4 reviews for Jardin Corona Mexican Foods
jardin corona on pond springs road is our local go-to place when we're craving mex. super friendly and accommodating staff (it's a "Norm!" kind of place), good food, tasty ritas, and most of all - decent prices. the mexican martinis rival any that I've had in town. my personal favorite is the tortilla soup - but beware when you order - a bowl is really more like a trough. if you are thinking about ordering anything else to go along with your tortilla soup (even so much as a single enchilada), go with a cup. they also know how to treat their camarones at jardin - the shrimp dishes i have had there have all been really good.
the atmosphere is extremely casual and the bar has about 4 stools - and that's it. but they will find you a table because you are always made to feel welcome at jardin.
3 stars for the food. 1 star for the service.
I had the Burrito Plate. It was good, but nothing to get excited about. The fried ice cream was yummy! My friend got the flautas and I'll be trying those if I ever go again.
The down side was they were very disorganized seating us. They told us it was a 15 minutes wait. Judging by the amount of ppl waiting I thought it would be closer to 20-30. We waited ONE AND A HALF (yes 1 1/2) hours for our table for 5 people. We finally had to go up and there and give pressure and tell them to give us a booth for four and add a chair on the end!!!
But once we were seated the food came fast enough and we were out of there in faster time than we had waited to sit.
So good!
I went to the location on Pond Springs Rd (I'm guessing they're related, not sure). The service was great and the food was stellar. I had the Spinach & Mushroom Quesadilla (simple, yes). Margarita was excellent. If you need an alternative to Maudie's, Casa G's, etc. this is a great one.
If it smells like a duck, walks like a duck, must be a duck. Duck you say? No duck here, but good old fashion Mexican food. It does not seem tex mex to me, and that's because it is not. It's more influenced by interior Mexico than the locally common Tex-Mex. Mexican food is rare in Austin, from what I've tasted, and I miss it. The rice, cheddar cheese, and beans standard goes out the window here. Seems Austinites have to have their breakfast tacos, and this place has them, but that doesn't make it Mexican. It's the rue made from a rich paste of chili power and spices that I love. The chips are thin, served warm and their salsa is great. I had two enchiladas, one chicken, one beef, guacamole and sour cream topping. Again, I love the sauce served over them, and at $5.99, a true bargain. They have full bar service but something told me to order a Corona. Note: I did not mention queso, but they have it. Ha Ha!. Oh, this place doesn't belong in Austin.
