Jasper's is a class act. Truly fine dining in that care and attention are in the details.

Go for dinner and ask for a seat on the patio no matter what time of year.  Sparkly lights hang year round in the fully enclosed all seasons patio.

This is a cozy, romantic, neighborhood feel genuine Italian restaurant.  Most of the waiters are absolute PROS and have been here for years.  We always recognize the faces at the hostess stand, too.

Jasper, Jr. the head chef loves to walk the floor and personally greet his guests with a smile.  Everything we've ordered has been wonderful and the seasonal 'celebrations' menus are always a treat.  I especially enjoy the variety of cellos they infuse...you've probably had limoncello before...but, what about 'applecello' made with local Louisburg Apple Cider?  Or the lovely gingerbread cello in some proseco after a holiday meal in December? YUM.

This is one of favorite restaurants to get away for a date night out away from the kids.  Lovely, romantic, tasty.  My husband's favorite - Osso Bucco.  My current favorite - Veal Piccata.  We both always start with a classic Ceasar salad.  We savor every course.  Don't miss the dessert tray...you must share something!  Literally, this and Andre's are the only restaurants in KC that I order dessert at (and run more miles for the next day!)  I usually end up convincing my husband (who is ready to pop) to share "Death by Chocolate" with me.  We linger and enjoy cappuccino.

A quick tip - they take reservations on their website now!  I think it's new and not highly used yet as I got a response about 24 hours after I made the reservation and it appeared as though it was not automated but a confirmation by email directly from Jasper, Jr.'s iPhone.  Hope they keep electronic ressie's going!

    GO THERE...MANGIA! ;-)

This was our second trip to Jasper's and it did not disappoint.  I had the strawberry cake for dessert and it was incredible.  I would highly recommend it.  For dinner, I had pasta stuffed with osso bucco.  This was off the seasonal menu.  Incredible and savory dish.

The service was phenomenal and our waiter was probably the greatest server I've ever had at any restaurant.  No joke.

I can't wait to go back.

OK, I was a long-time KC resident and I've been to this place a few times.  I know people really seem to like Jaspers, but I'm kind of "eh"...  Definitely pricey, and the cost:value is way off-kilter in my opinion.  I had some kind of chicken lemon dish which was so-so.  Jasper (presumably the owner, and he's looking pretty damned good for his age if so) made the mozzarella at our table, which was kind of interesting from a chemistry perspective and pretty tasty.

I'd come back if somebody else was paying, but I'm not so much into flash without substance.  Great service, but Jasper's isn't even all that flashy.  For all their 5-star prices you'd think they might move out of that 3-star strip mall.  The waiter was pretty nice though :)

I was excited to try this place out. It was later in the evening when we went in wanting to get drinks and dessert and the water was completely confused by the entire situation. Almost sort of rude. I am not sure if there was a miscommunication between him and the front, but he kept making comments about how he was completely thrown off by the drinks and dessert, and didn't move past it the entire night. I am curious to go in and have dinner sometimes but I am slightly apprehensive if that is the type of service I will receive.

First review after many experiences here, and not one midocre meal. They were all very good with service to compliment the food. On two occassions the owner the owner himself stopped to chat, check on the meal and service. Not your normal....manager visit to the table, but a real conversation. On one occassion he discovered a connection with one of our guests and he spend at least 15 minutes conversing and then went an extra mile with dessert and another wine recommendation. What a friendly guy. Although, somehow I think that if one of his staff screwed up that he prorbably has a "Frank Martin" glare to correct the sitaution without speaking a word. I recommend this place to anyone visiting town and locals who ask about the better italian restaurants in town. Don't pass this one up.

I came here for dinner last night and saw a display of the world's most expensive canolli.  It was quite impressive, but I'm not sure if it was edible.  The restaurant is quite nice inside even though it didn't quite look like it would from the outside.

The best part about dinner was when we had fresh mozzarella made right at our table.  I believe this was the pomodori alla caprese classici salad and it was so good and plentiful.  I got the pesce san pietro and it was fish breaded with a lemony caper sauce.  I thought it was ok.  I will definitely come back for the the fresh mozarella!

