I've been a patient of Dr. Dressel's office since about 2003, when I had two unrelated dental emergencies within a year. Dr. Dressel was extremely patient while I asked question after question about my options. And he even figured out why previous procedures had been so painful for me, and made sure I wasn't in pain while he was working. The work he did was flawless.
Since then I've fortunately only had to visit for regular cleanings, and I always end up lingering with his staff for a few minutes, chatting and laughing. Going to Dr. Dressel's office reminds me of going to the dentist in the friendly small town where I grew up. (Only with more up-to-date equipment.) I know this sounds ridiculous, but it's true: I now look forward to going to the dentist. -

When my daughter was diagnosed with 4 cavities from a local children's dentist, I went to Dr. Dressel for a second opinion. He was honest, measured, and gracious with regards to work done by others.
Impressed by his office, chair side manner and personable and efficient front of office staff I became his patient and haven't looked back. He now sees my husband, my 14 year old and other family members.
When I had infections, he was there to walk me through the process, referring me to a great endodontist and taking great care with my new crown. Called me on the weekend to see how I was feeling! A family member had an anxiety attack in his chair and he patiently waited and walked her through it like the pro he is. He suggested that she see a different dentist, but she stayed because he is the best. Skillful, low stress and little or no pain and a Mensch. His hygienists are great, too. -

I just stumbled upon Dr Dressel's Yelp page while I was looking for his website... I wanted to forward Dr Dressels info to a friend in need of a caring, competent dentist. I'm one of those people who has had terrible experiences with dentists in the past and as a result have avoided going to one until a tooth is rotting out of my skull.
I went to Dr Dressel last year after asking around in my neighborhood (Carroll Gardens) for a good local dentist. I found him and his staff to be incredibly friendly, caring and non-judgmental... a real bonus for me because my biggest peeve is getting a lecture about how I need to come in for regular teeth cleanings. Going to the dentist sucks enough without being made to feel like you're an a-hole for not taking care of your teeth.
I liked Dr Dressel and his staff so much that I even wrote a blog post about them.... http://www.virginiaelw... Who the hell writes a blog post about their dentist?! They got me on a regular cleaning schedule and have filled some giant pot holes in my teeth... all without pain to my nerves or my wallet.
It's pretty obvious how rad I think this guy is, so imagine my surprise when I saw a few 1 star reviews of him. I confess that I'm not really a die-hard yelper. I'll occasionally browse it to see if I have any good or bad reviews for my own business, but other than that I prefer good ol' fashioned word of mouth referrals. I'm sorry that those yelpers had a less than stellar experience with Dr Dressel and I get that sometimes you need to vent. But what bums me out about Yelp and other sites like it is the ability it gives people to anonymously gripe about something that could easily be resolved by speaking to the "offender" face to face.
Everyone has off days and we never know the circumstances behind a poor experience.... maybe the restaurant you went to served your food cold because one of the waiters died and now they're short staffed. Or maybe the local flower shop messed up your deliver because the illegal alien they hired got hit by a truck on his bike. Or maybe the woman doing your nails had to rush through grating the dead skin cheese off your foot because her kid got sick at school. Or maybe it's not as morbid as that, maybe it's just that we are all human and it's unrealistic to think that everyone will bend to our needs all of the time.
So cheers to all of the Yelpers who take the time to write positive reviews about small businesses! As word of mouth dies off, those 5 star reviews can make all of the difference. Freedom of speech is a great thing and so is the right to share your thoughts and experiences (good or bad) about a business in a public forum. But how effective is it to bash a business online?
If your goal is to vent, I suppose writing an anonymous review could help you out in the short term. But what about after you've cooled off and forgotten about the negative review you wrote? It's still out there in the google machine potentially affecting everyone who reads it and haunting the business. Life goes on and surely a few one star reviews aren't the end of the world. But for someone like Dr Dressel, who cares so much about his patients and takes such pride in his work, I imagine those negative comments could really f*&k with is head.
So maybe we could all grow a pair and speak up in person when our food is cold or our feet aren't as smooth as a babies butt. Think of how much could actually get resolved... at the very least you can feel good about being mature enough to stand up for your right to good service and at the very best maybe you can help a business to learn and grow from it's mistakes. -

