Yummy food served with good cheer in pleasant surroundings -- exactly what I'm looking for in a neighborhood restaurant of any kind. My sweetie and I ordered our two "spicy" dishes prepared "medium spicy" and found them merely very tasty; next time we'll order them "spicy" and see what we get. The Mongolian Beef and the Garlic Chicken were both delicious -- I look forward to sampling more of the menu.

5 STARS - Baby!
Great food and great people that run this place...looking forward to their opening.
Jasmine Tea House will be opening after the new year 2012. I spoke with one of the owners today 12/18...He said that they'd be opening sometime after the new years. I actually stepped inside the place and spoke with Robert. Very nice and cordial owners.
The Jasmine Tea House neon sign was lit up too!
Look for them to open soon! -

-Vegetarian Review-
Not in the mood to walk down the hill in the rain I decided to order from the Jasmine Tea House. The Yelp reviews were all over the place and the negative ones seemed to focus on the meat dishes so my hunger won over and I ordered online (always a wonderful feature).
Delivery was quick (ten minutes early by the time they gave) and easy. I payed fully online so no money to exchange. The driver was professional.
I ordered several small things and some fried rice. All fairly cheap.
The food was a resounding "meh." Not the best I've had but not the worst. The fried rice does not have a lot of veggies in it (a negative since there is no protein in it). The veggy chicken was a decent texture, but neither of the dishes I got were particularly well flavored. So eating the fake chicken (which is rare) was not exciting. The tofu dishes were fairly typical. The potato curry puff was the strangest of them. The pastry part reminded me more of baklava than anything else. The potato filling was pretty small and not overly flavorful.
In the end it served its purpose of filling my lazy stomach. Nothing special. Wouldn't go consistently but wouldn't say that I'd never go back either.
Bumped up to 2 stars for good service. -
Review from ABBY A.
This is an update contrary to my other 4-star review for this place, but I do have to include one BAD experience. This is thee place to be for the BEST BEEF WONTON SOUP, I'm telling you, its delicious. I never want to go anywhere else for my beef wonton soup, and they even admit they have the best beef wonton soup. I also love their beef fried rice; nice and brown from all the soy sauce, juuuust how I like it!
A couple of weeks ago we walked in for dinner, and I walked out PISSED. There was a new waitress who was taking our order, and right in the middle of taking our order, the phone rang (which is waaay back behind the counter) and this chick...without saying a single word, walks away from me, mid-sentence, and goes to answer the phone O-o. I could not believe my eyes, she done brought the ghetto out of me. I was like, B****, DO YOU NOT SEE THAT I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF PLACING MY ORDER INSIDE THE RESTAURANT? HOW ARE YOU JUST GONNA DROP EVERYTHANG AND LEAVE TO GO ANSWER THE PHONE WITHOUT SAYING, "EXCUSE ME" OR "I'M SORRY I'LL BE RIGHT WITH YOU"? IS WHOEVER THAT IS CALLING MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE GUESTS DINING IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE? NO! WE HAVE PRIORITY STUPID B****! UGH. Let me collect myself...
On top of that, there were about 2 other waitresses near the phone which was why I was so puzzled by what this girl did. After we finished eating, I still gave her a good tip, but best believe I wrote her a little note on the other side of the receipt expressing my feelings of disappointment. My note wasn't as bad as what I wrote above, but I can assure you that she won't pull that s*** on you if you go here. So definitely try their beef wonton and fried rice:) Thank you for "listening" to me vent!Listed in: WAKE-n-BAKE

Best Chinese Food in Bernal, Bitches!
The food is fresh, clean, not salty nor oily, and tasty! They deliver and they are friendly and quick to get you the food. I've never waited more than 30 mins for delivery. There is a great selection of vegetarian dishes, too, which is a plus for the non-vicious ones of us here, who don't kill cute animals in order to feed ourselves. I love the Happy Buddha dish, and you should get it! If nothing else, it's really fun to say. -

Seriously think our kung pao chicken was more like kung pao kitty. Texture was so off it turned us off. Will say the hot & sour soup was tasty, and the onion pancake was fine, too. But the chicken turned us away for life.
And the search for cheap hunan style amazing chinese continues.... -

Veggie chicken! Good veggie chicken! However, it is easy to go a little overboard on the deep fried food (the faux chicken is breaded and fried) when ordering...balance the deep fried with a strictly veggie dish if you don't want to feel like you are trying to digest a boulder.
Personal favorites: onion pancakes, happy buddha (best balance of veggies, tofu and veggie chicken) and general tsao's veggie chicken. -

NO idea how this place has good reviews. over an hour for delivery, food was lukewarm, mushy, looked and tasted like it was sitting in a car trunk for an hour.
disgusting.
had:
hot and sour soup...not spicy, mainly full of tofu and no other veggies
vegetable potstickers- too doughy
general tsao meatless chicken- like canned dog food.
fried rice- no vegetables, mainly rice with soy sauce.
even my soda was warm.
sad, sad, sad.