My aunt, a 65-year Kansas City resident, and I came here for dinner when I was recently passing through and visiting her. It is conveniently located near her home in the southern metro area, and when I found it on my "Around Me" app and asked her about it, she said she had forgotten it was so nearby, but that it would be absolutely delicious, and she was right!

We had a reservation, and when we arrived the large restaurant, with many rooms was not full, but it was by the time we left on that Friday evening. We had a very friendly waiter, Tom, who talked to me about our common interest, bicycling (he gave me some path and route tips), and we enjoyed every aspect of our meal. The host and the chef also came to check on our meal, and we felt very attended to in every way.

I had a lovely glass of red wine, and my aunt joined me. I split my starter with my aunt, salmon carpaccio, which was very flavorful and fresh. We then both had lovely, fresh, green salads. I ordered a linguini pasta with pesto, that was so tasty with basil and oil. My aunt ordered pasta her way, with meatballs and red sauce, and we were both delighted.

We didn't plan to have dessert, being so full from our previous courses, but when our waiter heard I was leaving to ride on a six-day, 400-plus mile bicycle tour, he promptly brought over the dessert cart and said that I had better load up! We laughed and listened attentively to his dessert descriptions, finally settling on the cannoli with a side of cannoli ice cream. DELICIOUS! I also ordered espresso the way I like it -- with cream -- which is gauche, but Tom was very gracious!

It was a special event for my aunt and me to be together, and we could not have chosen a better place to celebrate our time together! This gracious, delicious, friendly restaurant should not be missed! I intend to return every time I'm in Kansas City.

I've been going to Jasper's for nearly 20 years, yes, that does date me a little.  What to say about this place?  It's owned by Jasper and Leonard Mirable, who are two of the more personable owners in the city.  The service here is usually outstanding, but it probably helps to be a regular.

My typical dinner at Jasper's is to get there a little early and have a drink at the bar.  My favorite tables are the booths right by the host stand.  What's nice is that one booth is always kept open for regulars and we nearly always get that booth, such a nice perk.

Leonard will come out and give you tips on the wine list, which is outstanding.  Jasper usually comes out and offers to make something off the menu.   One evening he even did our entire meal off the menu, he just asked what we were in the mood for and he prepared a five course meal.  It was awesome.

If you aren't in the mood for traditional Italian dishes, they have a great peppercorn encrusted KC Strip that is drizzled in a brandy sauce that I order often.

Bottom line, Jasper's offers tradition, a great atmosphere, great service and outstanding food and wine.  I'd recommend it to anybody.

Jasper's, like Bella Napoli in Brookside, has a "fast/casual" take-away counter in the front.  So, if you need something delicious and fast, you can get it.

However, if you want the white tablecloth, late afternoon lunch where you can confidentially discuss a business deal or some personal matters, this place is perfect.  The food and service is impeccable, and the staff courteous and discreet.

    Best cannoli in Johnson County.

One of the top three Italian places south of the River.  (I always have to put that disclaimer in, because I gotta look out for myself, you know?  Fuggetaboutit!)

This was an amazing place. It is really a surprising place after walking in. The bar and waiting area is small. The dining areas are great. Especially in the back room there is a flowing creek and romantic view. They actually let us sit in one of the picturesc tables along the window.  What really makes a difference is Jasper. He is the head chef. He meets everyone and makes you feel like family. I am was so impressed with his personality and how he treated my family.
Of course the food was spectacular. They made a very nice dish for my wife who is vegetarian. I choice this prefix meal which was only $25 for appetizer, entry and desert. Cant beat that.

I have to say it was a pleasant surprise was the food atmosphere and the people. Try to bring a large group so you can get this home mozarella dish that is made at the table.

I'm still keeping my standing at 4 stars, although I wish I could bump it up to 4 1/2. Really, the thing that keeps me from a full 5-star rating is that the main dishes I've had there aren't all that great. By no means are they bad. They're quite good, but that's all I can say. I can't say they're excellent, that I dream of them often and wake up in a puddle of drool. And if the rest of my Jasper's experience was at the same level as the main dishes I've had, this would probably be more like a 3-star review.

But the rest of my previous review stands, especially after another successful experience here. Our server was one of the friendliest and most attentive I've had in recent memory, offering suggestions on the food and wine selections. When he wasn't serving any tables, he stood close (not close enough to be intrusive) by to make sure his tables always had what they needed. And it worked -- our iced tea glasses never went below half full, and there was always plenty of bread in our basket.

