I don't know where to begin! Everything they do is AMAZING! The staff is ridiculously great! Dr. Velasco and his staff are really down to earth, fun, understanding and professional. It quite funny, I feels like I'm part of their office, no joke.

The procedures are beyond my expectations. I'm usually nervous when going to the dentist. They are especially careful when it comes to the metal pick that usually stabs you in the gums and makes you bleed everywhere. I rarely ever get snagged when I get my teeth cleaned here and I love it. When you come to Dr. Velascos they'll take care of you.

I just had my mid-year check-up, and I cannot wait for my October check-up!  See you guys in a few months!

Initially heard 'bout this office via a friend.  Gave a called and asked about their methods of teeth cleaning.  I was very specific as i was interested in Microabrasion teeth cleaning with a bit of teeth scaling.  I called and the receptionist confirmed that Microabrasion was offered.  i made the appointment.  i came in waited and was helped by a very friendly staff.  I went in to see the hygienist and so began the dreaded ordeal of the cleaning of the teeth.  No Microabrasion was used or offered.
Afterwards i reluctantly made a 6 week appointment to have my teeth cleaned again.
Before i confirmed the appointment i told the receptionist of my frustrations with not having the Microabrasion procedure on my last appointment.  She said that i have to ask the hygienist for it when i see her. (Okay)  So i accepted an appointment at 8:00 am.  on my way there i received a call around 7:46 am stating that the hygienist will be 30 minutes late.  I canceled my appointment jump on the train for work.  WOuld you scheduled another appointment?

Incredible staff. I'm not a huge fan of going to the dentist, but who is? I'm now friends with those who work here and have told them stories I wouldn't normally tell a dentist or dental assistant. The best experience I had was my first visit. They opened the windows that faced Union Square and I had a nice scenic cleaning.

They are especially careful when it comes to the metal pick that usually stabs you in the gums and makes you bleed everywhere. I rarely ever get snagged when I get my teeth cleaned here and I love it. See you guys in a few months!

I may be a new patient, but I feel like I've known Dr. Velasco for a long time! I'm certain many of his patients would agree that he's the best dentist around.

Every aspect of his practice is stellar:

-Thorough service: I've only needed to come in for bi-annual cleanings, but every time I've experienced prompt service and a great cleaning job.

-Convenient and accommodating: His location is perfect for anyone that works downtown or wants to stop in for a quick visit during a Union Square shopping trip. Scheduling an appointment is quick and easy, plus they give you the option to receive a text message reminder when your appointment is coming up!

-Friendly and professional: Dr. Velasco and his staff are a family. They want you to feel comfortable during your visit, because they understand that dental trips may not be everyone's favorite pastime.

    -Amazing staff!
    -Clean, cozy, and lively office

I've recommended Dr. Velasco to everyone new to the city. Some people find it difficult to believe healthcare/dental yelp reviews until they experience the service themselves, but believe me - you won't regret going with Jeremy.

Yet another 5 star review for Dr. Velasco!

When I started a new job in a new city (SF) I asked co-workers for ideas on dentists and one suggested Dr. Velasco. Great advise!

He and his staff were nothing but friendly and professional in the nearly 4 years I went there. They even hand out a little bag with a new toothbrush and toothpaste when you leave -- how wonderfully old school!

Once I had no more dental insurance he even cleaned my teeth for free. What a nice guy! When I started on another plan and had to go to another dentist I went back to him and got a nightguard because of the great service there.

One downside is technology. Other dentists have switched to digital x-rays which I hope they do soon. Otherwise I am anxious to return when I get dental insurance that works with his office.

I've been going to Dr. Velasco's for over 10 years now.  The first time I went I hadn't seen a dentist in 15 years so it was a pretty grim situation.  He didn't guilt me for my horrible habits but just laid out that it wasn't the end of the world and if I changed my wayward ways things would get better... and they did.  Haven't had a cavity since.

No matter how bad your dental situation is, Jeremy will make it all better.  No joke.

I have my two front teeth, so all I want for Christmas is to keep them healthy and white.

I am one of those dentiphobes, if that's even a word. I've kind of bopped around from dentists because my work changes its dental insurance every year.  Near the end of college I found a great dentist in Oakland (need to yelp her.) When I became gainfully employed, she was not on the plan. Next year she was, so I returned. Well, guess what? Next year, new plan, no dentist! Determined not to go postal at work, I did some investigative work between Delta Dental's guide and cross referenced with Yelp, and soon found Dr. Velasco.

