One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
When it gets cold instead of picturing a tropical beach somewhere (since I have really NEVER been on vacation) I think of summer afternoons dancing at Jelly's. Eating Cuban barbeque, having a few drinks, and dancing until the sun sets.
It is crowded though so the last time I came I was pregnant and didn't go back. Had to stick to venues that could accomodate my growing belly, my son didn't enjoy elbows to his head in utero. But next summer? It's on. Save me a spot in line at the bathroom, ladies...
Ah, Jelly's... I cannot stress how much fun you are on a Sunday. SUCH a great crowd, and it seems like a pretty good girl:guy ratio (I think I was only sitting for one song during the 4 hours I was there the last time). People are really friendly, and it's a pretty good mix of dancers so don't be too scurred if you're just starting out. It's also salsa during the sunset because of the earlier hours, and that's hard to beat!
Drink recommendation: the mojito! Very delish though a tad sweet, the mint is usually quite fresh and the drink is a great choice for a warm day.
Dress code: pretty mixed as it is a Sunday afternoon/evening. A few are seriously dressed to impress, but denim is relatively plentiful. Don't wear your brand-spanking new leather-soled dance shoes if you're planning on dancing outside, however; the pavement takes no prisoners.
I want to give this a higher rating, but sadly it would violate my only-one-bathroom-stall-in-an-alcohol-establishmen t-equals-one-less-star rule; visit the facilities early, ladies!
I wish I'd had more time on the Sunday afternoon I was in the area on business. Jelly's is on what seems to be a road with few neighbors by the water near the ballpark. There's plenty of parking, and the place was already packed. It's hard to find these kinds of places, and while there was a cover, I feel like it was worth it.
The setting is great! Salsa on the outside patio by the water? Nice! The music was being played by someone who actually knew something about salsa, which was nice for a change. People seemed to be having a good time, and they were pretty friendly, considering I was alone. Worth a return visit!
I really don't want to 'out' this venue because it's such a treasure. But I have to give a 5-star raving review for this place. Maybe I had such a great time because it was my first salsa dancing experience or because my date knew how to throw down the moves. But needless to say, I left here on cloud 9.
I went to Jelly's for the first time recently before the 3rd game of the Giants vs. Dodgers game. The only time I would ever go here would probably be before a game when I park in the lot.
Chill place. The music at 11 am didn't match the vibe, it was some R&B slow songs. But the place was clean, my drink came fast, and the patio was nice and sunny. A great place to grab a brew before the game.
Dude, this place has been in my 'hood for a while and I'm JUST getting over there for brunch?! We went for breakfast after finishing a 10K and it was the perfect post-run stop. There's an outdoor seating area with lots of tables, friendly service, awesome food, and coffee that comes in your own individual carafe. It was so cute that I wanted to buy it off of them. Everything comes with beans and fresh pico de gallo on top and it's yums! My friend had their chorizo omelette and really liked it. Another had huevos rancheros that looked really tasty too. I couldn't help have food envy even though my two eggs and bacon was oh so satisfying. Their bacon is cooked perfectly...mmm...*drool*...
The patio is kid and doggie friendly so I think we'll be back again soon. It's a great place to stop for brunch on a Saturday morning before a Giants game or after a walk along the water.
Decided to try this place out for Sunday brunch...
Ambiance: Eek! Methinks not.
Service: Meh. I've experienced better.
Food: Meh. I've experienced better.
I love Jelly's!!
$10 cover
Single bathroom stall for the ladies
Port o Potty outside
Free & Easy Parking
$12 Ribs, Beans & Rice Plates!!!!!
People are here just to get their dance on. . . ok there are some dudes scoping out the singles scene. . . but mainly there for the music! I met some cool dudes there with some great moves and made it really easy for me to follow! It's like One Love but with Salsa! Don't be shy to ask the guy to dance once in awhile! Because we're all here to learn and get our groove on!
