I love this place!! Such a homey and cozy place and the employees are always nice  and welcoming! The atmosphere is so nice to relax, study, etc. and the drinks are always delicious, my favorite is their white chocolate mocha.

Their entertainment nights are always fun, especially Open Mic night on Tuesdays (great music!!) and they  serve beer and wine. Needless to say I always enjoy my visit =]

Never knew how cool this place was until I happened to stop by one day for a smoothie. I really like the atmosphere and the comfy seating area! I ordered a mango smoothie and turkey sandwich. It was tasty.

I love coffee shops and I'm feelin' this place- not many original places like this in YL's. I think I will come back more often!

    This place is pretty good.
I'm only saying pretty good because it's not my absolute favorite, but it's definitely up there.
The reason why I like it is because they have great coffee and great pastries... even though i don't eat those normally. But the coffee is to die for. Freshly brewed. Very tasty.
This place would be ideal for someone who wants to do homework or work on a portfolio. It's a nice cafe and its nice and quiet. They have nice comfortable couches to sit on and plenty of tables and chairs.
I know they serve wine and beer there, I'm assuming during the evening, but I've never had it so I can't review that.
I've had both breakfast and lunch there, both really fresh and tasty.
Overall I give this place an "A-OK"
I'd go back, but its not my absolute favorite.

What more could you ask of a coffee shop? Great menu, friendly staff, free wi-fi, live music. Java Joe's has it all! I played a show here one Friday evening, and everyone was incredibly helpful in setting up and breaking down. I've also been to Java Joe's as a customer and can vouch that their chai tea latte is the best I've had.

I went here twice today - No I'm not addicted it just kinda happened.

But what I can say is I am addicted to is their peanut butter frappaccino. It's just pure bliss. If you like the combination of chocolate and peanut butter you will definitely love this drink. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Java Joe's has great atmosphere and the employees have never been rude to me, and on the weekends they have live performances of different musical groups.

Overall, it's a great place and I'm glad they didn't close for good cause I love me some of that peanut butter drank ;D

When the power went out in my house last weekend and I desperately needed to find internet for a meeting, Java Joe's saved me. (THANK YOU!)

Java Joe's has a great selection of coffee and tea, but the reason Java Joe's stands out in my mind is its seating area.  It has large tables to spread out and do homework, plenty of outlets to plug in your laptop and enjoy the free wi-fi, and nice couches to sit and enjoy the live music.  I like that I was able to stick around for hours doing work without anyone giving me a dirty look for spending too much time in their establishment.

I'm cranky today so excuse the below :)  But seriously, if you are going to take the time to review at least make it constructive.

Some of the below negative reviews are a bit mystifying.  Knocking a place because you don't carry cash and another establishment charges you a fee to withdraw?  Using cancer sticks and worrying about your view (in a few years I think you may have larger problems than a parking lot view)?

Furthermore, if you order something and didn't like it, please let us know if you asked for it to be remade.  Knocking a place because the coffee seemed burnt doesn't tell us anything.  If you accepted burnt coffee without returning it, frankly you are the one who should get 2 stars.  Everyone makes mistakes; I want to know if the staff tried to make it better or did you just sit meekly and stew over it so you could go on Yelp and rip them?

So guess what kids, I will actually do a review that takes into account what Java Joe's has control over, and the parking lot or your failure to carry adequate funds isn't it.

Java Joe's has a diverse selection of music acts...that's what has drawn me here several times.  And isn't that one of the things a place like this should do well?  Be a community gathering place.

Now I don't drink coffee, but, I have enjoyed the hot chocolate and various pastries; all have been fine.  The wine selection could use a bit of improvement, and they need to chill the whites a few degrees cooler, but, I was happy with the drinkability of a few of the choices and at least it is one of those rare places where both adults and kids (my son enjoyed our visit this past Saturday) can go and hang out together.

Finally, on my visits the staff has been great.  Cute, friendly girls who actually thank you when you tip them.  They open the wines for you and bring the bottles to your table plus the glasses are better than expected.

So, 5 stars for entertainment, 5 stars for service, 3.5 stars for wine.  Java Joes: you are an eclectic coffee shop, have eclectic wine choices to match and lower the temperature on your wine fridge.  Or, charge a $10.00 corkage fee so I can bring my own wine.

