Janet's is GREAT!
my "witch woman" & I like the atmosphere
I enjoy the RIBS -- the witch, she reads the menu & tries out different selections -- [ "meah, ya gotta read the whole thing??" ] ;)
LOVEem!
My "Shotgun Shela" girl is recognized and welcomed on the patio as well.
"She" uses varied chin pressure on my knee to convey her wish fer a "taste" [ got me wrapped around her pretty paws she has ;) ]
VERY happy to have found this place
the Highwayman says a big YES! to Janet's Montana Cafe
Ordered the scrambled veggie something, tasted like cardboard...literally.
The slice of melted processed cheese on top seemed to confirm this was definitely not home cooked food.
Combine the lame service from the waiter & the extremly bland food, I think two stars is more than generous.

My boyfriend's mom took me here for my birthday brunch. And I am IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE.
I will come back for sure. They have this cute little patio area with heaters, and surrounded by plants. You can also hear the trickle of a little stream. It's great!
And the food? OMG, I had the Eggs Benedict, and I'm still dreaming about it now.
Try it if you're in the Alpine area!

Passing through Alpine today, this joint was recommended to us while gassing up the sled. Wow, are we glad we just happened to stop at this exit and got the tip. I had a Denver omelet that was easily the best breakfast I've had in ages. Big, with tasty eggs and tons of fresh fixins, great hash browns, and even the wheat toast was awesome. My zombie girl also had an omelet with fresh fruit, and was served a huge portion of some of the best fresh fruit I've seen served alongside breakfast, far better than a chain joint would have served. Dined out on the patio in the brisk morning mountain air. By the time we were leaving, the morning rush was pouring in.. this place is clearly popular, and for good reason. We'll definitely be back when passing through the area. Both Brak & zombie girl rate Janet's the coveted (but seldom achieved) 5+ stars.. off the scale!
FINALLY a place to go on the way back down the moutain after an afternoon of hiking. For years we used to go to the Bread Basket which was always yummy and a treat, but the last time we went it was disgusting (changed ownership).
This place is very cute (moose-head-on-the-wall type cute), good menu, service was prompt & friendly, plenty of food, generally a good time had all around.
My special was lovely. Asparagus omlette with broccoli, cheese, tomato - very good. The veggies still had a nice crunch to them, were not frozen grossness. It also came with the obligatory potato item as well as the pancake/toast/muffin/fruit (you choose).
It has the good ol' basics: chicken fried steak, pancakes, waffles, omlettes, eggs & bacon, steak, burgers, roast chicken, pot roast, lots of pies in the pie case, etc.
Again, we can now enjoy a big fat meal after a tiring day trudging around the forest.

Janet's is great.
Here is what to expect:
1. Good service.
2. HUGE PILES OF FOOD.
3. Quick service.
4. Friendliness.
5. Thorough menu.
6. Breakfast served all day.
I had the spinach ommelette, and it was awesome. Spinach, Mushrooms, Bacon ... and it comes with choiced for sides and I got the Fruit (very fresh and yummy) and a muffin (banana nut).
The hashbrowns are really good. Made with gobs of butter apparently.
More yummy goodness.
Lots of seating, and the outside patio is really pleasant.
If you are in Alpine, give it a shot.

I had to force the Husband to go here because Denny's rules his breakfast world but he was super hungry and Janet's was closer. We had the munchkins in tow and I was a little worried when we showed up and was told there was a 20 minute wait. But lo and behold, 10 minutes later, we had a table...so far so good. We get seated and look over the menu while my 2 yo opens every jelly/jam packet she can reach. My 8 yo son then sees all the deer heads and mounted fish on the walls and that's all he can focus on the rest of meal....
Anywho, the service was fantastic and fast. The menu was great and so was my breakfast. Although, we all had standard breakfast fair, nothing fancy. My son had the french toast and said it was better than mine. He's on restriction now. I heard the omelets were really good and the bikers at the table behind us had biscuits and gravy which looked pretty darn tasty. It was hard not to stare but I didn't want to cause any trouble. I definitely want to go back to try more of the items on the menu. They had really big beautiful muffins that I want next time, when I don't have to share my breakfast with a 2 yo.