Without exaggeration, the takeout from this place was one of the most tasteless Chinese meals I've ever had, anywhere in the world. That includes the terrible airport/mall fake Chinese that you promise you will never order but do reluctantly because you convince yourself nothing else is any better.
Seriously though, it is always a risk ordering westernized Chinese, but even that is usually just too sweet - not inedible. This was worse than westernized.
The entree sauces tasted like they were basically corn starch and had no flavor, not even salt. The hot and sour soup was unbalanced and tasted like vinegar.
You have to get a new chef or you'll be out of business in less than six months. -

We tried it again and you know what, everything tastes the same. It's like House of NanKing (aka House of Same Sauce) - Broccoli beef - same sauce. Mushu Chicken - same sauce. Kung Pao Chicken - same sauce + hot peppers. All tastes about the same.
Also, the meat is strangely tender... I really liked it at first, but it made me wonder what kind of meat I was eating. I just felt a bit weird about it, but give a try and see for yourself. Not bad, but seriously, it's just a bit strange..... what DO they put in their food? Just made me wonder is all.Listed in: Chinese food delivery in SF

The food here is inconsistent, but consistently below average. I work close to here, so am periodically lulled by by promises of a close takeout lunch. I've been surprised, but never pleasantly.
Today I had hot and sour soup, which (this time) was oddly not the remotest bit hot or sour. You don't want to know what the hot and sour flavors (had they been there) cover up in this soup.
I've also recently eaten the Mongoian Beef and the Kung Pao Chicken, both of which lacked any culinary luster.
You might ask "whaddaya expect for a $5 lunch?" Indeed. This is one place that puts the test to that question - and sends it shuffling home, wishing it had studied more. -

The only reason this place is getting one star, is because there isn't anything less then one star. I ordered for delivery here and this was our lovely conversation:
Me: My house is near cow palace.
Him: Oh Cow palace, we dont go there.
Me: oh really that's weird because Ive ordered from here before.
Him: NO, we dont go there, too dangerous for the driver.
WHAT THE....ive odered here before and they were perfectly fine with taking my money in exchange for mediocre Chinese food, but now you wont? its too dangerous for the driver? I'm a 100 pound asian girl and IM perfectly fine driving around here, how about grow some nuts. sorry, im just very hungry. -

Haven't always been a fan of cheap Chinese food.
In my early 20's, a bout of food poisoning caused by a bunk dose of chow mein forced me to miss a NYE rave in East Oakland. Tragic.
In my mid 20's, an unclean batch of sweet 'n sour shrimps forced me to miss a cozy evening chez the CEO of a local tech company. Tragedy of all tragedies.
Have kept an open mind re: cheap Chinese for the following reasons -
* During the course of single motherhood, there've been quite a few nights when I could scarcely muster the energy to open a box of mac 'n cheese for the kids. (K, lots of nights.)
* Secondly, my youngest adores anything Chinese. Pretty sure this has something to do with Kai Lan, adorable cartoon cousin of Dora the Explorer. On any given night, ask her what she wants for dinner, and the answer will always be "Chinese."
Jasmine Tea House is our go-to Chinese because: a) they deliver, b) they're cheap, c) plenty of vegetarian options, and d) they offer dim sum for dinner.
Have never had a bad meal from this joint, and my newly miserly ways allow me to stretch a $30 dinner for three days.
Thank you, Jasmine Tea House! -

I don't live in Twin Peaks anymore, but I still order delivery from here at least twice a month. Which isn't awesome for my girlish figure but I just don't care.
A couple weeks ago I ordered some delivery. It wasn't until they were at my door that I realized that I didn't have any cash or credits cards on me. I was at a friend's house doing laundry and totally spaced on the details. Would you believe that they still left me with my order because they said they trusted me and remembered my hungry face from months back. I jotted down my cc number and they told me to call back with the rest of the information when I returned home.
My only quarrel remains that after two years of calling in, you'd think they have some sort of system where they know all your information and all you have to do is just say what you want...Listed in: My Neighborhood

Yuck. That is pretty much all I have to say.
I am not proud of my order but even so.. ewwww.
Hong Kong Noodles: big greasy mush with too much sauce and a mix of everything. You could barely tell what was what.
Sweet & Sour Pork: All batter, not crispy AT ALL and barely any pork that was super chewy.
Walnut Shrimp: Too much sauce and all batter as well.
Dim Sum:
- steamed pork buns - SOO much bun, barely any pork and not that flavorful.
- bbq pork - pastry was dense and chewy.
- shrimp dumplings - the dumpling part was SO thick.
Hands down - the grossest place I have ordered from for chinese delivery. -

