Me and a group of friends study here often, can't complain, the inside's cool, and the staff is very friendly.
Drinks are good, and I'm not much of a fan of bubble tea to begin with, haha.
Biggest plus is that it's within walking distance from my house.
Sidenote, there's usually a lot of smooth jazz playing over the speakers, so if that bothers you, stay away.
Super cute, delicious boba tea, and they serve noodles too. Score!
I really really love this place. The decor is pretty nice and cozy, with a number of different platforms for different areas. I really like studying here, and it's open till midnight!! Oh, and free WiFi! That's a college kids' dream, right!?
People always come in with their friends to hang out, play music, study, etc. And their drinks and snacks are pretty good too! You know the fancy designs they make with the milk/cream on top of coffee? Yeah, they do it here. I've gotten hearts, spiderwebs, leaves, you know it. It's always a nice surprise on top of my white chocolate mocha...not to mention it tastes significantly better than at Starbucks!
If you're into Asian-style shaved ice with condensed milk or other snacks like shrimp chips, etc. they have them. They're nice study snacks, to say the least.
My only problem is that it's so far from me! If you rely on public transportation, it's going to be tough to get here. I think you have to get off the Brown Line at Kimball and then take the bus, which still drops you off a few blocks away. If it wasn't for that, I would be coming here all the time! Nonetheless, it still gets 5 stars from me! :)
Their punch cards no longer work for coffee drinks; you can only get punches for bubble teas and smoothies. Boo to that. And I do find their lack of something to put in my foodhole quite annoying. Usually I am coming from work and unlike the little kiddies swarming the place, I do not have dinner at home waiting for me.
That being said I still do enjoy it. I just want something 'more' so I can enjoy it a bit better.

After the mega corp coffee came to town and closed down the cafe down the block, I had to hunt down… Read more »
Ok in a pinch, but I got to tell you: Say what you want about Starbucks, they offer a quality drink, quick, and they offer atmposphere (if even a bit predictable and cookie-cutter).
Java N Mug, on my first visit, gave me a good drink - but it came iced, not hot. But I love a good Americano hot or iced, so I took it.
I was the only one in the store on a Saturday afternoon for the entire hour I sipped my joe. Maybe because the Americano cost $3.81?? Could it be that the cost is keeping people away? Moments later on my bike ride home past the Starbucks on Foster (just blocks away) it was swarming with locals. Hmmmm....
Java and Mug is a cafe that I don't think will disappoint anyone. The drinks are very good offering many different kinds like the usual coffee, lattes, etc., but they also have specialty coffee drinks both hot and cold as well as smoothies and teas.
What makes this place special is that it is small and cozy with a great staff. The decor is cute and partly cheesy, but it sets the mood for going there. I love going there with my gf and playing boggle and drinking a bullfrog (mint coffee drink). The desserts there are good as well. I like how they won't kick people out and are very friendly. It is a great place to spend time if in the neighborhood.
I tried hot milk tea with boba and it was GOOD!!
best taro bubble tea in the city hands down! nice and soft and chewy tapioca. i take it back about anywhere else! plus the girl working behind the counter is friendly. i also love the decor! i'm about to go back there now and let you know what it's like for a place to study.
The Caramel Macchiatto is awesome. Not too sweet, not too bitter. WiFi available for paying customers. Not bad place overall.
I've always managed to show up there late, the earliest I've been there is an hour before closing time. The staff was never disgruntled or discourteous though and it seems like as long as your in the door before closing time you can hang out for as long as you want. I the menu is very friendly for non-Korean speakers and is a good place to hang out. The drinks are good-I'm not a big coffee drinker but the non-coffee drinks I've had are good and the Hawaiian ice is all right as well.
This place is really cute! Lots of comfy seating arranged in several different conversation areas. There are always lots of school aged kids hanging out using computers, playing the board games or playing musical instruments. Love the bubble teas and the staff is great! The hours are a little funky - open later in the afternoons but not the the mornings for coffee??? They give student discounts and stamp cards for frequent purchasers.
korean coffeehouse with really good drinks and a small selection of snacks. i had the spicy ramyun with egg and a honey ginger tea, superb. i saw a couple come in and order the hawaiian ice, it comes in a huge bowl with fruit and ice cream and looked amazing. decor is kind of bad, but there is korean pop music playing (a plus in my book) and comfortable couches.
The atmosphere is really comforting and warm ! But the prices are kinda ridiculous ... considering they keep adding up every time I go there ! For example, a bowl of instant** noodles, is like $5 when you can make them yourself for free (and they cost less too). But the food is undeniably fantastic ! And the way they prepare it is very clean and nice.
love this place. most of the drinks are dairy free so its great for lactose kids. i love the funky old chairs and soft couches oooh :) and i like the fact that the people bring the drinks over to you and the free wifi. i work at sbux down the street, and though i like working there, i dont really consider it a cafe. i was really sad when open hearth closed down because of us, but definitely java and mug is the place to be, especially during finals open till 12 baby! the staff were great and really laid back, the place was so quaint and it felt like home. its this kind of element that places like starbucks fail to offer.
