10 reviews for Jardin Corona
A friend that lives nearby took me here last week while I was visiting. He said he goes here all the time. At 6 pm on a Friday we had to take a number and wait about 5-10 minutes for a table. We started the evening off right with a top shelf frozen margarita, on my friend's recommendation. Basically, it was a frozen margarita in a large glass with top shelf tequila and Grand Marnier. One gave me a nice buzz. We didn't have a second, because we weren't trying to get hammered. It was an excellent drink, and the best thing was, 2 of them came to only $15. Where I live (south FL), it would be about that much for 1, considering top shelf ingredients.
The food was very good, better than average. The chips and salsa were addictive. I had a combo plate with a steak soft taco, a chicken flauta, cheese enchilada, guac, rice and refried beans. Everything was great. The cheese they use is fantastic. Service was good. I won't mind returning on my next trip to the Austin-area.
One of the best mexican food places in North austin.
It's a small little hole in the wall but the food is well cooked and tasty.
Haven't been disappointed yet.
We go here almost twice/month after church. I have ordered a few items but the ones I've always liked most are the breakfast tacos and the omelets. The Mexican-style omelet is great and comes with really good homestyle potatoes. My friend always orders the Enchiladas Verdes and seems happy with those.
I never feel qualified to review Tex-Mex type food, coming from Tucson, AZ and loving Sonora style Mexican food, but this place has a good selection even for those of us who are quite picky!
We live about a mile from the Cedar Park location. I've not yet tried the others in the area (I just saw one in Liberty Hill on Sunday!), so I can only comment on the CP restaurant.
I have to say, I have had a few Mexican/Tex-Mex meals at other places (here and in California) that exceed what I typically experience at JC. However, the food is consistently good, and (with no exceptions I can recall) the wait-staff is always friendly and warm. Our family typically has a lazy Saturday morning breakfast there a couple times a month (their Supreme Breakfast Taco is a real deal!), and we enjoy the atmosphere immensely.
For the most part, we like the food here with a couple of exceptions:
1. The tortilla soup here is HORRIBLE! Don't order it!
2. (Note to the management) Consider putting your food on heated plates. If you don't just "inhale" your food when it hits the table...it gets cold FAST and is not nearly as good!
They have good chalupa's and beef enchilada's and the best Raspberry Swirl Margarita. If you get the big one, make sure you have a designated driver.
They usually have fast service and are always busy so get there early. If they are busy, expect to wait awhile for your food. However, if you get that margarita not much will bother you.
Having lived in Texas all my life, I've eaten at about a billion tex-mex restaurants. Jardin Corona brings it all together. It's the ultimate example of what the cheap local tex-mex restaurant is supposed to be. There's plenty of good tex-mex around town, but this place just has that "something extra". My wife and I have been to all 3 local Jardin restaurants countless times over the years, and have NEVER had a bad meal. Their salsa is perfect, and their chicken fajitas are the crowning achievement of fajita-making. Their combination platters are great, their chile con queso is simple but tasty, and their "top shelf" frozen margaritas are tasty as can be.
The ambiance is "hole in the wall", and the prices are cheap for the quantity and quality of food you receive. We've still go to other tex-mex restaurants now and then, but "Jardin" is our faithful favorite.
Edit: I thought of something that could make the Jardin restaurants better: fresh tortillas like Chuy's makes. But still a solid 5 stars for Jardin!
What can I say? I'm a big fan of the Jardin Corona. I've frequented both the Austin location (in Pond Springs) and this one. It's simply one of my favorite Tex-Mex locations. Its not really anything complicated - they have great salsa and some generally tasty food. I usually opt for the combos (like the Jardin Supreme) which comes with more food than one human should probably consume. I like their mole but unfortunately it is served over some pretty dry chicken so I don't think I'll continue to order it. I would also avoid their Michiladas - I've only tried it once at this place and something was off about it.
The service here is very prompt and friendly. I can only remember one time where I had bad service and the waiter was obviously new. I could even hear him being chastised by another waiter in Spanish for not bringing our food out in time. They really do care about providing you good service.
I'd also like to note that it is better for dinner than for lunch. The lunch specials are quite barren.
All in all it's a good place to get good cheap Tex-Mex for dinner.
The service is always prompt as long as you don't sit in the back room area. The food is always hot and tasty. Love the salsa and chips. I'm cursed with being allergic to bell pepper and unlike a lot of other mex restaurants around they will actually prepare food without this usual ingredient. Love the migas! Margaritas are awesome too! I've been dining here for at least 10 years.
Great Casual Mexican fare. The service is good and the food is GREAT! Their tortilla soup is HUGE so if you like it, only order that! They make great fajitas and they have a great menu. Local Mexican, can't beat it.
