I have been waiting for a while to try this place out because it looks like it is full most of the time (good sign). I went with a group of 7 and they did let us sit even though there were some late birds, which already made me like the place. The decor was bistro style with the white and black honeycomb tile and the dark wood walls.
Service: Impeccable! One of my friends believe it or not drank 7 beers and then he was arguing with the waitress about it not being possible. I was so embarrassed, but the waitress handled it in stride and did not give us attitude when his girlfriend set things straight. They get upped one star for dealing with that! Waitress also paired up wines PERFECTLY!
Food: Wine list was wonderful and had many Napa & Sonoma wines.
The food was really done well and was very fresh. The pork was to die for. Also tried a bit of the duck pot pie. Did not like that one so much because it had too many mash potatoes in the dish. Cheese was very good with the fresh bread.
So, the first visit was with my buddies for dinner. Tami was our server and we promptly told her we were all Jayne virgin customers. We got great serve and a great server. When your servers know the menu well and can give you details and favs on what they like, that is a big plus. We loved it so much that we decided to add it on to one of our Tour de Pub bike ride stops.
2nd visit on the Tour de Pub, Tami and Jayne(owner) were there and sure enough, they remembered us. (See photos) He's gonna kill me (forgot his name) but our bartender was someone that remembered me from another restaurant. He was great. Served up tall Trumer Pils to all of us on our 4th pub stop. We had an amazing burger with sweet onions and Vermont cheddar, fries and the shrimp appetizer. The burger was good we debated the infamous question we all had been asking about where was the best burger in town. As a gourmet burger, it was exceptional. We needed to try it out again just to make sure it wasn't the Tour de Pub heat and ride talking.
3rd visit....still great service, mood and food. For those who go to restaurants and sit back and don't engage with your servers, you'll never have a good experience. We have come back over several visits and weeks and they still remember. Hats off to Jayne for having a great staff. Whenever I see low stars on reviews, I have to say is it the quality of the food or are you a patron that is already looking for the wrong in everything. Eatery experiences should be lived and engaged in..and eat locally. (Support local business')
Jayne's is on our list of great small local restaurants. Their garden in the back is beautiful. Next visit, summer dinner in the garden.

I loved the ambiance inside, and I loved it even more when we were seated on the back patio. There was something about the lemon trees and lights that I really dug.
However, it was very expensive and none of us were blown away by the food. My chicken was overcooked and I quickly regretted not ordering the fish and chips. I'll go back again just to try that dish. I went with a group of friends, but it would be an amazing date place.

I agree with T-Spoon on this one. The place is very, very well decorated and put together, the staff is AMAZING. The service is increditable, very professional and NOT your typical So Cal service with attitude. These people KNOW how to treat their guests. If anything, go here for the great service and lovely, simple surroundings. The food, okay- Frank the Tank thinks that the Fish and Chips at The Ritual are much better so I have to take him tonight to make up for the dinner last night. I thought that my calimari was decent, better than what I have had a Vagabond's.
Another good thing, they have Chimay on DRAFT!!! Unbelievable!
This place is very, very pricey, more so than The Linkery. It is a good thing for us that we got our 900.00 check from Uncle Sam yesterday.... Thank you IRS for the dinner! ( Also, made the Tank a little on the frisky side so it is allllll good! )
I probably won't go out of my way to come here again.

I went here last night... a good spot for the second date (which it was). They have a great selection of beer on tap, and an immense wine list. The atmosphere had a very eclectic feel, and great lighting. We sat outside (on a chilly night) but with the heaters it was actually quite nice, and we had the entire space to ourselves!
I ordered the pecan crusted albacore tuna steak with saffron flavored couscous. It was incredible. I ate the entire thing! The couscous was oddly large, but still very good. The waiter did a great job of being there enough to make sure we had everything we needed, yet left us alone enough to make it a very personal experience. This is a great date spot, plus Air Conditioned is right next door, so if you want to hang out a bit later... you don't have to go far.
I would actually give this 4.5 stars... but that wasn't an option, so I decided to go up. Yes, it was that good.