I love him! I love Yelp! I love dental insurance!

I miss my other dentist, but Dr. Velasco is so close to work, his office staff are friendly, he's funny and personable, and he has all the attributes of someone you'd want poking around your mouth.

Now all I need in my stocking is continued willpower to floss twice a day and a promise from my employer that they'll stick with this dental plan, with a bow on top.

I've had a fear of dentists for years, dating back to some really bad experiences with my orthodontist and braces.  I'm more paranoid about bad things happening to my teeth though, so I go in regularly for cleaning, checkups, brush two to three times a day, floss, etc.  But when it does come to getting a dentist, I am extremely careful and picky about who I get.  I want a dentist that acknowledges my fears and concerns and works to alleviate them, not aggravate them.  I've had many of the latter in the past.  It surprises me that I'm still willing to go to a dentist honestly.

Yelp searches and reviews led me to Dr. Velasco.  When I went in for my first appointment, I was very clear with my fears and concerns, as well as some of my past experiences.  I also explained to him some of the issues I have with my teeth (extreme sensitivity in some areas, worn enamel, etc).  Not only is Dr Velasco very careful with me, he communicated with his hygienists about it and every one of them has been careful and gentle with me.  They clarify when they come in that they've read or been told about my sensitivity, they ask which teeth are the worst for it, and are very cautious when they approach my bad areas.  They also are very aware of my body language and stop the second I jerk or lift my hand.  I can honestly say that the times I've had to stop them because they've touched a sensitive area has been at most twice in 2.5 years.

It's been a long time since I've had such an amazing dentist who is so considerate and thoughtful.  He doesn't push unnecessary procedures either... at my last appointment, he commented that we'd been watching a spot underneath an old filling for a year, and he was thinking it was time to just remove the filling and check it out and fix it.  I warned him that the only way I would go through it is if I had tranquilizers beforehand, something I was ok with doing, I just had to warn him ahead of time.  He paused, and then said that if it was going to be such an ordeal just to "check it out", then we could put it off again for at least another six months instead of unnecessarily medicating me to fix something that's a concern but hasn't been causing any damage.

I cannot give this dentist enough stars to express how amazing and awesome he is.  Highly recommended if you're the type that needs a doctor that's sensitive to your fears and needs!

I actually found Dr. Velasco on Yelp over a year ago when I was looking for a new dentist in San Francisco. I'm usually skeptical of health professional reviews on here, but with the number of great reviews on Yelp for Dr. Velasco, I felt good about taking a chance...

It definitely worked out. I just got back from my third cleaning at Dr. Velasco's office, and (strangely) I'm in a great mood. Everyone at the office is extremely nice, very laid-back, and great at explaining everything from insurance, to the pros and cons of a specific procedure.

I stand firmly behind this 5-star review. If you're looking for a new dentist or a second opinion (which is why I turned to Yelp initially to find a new dentist in San Francisco), definitely consider Dr. Velasco. I used to dread trips to the dentist, but now look forward to them - be proud of your pearlie whites!

I have been going to Dr. Velasco twice a year for EIGHT YEARS!!! I think it's the longest commitment I've ever been in.

What keeps me going back is him and his teams positive, charismatic and professional attitude. They are always pleasant and seem to remember every detail of my life from the last visit (I don't care if it's written down in that folder of theirs). I feel like I've just spent my lunch hour chatting with friends then sitting in a dentist chair drooling from the corner of my mouth.

His office is small-there's only about 5 people working there at one time. Which is my second reason for always going back. You can tell they're like a family there and treat their patients the same!

Very friendly and professional staff. I liked that they had their "new patient" forms online so you can have them all filled out when you get there. Dr. Velasco was very personable and professional. I believe Beverly was my dental hygenist. She did a wonderful job getting my teeth super clean. She did not rush and really seemed to care about my teeth. I was lucky in the fact that even though I hadn't had a cleaning in over 2 years (yeah, I know I'm gross), I did not have any cavities.

I have to say this has been my second best dentist experience as an adult so far. I will try to keep Dr.Velasco as my dentist as long as I live in SF.

I LOVE going to the dentist!

How often do you say that?!?!