So... I've eaten at Jasmine Tea House a few times now. My Lady and I chose this place because we are pescatarians and they have a decent vegetarian and seafood selection, including the infamous meatless chicken!
The first time, we had it delivered, Portabella Mushroom with Eggplant & Tofu and Sweet and Sour Meatless Chicken, it was awesome(it also came with either fired rice or chow mein, we got the chow mein... it was really bland)!
The second time, we dined in at the restaurant and ordered the same dishes from last time... the service was mediocre and the food was sloppy, but ok.
There was a time I called to place an order for delivery and the lady who answered, put me on hold(hold being putting the phone on the counter as she yelled at people in the background) just to tell me that it was going to be an hour and 45 mins to get a delivery So that was a no go...
Now the last time, we did delivery, ordered Sour Meatless Chicken, Walnut Prawns, and got the fried rice (instead of the chow mein). We got our food. It was piping hot! BUT... They gave us real chicken!! I called them back and the guy that answered seemed like he knew he messed up... he told me they would send the correct order and that I can keep the real chicken... WHAT THE EFF AM I GOING TO DO WITH THAT WHEN I DON'T EAT CHICKEN?!?! I gave it to the homeless guy that lives in the park across the street from my apartment (I hate wasting food and the homeless dude is cool!). The Prawns tasted like batter and sauce; they were way over cooked. An hour later, the "Sweet and Sour Meatless Chicken" showed up, we weren't hungry anymore...

The key thing about Jasmine Tea House, I believe, is the fact that it is *actually* a tea house. As in, they have a decent selection of loose-leaf teas that you can order by the pot. None of that the mass-packaged blase stuff other asian resturants get by the crate at Costco. I frequently come for some "linner" (Or "Second Brunch", as I like to think of it) and order a pot of tea and some dim sum and hang out with a book for awhile.
The regular food is excellent as well, the service is fast and friendly. Every time I have been there, a man who I believe is the owner is the one who has taken my order and served me. I like seeing such hands-on commitment to an establishment. -

the lady who took our order spoke and understood English VERY WELL! from past experiences... it was ALL bad attempting to order food from people you can hardly understand! O_O
BUT ANYWAYS!
We ordered the walnut prawns, sesame chicken, and combination fried rice.. the walnut prawns were pretty darn good... sesame chicken was BOMB! but combo. fried rice was "ehhhh" /= wasn't all that... price came up to $20 somethin.. not THAT bad, i guess

Faux sweet and sour chicken!!!!!!!! Heaven!!!!!!!! So real in texture and taste that at one point, I thought they may be tricking me. So, I asked what it was made of and how it was made. Totally won me over. Best faux sweet and sour in the Bay, hands down!
GREAT service, good prices, amazing portions, DELICIOUS food...I think I'm heading over there tomorrow for dinner. :) -

They have "meatless chicken" which is amazing! Get that! Get that now! It is sooooo good. It is tofu that tastes like whatever kind if chicken dish you order. Everything else there is what you can find at any good chinese place in the City but that meatless chicken is just great. I think there was a whole month when I have it for dinner ever night, lol

This place is amazing! It's well known that Bill Clinton considers it the best Chinese restaurant in town, and so do my friends in the area and my entire household.
The meatless sesame chicken always hits the spot, as does the Happy Buddha and the veggie potstickers. My carnivore friends adore the duck, but as I'm a vegetarian I can't speak for that myself.
We often order delivery, but dining there is also an easy way to catch up with my friends in the neighborhood. They have a bottle of a superb French red wine for only $15!! Who can beat that?
The staff are all way nice to us, and even go out of their way to make us feel like special customers. I consider myself fortunate that the Jasmine Tea House is so close to me. Thanks, guys!!Listed in: My Neighborhood

This is a nice spot. Better than a lot of Chinese vegan options. Not sure why it doesn't get frequented as much by the vegan masses that I know.
The meatless chicken dishes are great. It is their own chicken analog so the originality is a plus. Flavorful and good portions. Quite a selection of dishes as well. Plus, they got some vegan dim sum.
The staff were real friendly too.

In the spirit of FB--10 random things you didn't know about my dim sum experience at Jasmine Tea House:
1) i love their colorful, neon lights that read "Jasmine"-- it makes me super excited for dim sum.
2) our waiter was extremely friendly, like genuinely friendly & patient--he gets 10 stars!
3) i brought three of my favorite ladies for lunch
4) one of whom is a vegetarian (or rather pescatarian, i guess)
5) we ordered chicken chow mein (which was outstanding) & vegetable soup
6) and every dim sum item you can imagine: shrimp dumplings, chive dumplings, BBQ pork buns, shu mai, sticky rice with meatless chicken (highly recommend this one), vegetable dumplings & buns, & the fried prawn appetizer
7) we adored the tiny tea cups
8) and the delicious jasmine tea to help digest all that not-that-heavy-but-still-kinda-heavy Chinese food
9) everything was about $11 per person (not including tip)
10) my fortune read "the current year will bring you much happiness."

