I like Jerry's! I stopped in for dinner on a weeknight around 6:00pm. Things were pretty quiet and the bar area was empty. I was seated promptly by Emerald, who also ended up being my waitress.
I had scoped out the menu beforehand and had already decided on an appetizer of boudin balls, with an entree of jambalaya with a side of potatoes. To drink, I had a sweet tea.
It took maybe ten minutes for my app to arrive. The fried boudin looked a little burnt, but it sure didn't taste it. They had a nice mellow taste to them and they were accompanied by a spicy ketchup based sauce. As I finished off the boudin, my entree arrived. Dale had mentioned in his short review that servings were small. This was not the case on my visit. I had a sizeable portion of jambalaya which was served with cajun bread which was tasty. A little less "wet" than I was expecting, but no less delicious. The pieces of chicken were substantial. I enjoyed the potatoes as well, though I was hoping to find something like the potatoes I had when I was in N'awlins.
For dessert, I was going for the bread pudding. The portion was a bit on the small side, but while I could complain about it, it's probably just right from a portion perspective. It was delicious. I had some blueberry bread pudding the night before in another local restaurant and this pudding was infinitely better.
Service was great. Emerald was quick to clear dishes and refill my sweet tea. If I'm back in the neighborhood at some point, I'll be back!! -

I flat love me some Cajun! My absolute all time favorite type of food. So you can imagine how excited I was, when a fellow yelper suggested Jerry's. I wish I had been as excited when I left, but alas it was not to be.
I'm a bit of a Cajun snob and Jerry's didn't step up to the plate. They did try hard to accommodate allowing me to special order crawfish etoufee on a bed of rice surrounded by an order of fried crawfish but as the two stars indicate "Meh, Ive experienced better"
Although I did like the crawfish etoufee the breading on the fried crawfish was boring and uninspired, I thought the cole slaw tasted wierd my fellow yelper Andy D loved it.
Next time I head up that way I'll give them another chance, hopefully I'll be upgrading the star count. Good luck! -

I always make time for Jerry's when I'm in Pensacola. The service is quick and friendly, and the food is more authentic than most N'awlins joints.
I'm not a salad person, but the house salad with the sauteed crawfish was the best I have ever tasted. The catfish nuggets were to die for also.
The previous day I had the Cajun Sampler with Jambalaya, Ettoufee and Red Beans and Rice. That meal was tasty but the portion was way to big.
All in all, I say put this place on your agenda when in Pensacola! -

Jerry's primary asset, beyond ambiance is the great staff/service. The roast beef po boy is a bit salty in the sauce, but otherwise good.

My second time back to Jerry's Cajun Cafe. This time service was even better then the last, maybe cuter then last. And, it was also a light luncheon crowd. I really can't figure why good service and phenomenal food should pack the place.
There were several things I wanted to try, from the Boudin, to the Gumbo, but the soft shelled crabs were calling me. Probably because every time I try them it's a rarity that I really like them. The do have a quick turning point when there just fishy!
I ordered the Soft Shelled Crab Po-Boy and my good friend ordered the Crawfish Etouffee Meg Ryan style. That is Meg Ryan style in the movie "When Harry Met Sally". He would have Crawfish Etouffee, but with Fried Crawfish circling the bowl, of course in a combat stance. Our waitress said no pro-blame-O, very good practice indeed.
I liked the cole-slaw, he said it tasted weird. My Soft Shelled Crab Po-Boy came and it's a simple sandwich, but, it was simply the best. The only glitch was our waitress asked if I wanted tarter sauce, I said yes, and then she disappeared. No bother I eventually got it, and that put my simple sandwich together. There was no fishy taste, the soft shell crab was cooked perfectly.
My friend Harry D. well he simply loved the special Crawfish Etouffee, with his crunchy fried crawfish was so good it could be his last meal, if he were to be executed. Hhhmmmmmmmm gives me some thought as I know people he can sneak up on and talk to for a second. As long as he's willing to die for it I'll buy him a plate.
But, back to Jerry's. They sure do a wonderful job in the freshness department, I'll be back soon as I'm thinking Muffellatta.... just kidding to full.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Visiting from out of town. Food was not very tasty, stingy with the meat portions. I would not eat here again.

Crawfish PO-boy, boudin balls, gumbo, you can't go wrong here. I've been eating here since I was a kid. If you're here, you're doing it right!

One of my all time favorite places to stop and eat at when we are in town for the Blues or visiting family. The etoufee is solid and hugely satisfying, the andouille sausage appetizer is fantastic, and their bread pudding is ridiculous good. We were in town two weeks ago and waited until Sunday to go...big mistake because they are now closed on Sunday. I nearly cried on my way back to Atlanta.

You're kidding right? Cajun food? Here?.. it tasted more like a box of Zatarain's... The Iced tea was good though.