And what a beautiful day to Salsa outside on the patio, too bad the sun doesn't set over the pier! Plates of food being served till the end $12. do I have to recommend the ribs to you again!? YUM

Last night (Sunday) was my first time here, and it was THE MOST FUN I have ever had!! I am totally… Read more »
Cool place, great dancing, lots of energy, but there's this incredibly unpleasant woman who works the door who SHOULD NOT work the door to such a vibrant and amazing place. Definitely killed my high energy for a moment along with my girlfriends'. Then, because it was freezing, I asked if I could step out to grap my jacket out of my truck and she rudely stated that there's no re-entry because the club was soon to close. The club did not close until an hour later.
I recommend this place if you're dressed appropriately (in warm attire if you plan to dance outside), if you really want to SALSA and if you ignore the lady at the door.
This place is cool. Went there on Sunday after 6 pm to listen to some good latin music. The band QBA was pretty good too. The drinks are not the strongest in town. We liked the atmosphere and the people seem very nice. Bring your dancing shoes. This is a place to dance Early sunday's. The place is clean and security is tight.
They serve food out in the patio. The food was weak, but then again this is not a place you come to have dinner.
Net net, the place is fun, they have a cool patio deck looking at lots of ships on tied to the docks.
Remember it is a place to dance and be seen on the floor.
Have fun!!!
Wow!!!! This place is sooooo much fun! Minus one star for the $10 shot of patron and for ending at 9 pm...what!?!
Everything else was amazing! I always make a b-line for the bar when I enter unknown territory and having never done salsa in my life...this qualified. As soon as I finished my drink.....some mysterious man grabbed me by the hand and whisked me onto the dance floor and I danced my ass off!! Whether you are a novice or total professional you'll definitely feel comfortable out there if you at least have some rhythm, because if your partner invited you on the dance floor then they will teach you what to do. I had so much fun and the band was AMAZING!!!! Will definitely be back for more!!!
Fun little spot near the ballpark to get your Sunday afternoon salsa on. Mojitos have waaay too much sugar, but the music's fun and it's pretty laid back. Lots of good dancers, one lame-o one who declined when I asked him to dance and one tasty plate of beans & rice and chicken. Sunday Funday!
I don't know about the salsa and nighttime aspect of this place but I stopped in a couple weekends ago for a bite after the Sunday Streets bike riding thing.
Not familiar with the area, we were unsure when we approached the place if they were serving food or uhh..strippers.
We were welcomed inside (with our bikes!) and walked through to the patio overlooking boats and shit. (there was a bike rack!)
My peers were not hungry so basically watched me eat a giant, amazing burger. Delicious. Good fries and iced tea too I recall.
Waitresses were nice too.
I was taking a friend to brunch for her birthday and this is where she wanted to go. I'd have never picked this place; there are loads of Breakfast/Brunch places higher rated and closer to our neighborhood.
The plusses are that they let you bring your dog if you eat on the deck, there's kind of a view of the bay, and the food is tasty.
The Minuses are that the place is a little dumpy, the prices are a little high, and probably because of the dogs there are bugs.
I don't usually get up early enough for Brunch on Sunday but I'd consider going again someday.
Despite the fatal error of continuously serving flat Guinness beer, I'm raising my rating of this venue. Week after week, it draws such fun dance partners, unique/mixed crowds, and well the outdoor dancing is simply a huge advantage in my books. As one patron put it, "Jelly's is an institution much like Cafe Cocomo use to be when it first opened its doors years ago." (I couldn't have said it better myself).
The crowds here are really great - on a per capita basis, it's my top choice for dance partners. Even on a slow afternoon, this place always guarantees me a fun time (I cannot remember the last time I didn't have a blast here). This place is so popular, that a woman I met recently drives up from Fresno every couple of months just to come here on Sundays (the drive 6-7 hours is longer than the time she spends dancing ~4).
A note to the people standing around - this is a dancers' place; if you want to drink, take your cocktails outside or else don't complain if you get your drink knocked into you by a dancer. Space is extremely limited and coveted and so be prepared to wrestle over real estate here. You have no one else to blame but yourself if you get stepped on either if you are hovering around the dance floor with no intention to dance (either that song, let alone the entire evening).
Ladies, if you don't like the crowding indoors, then I highly recommend bringing shoes comfortable enough for dancing outside.

Jelly's is arguably one of the most popular places to go salsa dancing in all of the Bay Area. It… Read more »
Another company holiday party another review!
