My fellow men, three-word review:
"Free Christmas Wrapping."
Nuff said? -
Review from Rachel M.
San Francisco, CA
FRAUD!! I would never visit this store again...I bought something for my father for Christmas and they sold me what turned out to be an empty box. When I took it back today, the manager treated me like it was my own fault (but who the heck takes a Christmas present out of the box before they give it?!?) and refused to give me the actual product despite the fact that I had the box and receipt. She scoffed and told me, "This isn't how we do business here," and one of her employees proceeded to make fun of my physical handicap.
This is a horrible store filled with immigrant workers who think it is okay to make fun of people who have money and complain when someone with money tries to catch them in the act of perpetrating fraud.
I will happily take my business to any competitor of theirs; I intend to file a complaint with the consumer fraud hotline and discourage others from shopping there. -

Rarely do I write reviews, but I just had to give props to Jeffrey's.
I was there with my 3 year old son, we like stopping in when we are downtown, and he was choosing what he was going to ask Santa for. Everything he chose, he was actually quite selective, I put on the ground. I then asked him to keep looking and asked a sales associate to please gather up everything on the floor and charge it to my card, which I handed her, and asked if I could pick it up Monday when he was not with me.
She took the toys, rang them up, slipped me the sales slip and they held the items for me for two day's. Little man had NO idea Santa just got all of his shopping done, right under his nose, all thanks to the AMAZING staff at Jeffrey's.
You will NEVER get service like that at Wal Mart or Target. -

On its face, Jeffrey's seems like a Market Street tourist trap. Under the surface, though, there are several things that make this place genuinely cool for locals.
Most obviously, their toy selection is impressive. They've got walls full of plush animals, fancy anime collectibles, and most things in between. (Sorry, no designer vinyl toys a la Kid Robot or Dunnies or the like).
But on the real DL, Jeffrey's has a legit comic book store hidden in the back. The usual Marvel and DC offerings, but also slightly more adventurous titles from smaller publishers like Boom, Dynamite, and Avatar. Like a real shop, they get new titles delivered every Wednesday. A solid, surprising find. -

I left my wallet over the counter one night last week and on the morning of the other day, I could get it completely safe from their employees.
That is a great sign of integrity. Thank you very much. Regards.

***This toy store seems to have a good selection of toys and games; while there was nothing here that I felt was incredibly unique, it is probably a good spot if you are looking for a gift***
I imagine parking is hard to find and expensive around here. -

THE ONLY PLACE I COULD FIND DOUBLE DUTCH ROPES. I seriously called everywhere. The employee was nice enough to set it aside for us to pick up later in the day.
Insanely awesome selection of boardgames and comics.
The staff member we spoke to was also into tabletop RPG games which made purchasing dice even more fun. I want to become a regular! -

Well, I am all for supporting local businesses which is why we buy toys for our little girl from this store, which is around the corner from where we live. There is a massive selection, which is wonderful, although like many reviewers have pointed out, the store tends to be a little haphazard and it can be quite difficult to find what you want. The prices are reasonably higher than buying it from a big departmental chain or from http://Amazon.com. Again, higher prices come with supporting local businesses!
However what IS with the attitude of the staff there? They are rude and unfriendly at best, and makes me feel like I am inconveniencing them when I go to their counter to pay. I also had a dreadful experience with them (including their manager!) when I tried to return a toy which was malfunctioning. I did not break it, it was already broken when I opened it. I wanted to return it, I am not paying for broken goods.
Staff: "Oh, it is open, we cannot take it back."
Me: "YES you are! I am not paying for something which you sold which does not even work!"
Staff: "But it is not our fault, you have to write to the manufacturer, oh and look, it is made in China."
Me: "No I don't. YOU sold a broken toy to me, and you have to provide the refund if it is not working. I did not buy the toy from the manufacturer, I bought it from you."
Staff: "But it is opened already"
Me: "How am I supposed to know that this doesn't work if I don't open it?!!" (steam emerging from my head)
Staff: (looked away and pretended she had more important stuff to do) "I don't know, we don't do refunds."
Me: "Who is your manager?"
Staff: (points to the lady next to her) "She is the manager"
Manager: "We don't do refunds, and look at the label, the parts are from China, you will have to speak to the manufacturer.."
This went on for another five minutes and I was simply not budging. Anyway, they eventually refunded me the cost of that toy. Nonetheless this incident has put me off ever shopping in that store again. With such service, I might as well order what I want from http://Amazon.com. It is cheaper and their after sales customer service and return policies are excellent.
I would also suggest that you enquire about the return policy of that store when you are making an expensive purchase. My loss wouldn't be too great if I did not get the refund but if you bought an expensive item which is faulty, be aware that they may wriggle their way out of offering you a refund. -

As a huge fan of collectable toys and comics the products in this store is absolutely fantastic! You can find a bunch of board games, stuff animals, comics and classic vintage toys here. I'm a regular here and the only problems I have is that they're quite pricey and their staff are not my favorite either.....stood in line with my comics waiting for them to ring me up and they made eye contact with me but just continue talking to their co-workers until 5 mins later when she finally seemed to "notice" me and rang me up......they need to hire different people.