I went for the prix fixe menu again, because I couldn't pass up the lobster bisque and tartufo again for the affordable price of $26 (also including a main dish and salad). Again, the main dish -- chicken and fettuccine in a tomato vodka cream sauce -- was pretty tasty but not all that impressive, but perhaps it's my fault for getting the prix fixe selection. I wasn't unhappy, though. The lobster bisque has a delicious whipped cream topping on it, and is chock full of meaty lobster chunks, making it richer than Oprah and the best I've ever had (again, my fiance who hates seafood was in love with this). The tartufo again did not fail to impress, despite my general indifference to ice cream and chocolatey things. Full and happy.

Went to Jasper's for the first time last night, and it was an overall wonderful experience. The owner greeted us himself at the host stand, which was a nice personal touch that you don't see very often these days. I had the pumpkin ravioli which is part of their Fall menu, and it was unbelievably delicious. I would go again today just to eat it again! The waiter was very helpful when selecting a bottle of wine, as well. The "death by chocolate" dessert was amazing. Overall, I recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone.

Wonderful Italian food and amazing service.  Didn't know the place was so dressy.  I came in looking like a scrub and still received great service.  Gargonzolla cheese on the salad was worth the extra $1.95.  Excellent salad dressing.  Will definitely return next time I'm in KC MO.

Went there last night, it was a very long (2 hours), but wonderfully enjoyable, dinner.

My friends and I started with the cheese board appetizer, this was a good thing to share. There was more than enough for 3 people.

The salad served with the meal was fine, nothing special.

My entree was the pollo alla saltimbocca, it was fabulous!  mmmm, buttery and good. I could have done without the fried potato things served with it, but that is just an afterthought.

My friends and I also shared the oreo ball dessert. Holy crap.

I will definitely be returning to Jaspers!

P.S. the chef came out an spoke with us after our meal, a very nice touch!

    "Check please! "

"But sir, you have finished your meal. Was something wrong?"

"No, no, everything is fantastic, but it is so good I need to go slap my momma for not making Italian like this."

Specifically, I'm talking about the Petti Di Pollo Alla Piemontese, otherwise known as the greatest dish ever made. I love it that much I only order this one dish despite all the other delicious entrees on the menu. Their strip steak comes in a close second. Yeah, I know there are better steak places, but none that have the Italian flair.

Also, Jasper's has without a doubt some of the best trained, most attentive and knowledgeable wait staff in Kansas City.

I always feel like I should be more dressed up when I go here. Even though I'm not wearing jeans or a t-shirt, when I see others that do, I feel cheated. This place (while in a strip mall) has class and deserves the same.

Great place, great food, great service.

YUM YUM YUM!  You must go to Jasper's!  Our service was fantastic along with the great atmosphere.

We had the jumbo shrimp appetizer with the famous white sauce.  Unbelievable.  Once you finish the giant, FRESH shrimp, dip your bread in the remaining sauce.  You will die of happiness.

For dinner I ordered one of the daily specials since asparagus was the fresh veggie.  Chicken cutlets, tomato cream sauce and liguini with the fresh asparaus.  OMG.  My husband ordered the Fra Diablo with fettucine and shrimp.  OMG x 2.  The portions were large enough for us to be stuffed and bring some home.

We also ordered the chocolate crusted vanilla gelato "ball" of goodness.  I thought I would die on the spot.

So yummy!!  This is a great asset to local business and a KC stand out.

Ate here a few months back and Jasper himself came out and cooked up a special meal right beside me.  I had a salad with the blue cheese crumbles that was UNBELIEVABLY GOOD!  ALSO I'm not sure what pasta dish I had, but OF COURSE this was also amazing!

The Jasper's of my youth was located at 75th and Wornall. it was a very fancy and expensive Italian Restaurant. Today's Jasper's is in a strip mall and the magic, at least for me, is long gone. But with the disappearance of Il Trullo, my husband has to have his Italian fix at least every week and when we don't want to make the trek to Lidia's, we go to Jasper's. I always have the "Nonni" pasta and my husband almost always has spaghetti and meatballs. I know we aren't very adventurous but Jasper's doesn't lend itself to experimentation. My husband is editorializing and telling me that J's has "good, tasty food". He's right but three things have to be noted:
    1. Why must they give you an ice cold fork to eat your lettuce with?? It hurts my teeth.
    2. Why do the loudest people in KC always sit behind us? Is that fair?
    3. Positive: Grandma Brancato's Mayonnaise Chocolate Cake is pretty darn good. You have to order it by name because it isn't on the dessert cart.
    Buona Sera and Buono Appetito!!