The guy is NICE GUY and has all the up to date material. So he seems pretty cool EXCEPT...
he wanted to do work that was NOT needed. He wanted to do TWO root canals on my teeth. I went to SEVERAL dentists. And every single one said that I did NOT need TWO root canals only ONE. Every single dentist was SURE of this. The tooth he wanted to do a root canal is ALIVE and WELL and Jeffrey Dressel said I should get it done.
I went to the NYU medical center, two other highly rated brooklyn dentists, two in manhattan, and one out of state. That's AT LEAST 6 different dentists (nyu medical was seen by a couple - professors and students). It's dentists like these that end up on those TV Horror shows.
tl;dr: Jeffrey Dressel wanted to do an unnecessary root canal. 6 other dentists confirmed this. -

Do you notice that most if not all of the positive reviews on http://yelp.com are from females, and the negative reviews are generally from the males? I've been going to Dr. Dressel's office for the past 10-12 years. I've noticed a steady decline in the quality of service, promptness and attentiveness, Both from himself and his office staff. He used to work 5 days pers week; then that became 4 days per week, and whether it was 4 or 5 days per week, he didn't work the entire day anyway (8:45am-7pm). Now, he's down to 3 days per week. He doesn't come into the office on Tuesdays and Fridays. Also, if there's a Holiday, his hours are cut back or limited. Ever since he started having children, there's been a steady decline in the quality of service, promptness and attentiveness, Both from himself and his office staff. For example, when Halloween falls on a Mon., Wed., or Thurs. (his current regular days), he'll only "work" until 12pm if he "works" at all. This severely limits the appointments available from which to choose, and in such situations instead of scheduling a much needed appointment during the current week or following week, the appointment will need to be scheduled 3-8 weeks later. I'm definitely dentist shopping. The "services" have especially just gotten worse and worse over the past 3 years. Maybe I'll try Dr. Rosenbaum in Park Slope, as previously recommended by another Yelp Reviewer.

Yep, Dr. Dressel is as good as it gets! I just returned from another pain-free, low-stress visit, and it's finally time to tell others about his work.
I've had several dentists (I have a mouthful of not-so-great teeth) and Dr. Dressel, by far, has been the best. Given the amount of work I've had to have done over the years, I've always been very nervous in the dentist's chair. And I was when I first started going to Dr. Dressel too, even though he came highly recommended by two friends. He and his staff have consistently put me at ease, even during the scariest of treatments - the dreaded root canal! I nearly made myself sick worrying about how badly it was going to hurt (I'd heard horror stories), but in the end, it was wasted energy. Dr. Dressel patiently waited until I was fully numb and emotionally ready to begin, and as he made his way through the procedure, he gave me periodic updates to calm my nerves. He promised at the outset that it wouldn't hurt and it didn't. I've since had another one and again, while I was scared going in, on the way out I thought to myself "Now that wasn't so bad!"
When anyone asks me for a recommendation, I never hesitate. He's the best dentist out there. And in addition to his work, he's a darn nice guy. While I hate the idea of having to go to the dentist, if I must go, then I have to go to him. Dr. Dressel rocks! -

I left Dr. Dressel after a couple of years of being a patient at his office. Professionally I thought the dental care I received at his office was average at best. He did a crown for me that never looked right and has bothered me on and off since he put it in. Personally I found him uptight and condescending. Also, several times I had to dispute the bill and in every case I was in the right.
I am now a patient of Dr Rosenbaum in Park Slope and am much happier with his office, the staff, the work they do and Dr Rosenbaum's professional style which is friendly, relaxed and positive.Comment from Jeffrey D. of Jeffrey Dressel, DDS PC 10/14/2011

