The Original "Breakfast House". "Janes" ( Now James) is one of the oldest, and great Diner's Left In San Diego County. They serve it up right. If you plan on going, get ready to take a trip back in time. It sits in Old Lemon Grove, and the building was a restaurant live in building. They have a limited menu, but everything is worth a shot. I recomend the "Ham & Cheese Omelette". Order the Mini, cause you think you can handle a large? Go ahead try it, let me know how long it took you to finish it.
If it's a Saturday morning, and you want breakfast, and not sure were to go, and don't feel commercial...( IHOP, Denny's, Cocos) head out to Lemon Grove, and try James...then head to the swapmeet or mall to walk it off. You will need it!

Located almost underneath the 94/125 junction you can bet that this one-of-a-kind eatery has been around long before the freeways. Don't be afraid to stroll in, sit at the bar, read the paper and enjoy a cup of coffee with toast. This is the type of place you arrive alone and get into some good conversation with good people.
A friend had brought me to the place and I really enjoyed it, the fact that the "small omelet" was bigger than the plate it was served on brought me back a second time. On my second visit, the food was just as great and the waitress remembered my name and what I had ordered the last time I had visited. That's what keeps me coming back... the good ol' sense of community.
I love every thing about it; from the screen door in the back that slams when people walk in and out, to the old men who seem to know every one... you have to visit this place its one of my favorites.

Formerly Janes Country Kitchen, this is like stepping back to a country diner and, as such, biscuits and gravy are the thing to get.
The machaca is also good but even the small omelettes are huge.