Dr. Velasco is confident, extremely thorough, and has somehow managed to get me to floss (willingly) twice a day! He is all about flossing! After listening to his reasoning's, I now fully understand. "Brushing and flossing go hand in hand." :) He is delightful and full of good energy.

They do have Saturday availability. They work around your availability. I have been three times with each appointment around 40 minutes. Out of pocket costs are kept to a minimum if you do not have dental coverage.  All of the assistants are lovely as well!

***I highly recommend Dr. Velasco! ***

Being so attached to my dentist in SoCal made the move to SF even more difficult. I knew I would still go down for my Invisalign  treatment (which was already paid for), but I needed to find someone up here for my cleaning and emergencies. Thanks to Yelp I found Dr Velasco! :-)

I have been to his office over 6 times now. It's a no-frills office, but I love how friendly the atmosphere is. The staff is SUPER sweet and helpful and you feel like you go there everyday.

I went there on Tuesday afternoon before the Yelp event. I was promptly taken to my seat as soon as I got there, and Hannika, the hygienist, started my cleaning. 15 minutes later, to my surprise, Dr Velasco came in to examine my teeth "because he hadn't done so since August". The man is SO personable! I was impressed as he pronounced my name perfectly, although he hadn't seen me for 7 months! Little touches that make you feel like home!

I got the rest of my cleaning done and was out of there almost an hour later. I am very OCD about my teeth cleaning, but I have to say that his hygienists always have done a fabulous job on being very thorough and careful. I look forward to getting my teeth cleaned these days!

It all goes back to kindness and love. You can tell that Dr. Velasco loves what he does! He and his staff treats you with respect, answers  all of your questions and makes you forget all the other cold and unfriendly places you have been before. I kinda dig that! :-)

let me spit a review for y'all I wrote, almost 2 years ago...

TWO YEARS AGO, I found this amazing dentist who was really cool and very professional.  He didn't make any wisecracks about the amount of cavity and buildup I had in my mouth... so I was totally at ease when he busted out the "CAVITRON" to break up the plaque.  I thought, "DANG it's THAT BAD?". Yes, it was THAT bad that the cleaning took twice the average time.  Can you just imagine how embarrassed I was about the gravity of my dental non-hygiene?  My mouth felt soo roomy afterwards.  That was the cleanest cleaning I ever had (as in... not a lot of blood and particles spewing all over my face).  If you ever read this Dr. Velasco--I FLOSS NOW (so hopefully you don't have to take the CAVITRON out!)

Then they took like 18 X-rays of my teeth.  That was no fun, but I guess it was necessary since I did not have any previous dental records.  Yes! --this was very useful since we live in San Francisco... so JUST IN CASE, my body will now be identified through my dental records!

I feel bad because I canceled my morning appointment, then later changed my mind to have it done in the afternoon.  He and his staff were cool enough to squeeze me in on the last minute (though be warned, last-minute cancellations is subject to some sort of fine... which they waived for me coz it was my first visit and maybe because they sympathized with me being drenched from the rain).
    ------

TWO YEARS LATER, I've been back for the 4th time for my regular cleaning.  Since I've been flossing more, he hasn't had too much trouble cleaning my teeth.  He exclaimed that I have "great teeth, but you salivate too much" (*suction* *suction*).   Supposedly, producing too mats saliva can render me more susceptible to building plaque because it contains dissolved minerals that could build up on my teef.  I just have to make sure I pay more attention to my lower back teeth, which are located closest to major salivary glands.  He tells me also that some dentists give pills to people with overactive salivary glands to minimize salivation, but he doesn't roll like that.  Uhm, it's okay.

    I prefer spittin' anyway.

As you get older, the list of things to take care of seems to get longer and longer.

While on my family's health insurance, I was always hounded by my parents to get my regular checkups and visit my dentist but did I? Nope.

However, now that my health is completely on my hands, I have had to really make an effort to stay on par. Luckily, YELP has been by my side!

Needed to find a dentist close to my office, and within a minute was able to find Dr. Velasco. They were able to squeeze me in within a week, and my trip there was a cake walk.

I am not a fan of the dentist usually. Cotton balls are NOT supposed to be in a human's mouth. There's nothing I hate more than the feeling of cotton wads in your mouth and having a dentist ask you, "So, what's up?"

Dr. Velasco and his team were great though. Courteous, fast and made sure I was taken care of and able to get back to work in a hurry.

I am the queen of procrastination.  Trust me on this --- I OWN that crown.