Jelly's is close to SoMA and they have a great back patio (not a dive patio and with a great view of the bay). Unfortunately we couldn't really take advantage of the back patio due to the fact that it's winter, but I've got it on my list of places to come back to when the weather is better (maybe next Sept?).
The bar area is small and I hear they have great dancing on Fridays and Saturdays. For the party we had a live band but there wasn't much dancing so I can't comment on what it's like normally.
The food was just okay. We had a lot of hors d'ouevres and nothing really stood out. I did notice they were walking around with tempura battered "cauliflower" that was really broccoli. They put on a buffet for the party but it was almost all portable meat (meatballs, scallops, etc) and it didnt' work so well. The food was more like an afterthought.
The one thing they did really well was dessert. Almond cakes were scrumptious. I think I ate more of those than anything else.
Bar was okay. The bartenders were attentive. Mixed drinks weren't that great though so I would stick to beer, wine or simple tonics.
Bike Parking: impossible!
I love a place that takes pride in the food they serve.
I love that they are on the water and that its industrial.
The large group that was celebrating something in the back seemed to be having a genuinely great time and the service all around was really good.
Fun place for salsa dancing even for a novice like me. Friendly vibe. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself out on the floor a number of times.
Floor is a bit rough, but you can't have everything, right?
Medium-size dance floor inside with room for a hip shaking band, and another dance area outside on the patio - way cooler out there.
I hear the mojitos are good - tho' I didn't have one (had to focus on the steps...)
Sunday Afternoon:
oh man - I hadn't been salsa dancing in a loooong time. I was so ready just to sit on the sidelines, not be asked to dance, but just try to get inspired again. well, not only did i dance a bunch, the band was great and the food was pretty good (not great).
So thank you all you Jellymeisters for asking an old babe to git out there and shake her boooty. I needed it baaaad. and i'll be baaacck.
Like most waterfront venues in the city, Jelly's gets extra props just for being a great place to go when our fair city is blessed with sunshine. And when the music is as good as it was on the 4th of July for the sunset party, they get something of a halo effect as well. Add ample street parking and you have three stars.
The drinks and staff were weak, however, and the fact that there is only one bathroom with one stall is nearly unforgivable. I had to switch to drinking shots for maximum dehydration so I wouldn't have to waste quality dancing time standing in a long line for the loo.
My favorite place to get my salsa fix! I love dancing to a live band and every Sunday it's the place to go!! The party is from 4-9pm and it's a perfect way to end your Sunday without being too tired for work the next day!!
It does get crowded inside sometimes, but I always enjoy the vibe there! For some reason, I have a better time there they any other place I salsa at!!
For a novice salsa dancer, I feel comfortable dancing there! I love it more than Cocomo because Cocomo it's like everyone is a professional and there's a bit of attitude with people there.
I will not lie that it can get crowded at Jelly's and for women there is only one stall in the bathroom, but the drinks aren't too expensive and i love my one bartender-Tyler!! He always remembers my drinks!! Always is friendly and quick!!
But it's always nice that there is an outdoor dance area, too..because in the summer when it's hot, it's nice to dance outside!! Oh, and if you're hungry..they have good food outside, too!!
(Any there is lots of parking in front and all around!)
"I don't see nothing wrong
With a little bump 'n grind"
Mazacote at Jelly's is the perfect combo for raw, sweaty salsa dancing. Cocomo's, GlasKat and Roccapulco can feel calculated with pro and semi-pro dancers. (I confess, I enjoy those dances too.)
However, the energy at Jelly's is REAL. Come by, have a drink and get lost in the music...
This place is awesome. Came here on sunday for salsa. Came around 6 and stayed till around 10 (which I think they were open later than usual since it was labor day).
The sun was shining by the water - albiet wind and coldness. And the starry night came really quickly. I love the patio by the water.
There was a live band with visiting musicians from around the world and they rocked. The crowd was very fun and the dancers - who dance very cuban style- have soulful stylings.
One less star because they ran out of mojitos early on in the night. WTF? But they had plenty of sangria. I saw people eating some great cuban food too.
Also, the $15 cover charge made my drink buying pot less. :( But it may have been a labor day or band factor that increased the entry).