I went to Dr. Dressel because of the stellar reviews found here, and I agree 100%. It seems strange to be enthusiastic about a dentist, but I would recommend him to any of my friends, and just gave him a shout-out on facebook. Most people dread going to the dentist, myself included. And yet I actually found myself smiling (through numb lips) on the walk back home.
My cleaning was the best I've ever had- the hygenist cleaned under the gumline. A little uncomfortable, but badly needed. Today I went back for two fillings- Dr. Dressel replaced one that was old and broken, and sealed up an area where the gum had receded. I've had dentists repeatedly skip the broken filling, and I never bothered asking about it. He even went as far as to explain to me what was going on with that tooth. The gumline fill also looks much better (it looks like the real tooth) than the ones I've had done before.
All along Dr. Dressel explained what he was doing, even pointing out the function of the instruments. I've never had a dentist do this, and his approach makes it clear that he cares about his patients and enjoys what he's doing.
The massaging chairs and good music don't hurt either. -

I just came back from my appointment with Dr. Dressel and he was fantastic. I waited for less than five minutes, the hygenist was efficient but thorough, and also quite friendly. The x-ray is done in your chair, the first I have had like that and Dr. Dressel was very kind and informative. I would definitely go back, dentists don't get better than this. And, yes, the massage chair was amazing.

Yelpers have been so great to us!! We were looking for an excellent dentist in our neighborhood, and hit the jackpot!
These great reviews are completely true! State of the art, great work, comfortable and friendly setting. Dr. Dressel is relaxed and natural- which is a relief, since nowadays some dentists are more like salespeople than health care professionals.
I loved my super cleaning appt with Danielle so much- I immediately booked again with her. That's a first time for me, looking forward to my next 6 month appt.
thanks Dressel office! -
Review from Sarah G.
Had an emergency dential situation as a result of too many M&M's (who would have thought) and they were able to fit me in the next day.
The office is really clean, all the people are really nice, and I love the state of the art equipment! Dr. Dressel gave me great advice regarding my options. He talked me through the whole process, was very gentle, and the end result looks (and feels) better then before. I am definitely becoming a regular patient. -

I agree with all of the reviews; I highly, HIGHLY recommend Dr. Dressel! This was my first visit with him (I had a broken crown on my front tooth) and I just had the best experience, which is very odd to say about a dentist visit. I waited for 2 minutes to be seen, the receptionist was a peach (loved her!), the hygienist was really nice, and I couldn't believe how attentive, informative, and friendly Dr. Dressel was. Plus the temporary crown he made me looks perfect, which is a big deal since it's a front tooth. I feel really lucky to have found this dentist, hands down the best.

let me begin by saying that after my morning appointment with dr. dressel yesterday, i was beaming all day long, and told every person i encountered the thrill of my root canal that morning. (yes, everyone, including the guy who was working at trader joe's and needed a new dentist)
echoing everyone before my review, this office was swanky! digital xrays and a small camera stick to take photos of my teeth, which dr. dressel was incredibly clear with explaining. he was relaxed, professional, and knowledgeable, and clearly loves what he does.
the best part? the chair is a massage chair!
and he asked what kind of music i wanted to listen to (they have some sort of everything in the universe digital catalog) so i got to listen to radiohead the whole time.
a-maz-ing. period. -

A few months after I moved to New York I found myself needing a dentist STAT. Most of my friends in the area still saw their dentists at home (i.e. not in the city) and I was at a loss as to how to find a good one in the area... and I was forced to turn to the Internet. I was highly skeptical about using this method to find someone that would eventually be putting sharp objects in my mouth.
I took a chance with Dr. Dressel, and I absolutely love him. I've never met a person that actually likes going to the dentist, but everything about this dental practice makes the experience utterly painless. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the hygienists are efficient and really fast, and Dr. Dressel is absolutely great at what he does. They are always right on time (I've never waited more than 5 minutes past my appointment time), and they really get you in and out. In addition, they are very willing to work with you regarding appointment times, insurance, etc. in a way that (in my experience) is atypical in the medical world. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone. -