It was my turn to pick a place for dinner club so we went here mainly on the recommendations of some of my favorite yelpers. I knew the space was small, so we scaled back to only 4 of us, which is probably the largest group you would want to have here.
First of all, they have an excellent beer and wine selection. I fell in love with the Delerium that I tried the night before at Neighborhood and was delighted that Jayne's has it. Everyone took my cue so it was a round of Delerium for all.
We had a couple of appetizers - the gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp, you gringos) and the white bean crostini. The gambas were in this awesome garlic/pepper concotion that was perfect for the bread that came with the dish. The white bean crostini had good texture and tasted great as well.
I ordered the Pork Tenderloin while my friends ordered the Pecan Crusted Ahi Tuna, the Short Ribs, and the special of the day - an Alaskan halibut. All of us enjoyed our meals - and we all tried everyone else's, much to our satisfaction. The special came with smoked potatoes which were really different in a good way. The short ribs were so tender and flavorful. As for my entree, the pork was cooked correctly with a little bit of pink and came with a wonderful sauce along with a mango/raisin chutney. It came on a bed of green and wax beans and fingerling potatoes.
So did we have dessert? Of course we did. I got the butterscotch creme brulee - it was creamy and was extra good with the butterscotch going on. They serve gelato from Gelato Vera - my friend's brownie came with the vanilla (probably the best flavored vanilla I have ever had). They also had the strawberry gelato which was heavenly.
Service was attentive and I really dug the atmosphere. (Outside is very romantic - highly recommended for those summer evening dates.)
Overall, a standout spot for a nice dinner.

Fish and Chips ROCKS!! Prepared exactly as they should be. Nice design and interior. Friendly staff. Good service and value. That's the down and dirty. The other reviews pretty much cover the situation at Jayne's. No need to beat a dead horse :)

Thames on 30th
Need an escape from the hyper-modern downtown scene to old country quaint? Jayne's Gastropub - yes, that's Jayne with a 'Y' on 30th Street just saved you the airfare. The intimate, euro-styled bistro features a cozy bar, an open kitchen, and a menu worthy of discerning foodies. Open Tuesday through Saturday, the lines have already started.

I had a date at Jayne's last weekend. It put such a nice close on a really enjoyable Saturday.
Once I stepped inside, I was hit with warm, fuzzy feelings. My date introduced me to Jayne who was so charming and warm. She sat us at the bar while a table was being cleared.
I took to quizzing the bartender on the wine. He was more than patient with my onslaught of questions. I was very pleased with the Oregon Red that was finally selected after a few tastings (which turned into one funny guessing game-----it was the same in both glasses, no, different, i liked the first best, ok, wait, which was the first?!).
Post wine selection, We were seated in the back at a quaint table for two. The lighting was perfect---soft, subtle glow. . . very complementary to your features when sitting so close and cozy.
The crowd was appealing---intimate groups lingering over wine and dessert . Our reservation was at 9.15 so by this time the dinner boom had clearly subsided. (I've mentioned before how much I love late night dining especially when it involves good wine. It brings me back to when I lived in Europe.)
In retrospect, I realize that I could have selected any of the entrees off the menu and would have been more than happy. I definitely like limited menus----it is key to making the statement : "The few things we do, we have mastered." I went with the traditional steak frites. My date got the pork tenderloin---the special for the night. To start he selected the calamari. I am usually the last person on this earth who would order and eat this as an appetizer. I am not one for appetizers that are fried. Normally, I opt for ruffage as a starter to my meal. That night, I put aside all my prejudgments and went with it -------delicious. I can foresee cravings for Jayne's calamari in the future and might change my lettuce-only for an appetizer approach.
At the meal's finish, our plates were practically licked clean. We shared bites of each others' entrees---enjoying every taste. What an indulgence!
We were stuffed, but I insisted on dessert after the very friendly waitress walked by with a fresh slice of chocolate cake and ice cream. ----I know----I know ----the title of this dessert is clearly not 'cake and ice cream' but carries of label with some finesse---- I just pointed to what the waitress was carrying and requested, "may I please have that?"
It was such an ideal first date. Yes, to #2?!

