The only place I've stayed in whilst in Jerome for my last two visits.

Not cheap but the views are fantastic (If you get the balcony side - otherwise you're staring at a hillside!). The place amazes me that it can be 110F outside but you walk in an the temperature drops even though there's no obvious AC. The thick (and I mean thick!) concrete has a chilling effect and the rooms still have the original plumbing fixtures. You can tell it used to be a hospital and I like that eerie feeling that you get that you know this place has seen things that no ordinary hotel has!

As another reviewer said, don't expect a Best Western but do expect a treat! If I could afford it, I'd probably live there.

Spent the night here with a couple of girlfriends back in March '08.  Thin walls between bathroom and bedroom.  Don't bother spending the extra $15 for "mountainview," or your view may just be a wall of rock blocking your window.  Thought we'd get a tour of the haunted rooms, but there really isn't one available.  The b/w 13-inch TV playing a never-ending loop of Jerome history, which includes a segment on Jerome Grand Hotel, will have to suffice.  Free "continental breakfast" (packaged danishes, plain bagels, and cream cheese) and coffee is available (good enough for my friends; I went to Mile High Grill, instead).

All this for $205 a night, off-peak, and I even used my AAA discount!

This review is only for the hotel as an attraction.  We did not dine or stay at the Jerome Grand Hotel.  This being reviewed as a tourist attraction.

While on our Pink Jeep Tour our guide highly suggest that we come to check out Jerome.  He said its a funky little hill side town that has a lot of history and that the Jerome Grand Hotel use to be mental institution.  So we made the 45 minute drive out to check it out.  It was cool to see the town and the old building.

I still dint understand why the would build such a large town and a mental institution on the side of a mountain?

It was fun and interesting and worth the drive.

I definitely liked this place. It is not 5 stars by any means. Rooms are nice and clean. Some cute antique pieces. Staff was friendly . Our room was # 36. We had a balcony room over looking the verde valley. If you are able. Please try for a balcony Room. Beautiful views and breezes. Our room was a bit pricey @ $160 plus tax. Most of these ghost town/haunted hotels are priced a bit higher. We were lucky that a storm was rolling in as we arrived. We had a front row seat for the action. Storm never reached us but you could see it in all directions. Made for some awesome photos. We spent a good portion of our evening on the balcony and felt very peaceful and relaxed here. It is said to be haunted but we felt nothing but peace. That is until about 1 am and the wanna be ghost hunters across from us decided to go "hunting." The walls are thin being an old building. They should consider doing something about that.I was up alllll night! It is my fault. I should have complained to the desk. Instead I took it out on the ones making the racket. One of the hunters said he was "thrown" by something. I told him if he was it was the ghost telling him he was an a** for keeping me up all  night. That Or my anger was projecting my energy. All in all I would still go back. Next time I will be on that phone. There is a continental breakfast. Bagels and sara lee pastries and coffee. We opted to go out for a traditional breakfast. When I am on vacation I wanna eat! We will definitely go back

DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU ARE EXPECTING A BEST WESTERN!!!!

When we came into the lobby to check in a young hipster/pseudo biker/lake pleasant type couple were at the desk asking about rooms.  Their main questions revolved around: 1. availability (they asked about 3 different weekends in October when every single time the guy behind the desk told them October was booked)  2. What kind of cable service is provided and 3. if Fox news was available.

WTF??

Stay at the Jerome Grand Hotel for the view, history, or just the cool ass experience, honestly if you spend any time in the room (besides sleeping off the party at the spirit room) you're doing something wrong!  Hands down best place to stay in Jerome, regrettably, no free breakfast, but awesome coffee and snacks in the AM.  We are going back next month for more!

Oh man remember when this place was abandoned? I heard so many stories of people hiking near the hotel (when it was a hospital) and seeing the ghosts of doctors in windows. I have always been fascinated by this place.

Now it's a hotel. I haven't stayed here ever although I would love to after all the ghost sightings. The last time I visited I was in the gift shop and the clerk was telling me about how the old padlocks were for the patients so the doctors could keep them locked up. Silly rabbit.

I think this is the best place to stay the night in AZ. If at all possible get a room on the top floor overlooking the Verde Valley. It is an amazing view.

I have stayed here twice, and never seen a ghost. Maybe I was here at the wrong time, but I am sure they are present ;)

Grab a six-pack and sit on the balcony. It is a view that should not be missed. And the old elevator is cool too.

The view from the Grand Hotel (inside and out) is amazing and worth at least one stay for that alone. The rooms themselves are nothing very special: the bed was comfortable, but the TV was fuzzy, the carpet and furniture was pretty shabby, but there were some nice touches (a dish of candy, decent toiletry items).

Be forewarned: some rooms have tubs and some do not (only showers), some have swamp coolers, and some do not (so be sure to ask if these things are important to you), there is no hairdryer or coffeemaker in the room. There is some brown water, er... I mean "coffee" available in the lobby. The old elevator is super cool. The gift shop is a conglomeration of items you will see in other stores in Jerome. If you are unfamiliar with the history of Jerome, then the video that plays in continuous loop on one of the TV channels is worth watching.

The biggest problem we had was with the staff, who claimed to have made a reservation for my in-laws months ago for a package deal with the train that takes you through the Verde Valley. When they checked in, the staff "looked up" the "reservation" and said our tickets were waiting for us at the train depot. When we arrived at the depot, we discovered this was a lie. We were fortunate that 2 couples no-showed, so we were able to get on the train anyway (which I highly recommend, by the way), but this kind of problem with a package they offer all the time is just not acceptable.

As far as the ghosts are concerned, I am a believer and usually sensitive to such phenomena. I did not have any paranormal experiences either night we were there. I did overhear some other guests saying that one afternoon, they returned to their room on an upper floor only to discover every drawer of every piece of furniture in the hallway was hanging open, the fire extinguisher was out of its holder and on top of a piece of furniture, and the vase of flowers that had previously been in that spot was now where the fire extinguisher should have been.

The Asylum restaurant at the Grand Hotel is overrated and overly pricey (I've eaten there twice). We frankly had a better meal at Grapes (my in-laws ate there 3 times in 4 days). Mile High had a great breakfast (try the cibatta french toast or the breakfast chimi). The Haunted Hamburger is pretty tasty (a bit more extensive menu than typical bar fare).