Coffee and Wine in one place? This must be the Fry's of Coffee Houses.  I rolled into the joint and saw what looked like cougar run off from the Fox Fire drinking one bottle of wine between 5 ladies.  Very weird vibe and my mocha coffee was $4.50...guess I should have drank wine instead.  You have gone too far this time Java Joes.

One last thing, my friend got a cookie that had the sour taste of a lime popsicle and crumbled like dirt in ones mouth...she should have got the wine too!

I used to go to this place back in High School!  My parents' house is right down the street, so we'd walk up here and hang out all the time.

As I recall, (as far as my memory exists) they had frappuchinos before Starbucks even existed out here, and I still think theirs are better.  I still go crazy for the chocolate banana cappuccino drink they have, though I can't recall what they call it.

I remember there always being a very cool and relaxed attitude here, comfy couches, helpful staff, and a tempting array of delectables to dip into your warm or blended iced beverage.

    Great place, tons of memories.

A good cup of coffee is a product of quality beans, careful culturing, knowledgeable roasting, and impeccable brewing. And in this, the coffee is a pleasure in itself. But to some, the love of coffee has less to do with the quality of the brew, but more to do with the moment of drinking it. And in this light, a great cup of coffee is not just a drink, but also a medium to an experience.

And despite how it looks, Java Joe's offers a great experience--one of the best I've ever had at any coffee shop. I'm so grateful not only because there's this wonderful independent coffee house in Yorba Linda (other two caffeine options being Coffee Bean and It's a Grind), but because I've finally found a place that I absolutely adore to take friends or go by myself to kill time whenever I'm visiting my parents.

    ***
The thing is, Java Joe's looks nothing like the romanticized cafs of my fantasies. It is in a strip mall. It has an ugly bright red neon light outside. Its windows don't let in much light. There's nothing too interesting or quaint in the store to explore. In fact, it kind of looks like the student lounge at any college with its dirty, but super comfortable sofas, random tables and chairs, refrigerators stocked with sodas and juices, and a piles of magazines (mostly of the Peoples, US weekly kind).

But Java Joe's more than makes up for any of that. The coffee is really good and varied. I believe they have two different brews available during the day (one flavored--usually vanilla--and one unflavored)and rotate from their pretty impressive collection for a small caf (Coffees are about $2, and caf au laits are about $2.5). Their espresso drinks (about $3.5) are well made. The foaming isn't impeccable, but they're better than most. They also have really delicious smoothies too. I've also had one of their butter cookies and it was amazingly delicious--so soft and so divine that they just melt in your mouth! They also serve wine during the evenings.

But more than the drinks or the food, it's the experience. It's a quiet local hang out during the day, and they have great performances during most nights. The performers are local musicians, and despite no cover, they're actually really fun to listen to. The sound system is a little harsh with too much bleeding (and thus shouting amongst customers to be heard), but other than that, it's just perfect. It's great to see such an unpretentious crowd (mostly in their 40s and 50s) enjoy themselves.

I love this place. I can't think of a better way to spend an evening in Yorba Linda.

Stopped by this evening to finally try this place. I have been driving by it for years, and thanks to the ROTD earlier this week, I finally decided to go.

Very cute place. There aren't many unique coffee shops in this area, it's all commercialized Starbucks and Peets and Coffee Bean. They had plenty of comfy looking seating and tables.

They had a good selection of pastries, and they offer sandwiches. They also serve wine!

I was in a hurry and didn't have time to sit down and really check the place out, but I did order a medium Peanut Butter Frappe to go. OMG so good. It was sugar overload though, and now I have a bit of a headache, probably cause I haven't eaten and I just consumed 1000 grams of sugar.

Next time I am in the area I will definitely come here instead of the Starbucks up the street.

My dad goes here everyday (sometimes multiple times a day) and my mom goes at night for music and wine.
so I feel like I owe Joe this one...

Everytime I go the people are nice and the drinks (and food) are good.  And, they are very dog friendly.. they have a waterbowl outside for dogs and you can get free dog biscuits inside.

Plus at night, I think it is the only place in Yorba Linda that has live music (and they serve wine/drinks).

Some things you should know before reading this review:

    1.  I'm not nearly as cute as the other people that have reviewed this place (if those are their actual photos).  I try.  Really, I do, but sometimes you just have to roll with the hand you're dealt, ya dig?

    2. I'm not nearly as Asian as the other people that have reviewed this place.  Once again, I try.  I have Pho for lunch once per week.  I'm also offended by the "peeing in the coke" joke, or at least feel guilty when I laugh at it.