I came in here for a gift for a family member and they had a decent selection of toys to choose from. I got a little help from the sales associates when I needed it. However, this place is pretty overpriced. If I had planned better, I would have shopped on Amazon, but I needed something right away, so it got the job done.
I can deal with stuff being overpriced, but what I have little tolerance for is rude sales associates. When I was ready to make my purchase, the two sales associates continued to chat with one another in another language while hardly even acknowledging me. Hellooo?? I am giving you money for your overpriced merchandise. The least you can do is acknowledge me. If you're going to speak to one another while I'm making a transaction, at least speak in English.
I'll be taking my money elsewhere next time. -

Lots of action figures, puppets and board games. Jeffrey's Toys reminds me of the past and gives me a sense of nostalgia, a nice reminder of when I used to head over to Woolworth's and other five-and-dime stores to buy simple things to play with.
But the prices at Jeffrey's Toys look like they're from the future and remind me that this ain't no Woolworth's. -

I really enjoy going to this shop, it just transports me to memories of a happier carefree time as a kid....
There's a little bit of everything for every kid here, there's a board game section with what looks like a lot of RPG type games, a model section, a comic section...just a lot of nice toys as well for all ages. -

Very quick appraisal:
Selection of toys are great, if overpriced.
Comics are standard.
Employees are RUDE.
Employees act as if you're an inconvenience. -

My son turns one tomorrow. I still remember the first couple of grueling months where my wife and I, elated as we were, suffered through severe sleep deprivation. Still, the last 364 days have been an amazing ride and parenthood has forever changed me and I'm the luckiest father on the face of the planet!
So anyway, I thought I'd get my son a toy to give him tomorrow... Not that he cares much at this point since he's typically happier chewing on the packaging than actually playing with the toy itself. Still it's a ceremonious act that, if anything, is a gift for the parent.
I wandered the aisles, looking at the huge assortment of toys, board games, and comic books, and flashing forward to a couple of years from now when I'll eagerly take my son with me so I can see his face full of joy and amazement.
Jeffrey's Toys is a toy store the way toy stores were meant to be! -

I like coming to Jeffrey's toys because it's conveniently located downtown and it is one of the few independent toy stores left well...anywhere. They have a good selection of toys for kids of all ages and whenever I have someone in need of a gift to make them smile I always come here for ideas. Your going to pay a premium but if you actually get to play with the toy your checking out for someone I consider this a fair trade off. If your ever in the need for a last minute birthday, white elephant, etc. type of gift then I would definitely recommend a walk through here.

I always take time to stop by Jeffrey's Toys whenever I stop by the city. Even if I have no intention to buy anything here, I still have to walk in to take a peek of what they have. They've got really rare toys and models that you can't find at your typical big box retailer. And a nice collection of comics which is usually my main reason for coming in for a short read. If you have time to kill if you're downtown, this is a cool spot to check out.

If you are anything like me, you are constantly searching for fun toys to send to your nieces /nephews. I always want to send them unique things they can't find at a local Wal-Mart in Washington.
Jeffrey's has everything and more! I love just snooping around in the store and finding something I didn't know existed.
I was just in there today and found an entire rack of temporary tattoo- from butterflies and fairies to flowers and peace signs.
The service is good/friendly and its really not overpriced. -

There exists a pivotal moment in every individual life when one forgoes youthful aspiration for societal responsibility. All prospect of freedom diminishes to burden; the wishful desire for a fictional life. One's finely-crafted universe implodes and adheres to the stark realization that life is not always beautiful and clean. Discipline exceeds all other virtues, where the implication of sacrifice is assumed. Intrinsically liberating libation unravels the very thread of this continuance. There exists a pivotal moment in every individual life when one chooses to live for others rather than themselves...
...what?!
They have TRANSFORMERS?!!!

I was extremely underwhelmed by Jeffrey's toys but it isn't their fault. I was led to believe they had unusual toys that I could buy for my Niece and Nephew that wouldn't be duplicated by anyone else.

Unfortunately for me Jeffrey's doesn't have anything unique or even very interesting it's an absolutely typical toy store.

