the best kosher burger in la.
its small but very organized order a couple of times different food till you find what you like.
there's so much on the menu it will take time till you find it.
tip; call ahead and ask whats on the specials menu for the day its usually the best and it will be ready when you get there.
love that place and very impressive burger combinations. -

Jeff's is one of the best kosher fast food places I've been to. Unlike the fast places in NY that focus on how large and sloppy the food is, Jeff's makes good meat. Their house smoked pastrami is delicious, their burgers are ground in house and their sausage and hot dogs are juicy and great tasting.
My only complaint is that the bread Jeff's uses for their hot dogs and burgers tends to fall apart and get soggy quite quick. Their burger and hiot don buns seem to be bought wholesale. Also the regular fries are just the frozen kind, I guess I expected some good hand cut fries with the skins on for a place with such good meats. -

If you want good kosher you need to go to NY.
We ordered 5 meals and got 2 napkins. Who is the 2 napkins for? We are 5 people!! plus the price is equivlant to a resturant price and not a burger joint.
Plus the food was extra GREESY and OLD!!
BTW i got a negative comment from them after leaving a bad review. Not good business practice!! -
Review from Blair C.
At the recommendation of a new acquaintance I went to Jeff's for dinner tonight.
There are about a dozen types of "sausages" and then the same amount of hot dogs. It's pretty much a classic fast food joint ambience except there are guys yelling at each other in Hebrew (patrons, not staff).
I had a Cajun Chicken sausage which came in a huge french roll topped with hot mustard, fried onions and peppers. As I that that I had been pretty much eating crap all day I decided to try their Basmati Rice as a way to provide some "balance" in my diet. The rice was bland but did exactly what I wanted, the sausages had some het and some interesting flavours but was completely overpowered by the massive french loaf bun that it came in... if you receive the equivalent of a quarter baguette in bread, you'd expect that the sausage would be massive, right? No chance, the sausage was about the size of a regular hot dog.
While my sausages, rice and soda were under $10, this isn't a place that I'd frequent on a regular basis while in LA. It's good for the first try, but there are so many other options along Pico, I think I'll investigate them next.
Now off to MexiKosher! -

This is the place for the best spicy chicken wings in town. The sausages are also very tasty, though I prefer to buy them packaged and grill them up at home. The prepared food is best eaten at the restaurant (rather than take out), though it can get a bit crowded.

very greasy and fatening food. The price is as high as the calories. If you ask for extra bbq sauce they have a heart attack. The onion rings are loaded with oil. i will be back with my kosher friends since we are so limited to kosher resturants in la.
overpriced and badddd -

I have lived in LA for 10 years and I go there almost once a week, and I am always happy! The food is fresh and good quality.
They have the BEST KOSHER HAMBURGER in the city HANDS DOWN!!!
The curly fries are delicious too!!
I highly recommend this place. -

It's all about the Old Fashioned Pastrami - it comes and goes sporatically, and sells out in a snap. Super thick and just melts apart. The best pastrami I've had thus far.

We love finding these small gems and this place is a gem. A "Sausage Factory" peaked out interest, The Name got my husband Jeff out of the car and the smell got us in the door. Jeff ordered the Mergez, which was spicy Moroccan sausage in a soft French roll with a cool cucumber salad on top. I had the polish sausage sandwich. We love to share so they volunteered to split the sandwich for us. All topped off with a Dr. Browns Black Cherry soda. We ended up buying a package of Moroccan sausages to take home. They offer wraps, salads and Low Carb offerings. When we're back in the area we will be back.

Ordered the hot dog and the veal brat. hot dog came with nothing on it. i always let the restaurant serve it the way they serve it, so i get what they think is their best effort. the counterman didn't ask if I wanted "everything on it" like they would at a hot dog joint in Chicago, to which I would have responded, everything on it. . in fact, he didn't ask me anything, so it came plain, and it was pretty bland. the veal brat came served with mustard, mayo and grilled onions. again, not my request, but how they serve it. mayo on a veal brat? not so great. also, the brat was kind of bland. skip it.

I wanted to interject here with all of these crazy 5-star reviews. There is nothing here that you can't get cheaper somewhere else if you eat non-kosher. Friends of mine have come in here and are baffled by the rudeness, considering the prices are about double that of most other places with a similar set up.