Is good, no? Tasty pub food from around the globe, with an up scale twist. Quality ingredients, good service, and a hip bistro atmosphere. A wining formula.
This place offers delectable bistro fare, superb belgium beer on tap, uber-hipster ambiance, and refreshingly warm service. It feels perfectly conducive to enjoying an unhurried dinner with friends within an interesting, inviting setting. Oh and the steak pom frites came with a beautiful cut of meat. I shall return . . .

Jayne's is amazing. It's simple and has a friendly, warm and relaxing vibe and aboveall, the food is damn tasty. I like Jaynes b/c its not fussy, not trying to be anything its not or attempt to please everyone. Jayne focuses on what matters most... the food. I wanted to order everything on the menu, always a good sign. You can tell they use quality ingredients, everything I tasted was delicious. The staff was terrific and it wasnt overpriced. I really fell for this place, I will definitely be returning to the lovely Jayne's.

Took a friend here last night and had a really good time. The place has a great vibe and was buzzing with energy on a drizzly evening. I used to eat here for lunch when it first opened and would always get the white bean crostini appetizer. Luckily it is still on the menu and is as good as I remember; the vinegared peppers are fantastic!
For my entree, I had the albacore tuna on a bed of Israeli couscous while my friend had the linguine carbonara. Both dishes were excellent although the orange colored sauce is slightly disconcerting yet really tasty. Finished the meal off with a warm chocolate brownie that was really well done, not too sweet and not too bitter. I can't say the same for the creme brulee which was just OK.
The wait staff is very attentive and our server was fun and had great suggestions for my finicky friend. One thing is that the place was slammed so the food took a little while to come out. Luckily with the large mirrors situated around the dining room (very useful!) and a nice French Pinot Noir I was quite content.

I had been meaning to try this place for quite some time after hearing some good reviews. Also, a friend of mine works here so I really had no reason to delay a visit any longer.
We arrived around 8pm on a Friday night and the place was full but not packed. Overall the place has a nice vibe and ambiance to it and the staff greeted us warmly. I started off with a nice Belgian beer, of which they have a nice little selection to choose from. For an appetizer they brought us out some prawns sauteed in chili, garlic, and butter. Deliciously spicy! For my main course I decided to try their special for the night which was a Duck Shepherds pie. It was good but it felt like it was missing something so I wasn't completely satisfied with the dish. I still ate it all however. I also sampled some of my friend's hamburger and pomme frites which were great.
The service was excellent (you rule Tammy!). They all greeted us warmly and were quick and courteous. I'll definitely be making a return trip to Jayne's.

If you haven't yet? Then try it! This gastropub,if you will, is tasty as all get out! I think the "treat you like a friend" service is a trickle down effect from the owner Jayne. Super friendly and personable. We spoke with her as we had a beer and waited for our table. Cool Lady! I'm not going to beat you over the head with comments, simply put: great food + great beers +happy servers = slap happy customers.
My OMG moment was the burger. Thats right the hamburger. I was taking pieces of the bun and dabbing up the burger juice off the bottom of the plate. What the 'F'?
I went to Jayne's with a friend and my lady last summer, after getting back from going around Paris, Palma and Barcelona for two weeks. Let me just say, I know everyone has different experiences and therefore "authenticity" is a relative term that has no real meaning yadda yadda yadda--the outdoor dining made me feel at least a little bit back in Europe. It's gorgeous at night.
And the best part was, after traveling around out of the states for a bit...I completely forgot I'd be carded when I got back. And the staff didn't make me feel like a teenager trying to sneak into an R movie, which was greatly appreciated. Hopefully I'll be back soon, ID in hand!
Hmm.. where to start on this one?
First, they've got a pretty good selection of wine. We started with a decent Super Tuscan for a reasonable price. Starting out pretty good.
Waitress did an excellent job of describing the specials with language that really enticed you - extra bonus points for that. She made everything sound REALLY good.
Then we ordered the calamari, which I had heard good things about. BLEH! Very, VERY greasy, and the oil tasted like it hadn't been changed in a month. And the coloration of the batter was very dark which kind of throws you off (they look over-done but they're not).
I'm not really one to complain, but we did on this particular order. The waitress said, "Gee, we've been sending that out all night with no complaints!" which is basically a non sequitur. Maybe the other people didn't have the balls to complain. (shrug)
But they did offer to switch it out for the gambas, which was FANTASTIC by the way! Go figure.
So with all the switch-a-roo on the appetizers, I think our entrees got lost because we were there for about 90 minutes before we actually got the entrees served.
I had the Steak Frites and she had the salmon. Me personally, growing up in Seattle, I won't order salmon (except as sushi) anywhere, because it can never compare to salmon that was swimming in the ocean 8 hrs before.
Needless to say, the salmon was a MAJOR disappointment, even for her less-than-picky standards. Not fresh, VERY fishy.. disgusting in my opinion (and I L-O-V-E seafood.. eat it at least 3-4 times a week).
So we complained about that as well - they offered to take that back, but we just said 'skip it'. They ended up taking it off our bill which pleased me. I ended up giving her a 30% tip on a $140 bill.
The flat iron steak was pretty damn good (and so were the fries but I couldn't finish them).
So mixed results. Pretty good service, excellent management standing behind their product and trying to make it right.
I definitely will go back and try the burger (with a delicious Trumer Pils!).