I have been coming to Pensacola for many, many years to visit family, and each time I come down we have to set aside some time to go to Jerry's Cajun for lunch. A number of my family members used to live in New Orleans at different points in time and it is truly a credit to this cajun cuisine that they rave about its authenticity (and tastiness).
I always get the shrimp po'boy with the cajun slaw and we can't ever pass up an order of the sweet potatoe fries for the table. Truly the best sweet potato fries I've ever tasted. I also end up stealing from my familys' red beans and rice, vegelettas, and cajun catfish--all likewise tasty. I have never had room for the bread pudding after such a meal, but I'm told it is also excellent.
The only thing that keeps Jerry's from all 5 stars is that the service can be a bit on the slow side from time to time, but only when they are really busy. Highly reccommend! -

Come hungry!!!
would not recommend ordering the apps, no unless you want to dig in to the main meal. i had the seafood sampler, and the crawfish tail app basket. the app was a meal in itself. the crawfish etoufee was delicious.
the bread pudding could be better.
overall a 3.5. the location and cleanliness is a 4 -
Review from Tim F.
Fast, friendly service and good portions make this a place a worth visiting. However, despite this, (and I really wanted to rate it higher) the food was generally ok. I ordered the chicken and sausage Jambalaya. The rice was a little dry and the sausage was too. The sliced bits of grilled chicken were tasty, but not enough of it was in it. Also, the chef went a little crazy with the scallions and I spent half my meal picken' them out.
However, the bread pudding is awesome. Topped with rum I would come here just for that. On the flip side, the cup of coffee (I was expecting a chikoree tasting coffee), was thin.
Maybe it was an off night on the Jambalaya, but I would definitely give them another try. -

This is a local favorite over the more touristy McGuire's.
The food is excellent and the portions are huge! I honestly can't say enough good about the food, it is well worth the stop. The prices are reasonable, and you'll have left overs. What more could you want! Check them out! -

Hands down, Jerry's Cajun is my favorite restaurant in Pensacola. They had a fire recently and had to close, but my sources (and by sources I mean my dad) informed me that as of this past Wednesday, they are re-open for business! Wahoo!
If you are a fan of seafood or Cajun-style food, or both, you must visit Jerry's. They take all the Cajun classics (think: muffulettas, poboys, gumbo, etc.) and make them better than the authentic Louisiana real things.
The only reason this place is considered moderately priced is because the expensive dishes feature seafood, and as we all know, seafood isn't cheap. You do get free refills on soft drinks (they bring you your own pitcher) and side salads with most entrees so I think it all evens out. Their house honey dijon dressing is fantastic so if you go the salad route and like that sort of thing, it's a must-try!
My first and only pick (once I try something I love, I tend not to branch out - ever) is the Crawfish Etouffe. I have dreams about this entree. It is perfection in a white dish with some cajun-spiced bread on the side for dipping in the leftover sauce.
I would venture to guess that if you try to go to Jerry's in the near future, you will be met with a hefty wait for a table since Jerry's seems to be a favorite of many locals.
UPDATE: I have made my first official visit to Jerry's since the re-opening and as far as the food goes: See above. Good as ever! They did such a good job rebuilding that if you didn't know about the fire disaster, well, you would never know it happened! The building looks great, the decor is back in full Louisiana glory, and the place is as packed as ever. -

Jerry's was a pleasant surprise on my recent trip to Pensacola. The extensive menu features all of your Louisiana faves. They try their best to use authentic LA ingredients (Gambino's bread, Central Grocery olive salad for muffaletta). Food is good, portions are huge, service is friendly. Parking can suck at lunch.

Jerry's is one of my fav places for lunch in P'cola. The cajun food is really good, lots of options and always big portions. The service is typically friendly and efficient.
Definately worth a try if you are in the mood for cajun. -

Pensacola, FL
I love the cajun food here! Hubby and I ordered the fried pickles (how can you have southern food without them?!?) and we split a cajun sampler. The gumbo was amazing. The rest of the sampler is a plate of rice with the different toppings (etouffee, red beans and rice, etc). It was pretty spicy (I was sweating), but very yummy. I was VERY glad we split the sampler. There was plenty of food for two.
This is the way cajun should be done. The fried food is lightly fried and not too greasy, the beer selection is good, the food is nice and spicy and the menu is expansive! Love it!
We bought a king cake to-go and it was awesome. Definitely one of the best I've had. Highly recommend Jerry's! -

A little surprised after seeing so many good reviews. My work takes me to LA frequently & this food really didn't stand up well to other Cajun food I've had. Maybe we just caught an off night....
Service was friendly and food arrived quickly, however this just didn't make up for the food quality. Probably will stick to eating my Cajun while visiting Louisiana. -
Review from Matthew S.