Los Angeles, CA
It's loud and brassy and bright and crowded and sanitized and has weird feng shui and I've never seen so many girls wearing Toms in my entire life. Hempy Toms, sparkly Toms, Toms in every color of the rainbow. Toms Toms Toms.
I like the fries. The hot dogs were fine. They have Diet Dr. Brown's Black Cherry, so that's enough to keep me quiet.
I'm Asian (just barely) and have never seen another Asian person in here. So I feel odd when I order Asian Slaw, as though they mixed up a batch just for me. As in, "Yes, hello, I am here to pick up my slaw."
If you keep Kosher, this food is probably going to taste awesome. I eat treyf almost exclusively, so for me, these hot dogs and sausages taste just a little less exciting than non-Kosher ones. Must be the lack of melamine, rat tails, sawdust, poop chute, hooves, and shredded Chinese newspapers. Mmmm. -

It's cheap and the sausages are tasty. If you can't stand spicy, go with the apple-chicken. Otherwise, get something with at least one chili pepper listed next to it! My friends also love their chicken wings which (if you only eat kosher) you're not going to be able to eat anywhere else and so if you miss that messy-sauce-running-down-your-chin-and-hands feeling, Jeff's is a great place to go.
The turkey teriyaki burger is too saturated in sauce for my liking, so I'd advise to stick with the sausages.
Service is not rude, but they're not there to be your best friend. Know that going in. Also: there is a chance you can find parking in their lot in the back. Handy. -

Great food once you start eating you forget about the noise. Wild western burger kicks butt. It's a grilled to perfection burger topped with grilled pastrami and homemade onion rings. All of that smothered in western sauce. Best burger ever. Sausages are also really flavored and tasty.

Home of the world's best kosher onion rings. I can't stand sausage and would never order it even if offered to me for free, but yet, I love this place because Jeff's offers a wide variety of delicious kosher meat meals that you might not expect from its name, such as fajita wraps, tacos, buffalo chicken wings, pastrami and french dip sandwiches, and chili burgers, just to name a few.
Plus, it's the only place in LA that sells kosher beef jerky and dried salami sticks. -

My first experience to a Kosher deli, and it turned out to be a terrific one! Two Jewish friends of mine introduced me to Jeff's Gourmet last Tuesday, and at first I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of dining in the tiny eating area, but then, I was determined to give it a try. One of my favorite sausages of all time is merguez (spicy lamb and beef), and it is pretty much mission impossible to find any here in LA! But I found my God-sent merguez at Jeff's!! So, with my mouth dripping in anticipation, I ordered their Deli merguez sandwich, with a beef chili. Gosh... It was just out of this world!!! And even if I had to eat literally squeezed between my 2 friends, I enjoyed this meal like if it was coming directly from heaven!!! The person at the cash register was extremely friendly (and funny!). I will definitely come back!!!!

I'm not Jewish, but I'm Polish and have another Polish friend who can't eat pork. The beef kielbasa here tastes so good I feel like I'm back in Krakow! I've also had the merguez which is just spicy enough to make it interesting, and the Italian, which is quite mild. Delicious sausages, and open late!

Obviously, I really love hot dogs (please refer to Hot Doug's review with addendums) but while I greatly enjoyed my veal bratwurst at Jeff's, what I was really blown away by was the burgers. The chili burger was a lovely messy delicious mix and the avocado burger had big generous slices of fabulous looking avocado.
If you check in on foursquare you can get free stuff too!! -

One of my favorite places to go in LA for a hot dog. And you don't even have to stand in line for an hour for the food!
The service is quick and friendly.
The prices are reasonable.
The Polish on the onion roll was one of the better Polish dogs I've had. The NY Dog special was really nicely made.
GF really likes their beef french dip sandwich as well. -