Take it form a girl who worked at Jasper's for 2 1/2 years, this fine Italian restaurant is all its cracked up to be. The restaurant used to be located at 75th and Wornall and was opened by the late Jasper senior about 53 years ago. These days, the place is run by Jasper Jr, his brother Leonard, and Leonard's son, Jasper III. The location at 103rd and State Line boasts much of the carpet from the original restaurant, beautiful Italian glass light fixtures and a large, custom-painted mural to welcome you into a dining experience.

The menu is extensive with classic Italian dishes as well as interesting Mirabile family recipes. The osso bucco is to die for and the chicken saltimbocca is the most overlooked item on the menu, it is fabulous. Capella d'Angelo alla Nanni is an old family recipe and definitely the most popular pasta dish on the menu. You never can go wrong with a classic lasagna or homemade marinara sauce. Don't miss the scampi alla livornese appetizer, a rich, garlicky sherry wine-laced cream sauce over shrimp...also served over rice as an entree. The dessert cart does not disappoint and is hard to resist, the chocolate tartuffi of white chocolate gelato rolled in cookie crumbs is amazing and during the summer, they serve a peach napoleon with fresh peaches, a flaky pastry and creamy chantilly custard.

Jasper's houses one of the city's best wine cellars with nearly 300 wines on the menu kept at a cool 63 degrees. The prices range from $26 to hundreds of dollars a bottle. Each month offers featured wines as well.

One of the best things about Jasper's though, is the tradition. For the past 25 years, diners have been greeted by the same gruff voice of Sam at the door. He remembers every regular and where they like to sit. Jasper's has long been known for exceptional service. You are offered a cocktail the moment you sit down, they put your napkin on your lap, and keep your wine glass full. The waiter know the menu well and can give great recommendations. Many of them have worked at the restaurant for years.

The prices aren't cheap, but reasonable. Go for a nice evening out and expect to spend some money, but everyone needs a splurge from time to time. Request a table by the fireplace for romance or on the patio for great ambiance - That used to be my section, so its possible the service isn't quite as good since I left :-)

The restaurant definitely has the authentic Italian feeling and delivers when it comes to food. Chef Jasper Mirabile is a staple on the KC culinary scene, offering regular cooking classes through various sources and hosting a weekly radio show on 710 AM. He is active in SloFood and advocates using food from local growers. He has recieved many local, national and international honors and you will see why when you dine at Jasper's.

I know I'm going to get TRUE Italian food when I have to walk through their deli/market first. To see all the desserts and anti-pastas in the cold case makes me feel like I'm in a delicatessen in New York, or just an old world family restaurant.

I ordered Jasper's summer pasta dish: the cantaloupe and prosciutto rigatoni tossed in a light Romano cream sauce. Because the melon is slightly sweet, but not overdone, and it really counters the saltiness of the prosciutto and cream. Yum! My only beef is I have a hard time shelling out $18 dollars for a pasta dish, where you know it cost $6 to make. But you're paying for excellent service and just a great experience!

    I would definitely return!

Jasper's is kind of one of those places you have to visit just because it is so far from the stereotypical Italian digs. Plus, behind the restaurant is a gorgeous view of a stream and a small lookout point. (If you are fortunate enough to be at Jasper's on a day when the weather is conducive to dining al fresco, please ask them to sit in the back! )

Located in what looks like a gunky old strip mall, the building appears a little run down and much smaller than it is. Likewise, if you enter through Marco Polo's, you will probably receive the wrong impression. Never fear though!  Jasper's is NOT gunky or old looking inside. You don't get that "ooh I wonder when the last time this kitchen was inspected" vibe from the place. Once you walk inside, all fears of the inspector being bribed by the KC mafia to keep his yap shut are assuaged simply by seeing Jasper himself take such a prideful role in his restaurant. He is often out greeting his customers or making fresh mozzarella at a table. An owner and chef who is that visible is doing it because he loves it, not because he has to prove something.