wow yelp just erased my entire review. nice
ok fine I will keep it brief.
service was snappy, friendly and efficient
the wine the server suggested based on what I like was excellent (some wine from french alps that I couldnt pronounce)
the shrimp starter dish was excellent as well. Shrimp in little iron with olive oil and kinda spicy with peppers. served with good bread. That was a perfect little meal or snack.
Decor is a little strange. Mostly white interior with random white stone deer heads on the walls. Elk horn theme. Bar is super tiny. Dining room looks like made for little people but could probably hold a lot of people for it's size. It is kind of dim and bleak in there in a nice way. Sometimes the flames from the chef light up the room in the evening. I like small details like that.
Wish they had some more beers on their list. Some decent ones but they need something unique to their establishment. Some more English beers would be nice. This place feels more French than British. Hard to really tell what they are going for. Maybe Jayne is indecisive? But she does it well and it is a unique place.
I will return for further investigation, hopefully with a couple people because this isnt really a place to just wander in by yourself. Or maybe just not me. Im not sure if I am classy enough for this place, but I like it anyway so far.
this was a tough decision: three or four stars. i had to go with three as it was the food that underwhelmed me. with a limited menu and moderately high prices, i expected the dishes to be of higher quality. i do believe the ingredients are high quality, but it seemed to be in the preparation that something was lost.
i had the mixed greens salad (with blood oranges, goat cheese and shallot vinaigrette), and there really was too much dressing on it. for a while, i tried to convince myself that the dressing amount was ok as i wanted to like it so much. i gave up eventually. however, the dressing was excellent and the greens were fresh. another negative point, there were only three microscopic blood oranges. honestly, the dish came out looking like a pile of soggy, but perky greens.
my entree (grilled polenta and seasonal vegetables) had high and low points as well. the polenta was excellent. the amount of vegetables was staggering. however, the seasonal vegetables were overcooked and didn't really go well together. a more selective choosing of the vegetables might have been easier to prepare (avoid overcooking) and tasted better.
my husband fared a bit better with his choices. he had the gambas al ajillo as an appetizer, and it was quite good. i believe it was four or five shrimp for $13.50--not a large amount but a nice size. his pork special (i forget what cut) entree--well, he loooooved it. he's not one to suck meat off the bones (ever), but he did that night. as it was his birthday dinner, i was really pleased.
as for wine--my $11/glass zinfandel was kick-ass. i'm not a zinfandel expert, but i guessed jayne's would do a good job at picking their wine selection.
as for service--couldn't have been better. our server was just excellent.
as for ambiance--it's a nicely decorated, cozy space with a tin ceiling (i think), tiled floor and various items on the wall (flag, mirrors, other stuff i can't remember). however, all the hard surfaces do make the small space a bit noisy. i know that mirrors give the illusion of a bigger space, but they are so horrible for sound. a friend of mine who is learning about architectural acoustics could do well consulting restaurants on how to tame their sound levels.
i certainly would go back for a glass of wine, but i think i'll hold off on the food for a while.