*** NOTE: As of this review, the Old Fashioned Pastrami is SOLD OUT! I'll write a review update when I hear from twitter they're serving it again ***
There is nothing that I can write that will top the beautiful pastrami inspired prose put out by Thi Nguyen (LA Times/Chow) regarding this thing of wonder - the OLD FASHIONED Pastrami - served only for limited bouts of time. Call or check their twitter to see if it's being served, usually for 2-3 week periods every couple months until it sells out. Far and away one of the most delicious sandwiches this city has to offer. It's a destination sandwich.
If you think Langer's is thick cut, Jeff's Old Fashioned will blow your mind. It's thick, it's fatty, it's gamey, it's so over the top delicious it will make your head spin. The bread isn't as good as Langer's but it's beside the point when you have meat this good. Can't say anything else about the menu, it's only the Old Fashioned that'll get my ass to the West Side ;) -

Had the Mergez. Lamb and beef. Pretty bland for lamb. Kind of a let-down.
The fries were good. -

I cheated on Langers and I'm not ashamed of it.
Step 1) Check their twitter or call to confirm that their special "old fashioned" pastrami is available: http://twitter.com/#!/...
Step 2) Drive Jason Bourne style through LA to GET YOUR ASS OVER THERE because it's that damn good.
Their pastrami has more oomph to it -- tender but a gamey unapologetic fattiness rounded out by thick swathes of garlic and smoke. The rye is good but it's not that perfect crusty bread you'll find at Langer's. That's ok with me. -
Review from Reina K.

When it comes to kosher food, I have standards. I remember what it's like to eat at non-kosher places, and know how good the food is. Some restaurants skate by because they're kosher, but their food isn't that great.
Jeff's is the best exception. Their sausages are not only fantastic, but you can buy them and take them home and do whatever you want with them (I personally do the turkey italian with peppers, onions and garlic over pasta). They make them fresh on site. I love that in a local place.
And it doesn't only stop with sausages! They make their own pastrami, which is just fabulous on top of one of their delicious burgers. They also have great fries.
A couple of sad notes, though... one is that there isn't a lot of space to sit down and eat, and often you have to either wait for a table or take it outside or to go. Another is that sometimes it takes a while to process orders. But, then again, I'm willing to sit, roll over and play dead for Jeff's... waiting a couple minutes doesn't really make a difference. -

Look, I'm kosher, so I'll admit I haven't eaten Pinks or any other well known places for sausages and other meats. But I can still tell you that this place is SO damn good. I've taken so many friends here - people who HAVE eaten everywhere - and just about everyone agrees this is high quality meat, and damn tasty every time.
What to recommend?
My girlfriend loves spicy food, she was THRILLED when she had their hot wings, they were really hot, and she's now had it three times. I can't handle spicy food and I can recommend the BBQ Beef Sandwich, it's a bit pricey (about 14 bucks) but really really tasty. I can eat it every time. But I don't, because at the end of the day, their sausages are what you come for, and it's hard to resist getting their delicious Polish or Beef Italian, both of which my non-spicy pallette can handle, and both of which are awesome "hot dogs". I've been told their burgers are awesome, but I don't go to Jeff's Sausage for the burgers thank-you-very-much. :)
Main complaint? Not enough space and cramped in there. I know they've been trying to expand or move for a while so they don't lose points since it's no fault of theirs. Another minor complaint is that they don't open Saturday nights. A cool thing to note though, you can even get a few of their items at The Grove mall at one of the kiosks, and the movie theater will let you take it inside. Not bad!
One last thing I'll mention...Jeff himself is around on a daily basis, and is an amazingly friendly guy. It always takes away a bit when I like a place but the owner is unfriendly, and it DOES happen, but not this place, Jeff is awesome and I'm happy to make that the final word. -

In the past, when my reviews have differed from the majority, it's for a restaurant's reputation. People have been going somewhere a long time, and they have fond memories despite the sinking level of quality.
But growing up in the midwest, I can tell you that beer and bratwurst (or sausage) make many a summer meal. So reading the reviews (nearly all glowing) I was excited to try this place.
Oh my.
The rolls for all meals are fantastic...but why would they get rolls so large they dwarf the sausage and/or whatever is inside? I'm eating a breadwich at the end of the day.
Perhaps as a nod to the typical and returning customer, the "spicy" selections are far from the description. Spicy may be a relative term, but shouldn't there be some effort toward flavor? I could be wrong, though: it's hard to tell with the bottle of mustard you're eating. (That can't be where the "spicy" is supposed to come from, can it?)
It's a small space in there, so if it's mildly busy, you're out of luck. The less-visited neighboring restaurants also have tables outside, but they're quick to shoo you away. (Don't want to give the impression they're busy, I guess) It'll be a snap judgment, but even if you get your order to go, you're bumping into people who DID find a table, and are struggling through their meal.
The Sweet Potato Fries are good, though. Warm, crispy, and flavorful. Wish I could say the same of the main course. -