OK, you have to picture Nancy Kwan wrapped in a white terry-cloth towel in her boudoir in "Flower Drum Song"...
"I'm strictly a female female
And my future I hope will be...

It goes to my head like brandy,

Jasmine Tea House just doesn't sound like it belongs in the Outer Mission among the tacquerias and pupuserias. It sounds more like a brothel in Hong Kong where long-limbed Suzie Wongs would wait three to a table for lonely American businessmen..."Hey Joe, I be good wife, I be good wife...you see, you see".
But there are no bar girls in tight silk dresses here. Just a small, tight-fitting place with passable Chinese food. The good deals, of course, are the $6.50 lunch specials where you get a heaping cup of hot and sour soup followed by whatever you order off the menu. I went for the Roast Duck (see my photo), which was somewhere between decent and chewy. The service is quick though, and they keep the place fairly spotless despite the unsavory visitors that may stop by for handouts.
FOOD - 3 stars...passable, budget-conscious Chinese in the Outer Mission
AMBIANCE - 3 stars...an old-fashioned place like where Ralphie and his family went for Christmas dinner in "A Christmas Story"
SERVICE - 4 stars...dutifully fast

Sometimes, after a trying day all you need is a crab puff, an egg roll, a pot sticker, some fried chicken wings and a good friend to remind you that life's okay and maybe, just maybe, so are you. If the crab puff-egg roll-pot sticker-fried chicken wings solution is one you want to employ order the appetizer combination (the good friend you will have to find on your own.) Unlike in other Chinese restaurants, every single item on the plate is excellent.
Keep the good vibes going with a dish of dry sauteed string beans. They're flavorful and packed full of spice and pass the leftover test with flying colors. Chow mein is just okay and the Szechwan beef ought to be avoided - it was seriously disappointing.Listed in: Chinese cuisine in the San…

The good:
Lunch specials were a great deal! Dishes are at the most $6.50 and comes with ride and hot and sour soup. The portions were also really big for a lunch special.
The bf liked his spicy eggplant.
The bad:
My garlic fish had bones in it. It wasn't a whole fish but slices of fish battered and fried and then cooked on the pan with veggies and sauce. It shouldn't have bones in it. I was super annoyed at that.
Table cloths were dirty with food stains.
Homeless man walked right into the restaurant and collected cans from the restaurant's garbage. The owner let him in and maybe he's doing a good deed, but at least meet him outside so he won't bring his stench inside.
I'll probably return to give it a second chance and to try the Happy Buddha, but for now, 2.5 stars.

Jasmine is reminiscent of the chinese food place I ordered from multiple times a week in highschool. As the only vegetarian in my texan family, I did what I could in the midst of the regular features at my house- chicken fried steak, beef stroganoff, and spaghetti with meatballs.
in other words, I would feel comfy moving to bernal heights just knowing that this delish and hearty, well priced chinese food was at my beckon call, taking me back to days past.
the veggie potstickers, are gingery and flavorful- no soggy cabbage here. and the faux sesame chicken was delectable. also, its a no frills place, I can wear my awkward outfit and no makeup and feel right at home. I love places like this. so neighborhoody and trend-free. like chicken noodle soup. mmmm.Listed in: vegan digs

Very kind staff here and one of the best combo delivery deals around. For $10 you get soup, eggroll, an entree and rice. It's called, fittingly, "I Don't Want To Cook".
There is something about the housemade fake meat here. I was briefly addicted to it. I'm not even a Veganarian, but I found myself with the oddest cravings for their meatless Kung Pao. Then one day, poof, I was immune, nothing. It got under my skin though, quite inexplicably, so I'd be remiss not to bring this up.
.
But I'm still giving this place the Trinity. Fast to your door Mission. There are far worse Chinese comestibles en El Barrio. That and Clinton ate here twice. He also ordered to go, and because he was Bill MFing Clinton Jasmine Tea House cooked him up some vittles even even though they'd closed the kitchen. So while I don't order from JTH anymore (Wild Pepper, you had me at the free Chow Mein) when I did, it made eating chinese take-out on my couch with sporks seem somehow...Clintonian. -

Totally worth the short walk from my house, but something Ca-razy happens when these folks deliver. Every aspect of the food goes down a notch or maybe even three. I seriously did not want to touch the stuff.
In any case, $15 bottles of wine, fun, make sure you order the right shit, stress free environment for vegetarians (that's one hell of a buddha's delight), dumplings (a childhood memory come true). I like their duck, except it's so fatty it often makes me sick. I guess the fact that I still eat it anyway, attests to it's deliciousness.
Most of all though, this place is cozy with wonderful service and it is highly convenient. I would go more often if I could.Listed in: My Neighborhood