Skip Toys 'r' Us and give this independent gem some love. There's something for all ages and tastes here. Craft kits, comics, Barbies, funky imported toys, stuffed animals, stickers, board games, science kits, baby development toys, books, collectibles, bathtub toys, card games, dress-up stuff...whatever fun thing you can imagine, Jeffrey's has got it.
I just got back with the kid's birthday gifts and this is what I got for $55: A set of 4 miniature Disney princesses with snap-on clothes and accessories, paper dolls with stick-on clothes that you use a special pencil to scratch patterns to reveal the colors underneath, a coloring book with a magic "invisible ink" marker, purple fairy wings and a matching Barbie fairy doll. Pretty good haul for a 5-year-old. -

Since the demise of Toys R Us , FAO Schwarz and KB Toys in San Francisco, Jeffrey's is the only toy store where I can atleast try and find toys to buy and donate to charity. Many little family members have received toys from here also.
I just wish it were in a larger store so that they could carry more stock. This is a bigger space from when the occupied the space on the corner now a Starbucks.
I love the selection of board games and the dolls. There is an extensive selection of toddler toys like the Playskool line.
The comic book people still come here. I have always been attracted to the toys, stuffed animals and gag/joke toys.
One of these days I will buy some of the collectible toys in the glass cases in the front. -

Me: "Do you have a flying saucer?"
Store Clerk: "A what?"
Me: "A flying saucer."
Store Clerk: "A what?"
Me: "An alien flying saucer."
[makes round gesture with hand]
Store Clerk:
[Turns to other employee who looks at me with glazed eyes]
Me: "An alien flying saucer. Like outer space?"
Other Employee:
[Glazed eyes barely focus on me]
Third Employee: "Oh like a frisbee?"
Me: "No. A flying saucer."
[All three shake their heads]
*********
That it took THREE people to tell me that no, they do not carry small alien flying saucer toys is beyond me.

It's hard for me to resist going into Jeffrey's, especially as it's on my way to work, and very near the Fi-Di. While their selection of toys can be somewhat lacking, they do have a few choice action figures and memorabila, it's relatively easy to find a last minute gift for that dork in your office or life (example: I bought a talking Abe Lincoln doll for a friend who just became an American citizen).
Me, I go and browse the comic books and graphic novels in back. I've seen more than a few nerds, myself included, whiling away their lunch hour back here. -

I'm still all giddy after leaving this store. Oh but a mere five minutes ago, I walked in and heard on their radio Snoop Dogg's "Sexual Seduction" aka "Sexual Eruption" (it's a very dirty song, look up the lyrics...) IT'S A CHILDREN'S TOY STORE!! I walked in and was like... 'wait a sec... do you hear what I hear...?' and then started laughing. to myself. Anyway, children should not be listening to tunes like this while shopping for their new action figure or toy truck (which they have lots of!)
Nonetheless, I love this store!!! It's not like Toys R' Us or KB - Those stores suck compared to this one. This place offers unique things you won't really find anywhere else. Their comic/magazine section is huge!
Love it. -

It was the day of our company offsite, and we were heading out to Golden Gate Park for some recreation, some barbecue'd meat, and some cold beverages, and I was struck with fear that we'd be without a Frisbee to toss around, so I looked up sporting goods on Yelp, and bolted out of the office and headed straight for Jeffrey's.
This place is a good option for a variety of toys for a wide range of people, but the sporting goods selection was pretty weak. I did find a substitute for a Frisbee, but it wasn't what I wanted.
On a side note, this place's comic book section, at 1:30 PM on a weekday, was swarming with middle aged men flipping through their comics more intently than a group of business men hovering over the Maxim section of the magazine rack at an airport terminal. I must be missing something there. -

With the big toy stores like FAO Schwarz and Toys R' Us gone, there are few left to shop from. What's nice about Jeffrey's is that they are stocked with all kinds of toys, for young kids or those just young at heart. It always puts a smile on my face to see games from my childhood--which, granted, wasn't that long ago. The store is packed to the max with goods, and the rush of shoppers during the holiday season makes it that much harder to navigate the aisles.
Though they're local, and the location is convenient, the prices here are also higher. If you work in the Financial District, it's one of those places to browse and kill time in during your lunch break. -

