Surprised to read some of the negativity on here. Doesn't seem like you can take Kevin G's ridiculous review esp. when he's talking about smoking bowls and seeing cockroaches.
Jasmine Rice is a good local thai place. Nothing fancy but the food is pretty good esp. compared to other Thai places I've been to in the city. I've never had a problem with service hte few times I've been there. So it doesn't look fancy like some people have stated but its more of a local place and its not like every Thai place looks fancy....i've seen worse. -

I've ordered so many times here now that I have learned what is best for me to avoid & which dishes to stick with. Also, I pick up my food now, rather than getting it delivered. Nick, the owner, is very friendly & always remembers me when I call in. Never eaten in, but the restaurant is cute, cozy, & looks clean.

This place is on my way home from work...so is a convenient place to stop in for some carry out.
I'm not sure where the issues with the place being clean come from. Sure...it hasn't been redecorated in the last decade...and it's more "neighborhood place" than date night...but it's not smelly. I've never seen any little brown buddies either.
I've also never had a problem with the speed of the service. It's made to order...so no...it's not as fast as going to Panda Express...but I think my longest wait has been 15 minutes...and that was a pretty complicated order.
It only gets four stars because it's GOOD Thai food...but nothing out of the ordinary. Personally...I'm not a fan of maki rolls with my Thai food...so the fact they serve some sushi is just a testament to the fact the neighborhood doesn't have a sushi place.
Anyway...go for casual Thai when you're craving Red Curry...and you're passing by. Don't go out of your way for it...your neighborhood Thai place is probably exactly the same. -

Weird review. Weird because I haven't eaten here.
I wanted to.
I mean, i planned to when I drove over there.
jasmine rice is a little place on narraganset just south of belmont.
It was a good day that day.
the sun was out, traffic was light and as luck would have it, i found a parking space right in front of the restaurant.
I hopped out of my car, and walked in.
with a simple twist of the knob i push the door open.
suddenly and without warning im slapped across the face with the smell of old wet dirty rags.
the place smells horribly bad.
I dismiss it, and wait to be seated.
the waitress walks up and asks if im dining in.
i say yes and she points to a table and says, 'have a seat"
i pull out the rickety old seat and sit down.
i have no idea what held that chair together.
i can't help but notice that the decor is pretty lackluster and they're blasting country music. the whole time the waitress is walking around the restaurant yelling over the music keeping a conversation with someone sitting on the other side of the joint.
The stink is getting to me, but i held firm.
I figured id try the sushi.
I ask what their california roll was and she said it was avacado and cucumber. but that its cooked.
huh? i thought.
"avacado and cucumber?" i asked.
"yes" she replied.
"cooked?" i said with a bewildered tone.
"yes" she said. "all our sushi is cooked. nothing raw".
I said, "oh ok"
at that point, the smell, the yelling, the country music, and now the cooked sushi was just too much.
I politely gave back the menu and said "well, thanks anyway"
and walked out.
I've seen some good reviews for jasmine rice online and i remember eating at this place about 10 yrs ago when it was in another location.
Don't remember the food though so I can't imagine it was too great but you never know. I mean c'mon Papa johns is flourishing so someone somewhere likes it.
as for me, i'll just go somewhere else. -

I've only been here for lunch.
They have a fantastic lunch special for $6.25!!
It includes:
a cup of tasty Thai chicken-noodle soup,
a choice of an eggroll or spring-roll appetizer,
a little cucumber salad,
and your choice of about twenty entrees.
Very yummy Ginger Chicken, Garlic Chicken,
and extremely yummy Curries.
It's located in a residential strip of the street, you could miss it if you weren't looking for it.
Excellent service.
One of my favorite "work" lunch spots. -

I have eaten at this place numerous times, I love this place. The chicken panang is fucking amazing. The crab rangoon is fucking amazing. I love sitting down at this place and drinking 6 tall boys of PBR and talking to the crazy old man that says panang should be made with weed. I agree with him wholeheartedly.
But today was a different day. I was eating and I noticed a cockroach was crawling his happy ass all over the walls and what not. I was kind of high from smoking a bowl earlier but I was certainly not imagining this. This place is fucking filthy and I will never recommend it to anyone, ever. I used to bring all my friends here to show them how good the food was, what a fucking idiot I was.
I wish I could rate it zero stars but I guess everyone deserves just a little bit. Fuck 'em. Avoid this place like the plague. I will be. -

One Word to describe the food here: DISGUSTING. Everything was either deep fried to a crispy greasy mess, or undercooked to a soggy mess. Nothing tasted the way it should or had the ingredients that they described on the menu. AND, the best part is I found a hair in my food. It was a very short black hair and they actually told me it could be mine. I have long auburn hair, there is no way it was mine. Never again. I am giving one star only because I have to and because I am thrilled I didn't get food poisoning

Great Food. I have tried various Thai restaurants and by far this is the best restaurant. Price is reasonable, food quantity is just perfect. I recommend you try this restaurant.