The food is great. I wouldn't call it the best italian food I've ever eaten but it is very tasty. It isn't over seasoned and it certainly tastes fresh which are both huge bonuses to my palate. The menu isn't gytanic but to me that is a bonus rather than a negative since they can make 20 things probably much better than they could 200. The desert cart is great! I have a massive sweet tooth that can take on just about anything from ice cream to creme brulee, and they've got it! I just wish they had even more to choose from in this area!

The service I've experienced at Jasper's has been top notch, with one exception. The waiter I had at one meal was truly terrible. He forgot my water, then after telling him what I wanted for the main course, I could tell that he had clearly not understood what I'd asked for, so I requested that he repeat it back to me. He did. He was wrong. I corrected him, pointed to it on the menu and then explained to him what it looked like. He brought me the wrong food anyway. He also failed to refill my drink three times. He would remember to help my husband but forget me! I don't know what his deal was, but I was a little upset by him. To top it all off, we hadn't made reservations as we figured it was still early enough to miss the rush. Um, boy, were we wrong!

It was my birthday so I was rather insistent that we eat where *I* wanted to, so we sat and waited the 1 and 3/4 hours only to have the waiter be as bad as he was... ugh. In the end though, it was all fixed and I had a great meal and a great time.

    Pros:
-Not overly "Italianized" atmosphere. You aren't hit in the face with every cheap red white and green item found on earth.
-Food is very fresh, very tasty, lovingly prepared.
-Service is great, except for the crazy haired old dude who leans on your table tilting your drinks (if you have one!!!) this way and that talking about his daughter
    -Location is a hidden gem.
-Price is maybe a smidgen over what I'd place the value at, but it is still good food, good service and good atmosphere.

    Cons:
    -Crazy haired old dude waiters.
-HUGE wait times if you decide on a whim to go without reservations and show up anywhere after 430 on a weekend.

I've seen reviews and comments that refer to Jasper's as fine dining, but I wouldn't necessarily call it that.  I think the space is comfortable, the service is warm and hospitable, and the food is outstanding, which is why I give it 5 stars.  But if it were fine dining, I probably wouldn't be inclined to just pop in for dinner on a whim.  The place really is that comfortable and accessible.

It's currently heirloom tomato season, and Chef Jasper Mirabile Jr., being the slow-food advocate that he is, is taking full advantage of some of the best summer produce in the country.  Right now, Jasper's is offering a tableside Caprese presentation where Jasper himself cuts the heirloom tomatoes and actually makes fresh mozzarella right in front of your eyes with fresh cheese curds.  I've been to a lot of restaurants and seen a lot of tableside presentations, but this is fantastic!  Jasper tells you about the farm the tomatoes come from, and what actually makes a great mozzarella, using piping hot water.   It was really impressive, enjoyable, and delicious.  After that I had a great angelhair pasta with mushrooms, pancetta, local peas, and parmesan.  Out of this world.  My date had the Veal Parmigiano which was equally as good.

Jasper's really is all it's cracked up to be, and Chef Jasper is the real deal.  And all for a non-fine dining price.

    We'll definitely be back.

Fell in love with the place the first time I walked in. Great food and amazing family atmosphere. The best part is that it has a nice sit down slow side and deli for those wanting to get something quick.  Not to mention all of the events they put on. I did i forget to talk about the food. Well the food is Molto molto buono.

WOW!!! what a wonderful restaurant. We were visiting our great friends in KC and it was their daughter's 33rd b-day so we went out to celebrate.  They chose this place because they know the owner and, besides that, the food is outstanding. Our waiter, Nick, was excellent, extremely nice and attentive to all our needs. It was a party of seven adults and there was not one mistake.

Not just great Italian food- its a great dining experience.  Phenomonal cuisine with lots of options. In fact there is nothing that the Chef will not customize for you even if it is not on the menu. If you want an Italian owned and operated restaurant to eat at look no further.

Great food from the appetizer (lobster ravioli) to the house salad to the entrees (Diablo & Risotto).  I rarely give out 5 stars, but Jasper's earned it.  Definitely one of the better meals I've ever had in KC.