Why is this the only place in SOMA to buy a scrabble board?
Sigh...
I walked in one day to find the walls were packed from floor to ceiling with board games and other super geeky stuff. I was on a mission and I didn't have time to spare, so I bought the first scrabble game I could find. I was pleasantly surprised that they had a Deluxe Scrabble board, however, it was the raised plastic kind. If I were Jeffrey I'd sell the BAD ASS Deluxe Limited Edition wooden Scrabble game because that's what the big kids play on. No really....any game is good enough. Scrabble RULES. Anyway, what am I doing in a toy store in the mid-day on a work week anyway. For real?
The place made me squeel in hapiness when I noticed by the cash register they had one of those magic coloring books witht he magic pen for kids with limited spending money/talent/inability to color inside the lines....either way I love them. They easily got another $6 out of me for having that coloring book in reaching distance from me. So happy I was a kid in a toy store.......buying Scrabble.....WORD!Listed in: The Places I Go Out

I love Jeffrey's. It reminds me of the kind of toy store I used to love going to when I was a kid. That was long ago. Before "Toys R Us" and KB Toys and those other disgusting skeevey places.
They have modern comics - the good kind. With drawings of hot large breasted chicks in them - you know the kind I mean.
They have all sorts of board games. Even one called "Pass The Pig", which is quite fun.
They have little plastic farm animals that you can use to populate a little plastic farm, or give to a friend who likes sheep (maybe a little too much).
They have ant farms too, if that's your interest. Although I don't know why you would willingly bring ants into your home.
They have key chains with your name on them. Unless your name is Satyanarayana. Then they probably don't have that.
They have big bouncy balls. I mean, don't know if they are really bouncy - I never bounced them... Not that I'd want to. Wait... this has taken an unexpected turn.
Okay, you just have to come check it out for yourself.Listed in: What to do in SF?

You really haven't lived until you're a 25 year old woman in a toy store asking the sales person where the rubber snakes are. This is the situation I found myself in the day before Halloween after deciding to dress up as Eve -- the Biblical character, not the rapper (hence the snake).
After striking out at a few other stores, my co-workers recommended Jeffrey's Toys. What a great store! If I was 15 years younger I'd be all over this place. They had just about every game you can think of and so many other cool toys. I just wish they had all of this stuff when I was a kid. -

Sadly, one of the few places here in kid-unfriendly San Francisco where you can find toys and comics. I say "sadly" because I really want to support a business like Jeffrey's but they make it hard for me to like them:
I asked to see something inside a glass case. The young lady that worked there said to me in a very snippy tone: "I am helping a customer right now". I said "Aaahhh...OK" and I just stood there. Was she coming back? Was I unreasonable?
Here is some retail 101: Of course you are helping a customer! After all, that is YOUR JOB sweetie. You never say that to someone because we are ALL customers. A nice "I'll be back in a minute! I'm just finishing helping ANOTHER costumer" would be the polite thing to say. I'm not a "I need help NOW" type of a-hole. I can wait.
And believe me....I waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Snippy longstockings never came back.
I ended up purchasing a lot of merchandise to put together some "back to school survival kits" for teachers. Seems like I spent a fortune there. I could have gotten the same items on line. That is probably the saddest part: I'm sure businesses like Jeffrey's Toys have a hard time competing with huge corporate monsters that deliver to your door. I could have avoided the hassle by just clicking a few boxes. But where is the experience and the wonder of going to a fun toy store? I just hope they treat kids and young people better. -
Review from Farrah A.
I haven't been inside a toy store in years, manly because the sheer thought of coming across a Veruka-like monster screaming at the top of her lungs runs chills down my spine. But at Jeffrey's, I didn't encounter anything like this--just a quite, little business filled with more toys for all ages and from more generations than you could ever imagine.
TONS of board games, finger puppets, fairy dust, sea monkeys, fake swords, Nerf Balls, posters, paint kits, super hero figures, stuffed animals ... even Wooly Willy, you know, the bald dude you used to draw hair on with a magnetic pen. YOU, not just the child you're shopping for, will be in awe and excitement with all the gems you'll find. I only wish my little nephew were in town to share this excitement with me...Listed in: San Francisco Shopping

Yay Toys!
I want it all! OK, so that's not true, cuz i don't collect action figures, wouldn't necessarily consider myself a geek, and I'm not a 2 year old who is learning how to put a square peg in a square hole....however, I finally had a reason to enter this toy store i pass daily, and was pleased with what I did find.
When I decide to host a game night, I now know where to find the games like Taboo, Scatergories, Cranium and Apples to Apples.
When I finally decide to open my miniature animal petting zoo, I know where to go to get my animals.
When I have to buy a geek a present for his/her birthday, I know where to go and get that star wars action figure or optimus prime transformer.
When I run out of drinking games to play, I know where to find the decks of cards that teach me new ones.
When my friend finally has their baby, I know where to get the tactile toys that they require.
I love feeling like a kid...and that's what I felt like the moment I walked into this store. I wanted to tell my mommy what toy i wanted, but then I remembered that my mommy wasn't there, and I was going to have to buy whatever it was i needed. Man...i miss the days of shopping with mom. She always came through. I think she got tired of the crying.
Did I mention they gift wrap too? -

I really like this store because they have a huge selection of toys. I really like they have a lot of toys and comics that are unique and hard to find other places. Their only downfall is the prices. They toys are still a bit higher than if you were to shop online. The store is pretty packed with toys but the salespeople are usually friendly and helpful and go out of their way to help you get what you need. Its really nice to shop here.

