I had seen this place on my way home from work several times.  So one Sunday morning, burned out on the breakfast places nearby we decided to go on out to Jay's Cafe and also stop at the fruit stand a little way further down the road.

From the outside, Jay's looks like a good ol' American diner.  And really, that's what it seems to strive for.  It'd only be more of a diner if it was actually built in a boxcar, which sadly, it is not.  Inside, the place is a little bit chaotic, but generally seemed clean to me.  The food was good and the service was friendly.  The menu consists of the basic diner food standbys with no surprises.  I had a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream which was alright, but nothing exceptional.  The portions are pretty big and the check was pretty small.  Jay's is not a place I'd make a special trip to go to, but it wasn't too bad and I would happily stop by again if I happened to be passing by and was hungry.

Jay's is great for breakfast.  The can get a little busy on the weekends but the food is always served quickly.  The pancakes taste like butter, and the rest of the food is good too.

The prices are standard for this type of restaurant, as are the menu items.

Just went there with my son and his GF for lunch.  Looking for a good burger place in Kenmore.  This diner(?) reminds me of some greasy spoons I have eaten at in the past.

We all ordered Jays Cheeseburger (5.99).  My son and I upgraded to 1/2 pound patties (.99) and bacon (another .99) .  I had salad, they had fries.  His GF asked for NO ONIONS.

We all got a cheeseburger with onions, tomatoe & lettuce.  The salad was starting to get a bit on the wilty side.  Their fries were frozen, packaged crinkle fires.  **Wonder if they picked them up at Grocery Outlet, down the street?**

The cheeseburgers were tasty, almost as good as Kidd Valley - maybe we should have driven down the street.

I kinda agree with Adrienne H's assessment.  We were seated at a table where there was still a tip sitting and a couple of place settings.  The waitress brought another place setting, picked up the tip, but didn't wipe down the table.  (OK, I am picky, but I own a pizza place and we make sure tables are wiped down and old place settings, napkins, etc. are removed.)

I would give them 3 stars on the Cheeseburger flavor, but they lose some on the salad, and cleanliness.

As the previous reviewer posted, Excellent Hash Browns, yes - but HEALTHY isnt on the menu here.
And neither is soap/dishrags/bleach or cleanliness of any sort.
The plates/glasses/silverware had a slimy film on them, and strangely enough, the tables and chairs seemed to have the same grimey feel.
I ordered eggs benedict, which was ok if you like 6 cups of bland hollindaise on your eggs/ham and muffin.
It lacked spice of any sort - I could have added some salt and pepper, but I was too afraid to touch the shakers.
Jay's is on our "Do Not Return" list.  It baffles me that ANYONE would give this more than 2 stars.  It makes Denny's look like Canlis.

Looking for some Good Home Style Food????
You have come the the right place. Jay's is a good little Dinner. I have visited the place twice. And both times the food was good. I would recommend the burgers and desert made fresh on the spot. I have to say the other food has only been fair but for the price , it beats another cafe place "hands down" near 405 and 527 highway. Coming from Texas I am use to having many home style restaurants and each serves the TEXAS Sized portions so I was a little disappointed when I ordered the country fried steak and it was the size of a normal hamburger patty " Not that I need the extra portion" but overall the taste was good and the meat was tender. The service is great with friendly smiles. The overall atmosphere takes you back to more simple days and the majority of the clientele are from that time period but that is what gives it the charm it has. In fact, there were two grumpy old men seated behind me who were complaining about one thing or another "I think they were regulars" but the waitress kept her smile and waited on them with the same warmth and cheer as she did with me. So if you are hunger and not counting those calories this is a good alternative for those days you just feel like some good comfort food.

I love this little cafe...  Always very friendly.  And you know how cute old people are!  This place is like their hang out... expecially on the weekdays.  My boyfriend and I were on or way home one early morning and stopped here... It was perfect!  We have loved it ever sense.
It depends on what you order how healthy it is, as always.  And i loved the eggs benedict (its like my favorite breakfast!).  I am a coffee snob, known to not drink any coffee but starbucks...  And surprisingly their coffee is pretty good.
