of pita while you wait for your food. Love love love love love this place. Eat in, check! Have your significant other order food while you wait in the car, check! Eat at midnight, check! Hard to beat Jerusalem Falafel!
The Jerusalem Salad takeout was good. Quick service.
I love the shwarma at this place and the guy behind the counter that keeps feeding me hummus and baba ganouj on a pita while I wait. He's really funny and always says he's going to charge you some crazy amount for the food. XD
A year later, after having tried Urban Pita and Mamouns, it's still good, but I don't consider it an addiction.

Mmmm delicious. There must be a narcotic in the sauce because last summer I couldn't stop going… Read more »
eh decent
but they got new lights in the store
maybe i'll go back soon
The place is a little dirty - but that has no bearing on the food. Love the falafel and shwarma here. The guys behind the counter are incredibly friendly, too, and it's open so late! A win, in my book.
The type of food here is not my usual craving, but when that craving arrives I know where to go.
Great fast food in the neighborhood. Super nice guys working there. I will go back cause it's cheap and tasty. Not a 5 star restaurant, but it isn't trying to be. The place is not romantic - more like a little food stand in a grocery store.
Some of the finest falafel in nyc. The middle eastern platters are delicious and traditional. Also nice baklava. Open til 4am, delivery til 2am.
"CORRECTION, I did have sex with Katie." Turns out Jerusalem does have competition. There's Casablanca on 103rd between Broadway and Amsterdam (but I haven't been).
I concur with the other reviews so far -- a solid falafel shop in this neighborhood. Of course, there's no other falafel anywhere nearby but bah, minor detail.
I can't decide which description best "sells" this place:
It's where I go to get my falafel on.
or
A nice dirty whole to sit and enjoy really good shawarma.
so which do you think?
The food is solid, but they lose a star for imposing a $15 minimum on credit card transactions, which is laughable. Bring cash if you're just grabbing something to go.
This is what a falafel shop should be. Cramped, with the smells of falafel and shwarma in the air. Arabic music plays on an old stereo.
After you place your order, the guy behind the counter tears off a piece of pita, dips it in some tahini and passes it over to you - just a taste of what is to come.
The falafel, shwarma, and gyro sandwiches are the best on the upper west side, and cheaper than most of the others further south. I'm a sucker for french fries and grape leaves. The fries are a tad soggy, but the grape leaves are wonderful.
My only complaint is that Jerusalem Restaurant does not deliver.
Shawarma Pita is bomb!
The place is warm and cozy, the menu I thought was confusing but they are very friendly so no worries while ordering.
Delivery would be a step up however they are good enough for me to put some pants on and walk over.
Recently updated a bit -- great Shwarma! Small enough to walk right past, which would be a shame! I do believe it's cash only.
The baba ganoush here is HEAVENLY -- whipped, smoky, with no base note of bitterness. If you're a shwarma lover, however, order the platter, as the sandwich version can be so sparing with meat that it tastes crisply vegetarian. Lots of human warmth here, and the snugness of space makes it feel like a personal discovery. Ultimately, though, it's the sort of place you'd want to love more than you really, honestly can.
What do I associate with this place? Lamb juice dripping down my chin, lamb juice dripping down my hands......oh my gosh I'm starting to drool. This tiny little blink-and-you-miss-it falafel and shawarma place is a must.
I've had Mamoun's and others, but this is hands-down the best shwarma in the city. So juicy! I live in Brooklyn and work in Midtown, but I sometimes make the jaunt all the way up to 103rd for no reason other than to fulfill my shwarma craving.
My v. good friend who is not only a native, but grew up in Manhattan Valley told me about this place. So good. The schwarma is juicy and flavorful, and the falafel have just the right amount of spice/crunch ratio. It's also mad cheap, which is always nice.
I'm addicted to falafel & hummus platters. Good, fresh, plentiful food and a great price.
Tiny place, friendly people, tasty pitas, awesome shwarmas and some free hummus while you wait.
I really like this little Falafel shack, it is pretty unique on the west side for one thing, and the food is cheap and cheerful with little to no ambience...perfect pretty much anything wrapped in a pita with various sauces is good here. A great snack if you are walking by.
A tiny little hole-in-the-wall with a couple of incidental tables. It hardly seems like a restaurant at all. However, you cannot resist going in when you smell the smells that come out this place.
My GOODNESS, is the food good! If you like falafel and Baba Ganoush, and just want to eat, this is perfect.
I have always had a soft spot in my heart for schwarma and kebabs. In NY, my current spot of choice is hands down Jerusalem Restaurant. I can't really put my finger on what makes it so good--it just tastes so good! And afterward, you feel great--just the right amount of food. I like to order it with a ginger ale to wash it down.