I wanted to give Jayne's four stars, but I couldn't do it. Jayne's is a 4 star place that delivers a 5 star experience on occasion. Go Jayne's.
I went two weeks ago with the same assemblage of former co-worker (Paul P.) and former boss that makes for ridiculous times. We sat at one of the tiny, tiny little barstool tables that faces out onto 30th street, and laughed our heads off four about 2 hours while I enjoyed a delicious Boddington's Chocolate Stout (although it was bottled, I would've been so happy had it been draught, but that's a LOT to ask) and amazing South African peppers. After 7:30 hit, the place was suddenly packed, and a very annoying couple blocked our access to the rest of the place--which can be a problem if you ever want to go to the bathroom. The snarky glares they gave us for daring to disturb their date were equally annoying.
However, we had additionally awesome company too. I ran into two other yelpers and two people from UCSD. Strange night. The serving staff are professional, courteous, and very friendly, even after former boss gets a little tipsy, and rather loud. So they win extra points for that. The layout of the restaurant, although a bit crammed, it extraordinarily classy; tiled floors, nice touches--even a framed copy of the Atlantic Charter signed between Roosevelt and Churchill (however, thinking about Nazis always throws off my appetite--just a note, Jayne's).
The food was quite good too. Paul had a delicious order of the fish and chips which was the best I'd ever had. I in turn, loved the mushroom ravioli dish. It was a great opportunity to try a new restaurant that made delicious food with top-quality ingredients. Tasty job, Jayne's.
When it's a touch warmer, I'd love to be able to sit out on the back patio and enjoy the ambiance--and more of that damn chocolate stout.
The overcrowding would've cost Jayne's a star, but the awesome service (particularly as one member of our party got a little...enthusiastic via beverage), you're right back up to 5 stars, Jayne. Your Gastropub is delicious, well-managed, and a delight to have.
We're so glad you're in the neighborhood!

With the Union Jack and Atlantic Charter as decor, I couldn't figure out what to make of this place. The patio was nice, intimate and lovely to sit in as the sun set and the candles were lit.
The menu looked good, but the sauce accompanying my halibut sort of taste like KETCHUP. And the calamari was too breaded for my tastes. Minor details, yes but I'm willing to give this place another try, and I like that it's presence in NH is trying to get rid of the 'rough around the edges' feel of the neighborhood. This block could really use it.

It was not hard at all to give it 5 stars! I love little Jayne's, they treat me like family when I sit at the bar sipping my selected wine from comical Jon- Jayne's fiance. I start off the white bean cristini bread appetizer- It was great, warm grilled bread with a nice little spread, simple yet quite elegant. I ordered the burger and fries, I chatted up with my friend who is pretty picky about her food, she got the burger too. The food was served, what a site it was. The burger was oozing on the plate and the aroma was nice. We both took a bite and fell in love with the juicy burger, crunchy pickled onions, melted Vermont cheese and of course, the shoe string fries. We both had another glass and soaked up the candle lit, warm atmosphere of Jayne's. Our service was pretty good, she took care of us. We had no room for the dessert but what we saw coming out was quite the look of a satisfying dessert!! It was not loud- everyone was just talking. It was moderate money out of my pocket but I got my meal didn't I? Overall, I will be there again.

Let me preface this by saying that I was raised on hearty gastropub-type fare (Irish-British beef dishes and seafood), am a raging beer snob, and spent the last eleven years eating my way through New York City, which all adds up to Not Easily Impressed. Not saying I have the most refined palate or elevated tastes, but this kind of stuff is right in my wheelhouse and I am inclined to be even more critical than usual. Which is very, very critical.
That said - Jayne's absolutely knocked me out with the most phenomenally well-cooked, perfectly balanced, and flavorful braised beef dish I have eaten in my 28 years, the first 18 of which were spent eating such dishes nearly every night (sorry Dad). I hesitate to attempt further description, I was so bowled over. To me succeeding so wildly at something so simple - basically a beef stew over garlic potatoes - is far better than failing at something more adventurous, like so many places are wont to do, especially in a culinary scene eager to prove itself against other major cities'.
My partner's fish and chips were no slouch either, hitting all the classic's good points without any of the expected bad parts, like heaviness or greasiness.
I could have done better with my beer pairing, but was excited about the prospect of one of my favorite styles of beer (Aventinus doppelbock, much better for game and cured/smoked pork flavors) on draught and chose it over the far more suitable Guinness.
There was definite room for improvement in the space and menu. The beer menu, while providing an adequate range of pairings for the entrees, was a bit small for my tastes. IMO a gastropub's wine list should not exceed its beer list by a factor of 3x. The tile floors reminded me of a bathroom in a NYC studio apartment and created a giant fucking echo chamber as the space began to fill up with what seemed like San Diego's Loudest Diners.
That's all I can spare for this review. I am out of run-on sentences and recalling this experience is making me hungry. I'll part with some advice - book early, or else risk having your meal ruined by the migraine-inducing roar that overtakes the oddly-shaped space after 7:30-8pm.

