2 reviews for Jersey Mike's
Other than the bite I had of a left over sandwich from the Simi Valley's Jersey Mike's, I haven't had a Jersey Mike's sandwich since I was in the Navy stationed in South Carolina...
My professional fat kid training was put to the test in the Navy with the timed all you can eat...Think of a free buffet that put out food for 4 hours a meal...I was definitely a face that was recognized in the "refueling station"...
Now although the food was decent in the galley, I always found ways to get my ass to a Jersey Mike's, even taking to campus hitchhiking and bribery...Being on the East Coast, I figured I would try the Philly Cheesesteak...
Instant favorite...I was eating there at least once a week...I only ordered the giant philly...
It was only til I got back home when I really had the best cheesesteak sandwich ever (Sorry Philadelphia, you're phillies are too canned...The California Philly uses fresh everything...), but at the same time, the flame never died for the first philly cheesesteak I ever tried...
I probably picked the worst day in the world to come to the Jersey Mike's in Thousand Oaks...They had a coupon that would expire the next day, so the place was PACKED...Something like donate a dollar to charity and you get a free regular sized sub...
A dollar a sub? Unfortunately, I did not have a coupon like my lovely friend did...I bought two subs...A cold and a hot...The big Kahuna Philly (which was new to me from SC...) and a some special they had that had pepperoni slices...
Now the one thing that I really enjoyed about Jersey Mike's is that they have these huge deli pieces of meat that get sliced and placed directly on your sandwich (grill in my case)...There aren't too many places to get fresh cut deli meat on your sandwich other than supermarkets...
I'm sure if it wasn't so crowded, I could have watched the Colts/Charger game without having 30 strangers talking order...
The philly definitely brought me back to SC...the canned bell peppers, the jalapenos were a nice kick, the soaked in bread...Just the way I remembered it...hahaha...And with a cherry coke as usual...
One thing that strikes me funny about this franchise is that the menu is numbered 4, 12, 22, whatever...I noticed this in SC too...There isn't a consistent numbering system to the sandwiches...I don't know, it just strikes me funny...
Maybe it's just professional courtesy, but even though the place was packed and noisy, the staff was really nice to me...Like went out of their way to be nice...
I just re-read my review to make sure it was accurate and to make sure I didn't leave anything out...
How could I freakin' forget?
They have a sandwich size bigger than the large...It's called GIANT...
This thing is so big that they cut it into FOUR...
NOW I REMEMBER WHY I WENT HERE SO MUCH IN SC! HAHAHAHAHAHA...
Four sandwiches for the price of 11 dollars? That's less than 3 bucks a sandwich...You could have 4 square meals for 11 dollars...Or one professional fat kid meal for 11 dollars...
The only reason why this place doesn't get 5 stars is because it has chips...To get 5, you need something like french fries (either sweet potato or regular), fresh chips, onion rings, fried zucchini or tempura mushrooms...Or guacamole...Know what I mean? Fresh is good, but you really gotta earn that fifth star...
Really good meatball sub, but WAAAAY too expensive! I though subway's meatball was pretty much the same...less $$ too.