Been here four times now, and I've found the service to be kinda hit and miss. I've had wonderful service on busy nights, and terrible service on nights when the waitstaff shouldn't have had problems at all. Once, my group of friends had to wait 45 minutes for our meal, our appetizers were never brought out, and when we complained, we were offered our appetizers to-go, in a doggie bag.
On the other hand, I still keep going, because when they're on the ball, their food is outstanding. The roast beef po'boy, with debris (a chunky gravy), is killer. And no matter how bad the service, I'd still come back for their spicy sweet potato fries. -

Surprise, AZ
I have been here twice and was not impressed with the poor service and the overrated food. I wanted to like this place, because I enjoy Cajun food.
My first visit, it took several minutes of my sitting there without being acknowledged by a waiter. It wasn't until I went up to the person who seated me to ask about being served, did the waiter come out and apologize. The restaurant was not busy at that time. The person who seated me also looked disinterested in her job.
The fish po-boy was good, but nothing special. The cajun slaw was rich and rather than have much flavor, it just tasted like a bland creamy sauce with hot spices. It wasn't worth the bites.
Like another Yelp reviewer for this restaurant, I was very surprised at the many good reviews of this restaurant. -

Not bad for N'awlins cuisine in Pensacola Florida! I used to work at a competitor (The Big Easy Po Boy and Restaurant Shop) and Jerry's was our biggest competition and I clearly know why after eating there a few times! Service is pretty good and the menu has a great selection of the classics found in the French Quarter! Jerry himself is usually there and you can tell he takes great pride and appreciation of his loyal following! It's nice to find Abita beers on tap and N'awlins fare without having to drive over 3 hours into N'awlins. It's a great place for lunch but don't expect to wrap everything up and be back in the office within an hour...they are usually always busy and take time getting you what you want. But if you DO have the time and able to kick back and have some brews, then relax, sit back and enjoy the Jerry's Cajun experience!

This Cajun will make you think you are in Nawlins. It's prepared by a real Cajun. His name really is Jerry! Food is great, original and fresh. The beer is cold and the service is friendly. I visit frequently. You will too!

Almost 5 years in Pensacola and never went here until today and we are kicking ourselves for it. I spent 4 years in New Orleans going to school and the food here rivals any place like it in NOLA. We had the fried pickles, my wife had the seafood sampler and I had the Jerry's Special Boudin Poboy. Everything was great, the boudin was amazing with some sort of melted cheese on top of it or in it. My wife's dish came with gumbo and we also ordered red beans and rice as a side. I always judge Cajun food by the gumbo and the red beans and rice and both were great. Better than many places I've eaten at in NOLA. Service was OK but not too friendly. I guess they don't have to be friendly when 18% gratuity is already added to the check. Fine with me, we usually tip 20% to begin with.

Pensacola, FL
The food was heavily spiced as Cajun food should be. My family and I had no problem with the food except for the kids' chicken meal. Being that these meals are for kids with less of a palate for spiciness, they could have toned it down a bit. The only problem was the service. It took them ten minutes to bus a table and over half the restaurant was empty. They brought back the wrong beer, messed up one order. The service is much to be desired, but food is good.

Aiieee! Great food, fun atmosphere, and a wonderful staff make this a must-eat destination in Pensacola. For residents, it's an absolute treasure. For visitors to our area, it's a great way to experience some tastes you don't have back home (unless you're from Nawlins) and a place you're sure to remember. Jerry is a wonderful guy, and you stand a pretty good chance to see him percolate through the restaurant meeting his guests and making sure you're taken care of properly. I personally recommend the JSB (Jerry's Special Boudin) appetizer, the crawfish etouffe, and the amazing bread pudding; you won't find better anywhere on the coast .. including the Big Easy.

Escambia, FL
Solid choices based largely on the style of menu you might expect anywhere in Louisiana. The items are all there but I think the attention to detail suffers some. The prices are on the low side of high and for that I'd think the quality and consistency would be a bit better. (Gumbo is a little dark and heavy for instance.) While it's easy to nit-pick the little things Jerry's does provide a general cajun dining experience you won't find elsewhere in Pensacola. It's worth stopping by for a root beer and some fried dill pickles alone.

If you woke up on the porch at Jerry's Cajun Café- you'd swear you were in the Big Easy. The place is completely filled with New Orleans sports memorabilia, and the authentic Cajun cuisine is outstanding. Their burger however; not so much. The Burger is served "Po Boy Style" on a great New Orleans style baguette. Sadly, the Burger can only be served well done- and that hurt it in the scoring. The Burger would really be better described as a "Meatloaf Po Boy." Sure the produce was good, the baguette was nice, but the Burger portion of the sandwich was really a slice of Cajun meatloaf. One Judge commented "I would have rather had shrimp on my Po Boy." That one comment summarized the feelings of the entire group. So, if you're looking for some of Pensacola's best Cajun cuisine- Hit Jerry's Cajun. if your a fan of contemp. american food...i.e. not very diverse, subs. herbs and spices to cover the actual taste of the food, not compliment it, and either fries or overly grills the food....then this place is for you. the price is alright but the food did not impress me what so ever! even i could make better tasting food similar to what they serve here in my kitchen! very skimpy on the shrimp po'boys and the rest of the sandwich menu. (when the bread cover more than whats in it...i have a problem with that!)