I LOVE this place! The food is ample, delicious and super hearty. The service is WONDERFUL! We had 3 different people bringing us drinks and food and we never had to wait for any of it! If you are in the Alpine neighborhood for breakfast, lunch or dinner, this place is your best bet!

On the way up to sunrise highway to check out the snow, the Mr. and I stopped to have a late breakfast. He had the heart attack platter, er, I mean the country benedict. Freshly baked buttermilk biscuits topped with sausage patties, poached eggs and slathered in country gravy. He was quite pleased, especially since the biscuits were actually house made and fluffy as they should be. I had a turkey, spinach, tomato & jack omlette, which was quite flavorful and tasty. If you want your hasbrowns crispy, you just need to ask your server. They are more than happy to oblige. The pumpkin muffin was delicious, if a tad on the sweet and rich side. The service was impeccable, very friendly and prompt.

Service is great! Food is great! Plastic chairs outside suck...
Goodbye IHOP.......hello Janet's Montana Cafe!!! I love breakfast food but it's not very often that I usually order it because something on the lunch menu seems to always catch my eye. With the weather changing in San Diego, this past weekend was a beautiful fall day and a great day to go on a drive. The crisp colder weather was long overdo. We decided just to drive on interstate 8 heading east, enjoy the scenery and stop wherever caught our eye.
We exited off of Willow Road just because, made a right and just followed the road. We saw a bunch of little shops all with a log cabin exterior. Janet's Montana Cafe was one of them. As soon as I saw the work Cafe I pulled over. I was pretty hungry by then..hehe! Outside there are antique shops and a cute little water fall next to the patio area. When we walked in we were greeted by a really nice staff. There was a little bit of a wait...about 10 minutes because we arrived during their Sunday brunch time. The decor inside was really cute. It looked like a log cabin with antlers around the light fixtures. I love old rustic places like this. Now to the food...
They had a great menu with all kinds of yummy breakfast food, sandwiches, burgers and salads. I chose to order the italian sausage omelet (italian sausage, cheese and tomatoes) which came with home fries and pancakes. I ordered the whole wheat pancakes which were really yummy...especially with a lot of maple syrup! The omelet was very good! The spices from the sausage gave it great flavor. And home fries, cooked to perfection...crisp and golden on the outside and perfect on the inside. Their portions are very generous...you will not leave there hungry.
Come hungry...leave happy! I've heard that somewhere before..haha!!

Julian was far too crowded with tourists getting into the holiday spirit, so we took our touristy inclinations back on down the mountain and up the highway to Alpine, where we stopped into Janet's Montana Cafe for a late brunch.
Janet's essentially defines the word "rustic." All woodgrain and animal heads. I always feel weird dining under the glassy gaze of a stuffed deer head--I imagine it saying things like "enjoying your strawberry waffle? I used to enjoy strawberries..." But that aside, I DID enjoy my strawberry waffle. And my boyfriend loved his giant Denver omelette & hashbrowns. The coffee was mediocre, but the service was fantastic. They serve lunch as well, and dinner Wednesday through Saturday. I recommend stopping in if you're in the neighborhood.

I love this place for breakfast. Only complaint is cellular service is spotty, but who cares? You don't want to be bothered eating some of the best food in Alpine. I tend to order the corned beef hash and eggs. Boy is it delish. Made better since the last two times I've been there was after running a 1/2 marathon in the morning. The staff is likable and friendly, and not to mention some of the waitresses are strait out good looking. The price is fair for the quality of food. The service is fast. Just remember be prepared to wait in the morning. It can be pretty crowded but it's worth it once you take your first bite.
Janet's is the best!!! Great food, great service, and great atmosphere.
This is by far one of the most delicious and best value places to eat in all of San Diego county.
For $10, you can get a breakfast with pancakes the size of your plate, chicken fried steak, eggs and fresh fruit. Best of all, each of those things are top quality.
Their muffins are gignormous and fluffy, the bacon always crispy, the eggs are always the way you want them. The only thing that could use improvement is their hashbrowns, which could afford to be a little more crunchy.
If you're still eating at Denny's for breakfast after visiting Janet's, you must have no taste buds left.

Great comfort food, excellent and friendly service, decent prices. I love their omelette's, the fresh fruit seems to be always, "fresh". Their lunch menu is decent as well, good selection, especially the sandwiches.