After checking out Got Kosher's Merguez sausage, we had to do a little comparison shopping down the street at Jeff's.
We ordered three sausages including the Boerewors; a South African inspired sausage, chorizo and bratwurst (made with veal). Oh yes, in case you didn't know, Jews who keep Kosher don't eat the filthy pig.
I didn't mind these sausages at all. The buns were nice. On a second trip, I tried their burger and a couple of other sausages.
This place gets super busy so I'd suggest going odd times if you do want to sit. The two tables out front are premium space for the teens.
I'll have to come back to try the pastrami. -

By FAR the BEST kosher food establishment in Los Angeles. I recommend the Mergez Sausage, the onion rings, the seasoned fries.
Their specials are always really great and there is a reason why its always packed.
People come visit and are blown away by the amount of kosher restaurants on Pico and always ask where they should eat.
For the fleish I recommend Jeffs.
5 stars for a reason. -

Jeff's is the best! For around $10, you get a gourmet sausage, fountain soda, and fries. Compare that, for instance, to $11 for a measly foot-long Schnitzly sandwich with no fries or soda. For kosher fast food, the price and quality can't be beat.
The place is small, but they have outside seating along Pico. The glass wall facing the street makes for nice people-watching. The place is kept neat and clean.
Basically, I'd eat lunch here every day if I could afford it. -

The whole gastropub fad has really caught on. Everyone loves Wurstkuche... except for me. Why don't I like it? Well, let's see here... the beers are overpriced, and so are the sausages... and honestly, the sausages just aren't that good. GASP! Did he really say that? I did. Wurstkuche has crappy sausages. I'm not afraid to admit it, and I apologize to all of my friends who are reading this review who have been swept up in the Wurstkuche phenomenon. Wurstkuche, you have the worst cooch I've ever tasted.
Now, if you want some good sausages to make yourself, I would refer you to European Deluxe Sausage Kitchen on Olympic (if you're a west-sider), or to Alpine Village in Torrance (if you're willing to make the trek or are a south-bayer). And yet, sometimes you're lazy, and you feel like letting someone else make your sausage for you, am I correct?
In walks Jeff's Gourmet Kosher Sausage Factory. So no, it's not a trendy hotspot like Wurstkuche, but if you're looking for solid, HOMEMADE sausages then you can drop on in and grab a bite. So yeah, they're less expensive than Wurstkuche, but more importantly they're homemade and taste way better in my opinion. Further, instead of hooking everyone with the exotic sounds of consuming alligator (which really is just rubbery chicken with scales) or rabbit (which is gamey chicken, or more along the lines of pheasant), Jeff's takes the traditional offerings and makes them just a little more interesting.
Case in point: My girlfriend and I ate at Jeff's recently. I ordered the Polish ($4.75), which was a beef and garlic kielbasa on an onion roll topped with mustard and sauerkraut. The sausage was smokey and very Polish indeed, and the sauerkraut was tasty... a tasty take on a most traditional sausage. My girlfriend, on the other hand, went for something a little more exciting, and was definitely rewarded. She opted for the Mergez ($5.25), which is a spicy Moroccan beef and lamb sausage, served in a French roll and topped with Mediterranean salad (consisting of cucumbers, etc). The salad really made the dish, because it was cold and crunchy and sweet and served to compliment the spicy bite of the sausage quite perfectly. Next time, I will definitely be ordering the Mergez.
I was really impressed with my first adventure at Jeff's (my girlfriend has been there several times), and frankly (no pun intended) the only disappointment was the order of seasoned fries ($4.25), which were too much like A&W's curly fries... my girlfriend said that Jeff's regular fries are much better, so for future reference I'll stick with those.
All in all, the prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is casual, and while you won't be able to order any Chimay, at least you can enjoy a damn fine wiener. 4 stars, I'll definitely be back. -
Review from Javier J.
While I'm not sure if Israel really is set aside for the chosen people, I do know that they're the chosen ones to make delicious meats. From a good brisket to a good pastrami sandwich, give me a Jewish deli any day of the week. So color me surprised when I see that they mastered another of the awesome meats.. the Sausage!
Which, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised considering I've grew up eating Hebrew National hot dogs... they answer to a higher authority.. And they have Rabbi's checking on their dogs. When it comes to Jeff's Gourmet, they got plenty Rabbi's around their food - Only they're waiting in line for their food!
Ah yes, the chosen hot dog! That's what Jeff's is. But you have to remember that Saturday is the Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest. That means that they don't work. So don't go craving this dog, don't freakin' ride in a car, they wont pick up the phone, they don't turn on the grill, and they sure as shit DON'T FUCKING ROLL HOT DOGS! SHOMER SHABBOS!
Shomer fucking shabbos... And that's why they close up early on Fridays and don't open on Saturdays. So SHUT THE FUCK UP, Donnie! I told you and the league office a thousand times, we can't get a Gourmet Kosher Sausage on those days.
So obviously it means that Thursdays get really busy as well as Sundays as you've been jonesing a really good Kosher Sausage. You know that a place is crazy good when there's a crowd around a spot on Pico in this area.
Don't let the crowds intimidate you from coming, it may be a little hectic... Okay, I'm not going to lie, you have to be real aggressive at the cash register and ordering your food. Not to mention the parking. When I first came here the parking was a little tough.
One solution to this would be coming up with a two person operation in getting your sausage on. One person to drive around in circles while the other jumped out (doing a rolling tumble, of course) and picking up the order after you've placed the order by phone. But after much road rash later it was discovered that they have a good number of spots to park in the back.
This is one of the best sausages you can find in L.A., never mind the fact that it's Kosher encourage you to come, because it's just delicious all around. Just remember, the lamb takes the longest to make. -