Eric O. (or EOB, as I prefer to call him) really said it all. This place is a jewel and became one of my very favorite places in San Diego upon first bite. It was total sensory heaven- I couldn't believe how amazing the braised beef ribs, calamari, and sea bass fish n' chips were. Seriously, this ranks even better than some recent dining experiences in New York- the food here definitely topped Perilla (the new hotspot run by Harold Dieterle, winner of the first Top Chef) by its sheer deliciousness and its far kinder prices.
I must say, the SD restaurant scene is far better than I ever expected (just moved here last year), but Jayne's really is a standout.
My only tip: more beer, please! this is a gastropub, not a wine bar. Add a few more British ales, at least one German marzen, and some more west coast microbrews, and I'd be in heaven.

actually 3.5 stars...here my take on this...Been twice, once very recently and previously about 6 months ago. The first time I had the short ribs and was very disappointed. The "gravy" tasted like knorr Swiss brown gravy mix powder (did they run out of beef stock?). The mashed potatoes were bland and the fish and chips mediocre. On my last visit, my friend had the short ribs (I warned her) and she also was not impressed. She also tried the french onion soup which was so bland I was thankful that there was salt and pepper already on the table. OK, so that was the bad, what I did have that rocked my world was the steak frites. Its a simple dish, I know, but often times not well executed. This one was so well seasoned, super flavor full , tender and the fries were skinny, crisp and well seasoned. Kudos on that dish. I may be a regular just for the steak. Although at 22.00, not that regular.

If you haven't been, you are blowing it!
Jayne's is the perfect neighborhood restaurant. really. Great wine, better beer and an incredible staff. Everybody actually wants to be there and it shows. With almost no exeptions, Jayne herself is there pouring wine, seating people and just being cool. Thanks to Jon, the music is out of hand good too, which is rare!
I dont know too many places that have Chimay on tap, which is perfect with their burger, although last week I had the burger with a bottle of Chateau Neuf and I must say that it doesnt really get much better than that! It has some incredible pickled onions on top and the beef is Niman, so you know its all good! You must have...the white bean puree, the gambas al ajillo shrimp app, the short ribs, the burger and the steak frites. This place is perect date spot and if you just want a glass o vino and a bite, the bar is awesome. go, go, go!
I had the best burger I have ever had in my life last night at Jayne's. Everything was perfect - the meat was perfectly cooked, the cheese was melted just right, the lettuce was top notch, the onions were sweet and the seasame seed bun was slightly toasted and light. a-maz=ing!
It is loud in there and the service is a little slow, so I gave it four stars. But the food---everything I've had has been incredible! Especially the burger!
Check it out...
Actually 4.5 stars. We were house sitting in Kensington back in Sept. and found out about Jayne's on Yelp. What a great little find in the sea of huge chain restaurants that dominate the S.D. scene. Being from the SF bay area, I was very pleased to find a great neighborhood restaurant.
We had the whole family so we got to try quite a few things from the menu. It was all great. My 10 year old daughter devoured the short ribs, I had the Steak Frites which was perfect, my wife had scallops which were a special, and I believe my son had the fish and chips. Everything was excellent.
We chatted it up with John and Jayne for a while about the bay area etc., and they are cool folks. Props to John for donning the Niners Sweater! We will definately be back next time we are in SD.
Jayne's Gastropub is a diamond in the rough. I would have never thought to look for such a charming little restaurant sitting across the street from Antique Row Cafe and Kadan, but there it was. *Cue angelic music*
We walked in without a reservation on a Friday night. The wait for a table was 45 minutes so we took a seat at the bar. I normally don't like sitting at the bar for dinner, but I would definitely be happy to be back at the bar at Jayne's. The bartender was so warm and friendly that we didn't even miss not sitting in the dining room. The thing that struck me the most about Jayne's (besides the delicious food) was how inviting the ambiance was. It definitely feels like your neighborhood diner, gone upscale, but not in a snooty, exclusive sort of a way. The staff made everyone feel at home and well taken care of. There was a woman sitting alone a few bar stools down from us and before we left she'd been invited to join a group of other diners who just met her while waiting for a table. It's that kind of place.
The food was excellent. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! It seemed that every conversation I overheard was about food. Jayne's patrons love food, which is, of course, a good sign.
Their back patio will be opening in the next few weeks so there will be more seating options. I look forward to many more dining experiences at Jayne's Gastropub.