I woke up late this fine Sunday afternoon and when my husband and our friend in the next room were deliberating over what to do I jumped at the opportunity to suggest FOOD. We typically head over to Jess Cafe when it comes to Thai food but we thought we'd do something different today.
Let me tell you, it was a waste of time.
We were very hungry and wound up waiting something like 50 minutes for our three meals to come. I'm glad we'd ordered an appetizer--the spring rolls. They were lackluster but helped us not eat the tablecloth while we waited. And waited. And waited.
I've never had more bad things to say about a restaurant. Even the water tasted funny and was disgustingly unrefreshing. While waiting we were tortured by the worst music. At first it was funny to joke that our friend was being culturally insensitive because didn't he know everyone listens to second rate boy bands in Thailand? But when the rest of the country ballads and smooth jazz managed to give us all ticks, we'd had enough.
When our food came--I had the Pad Kei Mao with vegetables, my husband had the Noodle Supreme with vegetables and our friend had the Bangkok chicken. Our friend was just glad to have some food in front of him finally, but my husband and I were equally unimpressed by our food. Too salty, not spicy, and too small of portions.
If you're in the neighborhood, head over to Jess Cafe--they have much of the same on the menu (if not more), plus way faster service, huge portions, and the service is typically fantastic. Way more Bangkok for your buck. -

I met some friends for dinner there on a Saturday & was a little worried over what to find because of the negative reviews. All I can say is Kevin G. must have been stoned out of his mind. The place was way cleaner than most of the Thai places I've been to in this city. The owners must have finally heard enough people asking for the music to be turned down, because there was some kind of Thai-pop in the background, but it wasn't at all loud.
So, what about the food? It was good. I'm not going to rave about it, but I was happy. I had the Mussaman Curry Beef, which was nicely spiced & had good quality, fresh ingredients. The spring rolls were better than average as well. The Thai Iced Coffee was ok. A little weak for my taste, but I'm a hopeless caffeine junky, so your mileage may vary. The portions were generous, but not huge. I was famished & still had a little bit left over.
So, is it worth trucking out to Belmont & Narragansett if you live in Rogers Park? Heck no! There are lots of amazing, inexpensive Thai places in town. Opart Thai & Arroy Thai in the Lincoln Square/Ravenswood neighborhood are two of my faves, but if you live on the Northwest side don't let the stoners & posters from the competition stop you from ordering from Jasmine Rice or dropping in for a good meal. -

Had I not seen Kevin G's review about cockroaches crawling around in broad daylight, I would've been a weekly regular here to this day. I did, in fact, used to eat here or get take out very frequently when it first opened. Everything I tried was pretty damn good, especially given the fact that it's a random Thai place in the middle of nowhere (as far as dining goes). I was SO thrilled to have good Thai food a few blocks away from me, it seemed like a fuckin' luxury. Great appetizers, spicy noodles, Pad Thai, curries... Just everything, seriously.
However, I do have to admit that I stopped coming here ever since I saw that review a few months ago. :( While I feel that tons of restaurants probably have some kind of covert critter/sanitation issue that patrons aren't aware of, I just can't stomach eating somewhere where this issue has surfaced. There's been times I've considered it, but just couldn't bring myself to do it. Rats, sure; cockroaches, ughhh... *suppresses shudder* So, I'm very skeptical now, and its remote location further leads me to question the freshness of the food/cleanliness of the establishment. Which is a shame, since I really did love the shit out of this place.
However, if you're more forgiving than I am, I do have to say that they have some really, really great food and I almost wish I never found out what I did, goddamn it. It's the only place you can get your Thai fix for miles around! -

I've been a few times - once I walked in to order take-out, it took them a LONG time to get my order together even though the restaurant was almost completely empty, and like the other reviewers have said, they play loud music, lots of 'boy band' type stuff. The sign advertizing they have sushi is what initially drew me in-- I tried the sushi, and yes, they don't serve raw fish, only vegetables and cooked meats. The sushi was mediocre for the price in my opinion.
The second time I ate in. The service was a little faster, and I felt my portion was large enough. Both times though the person behind the counter was yelling to the person in the kitchen sporadically throughout the meal.
When it all boils down, the place is within walking distance from my house, and the food isn't too terrible, so it has that going for it, but don't go there looking for a fabulous Thai experience. Also, it is a BYOB restaurant. -

I love this little Thai place! It's quiet so when I go for lunch with a friend we have the place to ourselves. Their lunch specials include a cup of yummy soup and two crab rangoons, for $6.25! Their food is fresh and cooked to order. I can hear them cooking it after I place my order. Try the coconut bubble tea! I don't know why there are so many negative reviews on here. I will come back here all the time and always bring a friend to try it with me!

Ordered delivery, the food arrived hot, the order was correct, and the delivery fellow was polite and had change. I ordered the Lad Nar and it was very good. I am not a huge fan of thai, so it is hard for me to judge, but I enjoyed this dish more than I have at other places. The price was right and the portion was large. The fried tofu was as good as I have had anywhere. The sticky rice in banana leaves was AWESOME. Two were more than enough for three of us. They are big and extremely satisfying (Whoa, that sounds dirty), and have a great coconutty, bananay, vanillay taste. The meal was enjoyable and me and both my dining partners enjoyed our food. Total bill was under $30 including 3 entrees, an appetizer (Which was huge) and dessert.

Very good Thai food. I love the different duck options. Shrimp rolls are great. You need to ask for the hot red chili sauce. Delivery is usually prompt.

we like this place, small - very clean and cozy, you forget you're on a busy street. food is great, love the fried rice, pad thai and assorted veggie dish. very good soups. simple, fresh, healthy food. delivery is quick, quicker than if you eat there (less the point). usually one little woman catering to all tables, and take out desk. good on an off night if you have time. BYOB.

The delivery was fast and the driver very polite, but the sauce for the Pad Se-Ewe was bitter not sweet and the chicken was very dry. One star for fast delivery and one star for the Shrimp Rolls which were tasty, but nothing special.