I am especially good at putting off visits to various medical professionals.  I usually wait until catastrophe rains down and then scurry to the appropriate specialist for assistance and succor.  So when I unexpectedly cracked a tooth last week I took it as a sign that it might, possibly, after a few years here in the fair city, be time to find a dentist.

I of course turned to Yelp for assistance.  After a truly nasty experience over the weekend with another dental office I called Dr Jeremy Velasco's office.  From the moment his staff answered the phone I knew I was in good hands.  Sukiko was able to fit me in on the day I requested (no mean feat when I was giving less than 48 hours notice) and she made me feel as if I was valued and needed --- and I hadn't even walked through their doors yet!

Dr. Velasco and his tiny staff were the epitome of friendly professionals.  I felt as if I had been going to this dentist for years instead of being a first-timer.  With such a small office and team it could get chaotic, but they have obviously developed an efficient and smooth routine that allows for paperwork, chitchat, full mouth X-rays, cavity checks, a new filling and taking a picture --- all in about an hour.  And Dr. Velasco saw another patient in that time too!  It all makes sense when I discovered that his staff has been with him since the practice first opened 9 years ago.  That says a lot.

So yes, I will be going back...and yes, I will be going back SOON.  I promise.  Really.  Don't give me that look.

    UPDATE: 7/27/07
Having been a patient of Dr Velasco's now for six months, I can safely say it is not a fluke.  He's fantastic!  And if you haven't jumped on his train...hurry!  He's getting really busy.

I've never had a problem with dentists but I know a good dental practice when I see one. It's been a while since I've had an annual exam and my teeth cleaning, so I was expecting some critical feedback.

The assistant working on my teeth took the time to explain the process instead of just going through the typical, monotonous routine of open, open wider and hold still. I wasn't belittled for the amount of time spent to clean my teeth since it was pretty bad.

If you plan on going here make sure your insurance accepts them. They accept all PPO plans which means using the dental plan provided by your employer. If you're using an individual plan, 99% of the time it's an HMO. The only individual PPO plan that I've come across is through Blue Cross.  Delta Dental is accepted as long as it's PPO but the one from Costco isn't since it's a HMO plan. I found this out the hard way.

Taking public transit here isn't an issue but if you plan on driving I recommend the following garages in order from lowest price to highest for the first hour: Sutter-Stockton ($2.00), Ellis-'O Farrel ($2.50), and Union Street ($3.00 and the closest). Verify the price hasn't changed before you decide on a garage.

Well, with all these 5 star reviews must be he's an amazing dentist. But if his office won't return my calls, there's no way I can add to them.

I called two weeks ago and spoke to one of the admin staff. She was on another call and asked if she could call me back in 5 minutes. I waited 5 days. I thought that maybe she's written my number down incorrectly so I called again. This time there was no response (I called during normal business hours) so I left a message asking for a callback. I slowly said my number twice. No callback.

My final attempt was about a week ago. Again I left a message (even though I called during normal hours) and again left my number twice and said it very slowly.  Still no callback.

Dr. Velasco may be a wonderful dentist but the staff are letting him down and I have to be the bad guy who gives him his first less than stellar review. Why do I feel guilty about this?

Dr. Velasco is an awesome dentist, and I feel very confident in highly recommending him to anyone currently looking for an excellent dentist.  I've seen Dr. Velasco and his staff a total of three times now, and every aspect of my appointments has been superb:

+ Teeth cleaning: Thorough and clean!  The first two times I went, two of his assistants/dental hygienists cleaned my teeth, and the third time, Dr. Velasco did it himself.  I could tell they did a good job because in the past, my gums used to bleed when I brushed, but after seeing Dr. Velasco and his staff, they don't bleed anymore.  Awesome.

+ Good referrals: I needed to get a wisdom tooth extraction, and Dr. Velasco referred me to this awesome oral surgeon, and I had the most painless and quick recovery ever. (save for the initial night).

+ Great staff: As mentioned before, his staff, ranging from receptionist Merlette to the dental hygienists, is excellent.  Bev and Hanukkah (sorry, I know I'm butchering the spelling, but her name's pronounced like the holiday) were both competent, thorough, and friendly.  Merlette's also always able to find you 8AM appointments so you can get to work on time.  Very accommodating!