It's not the YMCA. It's not the Badlands. It's not even EQ3 on a Sunday afternoon. But, despite it's lack of flair and gay cachet, Jelly's is becoming the hottest new homo dance club in the city.
I went last Saturday with my boys and a bottle of Grey Goose between us. (Only the good stuff for us.) From the moment the bouncer patted me down with special attention, I knew I was in gay heaven. The dance floor was packed with hot guys, all cruising for attention, and dancing the forbidden dance. Wait. Was that the lambada? Okay, it was all about the salsa here. And I'm not talking condiments.
So, when your looking to break that Jackson that's been burning a hole in your pocket, but you still want some change left over to do laundry on Sunday. . . or if you just aren't sure how to burn off the excess blow you snarfed earlier in the day, head down to SOMA and take a ride on the Jellycoaster.
Really fun place for Salsa dancing on Sundays. I've been trying to get back into the dance groove and this was a great place to get me moving again!! My butt spent more time dancing than sitting in a chair, so what more can you ask for? (And boy am I outta shape...I definitely need to come back and dance here more frequently!)
Food was just ok. But to be fair, I am a pescetarian, so barbeque isn't all that appealing to me (I'd love to see some grilled veggies added to the menu..). The chips and salsa were pretty good, the rice and beans just so-so..
Can't believe I stepped foot in this mf.
None of the bartenders knew how to make my drink.
The restroom fit only one person at a time.
Crowd is not diverse.
Outside of the club there was a guy in a car who wouldn't leave us alone, we were scared as hell.
Neva eva eva, Jelly's?! Hell na.
Regarding this place as a Salsa club.....
basically, if you are a guy.... and are not a suave, Don Juan, super-advanced salsero....I dunno...hmmmm...you better drink a lot and get the hell outta there (unless you are just naturally oblivious, as some of the clientele seemed to be)....because this crowd is heavy into one-upsmanship on the male end of things....and a guy dancer who is below advanced will get squished like a bug....with relish.
If you are a sweet, decent salsera or pretty young thang just looking to have some nice fun....best of luck not getting eaten alive......or being a wallflower.....or having "challenge moves' thrown at you all afternoon until it stops becoming fun and starts becoming work.....
This place is hardcore salsa... great music, high energy....but a whole lotta attitude in this crowd....
definitely a good example of the Dark Side of the dance....
hmmmm...."Jelly's ~ Bay Area Salsa's very own 'Death Star'..."
whatd'ya think...nice ring to it ?
it's a funky, cool premises and location though.....
Looking for a fun Sunday indoor/outdoor Salsa experience ?...get on over to El Rio instead...it's a mess, but at least it's fun.....
Carambaaaaaaa!
It's getting calliente!
Mohitos and music is off the hook here, and life's good as long as you do that cha-cha ;)
The best diverse spot I ever felt in SF!
In other words - to the people all over the world - no matta what your music is, keep on dancing!!!
Salsa on Sundays is awesome! The band is fantastic and there's a great mix of people there. It helps to know some salsa before you come here - or to hit the bar first!
This place kinda blows. The brunch is not very good, and is pretty expensive. The bathroom is very funky and tiny, as other Yelpers have noted.
Go to the Ramp instead, ok?
I woke up Sunday morning to a beautiful day, but dreading the fact I had to spend some time in the office. Why can't excess work align with bad weather?
Anyway, figured I'd make the most of it and hit a bayside brunch on the way in. Jelly's at night holds no interest, but for eats, I wanted to check it out. Very pleasantly surprised. My egg white scramble was pretty basic, but was treated to the option of black beans as a side. Made for the perfect sandwich when combined with the toast and jam.
Grabbed their veggie burger to go, and that was another nice surprise. The sourdough bread was excellent, and it was crammed with veggies and a nice side salad.
Overall, much better than expected.
This was my first time at Jelly's and it was everything I could ask for.
There was great music, beautiful people and all of them wearing smiles.
The drinks were cold too. I'll definitely be back.