    3. I'm not a coffee drinker.  In fact, I hate coffee.  I can't comment on the coffee at this place.

What I can tell you is this:

This place is awesome on a Friday night.  They have great music.  They have great pastries, cookies, brownies, etc.  They also have great wine at a reasonable price.  Most importantly, though, they have a BUNCH of big, fat, comfy couches where you can mellow out and listen to the great music they regularly have here.

I was there recently with my entire family (wife, kids, the whole nine), but would have been equally comfortable there with a first date, third date, buddy, whatever.  It's a very varied crowd, and it's a very friendly crowd.  Even the band was friendly, opening up the stage for people to come sing songs with them.

The people that work there are extremely cordial, helpful and prompt (not to mention HOT - even the chubby guy with the long hair has a certain je ne sais quoi).  Honestly, as a troll-like dude living in the OC, it's almost off-putting to have such nice looking women being so friendly.  Yah, I know they work there - but in the OC, even people working the counter at coffee shops generally have this ridiculous arrogance about them.  Not here.

It's like everyone here is here to hang out and chill and be cool, and that's why I will go back and back and back.

Tired of the trendy Starbucks and Coffee Bean that have horribly tasting coffee and other way too sweet speciality drinks? Want a place that you can actually lounge without feeling uptight and paranoid that the staff is looking at you when you're not looking at them? Java Joe's is by far the best local coffee house you'll find in Yorba Linda or Anaheim Hills.

Great place to lounge with lots of couches and a patio outside. Definitely not a coffee house you go study at even though they do have wireless. Not that it's loud, which it isn't but the vibe is way too relaxing for uptight studying. You can literally spend the whole night just talking, doing nothing, or playing cards. Order up a drink and maybe you'll be lucky enough to catch the local kids playing cover songs on the mini stage. Hey, they might even write a song about you on the spot. It's awesome.

Edit (11/2007): Now they are serving Diedricks coffee which I always loved, but could rarely find. Also they revamped this place and it's all spiffy and modern looking. They changed everything from the counter to the tables, but it's still the same vibe and the same menu. They even serve wine when they have spiffy performances catering to the older crowds.

I do like Yorba Linda, but there is something very cookie-cutter about the whole place. So, where is someone going to go when meeting friends in that neck of the woods. Thankfully someone suggested Java Joes.
Its a lot bigger than a traditional coffee house, or at least the ones I am used to. Nice decor. I came around Christmas time so they were getting ready, with lights all over the place and the cutest Christmas  cookies I have ever seen-seriously. I would have taken a bunch home but they were a bit pricey for me- over $5 each. Now I am not saying that is the price for all the cookies or even all their Christmas cookies but the ones I wanted were of course, the Gucci of the lot.
Great ambiance and great coffee. I treated myself to a canolli and I was sad. I had never met a canolli I didn't like till I met that one. It  was pretty bad, sad to say. I didn't even finish.
However, I would come back. Just because a place that has coffee, wine and an independent spirit deserves some recognition for standing out. They also have live music, which I would love to come back and hear!

Really bad Mochas.  Java Joe's has pretty good ambiance and friendly service, however, they don't have a clue how to make a latte.  I had a mocha latte and it came out like flat chocolate milk.  I would expect any real coffee shop to have barista who know the basics of how to steam milk.  I may sound a little critical, but for those that like Mocha or cafe lattes, you know what I mean.

I didn't try their food, but it looked pretty tasty.  To summarize, possibly try them for a bite to eat, but look elsewhere for a real coffee shop.

I went to Java Joe's to get some studying done...my roommate said they have really good iced tea, with free refills so I decided to give it a try. I must have picked the wrong day to go in there because they had a large party of like 40 women and young pre-teen girls in there having some sort of a luncheon. It was so loud I could barely study, or get one thought out of my head and into my laptop. I just thought it was really strange for a coffee shop to have a large LOUD party in there....especially when people are trying to read/study/work etc.

I think what made it an even worse experience was I ordered an iced tea  they told me that they don't take debit cards if it's under a certain amount of money. I ended up having to go to the liquor store to get cash out of the atm and paid a $2 service charge. So when I get back my now $2.50 cup of iced tea just cost me $4.50 and I left within 10 minutes because of the noise so I didn't even get a refill.

Just an overall bad experience, and I'm sure it's not like this on most days. I might give it a second chance...I would just be prepared if you're coming here to get work done or study, to just be aware this might happen...and bring cash with you if you're just getting a drink.