+ Excellent schwag: With every appointment, you get toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss to take home.  And I just have to mention: THE FLOSS IS BOMB.  Reach Dentotape!  I have not been able to find it ANYWHERE in stores!  That stuff is so thick and awesome, it's like the fattest piece of string I've ever had the pleasure of using, and it cleans all the junk out of your mouth! And yes, Dr. Velasco gives you a box each time!  Awesome.

+ Affordable: They take Delta Dental insurance!  Woot!  Free cleanings!  And for procedures that aren't covered, the rates are reasonable.

In addition to all those things, Dr. Velasco himself, and his entire staff, really, have great bedside manner, and I feel comfortable talking to them.  They're also great at educating you on not only proper oral hygiene, but also fun little facts like how to gleep (apparently, it's when you shoot spit out of your mouth by putting force on the salivary glands under your tongue! who knew?)!

Great dental experiences here.  This is definitely one of those times where I'm super grateful for the helpful Yelp reviews.

I am in shock over how fantastic this dentist is.

He is so nice.  He makes you feel incredibly comfortable.  And wow, does he know what he's doing.

So, apparently I had some minor stainage due to too much wine-drinking (yes, I had noticed this, and it was driving me insane).  He busted out this sandblasting "jet" (no lie, sand flew everywhere - kind of like microdermabrasion for the teeth) and, presto, perfect and pearly and stain-free.  My mouth has never felt better.

I am actually looking forward to my next cleaning.  Is that crazy or what!

If I could give him 10 stars, I would.

My day did not start so well. First, I lose my MUNI pass, and at 5 minutes before I have to leave, I realize I have no deniro for the bus -- only a $20 bill. After spending 15 minutes emptying pockets, uncovering cushions, and overturning boxes, I piece together $1.50 in change. Then I wait for the 5 Fulton. And wait. And wait. One passes, and it's full. Seeing that my appointment is only 15 minutes away and knowing that I need more time as a new patient, I bite the bullet and walk to Divis to catch a cab. Thus all my last minute scrambling for change was in vain. I arrive 10 minutes late, flushed, hot, and sweaty. The kindly receptionist addressed me by name and handed me the forms to fill out.  Then Dr. Velasco came into the waiting room, introduced himself to me as "Jeremy" and apologized for keeping ME waiting.

Dr. V is young, funny, cool, and jokes around w/you so much you forget why you're there -- scraping, cleaning, and other unpleasantries. My mouth was not in great shape, but he spared me the lecture on dental hygiene -- just a gentle reminder to floss.  I emerged from the chair smiling, despite 18 x-rays and scraping the heck out of my mouth, which it desperately needed.  I appreciate that he does the cleaning himself: it gives him a chance to do really look and see what's going on and develop a patient-doctor relationship.

This is the dental practice where everyone knows your name. The hygenist, receptionist, biller, x-ray tech all ask you if you're doing okay, too warm, too cold, etc -- leading me to wonder if I'd stumbled upon a spa instead of a dentist. Hooray for Dr. Velasco and his staff!

I agree with anyone who loves this man- he's the best dentist that I have ever had.  Granted, I have only been to three dentists since the age of four, but he is AMAZING.  After finding him on Yelp and trekking over to Union Square, which is a strange place to go to the dentist, I sat down in that magical dentist chair.  Even though I hadn't been to a dentist in over two years, the man still tells me I have beautiful teeth.  However, as much as I love flattery, it won't buy you a good review.

My satisfaction stemmed from his extraordinary attention to detail and friendliness.  Honestly, he didn't have to be that nice- he's just that good.  But, he was.  And, how often does one come across a dentist that does the hygienist stuff himself?

My teeth left the office shiny and pretty, and attached to them was one happy customer.

I'd give this man 6 stars if I could.

Went here based on the Yelp reviews, they are right on.

I went to a dentist early in the week after avoiding finding a dentist for the 18 months since I've moved to San Francisco.  He said I needed 6 fillings and a wisdom tooth extraction.  They were not in my insurance network and the total cost would have been $1,100 out of my pocket.  No thanks.

I called Dr. Velasco and they scheduled me for an exam/consultation a day later and the experience was excellent.  The staff is friendly and Dr. Velasco spent tons of time with me and was happy to answer any questions.

Best part: he had trouble seeing the details on the digital x-rays sent from my previous dentist, so he took new ones AND DIDN'T CHARGE ME for them.

He also only found 3 cavities, which are covered by my insurance.  Total savings = a lot.