Burger #52: The Kosher Burger
I was trying to get my Muslim coworker to eat meat with us but she refused unless it was halal. There aren't many halal meat spots on the west side but lots of kosher places. After a long debate and much internet research I was still unable to convince her that kosher and halal were close enough. But during that search I stumbled upon Jeff's Gourmet Kosher Sausage Factory and the menu had what I craved that day, burger, pastrami and chili fries. No cheese burgers or chili cheese fries though! Damn my people!
So I go with another coworker at noon and was able to find some good illegal parking right behind the building. Inside, it wasn't that packed either. I ordered a pastrami burger ($8.95) and seasoned chili fries ($5.95.) A little pricey but it's a Jewish place so it's expected. Within 10 minutes, my name is called and I grab my grub.
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
I really wish my burger had cheese on it but it was still good. As you can see in the picture, the pastrami looks like bacon! That's because these smarties grilled the pastrami on the grill with the burger! Genius! Nice and juicy with crisp edges. The meat patty itself was really good and very sausage like. Thinking about it, it was pretty much a ground beef, burger shaped sausage. The meat was seasoned very well and tasted really good solo. There should have been more pastrami on the burger for the bump in price but oh well.
The chili fries were top notch. Great tasting chili and the seasoned fries went perfect with it. Some of the best chili fries I've had. A bit steep on the price to quantity ratio but I guess it's ok.
I will definitely be going back to try some of those sausages that were taunting me!Listed in: Burgers Burgers Burgers, Chili Chili Chili

Why did I have to wait in line for an hour on La Brea , whether it's 1 in the afternoon or 1 in the morning, for a god-awful chili dog? Because I'm a masochist.
Why did I have to subject myself to ingesting those nasty bacon-wrapped weiners outside the club at 2am? Because I was desperate and drunk.
And forget about flying to NY or NJ to get me some Nathan's or deep-fried hot dogs.
Call me mashuganah and pass me the yarmulke for I finally found the promised land, chosen people! Moses, Abraham or King David would be green with envy.
So, go on an exodus, part the Red Sea and follow the only commandment: Thou shall not covet other sausages except Jeff's.
Too bad, you're not fucking invited to my Bar Mitzvah - yeah, I'm converting --- you're simply not kosher enough. Kosher sausages I tells ya.