I've been Java Joe-ing since my first driving days when I would get lost on my way home and somehow kept stumbling upon this gem. Orange County has very few coffee shops (besides Starbucks/Coffee Bean) - thank God for Java Joe's.

It's the one social but non-intrusive place in OC, the coffee is good, they don't blast their air conditioner, the sofas are comfortable. They have live music once in a while and it's always been a real treat to watch.

The one little thing that bothers me is that they usually have the TV on and it can be a little hard to read.

I really enjoyed my time at this place.  Live music was decent, bottle of red wine, and cheese/cracker platter.  The staff was very friendly and helped us chose a good wine.  Nothing really spectacular in the wine selection but good they had good enough wine to relax and not break your wallet. I wouldn't go as far as calling it a wine bar and I didn't have the coffee so I can't really tell you what to expect for that.  But if your looking for a place to hang out and relax on a friday night with some friends this will do the trick!

Upon first entering, I was treated to a sight of a single worker trying to take care of (what I imagine were) customer's drinks and food items. The counter space behind the register/espresso bar was very cluttered with desserts and exposed food, and not in an organized/appealing way. From the looks of it, this lone employee was trying to do everything within the store by themselves.

I have no complaints about the services given to me by this overworked worker. She greeted me as soon as she had a free moment and said she would be with me as soon as she could. After placing my order and not knowing how long my drink would take, I sat in one of the very comfy-looking couches over in the corner with the rest of my group. To my surprise, my drink was actually brought to me by the barista. Upon leaving the shop later, the barista bid me farewell. Service was a-ok.

Upon seeing the paper cups the drink was served in, I let out a small sigh of disappointment. I was hoping for a ceramic mug of some kind, but I supposed I shouldn't be too disappointed since paper cups are the norm for most coffee houses.

Further disappointment showed itself when I took my first sip of my latte. Temperature-wise, the milk was steamed beyond what it should have been, resulting in a scalded taste. The foam of the milk was bubbly and not very well done. The actual coffee taste was relatively nonexistent; I imagine the ratio of espresso-to-milk was not where it should have been. It tasted very watered-down. Another person in my party had a mocha with a similar taste, leading me to believe that this is actually their recipe and method of preparing their drinks.

Generally, I evaluate coffee houses based on...well, their coffee drinks (which would give this shop a one or two star rating). However, the atmosphere here was nothing short of amazing. The furnishings looked very nice and vintage-y, perfect for a coffee house. They displayed some art on the walls that added to the overall decor (I wasn't able to ask if it was local art or something they bought themselves; either way, it looked good). The couches were very comfy, too (something I highly value in a shop).

Overall, a nice little hole-in-the-wall, but could use some improvement on their espresso drinks.

The best thing about this place was the blues band playing the night that we went. The coffee was NOT delicious - in fact, it tasted like it was burned. I had the pink champagne cake and it was just okay. We sat on some comfy couches,  but the table in front of us was dirty. I think that a staff person only came by us once and that was after we had already gone up to the counter to place an order. I would go back for the music, but not for anything else.

I've been going to Java Joe's for a few months now and I always enjoy it. I'm not a coffee afficionado, but I know what I like. Their iced coffee (with or without flavoring) is always wonderful to drink. The atmosphere is easy and comfortable. People smile at you. You can strike up conversation with someone or just stay in your own little world. A pair of headphones is sometimes necessary as there can be times during the afternoon in which there are more patrons and it can become a little loud. It isn't pretentious, some of the baristas are better at serving than others, and the person who I assume is the owner lady seems like a character. Free WiFi with no limits, plenty of outlets, food and wine (I've never tried either), and a cool bathroom. Nice place!

Update: Recently tried the food. The sandwiches are amazing and filling. But still a tad too pricey for me. Their bathroom is also wonderful. (Weird to talk about, I know). It smells lovely and isn't gross at all.

I would love to like this coffehouse.  Nice atmoshere, comfortable chairs, but after many trys , it is still horrible food, coffee and desserts.  Wine is ok.  The coffee is powdery, the smoothies are thin and tasteless and the lunch is just plain gross.  On a recent visit they were out of everything except the basic ingredients.  When ordering just a basic sandwich it was inedible as thin mayo literally dripped from bread, salad had the plastic taste.  On top of all that the service was borderline rude.  I wanted to shake the girl and ask do you know how many people would be thrilled to have this job.  Don't waste a penny of your money here.