If you've been putting off going to the dentist, go to Dr. Velasco.

My old dentist dropped the ball, got too busy water skiing and buying timeshares in Costa Rica - or whatever dentists do with their 'free time'/ disposable income - and forgot about me...so before my teeth started falling out, i turned to Yelp to try to locate a new dental professional in SF...i was a little sketch, as it was the first time i'd ever relied on this goofy website for anything semi-important (like personal health/ hygiene).

When I arrived for my appointment, he had the Oakland A's game on the radio, playing throughout the office.  Turns out the guy's a season ticket holder for a long time - and he even turned the volume of the radio UP so I could hear it over the noise he was making cleaning my teeth...

He was finishing up as the rookie Suzuki came to bat in the 10th, and he stopped what he was doing so we both could listen to the walk-off call.  We both exchanged a knuckle bump before i rinsed and paid up...

Pretty much the best dental experience I've ever had by a long shot.

Needless to say, I'm sold.  This guy is my new dentist.

I completely agree with Susan!  This is a super friendly office.  Dr Velasco, or Jeremy, mentioned all of  his collegues by name and spoke highly of them all.  He really enjoys what he does and is very helpful.  He doesn't ever make you feel bad for things like not flossing (man I hate flossing).  He's also very gentle, even when he warns you that it might not be gentle anymore (which I thought was awesome).

He likes to chat and talk about his daughter, she's got a little shrine as you walk in the door.  Also, they take photos of new clients so that they can remember your face!
    I recommend him.
He has a website as well...www.onlinesmiles.com

I'm shocked to see I haven't written a review yet.

My boyfriend found Dr.Velasco on Yelp, went for a cleaning, had a great experience, and then recommended him to me.

I went for my first cleaning, and then again six months later and also had a great experience - friendly, on time, clean, convenient, etc etc.

Then, this weekend I was stupid and chipped/broke my front tooth. I emailed Dr. Velasco Sunday evening asking if there was any way I could come in on Monday morning. They got me an appointment for 8:45 Monday morning - I was done & all fixed by 9am. It didn't feel rushed at all, he just knew what he needed to do, did it, and then was finished. Quick, friendly, and a job well done!

Glad to meet Dr. Velasco for the first time today...I visit my dentist religiously (my mother is a dentist), and moved to SF 5 months ago... so it was time.  Dr. V was friendly, conversational, and professional...he did a thorough cleaning job, and checked to make sure I was comfortable several times throughout the process.

I didn't bring my insurance card...his staff handled this with elan, looking up my number on-line, and then by phone.  Friendly service, competent dentist, and a clean, comfortable office. Thanks Dr. Velasco!

    Dirty mouth?  Chew Ortbitz gum?

    No, visit Dr. Jeremy Velasco.

I visited Dr. Velasco right after getting my braces off with a lesser, more unprofessional office (in keeping with the Orbitz theme let's call my old dentist Dr. Stinky Mc Stinkface.)  So it was definitely a breath of fresh air dealing with an office as kind, courteous and professional as Dr. V's.

From the first phone call to the actual visit  itself; his staff was genuinely kind, sweet and accommodating.  I barely broke open my magazine and they were already calling on me to start my cleaning.  I commented on the nice-ish view and the doctor quipped "Ya, through the chicken wire glass" in a professional, yet friendly manner.  On top of being very knowledgeable, he's quite a nice, funny guy.

Upon my exit, he surprised me with a goodie bag including a toothbrush, floss, toothpaste and the like.

I strongly recommend visiting Dr. Velasco, I guarantee he'll make you smile.

I haven't visted the dentist in over 5 years.  I've been hesitant since I had a feeling bad news was coming.  I've got dental insurance so I figured I might as well use it.  Yelp comes in to save the day...

I decided to go with Dr. Velasco and let me say that it was an excellent choice.  The vibe of the office was very calm and relaxed.  I felt very welcomed as soon as I walked in.  I like the location of his office, offering a nice view of the other buildings in the area, and it's close proximity to public transport.

Dr. V is very knowledgable, friendly, and professional.  He really knows how to break the ice and connect with his patients.  He takes to time to explain what he's doing with what instrument and it's purpose.  There were no surprises when during my checkup which was great.  His staff is also very friendly and helpful too, showing me new brushing and flossing techniques (I learned something new!).  I was fortunate enough to not have any cavaties, but I feel like I'll be changing my brushing habits thanks to Dr. V.

