Jerry D's is a deceptively spacious and nice restaurant at the corner of Harford and Taylor. From the outside it looks a little dull but inside is warm and inviting with a bright and cheery wood interior. The restaurant is narrow but very deep and also has an upstairs seating and bar area. Upstairs feels particularly cramped, especially if you have a large group.
The menu is pretty standard but very diverse. I was delighted to see a Taylor pork roll sandwich on the menu which has become a rare sight these days, outside of Jersey. One thing worth mentioning is the VERY reasonable pricing. A hearty club sandwich at dinner was only $6 and a 4.5 oz crabcake was, if I remember correctly, $7.50. Not bad at all. Food quality, however, isn't anything great. Fake mashed potatoes but with delicious gravy. Standard thick cut frozen french fries, typical wheat or white bread sandwiches piled high with deli meat turkey and ham. Nothing special but a good deal for the low price and amount of food they serve you.
On weekend nights they have live music which is a nice draw, though the crowd is a bit older. The main listening area is very open so it's easy to get a good seat to check the band out and even room enough for dancing. I think I'd be more inclined to go to Jerry D's to see a band and only really order food if I happened to be hungry while there. Probably wouldn't be my first choice for dinner, however.