I'm a dental-phobe pure and simple. Dr. Dressel was stellar in re-acclimating me to the world of dentistry. I went to see him a few years back and had to undergo major procedures...removal of old implants, and be fitted for a bridge, along with ongoing scalings. Lots of injections, which I recoil in horror from. Dr. Dressel has a wonderful technique and sense of humanity. He took his time with the injections and offered an atmosphere of levity and comfort. The end result was beautiful. The bridge looks completely natural and feels great.
Today I had to make an emergency appointment and received a call back within 30 minutes of my call, to make an appointment for today. The anxiety and trepidation I would generally feel having to go in for a dental appointment is largely mitigated knowing that I'll be in the hands of a highly skilled and caring doctor. If you're seeking a dentist , I'd highly recommend Dr. Dressel. -

One of the best dentists I have ever met. I have alot of "dental experience" and have had many dental procedures to say the least. He really does practice painless dentistry and always has a very calming effect regardless of what he may be doing. Pleasant office, pleasant staff. My sons and husband also see Dr. Dressel.

Best dental experience ever! Back massaging chairs while you get your teeth cleaned? I'll take it! Dr. Dressel and his staff were super friendly, professional, and thorough in their exam and cleaning. They were also understanding of my not having dental insurance and only asked for xrays that I needed, not a full set to help with my costs. Definitely recommended!

In a nutshell. best dental experience....ever? Yeah, I'll go that far. Just in for a cleaning. Doc gave great advice, naturally suggested xrays, but no pressure at all to get them or any additional services. From the initial phone call, to reception, to the cleaning itself, it was a true pleasure to get such competent and congenial service.

dr. dressel blew my mind today. it has been 2 long years since i've been to the dentist and i was terrified to go. but all my fear was in vain-this was the best experience i've ever had at a dentist. his office is lovely, clean and spacious on a beautiful block in cobble hill. i didn't wait a minute for my appointment; 10:45 came and i was immediately whisked to the back for my cleaning. the staff are absolutely lovely, kind, patient and gracious people. my hygienist ella was so fast and efficient and extremely sensitive to my anxiety. dr. dressel himself is totally awesome. you know how sometimes you go to the doctor and you feel like they have allotted you approximately 45 seconds of their time and they act all impatient when you have questions? dr. dressel is the absolute polar opposite of this. he spent a ton of time explaining my xrays, my options, what exactly happens in a root canal, etc. he even offered to email my xrays to my former dentist so that i could get a second opinion on a course of treatment for my big, scary cavities. he is so great that i'm actually ALMOST looking forward to my next appointment.

I hadn't been to the dentist in about 4 years (yikes) when my wisdom teeth started to make an appearance. I knew I had to go to a dentist but I didn't have one in NY. I asked everyone I knew if they had a good one, but apparently NO ONE goes to the dentist. I ended up finding Dr. Dressel online. He's obviously the best kept secret of brooklyn denists because I couldn't really find any reviews (at least when I was looking, over a year ago). The office is in an adorable place that looks straight out of an idyllic suburb. Everyone there is very friendly and I've never had to wait for more than a couple minutes when I've gone. Dr. Dressel is so great! He told me I had to get my wisdom teeth out, and that it was no big deal. My case was probably pretty easy compared to others, but I went back, he took 'em out, told me to take ibuprofen and ice my jaw etc. and I was back to work the next day! I've also gotten a couple cavities filled there and every time I've gone it's been easy and stress free. Also the hygienists are great, very fast. I'm always in and out, but never rushed. I should get some sort of a commission for all the people I've recommended him to! I love this place! Oh, and they call you the day before your appointment to remind you which is awesome, because I'm bad at remembering that sort of thing.