As toy stores go... this place has a standard selection of kid stuff. But as luck would have it - no sticker books. Dang.
Puppets, stuffed animals, arts and crafts stuff? Yes.
Comic books galore? Yes.
Collectibles (miniature model stuff)? Sure.
Sticker books? No. Oh well. Sorry junior.
I would have given them 4 stars but opted for three since I think their customer service was less than average. When I have gone in it felt like most of the employees were hanging in the back and not too eager to help out when I had a question.
Hey... three stars. And that's OK -

I love walking by Jeffrey's. The jam packed selection from toys to crafts always draws me in.
It's a great location if you're downtown to get a toy instead of buying online.
Today was especially nice when I went into ask for a product. They were out of stock and the woman suggested first Pearl's, which also was out of stock, then Patrick's. I thought that was really cool that she would refer me to these other businesses.
Support this great local business and enjoy real-time shopping! -

This place is a mess. Toys and toys all over the place!! Boxes from China are scattered all over the place with no prices to go along with them. The toys here are overpriced and made in china. POS.
Don't be fooled by the toys in the glass display case (eg. horses). It's just another toy that is put behind a glass case that does it make look nicer. eh... -

I have mixed feelings about Jeffrey's but based on my last couple of visits, I have to ere on the side of 'not a fan'. The major plus is location and convenience to the office. When one needs to buy some Nerf guns for the engineering team, this place has your back. Selection is spotty though, extremely spotty. We wanted to find 2 of the same Nerf gun so the enginerds wouldn't fight over them but they only had 1 in stock of all the cool guns. There is also zero organization to the store. You can walk in circles and circles before finding what you want. The staff doesn't help you out either. It's impossible to figure out who works there and who you can ask for help. With a chaotic, jammed pack store like this, you better have little helpers standing by.
Take my last visit as an example: I spent a good 20 minutes scouring the store looking for a remote control helicopter. I got so frustrated that I gave up and left. After pondering my frustration for a few hours, I thought "Screw this, they gotta have SOMETHING in that toy store." So I went back and tried again. About to storm out again, I figured, alright, I'll take one last stab and ask the cashier guy even though he hasn't once offered to help me. I ask the man, "Do you have any remote control helicopters?" He goes, "Oh yeah, right behind me. Do you want the small or large one?" What! How the hell was I supposed to know they hid the helicopters BEHIND the 'employees only' cash register desk? Thumbs down to you, Jeffrey's, and all your little overpriced model cars and planes in the front display cases. -

I love this toystore- browsing the aisles makes me feel like a kid again, except that now, I have the ability to buy whichever toy I want rather than begging my parents for it. I have to admit that the last time I was in a toystore, it was the gargantuan Toys 'R' Us located in Times Square. I have nothing against these large chains, but it just doesn't have the intimacy of Jeffrey's.
Here, you can find things as diverse as plastic action figures from "Lost" (I didn't even know they had a line out!) to comics and anime to hand puppets to DIY art projects. I was tempted to buy myself a pinhole camera until I realized I probably wouldn't do all that much with it. The hand puppets are also pretty cool- again, very tempting but probably something that will languish in the corner of my bedroom. They also have some neat collectibles sprinkled throughout the store- some great comic book figurines in the back and then some neat art horses in the front.
I love to browse through the aisles and its neat to discover something new each and every time I go. If you've got children, I'd definitely recommend hitting this store, especially since the holiday season is coming up. -

I have a mini collection of board games. When my family has a get together for whatever occasion I breakout a few to make the time fly by and of course for some family competition.
I usually find all the games I want and then some. I even manage to find enough toys (both fun and educational) to send to my growing nephew. I consider this my one stop shop for kids toys come birthdays and Christmas time. They have stuffed animals, comics books, every board game imaginable, puzzles, origami kits, kites, yards of stickers and miniature models. -

Where in god's name can you find a Sock Monkey in San Francisco?
This place!
Even better, there's little-to-no Bratz, Disney and other plastic crap that I would never let my non-existent children play with.