I'd recommend Dr. V to anybody who's looking for a good dentist in the city.  Bring the kids too!

I've been coming here for the past 1.5 years. I just went in for a clean up and Dr. Velasco wasn't there. I was introduced to his replacement doctor who was very nice and sweet because Jeremy was in the Philippines.

I haven't had any issue with medical treatment here but I do have an issue with changing my doctor without letting me know and giving me a chance to say no. They also forgot to call me for my appointment till the day of. Sounds like Dr. V needs to be in the house to keep the ship sailing straight.

Dr. Velasco is extremely friendly and personable. He loves to talk to you while he's cleaning your teeth, which makes it quite difficult to uphold your end of the conversation, but somehow he understands every "ahh" and "uh huu" you say! There was no problem getting an appointment and they accept Delta dental insurance. His staff is also great and makes you feel comfortable the moment you walk in the door.

Update: I had my 6 month check-up and am excited as ever to bump Dr. Velasco up from 4 to 5 stars (i just had to be sure). He ran out of toothbrushes, which he was REALLY upset about, but made up for it by giving me 2, count em, 2 things of floss!

I hate to rant because Dr. Velasco is a nice friendly guy but I just really hate poor customer service.

I was scheduled for teeth cleaning on Saturday, Dec 5th bright and early at 8 AM.  It was scheduled three months prior and was confirmed.  I was at his office in the city at 755 AM.  The lady dentist who greeted me told me to take a seat after I told her I had an appointment at 8AM.  After like five minutes, she said something like,  "I'm sorry but would you like to reschedule because Dr. Velasco is not in this morning?  He has a family emergency."

I just don't understand why patients are penalized if they don't show up for an appointment but if it's the dentist who can't make it then it's perfectly fine.  A phone call would have been nice to tell me that there was a problem and Dr. Velasco couldn't be in but I didn't get any.  If they have great customer service, they would have offered me some form of compensation for screwing up but sadly, they did not. They only offered after I spoke with them the week following what happened.

A big part of customer loyalty is excellent customer service and sadly, Dr. Velasco does not seem to realize this.  So sad.

I'm generally not a fan of any dentist - let's face it, getting your teeth scraped is about as exciting an experience as waiting in line at the DMV. That said, everyone in Dr. Velasco's office is helpful, cheerful, willing to explain things to you, and they're non-judgmental (I don't floss. I hate flossing. I know I should floss. Some dentists have acted like this is a war crime, but the staff here work with you to find something that WILL work, and I appreciate that.)

I haven't had any experience with anything more than a routine cleaning, but Dr. Velasco seems very capable and knowledgable, so if I did need some work done, I wouldn't feel uncomfortable going here.

Definitely worth it if he's on your plan.

I've been Dr. Velasco's patient for around four years. He's warm, open, and friendly, and you don't feel that weird "I am a DOCTOR and you are a patient" feeling that so many other doctors give off. Dr. Velasco explains your options to you, he runs on time, and if your teeth are in good shape and you're getting a regular 6-month cleaning you're in and out in an hour!  Park in the lot underneath Union Square or take the MUNI or BART to Powell St station and walk up Powell to Post. You can also take the cable car up Powell and hop off at Post if you're really opposed to walking.

I've referred many friends and co-workers to him; whenever someone says they have a toothache or they're scared of the dentist or it's been sooo long since they've been to a dentist, I always give them Dr. Velasco's card and say, "He's the best dentist I've ever had." Everyone I've referred has had a good experience!

The assistants, hygienists, and Sakiko the office manager are similarly friendly and awesome, and the office is clean and sort of beachy feeling, in a building ten feet above Union Square.

Dr. Velasco and staff have taken my teeth from clean and healthy to really beautiful-- gradually, as each of my fillings needed to be replaced, since they've been there since childhood, he changed them to the composite (white) type of fillings that match the teeth. Once all my fillings had been replaced, I got Zoom! whitening, which was done by Ling, one of the dental assistants. She is awesome, and the Zoom! process was easy. I watched a movie while it was being done. Before, my teeth were nice, they were healthy, they're for chewing, whatever. Now, I love my teeth!  But you have to ask for these cosmetic things, if you want them, because Dr. Velasco does not try to upsell his patients. "Healthy teeth are beautiful teeth, " he says, "That's the important thing."