Ok. San Diego, stop it now. You keep surprising me with these cute, cozy, hidden gems of a restaurant.
The girlfriend and I went here for dinner on a busy Friday night but was able to get a seat at the nice and comfy bar section even though tables were full. I had the special .. a blue fin tuna grilled on some israeli couscous. Perfectly cooked. Washed it all down with my favourte fat tire beer on tap. The girlfriend had the fish and chips. Delicious!
The ambiance is excellent. Sitting at the bar, you get a bird's eye view of the kitchen and the chefs at work... very mesmerizing for a wanna-be foodie like me.
This place is making into my top 10 list of best restaurants in San Diego!

I've been procrastinating on reviewing places I love because I don't want them spoiled but I decided I should not do Jane and John that injustice. Jayne's bar is like my personal dining room table, only there are always fresh flowers and I don't have to cook or clean. The service is amazing, food incredible, they have a fantastic wine and beer list, and best of all the owners and servers are fantastic and really care about their patrons and the neighborhood. Every detail at Jayne's is perfection. The menu always has some new items, and the chefs (In my head I call them the "bald guy and the chick in the baseball hat" sorry guys) consistently nail their classic signature dishes. I love the tile floor which reminds me of my grandmother's (that I understand John installed) and the zinc bar. My favorite dishes are the White Bean Crostini, Steak Frites (the salsa verde which is more akin to a chimichurri is the perfect pairing with the steak), the Fish and Chips, and you MUST try the Butterscotch Creme Brulee with a cappuccino. Every person I've brought here has loved it. I eat here regularly and to be 100% honest, I have had a few dishes that were quite good but didn't blow my mind - but I can't dock a star for that. In general, they shine! Just go there. You will love it.

Crazy Jayne.
A very white boxy kinda cold exterior?? Don't be fooled. The food is full of warmth and LOVE my friends. Is that possible in a Euro theme?
Casual yet clean atmosphere. It's inviting.
A gorgeous bar that beckoned us to drink, drink, drink one Thursday afternoon. I was all about showing this East Coast Boy with a funny accent why San Diego is finally coming around!
Wine, beer, bubbly. Yay Champagne. Jayne is on to me. I love it.
Food-wise, be prepared to drop the duckets in the name of experimentation. Niman Ranch beef? Newcastle Ale battered Sea Bass? Sign me up. I'm wondering what farmer's market their chef shops at. The menu reads like one. You can see that they try their best for quality, local and maybe even organic products and not in a dirty hippy kinda way.
The food was tasteful. I have gone twice and it's been pretty consistent. This is a good sign.
Vegetarians can have a field day filling up on the appetizer and dessert menu if they aren't digging the polenta/eggplant main course. Carnivore's are the real winners here though. Be appreciative of the Niman Ranch Beef. It's delicious.
Interesting desserts. I thought the butterscotch creme brulee was ballsy. It got rave reviews from the Yankee. I'll wait and see. Champagne had already taken a hold of me - and I LIKED IT!!!!

Agreed... this place is tasty and the decor is very French. It reminds me of Mon Ami Gaby, the sidewalk cafe at Hotel Paris.
The tiles are those cute little white octagons with black grout. lighting is flattering.
I ordered a bottle of wine, and the waitress asked me how I liked it. I didn't like so I said "Next time I will try something else." Um... yeah... she didn't like that response judging from her expression.