Saturday was the kind of beautiful morning that would entail hour-long waits at the Ramp, and yet, not 2 minutes away, you can practically have the whole Jelly's patio to yourself (almost eerie, actually). That's because Jelly's is by far the least frequented of the 3 waterfront brunch-spot-cum-dance-clubs in Mission Bay (but whether they or Kelly's came first, I'd really like to know), especially, it would seem, for food. In fact, you can only eat here on weekends, and then only during the summer. The menu covers all the basics, from omelettes and benedicts to French toasts and pots of coffee. Preparation is straightforward but their boast of high-quality organic ingredients tasted legit enough. One thing to note is that the water view is more constrained than Kelly's or The Ramp, so only a few of the tables really capitalize on the location.
This review is for Friday nite salsa only - and it was a disappointment.
The band was Avance' popular latin boy band that is all the range...(I'm not getting it). They were definetly too big for the stage...most salsa bands need a larger stage but these guys especially.
The crowd...usual salsa crowd but, the floor is too small and by any comparition it is not a good dance floor. Luckily it was not too packed on the dance floor Friday nite...mostly spectators but, still not my favorite place...won't be returning to salsa.
They did have a nice little patio which was cool...seems like Sunday crowd could be fun for brunch and salsa.
We headed to the 2nd spot of our nite and were greeted by Christian Rock fans. Jelly's is located right next to SBC park, what I thought were Bon Jovi fans turned out to be a bunch of Christian Rock groupies. How I messed that up...not sure.
I was only there to see my fellow Monster's band: PT (Pebble Theory) play. **Check 'em out, they frickin' rock!!** I think I like Jelly's b/c no one ever steals your jacket when you lay them down on the booth chairs, and seriously, when you're with a bunch of Monsters...it's impossible NOT to have fun!!
What a great bar! I am a total sucker for bars with outdoor areas. The patio here was big, heated, had a dj playing outside, and overlooked the bay! You can't get much better than that. The sound system outside was pretty good too. I attribute that to the secluded location of the bar. There are no surrounding neighbors to complain that the music is too loud. There was also a meteor shower going on so every now and then a meteor would shoot across the sky!
The inside room had great sound. The dance floor was big enough to accommodate the large crowd. The djs were phenomenal and diverse, everything from live PAs of new glitchy music, to dancehall reggae, to tribal beats.
The bartenders were extremely nice and attentive. My Kettle One drink was only $6 and mixed perfectly. The tequila shots at the end of the night were filled to the very top of the shot glass.
Note that we were here for a special event so I'm not sure how this place is on otherwise. The night was held as an after-party to an art conference during the day. I'd like to come back for the Sunday brunch or the Sangria.
I have not been here in some time, not since my friend Justin used to be apart of something called THE DEFEATED crew that spun house music which if you know my friend Justin...that is kinda fucking funny.
anyways .
1. the location is remote, but on a hot summer night it is really nice in the back porch area on the water.
2. maybe it has improved but the sound system was horrible back in the day. The bathrooms are upstairs and you'd feel the whole place shaking
3. do not fuck with the bouncers they will WRECK you
So my fourth of July sort of sucked, and it's all your fault.
As far as the Sunset/dirtybird 4th of July celebration goes, they totally blew it. I think chimpanzees would have been more efficient bar tenders then this lot. Did they not know what kind of capacity this sort of event usually pulls, or are they complete dingos? There is no doubt in my mind that I spent more time in line for a drink than socializing or dancing. It's a pain in the ass to get to for the auto impaired. Luckily I was able to snatch a cab from some poor suckers arriving as I was on my way out. I don't give a shit about fireworks, so hopefully the Pacific Sound crew takes this event back to Cocomo where it belongs, as few venues can actually handle this kind of crowd.
I've only gone to the Sunday sessions (4-9) that I think are held during the Spring season...Anyhoo, it's effin great. check Jelly's calendar for dates and band info.
shek ur bon-bon with some mojitos and bbq chicken in the back patio.
very diverse, just a bunch of ppl with a mutual appreciation for great music. gets pretty packed but in a steamy good way. there are some lookers there, sexy ladies and men who know how to dance...heeeeey.
Was here for a ski movie premier. Skiers rule!!
Good cheap beer on tap. Great view of the Bay Bridge and downtown all lit up like a christmas tree.
