JB Liquor is, in all honesty, a typical South Austin liquor store with somewhat competitive prices if we were to speak generally since I haven't drank nor compared every beer or liquor bottle out there (thankfully!). Here's what makes JB Liquor stand out in my book:
1-They share a strip mall with Gold's Gym and both are within walking distance. So any guilt of chugging a beer or having a cold, sweet, and loaded with carbs Caipirinha, goes out the window when I have tallied the times I've been to the gym versus the times I've made my liquor run.
2-Back to above mentioned Caipirinha - a Brazilian drink made with a sugar cane rum known as Cachaca, and JB Liquor is by far the cheapest for a bottle of Pitu Cachaca. At $14.99 for a liter, I have yet to find it anywhere else for less. Twin Liquors sells it for $2 more. If you have any questions about Caipirinhas, feel free to contact me - I have become a self-taught quasi-connaisseur on this drink.
3-Their wine selection is a far cry from being extensive but you can come across some wines that have been discontinued elsewhere and you would be impressed by their prices.
4-The wonderful wife-husband team that run the store have since become my spiritual advisors. If you have a few minutes, they will chat it up with you and you'll walk away with a good bottle/six pack and some good conversation or general advice.
Cheers!
